Our goal then in the

late 60's, early 70's

was to support ourselves

half of the year

with making money

so that we had half

of the year to do art.

So there was an ad

Sawmill: workers wanted.

December, January,

February I worked there.

My accident happened

on Washington's birthday.

I was put on a mill that I had

never been on.

instead of a circular saw.

this sawmill and they would hit

what is called hog back roller.

And it was below this

stainless steel table.

And there was about

3/4's of an inch

on either side of it.

That hog back roller

caught my glove.

And pulled my hand

in the gap

between the stainless table

and the hog back roller.

And there was an eternity

of just chewing.

And then it was revealed.

The hand was dangling.

the first guy they call

over with a car,

I had already

just made an enormous change.
