THE TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE
Apologies for this brief interruption...
Is the movie over?
Don't you want to tell Grandma?
Is the movie over?
We will now continue with a musical interlude.
Taking place in France this summer
will be an event of huge importance.
Every French citizen can do their part,
if, as I am asking them to do,
they go and shout, "Go on, Poupou!"
Along the route of the Tour de France.
These encouraging cheers
will resound throughout this eternal nation.
Long live the Republic! Long live France!
I am reporting live from this 17th stage of the Tour de France.
The peloton, that huge machine of muscles and steel,
has just set off.
But before their tyres hit the baking-hot streets of Marseille
these young lads still have many obstacles to face.
An extraordinary breakaway by the yellow jersey
who has shaken off Klaut and Glutman of Frankfurt canning-factory fame.
They'll have a hard time catching up
on this same spot as their bitter defeat last year
where they were a total write-off, to put it bluntly.
How admirable this fierce endurance is
on the face of this great eagle.
The summit lies at an altitude of 1,912 metres,
the terrible Ventoux, an impressive landscape
of white desert under a burning sun.
They climb standing up on their pedals, checking their gears.
It is hell for these young men.
Before reaching the finish
they work themselves into a sweat,
leaving a musky smell in their wake
that supporters lining the route know so well.
The peloton is now a distant memory.
For some the bell already tolls and they give up.
Those who cannot pound the pedals hard enough
lose pace, fall behind,
and vanish...
Now comes the liberating descent into Marseille at breakneck speed.
Keep going, my boy!
The Pigeon insurance company is offering the best sprinter
a whole week's free insurance.
Yes, that's right, free insurance for your bicycle.
My box! That's my box!
Give me back my box!
Is that your dog?
I don't believe it! What a nerve!
She now has my box and the dog!
Here! Stuff this!
DRIED TADPOLES
Dessert.
Excuse me.
Shoo!
Get out.
And now for the Triplets of Belleville.
