One of the evils uncovered by
the McClellan Committee was

the evil which results when
a crooked union conspires

with crooked management to
keep down the wages of honest

American workers by means
of sweetheart contracts.

The hearings were in their fourth week,

and the reason for my being
in Washington was to cover

the proceedings in my
column entitled The Corruptors.

One of the star witnesses
called on by the committee

to testify on his behalf was Chuck King,

who advocated a new union for his company
despite repeated threats against his life.

Just outside of Chuck King's
apartment, another show was going on.

This one without any
seeming political overtones.
