Oh, my!
What is it?

A bunny, that's lovely. What is your name?
Marietta.
Marietta, did you make this amazing hat by yourself?
- Yes. I wanted to thank you... - Look, guys, look...!
It's wonderful! Wonderful!
All my life, I was really unhappy. I thought it would never change...

Hi, sunshine!

I've got to get back to Jackson... quickly.
Is that for me?
- Yes. - Damn.
Quite a lot of stuff.
It would be great if you could show it today.
No problem.
- What's up? - Good Morning TVN is hesitating.
Hesitating?
- I dunno. - "Dunno" what?
- So, call them. - I did.
And?
They're still planning the content.
Wait, I thought we were booked?

Apparently, the host works out with Patti Wola.
So, they want to invite her instead of me?
I don't know, it's just gossip.
So, now the host gets to choose the guests, I don't get it?
This is not good, it was supposed to be sorted.
- Maybe some sparkling water. - Of course.
Have you read the gossip sites lately?
No.
That video you posted has kind of gone viral, you know?
Really, which one?
The one of you crying.
Are you all right?
Why are you asking?
You looked kind of sad in it.
So what? Are you worried about me?
Should I be?
I don't know, that's up to you.
One of the sponsors complained.
- Oh, yeah? Who? - Olympus Nutrition.
They're worried about their product appearing in that kind of context.
- Sorry, but I post what I want. - That's what I told them, girl.
Don't worry about it.

whether to take the stairs or the lift...

no matter how many bags you're carrying.
I'm nearly there.

There.
My loves...

Boom! Okay...
A bit of milk.
I'm going to use almond milk today.
We add it to the shake...

I'm sorry.
But you can try again, right?

Aren't you supposed to be on TV tomorrow morning?
Shouldn't you rest?
I should.
- Do you want to come home with me? - What?
Do you want to come home with me?
Welcome.
Thanks.
Hi.
Hey, there.
To the right.
Hi, my love.
What have you been up to? Huh?
Come on. I'll give you some food.
Are you hungry?
Do you want a drink?
Sure.
I have some wine. Do you want some?
Water is fine.
As you wish.
Where's the bathroom?
Over there and right. You'll see it.
May I?
Great.
What's up?
Come. I'll show you something.
What?
See that car parked over there?
The white one.
Can you see someone sitting inside it?
I don't know, maybe. Why?
I think that's my stalker.
Yesterday, he was sitting in that same car...
..and when I took Jackson out for a walk...
he kept staring at me
and when I came up to him...
..he started...
Yeah?
He started jerking off.
Do you want me to talk to him?
Could you?
If you want me to.
I do.
- You want it? - I want it.
Yeah... I think I exaggerated a bit.
But he won't bother you any more.
What's up?
I thought that's what you wanted.
Isn't that what you wanted?
Should I go?
Yes, that would be best.
There's just one little problem.
I really want to fuck you right now.
Fuck.
See you.
Could you leave, please? Please.
Can you get up?
I have to go now.
Hello! Hello!
- Do you need help? - No, no. No, no, thank you.
- I have to go now. - Do you want me to call an ambulance?
Thank you. I'll be fine.
- Where are you going? - I have to...
- Wait! - I have to go.
- Get up... - I have to go now! I have to go!
I have to go now!
I have to go!
I have to go now! I have to go!
I have to go! Now! I have to go now!
I have to!
I have to go now! I have to go!
Wait, wait!
- I have to go! - Wait, wait, wait!
- Wait. - I have to go now!
Wait, wait...
I have to go now!
Quiet.
Breathe. Breathe calmly.
Listen to me. Listen to me.
Now... Slowly...
I'm going to lift you up. All right?
Put your hand here.
Stand there.
I'll open the door.
Wait, wait.
Watch out.
Please don't park here.
- I'll move it in a moment. - Please don't park.
I'll move it in a moment.
A bit further.
Where?
- There? - Yes.
- Hello. - Hello, how can I help you?
Good evening.
- They beat him up. - His name and surname, please...
Ideally, his personal number and ID card.
One moment.
Thank you.
Doctor, come here, please.
Doctor!
Please come here.
- Can you call a doctor? - Can't you hear I'm calling?
What's going on here?
Hello, sir? Andrzej!
Can you hear me, sir?
What's your name?
Andrzej, quickly. Bring a chair!
What's your name?
His name is Ryszard.
Mr Ryszard, let's get up so we can get you on the chair.
Sir! Mr Ryszard!
Mr Ryszard, please sit back.
I'll take him.
Can you hear me, sir?
Madam, please move the car.
Madam...
Please move the car. It can't stand there.
What should I do with his wallet?
Don't you know him?
That man?
No.
All right, then, you can leave it with me.
- Please come and move the car. - I'll give it to him later.
- We're nearly ready. - All right.
Ms Sylwia, you'll probably want to warm up, right?
- Yes. - All right, then,
we'll have to go in literally a minute.
Hi, girls, can you leave for a moment...
Ms Sylwia doesn't have anywhere to warm up and...
Thanks.
Eight, seven, six, five...
This is the sound technician...
Do you need some water?
..the girl who took the fitness market by storm.
Good morning.
- Hello, I'm Miłosz. - Sylwia.
Three minutes.
Thanks, we're clean.
Now, let's move to the sofa for the meeting with Sylwia Zając.
- There you go. - Thanks.
- Ready? - Good.
- Two minutes left. - We've got Sylwia.
All right, Ms Sylwia, follow me.
Six...
She is beautiful, young, talented and full of energy.
Ladies and gentlemen, Sylwia Zając.
The latest fitness revelation, we could say.
She is...
She is already recognised for her energetic and effective workout plans...
but also her strong presence in social media.
- Hello, Sylwia. Welcome. - Hello.
I'm very pleased to be here with you.
It's very nice to meet you.
It's great that you brought Jackson with you.
Yes, yes. I think he is in the kitchen. Yes, because he's greedy.
Let's explain. Jackson is a little dog.
Does Jackson have a profile too?
He doesn't have a profile, but he has a hashtag.
So, Hashtag Jackson...
- Yes. - It sounds grandiose.
Sylwia, please tell us how many followers you have now?
Around 600,000.
600,000. Followers, that's people who watch you all the time.
- Every post, right? - Yes.
That's an impressive number indeed.
So, you're very popular. It's interesting to see how you use this,
so let's watch one of your last posts.
This is a part of the video where you... express a lot of emotion.
We're watching the viral video right now.
This is the moment when you share with your fans
that you feel very lonely,
that you would like to have a boyfriend.
I want to ask, do you really need to take this so far?
Do you have to expose yourself like this?
Do you think...
That we can show everything off, these days? That it's all for sale?
Isn't this too much?
I don't know, it comes with the job.
What do you mean by "the job"?
"It comes with the job." What does that mean?
If I want to inspire people...
..I have to show them
that I have my good days and my bad days.
Yes, but isn't it a little too much?
Maybe you should focus on your domain,
your specialisation, that is, fitness?
Why share the drama in your life?
Let's be honest, the post was very moving.
But I have another question. You deal with motivating people
all over Poland, but... What motivates you?
Sylwia?
What's wrong with the fact that I admitted...
that right now there's no-one in my life who loves me?
Does that mean...
that...
that I'm weak?
Or... I don't know, pathetic?
In that case I want to be weak and pathetic,
because that's when I'm myself.
When I'm the awesome Sylwia from the posters...
I feel very lonely...
and I'm just tired of pretending
that I'm better than I really am.
I'm tired...
of worrying that I'm not good enough.
I'm tired of it.
I want to be that weak, pathetic Sylwia...
because weak, pathetic people are the most beautiful people.
Thousands of people watched my video.
Those thousands of people accept me just the way I am.
And they don't even know
that they mean more to me than I do to them.
I love them.
I love them with all my heart.
Sylwia, is everything all right?
Yes.
It's true that I've had a few intense, rough days...
But I'm doing well.
What happened, if you can tell us?
I might tell you, if you follow me on social media.
Well...
The ball is in your court now, Andrzej. You have to create an account.
I think I will.
Sylwia, this is when you were supposed to show us your workout.
But I don't know if you're ready for it after all those emotions.
You've really shaken us here, so maybe we should just skip it?
No. Right now...
- I really feel like working out. - Okay.
All right, in that case, the stage is yours.
Music, please.
My loves.
I'm sure you know that moment when you wake up...
and your body's still asleep and your mind is dreaming?
I'm about to show you the best morning workout routine.
Arms forward.
Big circles. Let your body stretch.
Let your arms work, your chest open.
And up! To the sides!
One, two, three, four.
Up.
My loves, you can repeat this on the other side.
Thank you so much.
Have a good day.
Well, hi and welcome and thank you for joining us for a virtual Q&A
We are very lucky to be joined by the film's director, Magnus von Horn,
and its star, Magdalena Koleśnik.
- Thank you both for joining us so much. - Thanks.
- Thanks. - Thanks a lot.
I want to start by asking a question to both of you.
What is your relationship to social media, personally?
I'm, how do you say, active in a passive way, on social media.
I have quite high screen time,
but it doesn't mean I post a lot.
I watch a lot and that's kind of what,
in the beginning of this process of Sweat, almost five years ago,
started or kind of got the idea for the script rolling,
or the kind of the emotional inspiration,
which was when I started watching a fitness influencer on Snapchat.
And it set my... It set my imagination working a lot
and I started to kind of fantasize what she was doing in between her posts
and building a character that way, or continuing her character.
And...
also, I was studying, kind of, my own reaction
to her intense posting a lot, the prejudice I had
and the way I was quite sceptical to her lifestyle,
the way I thought it was shallow, or felt it was shallow
and had problems accepting her kind of happiness
or happy-go-lucky attitude.
And I was also wondering why I have these problems
and why I'm reacting like this a lot.
And, Magdalena, were you on Instagram before the film?
No, I didn't have an Instagram.
It was my task to prepare for this role,
I'm not so active,
because it's not my favourite channel to connect with people,
but I appreciate this tool helps, for example, with activism,
and when we had lots of protests in Poland,
we could share very important information immediately,
that somebody was put into the jail, and we could go there.
So, I appreciate it as a tool.
Magnus, I mean, you said you found this fitness influencer on Instagram,
who you became kind of fascinated with.
When did you realise that there was a film in there
and how was the kind of creative genesis of that?
Well, I think it was a lot about... back to what I was saying before, like,
looking at my own reaction,
and also realising or not being aware of how much, like,
I don't know, internet hate or anonymous kind of behaviour on the internet
and what it allows for, and I think...
kind of my own emotions or reactions towards the influencer I was observing
made me think about what my... Like, it was kind of a starting point,
that would be where you would set out
your relationship with a character for a film.
And I was interested to think, like, where would I want to end with it,
how would my relationship to this character
change over the course of a film?
And I found that interesting, because it was... it's a kind of,
it's a process of looking for that connection.
What is it? Where do I connect with someone
who is so radically different from me?
I want to say that it's also about vulnerability.
And it's so easy to judge those people, that they are doing silly things,
and we, as viewers, like to be an expert
and it's so easy and so pleasant to judge somebody
that it's, yeah, it's silly.
So, it was also about looking on that vulnerability,
and also about the responsibility of us as viewers,
what we want to do with this... fragile content.
Yeah. And it feels like the film maintains
quite an objective point of view throughout, I think.
You know, it's never telling us what we should feel about Sylwia,
or whether, you know, whether what she's doing
is good or bad or right or wrong.
Was that your intention?
Yes, absolutely.
But that's through a long process of being...
as close as possible to the main... to Sylwia,
and, like, really, on a script level,
and then on working together with Magda and discovering the film.
Because it was quite a long preparation,
it was how to stay as close to Sylwia as possible
to see her as much as a human being as well
and not as a kind of a vessel for our intentions.
Because then we can afford...
And I'm never scared that staying close to her in a,
what you call an objective way, it's never gonna...
I mean, in the end, she will...
kind of be able to defend herself,
because she's a human.
But that takes... It's a long preparation, I think, to end up,
but that's definitely the point...
I wanted to get to when I don't have to, like,
I don't have to tell you, "Look, she's great, she's good."
You will see that yourself, I don't need to tell you that.
Are you a fitness person yourself, Magdalena?
Did you relate to her on that level?
And now I do pole dance.
- Oh, wow. - So, I am quite active,
but this kind of fitness thing and work with weights,
it was a completely new thing for me.
And I found it very interesting,
'cause, at the beginning, I thought that it's so boring, you know,
It was my experience, maybe, I don't know.
Yeah, but it was interesting, like, because I remember,
And I thought it was great, because it didn't mean,
"Now we're going to cry for five minutes," it was very short,
and then it's just, snap out of it.
That's what I also like about, going back to what you said
about what's true and what isn't,
because I know that, okay, we can take Magda pushing weights and crying
and then we cut to something different,
but, depending on where we put it in the film,
it will... the audience will create some kind of meaning of it.
I'd be interested to hear from both of you what you thought was...
if you think there's something particularly Polish
about the kind of world it presents.
There is something in that world that I connect a lot to Poland
and it's kind of like a lot to do with the generational gap
where everything is just for sale and everything is fast and loud.
And it was kind of like how to just embrace this...
as much as possible
and I think, like, within the influencer culture,
there's so much of that kind of duality, at least in the fitness culture, yeah?
It's all this kind of, of women empowering women, but at the same time,
Magdalena, does that, does what,
you know, Magnus is saying ring true to you, as well?
Yeah, for me also, this relationship between Sylwia and her mother
is a very Polish, let's say, relationship.
And this, this gap between it,
that, my generation, we have an access to, to therapy,
we know how to talk about emotions, we are privileged because of it.
And the generation of our parents...
didn't have this access and privilege, you know,
and it's, it's so hard to communicate, because this distance...
..is so big because of it. Like, it's a huge gap.
And we are really different.
Like, you know, like, between, I can feel that it's ten generations, sometimes.
And how to build this bridge when you have...
a completely different way of thinking,
a completely different dictionary.
I'd love to hear about the casting, because, Magdalena,
this is your first kind of major film role, isn't it?
Yeah.
And, Magnus, how did you find Magdalena,
and had you seen her in anything before?
It was an actor friend recommended
that I should look at Magdalena for this role,
so I went to the theatre and first saw her in a play,
where she's actually playing a kind of a fitness motivator,
- in a very kind of exaggerated way. - Oh, wow.
So, then, I invited Magda for a casting
and she was the first one who came to the casting,
the first person who came for casting for Sylwia.
And I think, like, in my stomach,
I felt it was good already.
But, you know, you can't say,
"Okay, let's stop casting. We have her after one person."
I think it took maybe five months and four more meetings
and one very good video SMS from Magda to get the role.
Yeah.
It was funny 'cause you thought that, after the first casting,
that I am real Instagrammer, isn't it?
- Yes. Yes. - Yeah, and you checked
that there is no-one as Magdalena Koleśnik on Instagram.
We were speaking about Sylwia
also in the way of a stereotype of a blonde woman
in this kind of world of fitness, and Instagram and pink and all this.
And Magda said that she is sometimes treated like a, you say, stupid blonde.
And when people treat you like a stupid blonde,
you give them "Stupid Blonde x2"?
- Yeah. - And I thought that was great.
And I thought, "I like that."
I think we played with that a bit in the film.
Yeah, I love to play with it. Yeah.
I love to play this game.
If somebody is so prejudiced toward me.
Yeah.
Magda, was the script kind of complete when you started, or...
or did you kind of develop and work on the character together?
It was a long work, together.
I mean, I don't think the script was ever finished.
You know, it was a process all the time and it was changing all the time
and changing a lot, because, like Magda said,
the preparations, when she was preparing for the role,
it was over a year, maybe even a year and a half.
And during all that time, we were always in touch,
always kind of working on... I mean, working on Sylwia,
but also on the script very much
and what was coming out of, you know, rehearsals and Magda was...
and all the other castings to cast the other actors.
And that constantly changes the story, so, it was always, I think...
..kind of moving and shifting.
And, like, the last scene of the film
was written the day before the shooting of that scene.
So, the last... Which was shot on the last day.
And it was very much... It was...
It kind of became very personal at that moment,
because, I mean, we weren't, we shot the last scene for two days.
And, after the first day, it felt really... It was not good.
So, we spoke a lot and then we went home and we kind of wrote two versions.
Magda wrote one and I wrote one
and then we met and they were kind of very similar.
And it was also very personal in that way,
so, I think, in the end, like, the last scene articulates the process
and also what's important to us, personally, and Sylwia, and...
Yeah, it was great that we let ourselves to not close anything.
It's a good situation, when you know how to do something,
you are an expert, but it's a real journey when everything is open.
And when, you know, when you learn what character Sylwia is,
that you learn all the time, also during shooting,
and things could change, because Sylwia could change,
because we know her better.
And to...
to keep things open, it's a really great thing.
I love the last scene of the film, because it's sort of, you know,
the whole thing works up to this, this performance on TV
that has been kind of consuming her for so long
and she obviously aces the performance
and it kind of ends on this note of triumph
and almost feels like the last number of a musical, in a funny way.
And yet, because it's, you know, again, she's in performance mode,
we don't exactly know what she's feeling inside,
if it's kind of all better now or if she's still kind of emotionally in limbo.
I'm curious to know from both of you, where you see...
where you think kind of Sylwia is at the end of the film
and what you want the audience to, to take away from that.
Now, the way I thought about it was always that,
okay, that, on one hand, it was kind of, I don't know,
in my head, a flirt with romantic comedy ending,
So, it was never about a big change
that is gonna, you know, change everything.
It was about catching a moment
when she's able to be the best motivator in the world,
because she's just in sync with her emotions,
but that's not going to last forever.
Did you rehearse with the camera around?
Because I'm thinking about Sylwia,
she lives her life kind of constantly on camera
or kind of relating to the lens in some way
and, Magda, as a, you know, as an actor who does a lot of theatre,
that's not necessarily something you always think about in a performance,
whereas, you know, Sylwia, the way you play her,
even when she, even when there doesn't seem to be a camera on her,
she seems to be kind of reacting or posing to some kind of viewer.
Only on Instagram.
I learned how to... Yeah, as I said, how to be natural,
how to, you know, have this tool here
and feel it like my hand or like my mirror or like my friend.
So, it was my rehearsals with camera,
and to feel totally free when I see myself
and not see myself, you know, on this camera
because it's more my hand.
I wanted to ask you again about the kind of camera
and about the aesthetic you chose for the film,
because, compared to your first film, which was, you know,
very cool colours, lots of greys and blues,
here, you're kind of assaulting us with these bright kind of...
the neon pinks and hot colours of Sylwia's world,
and yet the, you know, the framing and the compositions
are often very kind of distant and remote and feel quite kind of cool as well.
What was your kind of visual inspiration for the film?
There are many different but one of them that I always liked a lot
was, on my first film, I always thought of the camera as a cat.
It would be a cat, sitting in a window, watching a family fight
and, you know, having distance, not getting involved.
And be very kind of engaged.
So, that was the kind of the camera we were going for
and then, as for colours and things,
it was a lot about...
loving what is not maybe my aesthetical preferences,
but opening up to that,
Well, Magnus and Magdalena, thank you both so much for joining us
and thank you for your extraordinary film.
Thank you.
And you, my loves!
If you want to be part of this wonderful energy?
If you want to receive as much love as I did today,
then come to Kraków for my next workout! I'll be there after the weekend!
