A... Asada-san...
Asada-san.
Asada-san.
Asada-san!
Asada-san!
Asada-san!
Asada-san!
Asada-san!
Run, Sinon!
Kirito...
What the hell are you doing?!
It's...
It's you!
Stay...
Stay away from my Asada-san!
Kirito!
Kirito!
He got me.
I had no idea that was a syringe.
Where...
Where'd he inject you?
Don't die on me.
You can't die like this!
Hey, um...
What's this thing that's stuck to you?
Is this where he tried to inject me?
That's how it looks to me.
What's it supposed to be?
Well...
I think it's an electrode for a heart monitor.
C-Come again?
Jeez, that scared the life out of me.
That's my line!
I-I thought you were going to die, you know?
Y-You're killing me.
Is he... okay?
Seems like it.
At any rate, thanks for coming.
Well, I didn't really end up doing anything.
And sorry for taking so long.
Are you hurt?

Seriously?
No way!
Hey, don't call me out here and keep me waiting.
Say, Asada, haven't you been pretty full of yourself lately?
Seriously, ever learn to play nice?
Not like it matters, though.
We're friends, after all.
So if we ever need a little help, you'll lend us a hand, right?
For now, twenty thousand yen will do.
Pay up.
Like I've said before,
I've no intention to lend you money.
Just saying, I really did borrow it from my brother today.
Do your worst.
Thing is, he told me to never point it at anyone, but...
you don't mind, right?
You're used to it, after all.
Come on and cry, Asada.
Start groveling and apologize!
What's with this thing?
Ow!
A Government 1911, huh?
Your brother has good taste.
It's not to my liking, though.
Most guns can't be fired without first removing the safety.
S-Stop...
Yeah, you really shouldn't be pointing this at people.
Here.
Hey, you okay?
Endou...
Goodbye.
This is the first step...
Asada-san!
How do you know him?
Is he your boyfriend?

Hey!
I know we talked about meeting up,
but why pick such a conspicuous spot?
Hey.
Good to see you, Sinon.
Soon after the incident,
Shinkawa Kyouji and his brother, Shouichi, were arrested,
and the existence of a third conspirator became evident from Shouichi's testimony.
The third Death Gun, Kanamoto Atsushi, remains on the run,
but Kikuoka says it's only a matter of time before he's caught.
"Death Gun" came to be when Shouichi purchased a mantle
that could turn him invisible in-game, via a real-money transaction.
Using that mantle and binoculars,
Shouichi became obsessed with stealing other players' personal info.
Meanwhile,
his younger brother, Kyouji, had trouble developing his character's build.
People seem to have the misconception that agility is the ultimate stat.
As an agility type, Spiegel held a deep-rooted hatred for XeXeeD, who promoted the idea
that agility types were the strongest despite having switched to a strength-and-vitality build himself.
Upon hearing this, Shouichi gave XeXeeD's real name and address to Kyouji,
and they discussed the best way to make him pay.
Even so, they claim they weren't serious about it at first.
But over days of deliberation, the plan grew increasingly plausible,

They meticulously researched targets
and narrowed the list down to people who lived alone in places with weak security.
Shouichi broke into the home
of the first victim, XeXeeDโwhose real name was Shigemuraโusing the master keycard.
He murdered Shigemura at the prearranged time,
waiting for Kyouji to log into his "Sterben" character,
proclaim himself to be "Death Gun", and shoot XeXeeD.
The second victim,
Lightly Salted Roe, was murdered similarly.
But far from fearing Death Gun, GGO players laughed the concept off as mere rumor.
Frustrated with the reaction,
Shouichi and Kyouji plotted a scheme to murder three people during BoB.
Their targets, who all fit the same criteria XeXeeD and Roe did, were Pale Rider, Garrett, and Sinon.
But they weren't set up to kill multiple people at the same time.
Indeed.
An accomplice had to infiltrate each target's home and match Death Gun's timing.
That's where Kanamoto came in and became the third "Death Gun", I suppose.
You could say Kanamoto was an old friend of Shouichi's.
Actually, they were members of the same guild in SAO.
His character name was Johnny Black.
Ring any bells?
He was a poison knife wielder who paired up with XaXa in Laughing Coffin.
Kanamoto was responsible for offing Pale Rider and Garrett, who happened to live nearby,
while Kyouji took Sinon.
Until then, Shouichi had been the man working this side,
but this time, Kyouji insisted they switch.
Um...
Did you hear that from Shinkawa-kun...
I mean, Kyouji-kun?
No, this is all from his brother's testimony.
Kyouji has kept silent about all this.
I see.
By the way, regarding Shinkawa Shouichi...
Written Record of Oral Testimony

3-45 Hongou, Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo Lima Heights, 3-40-403 Koishikawa, Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo Unemployed Shinkawa Shouichi 11/13/2006 (19 years old)
In regards to the alleged homicide pertaining to the person stated above, on December 15, 2025, at the Metropolitan Police Department's Motofuji Police Station, after I informed the suspect in advance of his right to remain silent, he willingly offered the following testimony.
1
I live alone at the address that I provided to you earlier. I'm unemployed and primarily make do off of the allowance given to me by my father. He provides me with 500,000 yen per month for living expenses. I also have income from Gun Gale Online's game coin conversion system.
2
I was born the oldest son of the owner and director of a general hospital, and because of my chronic poor health, I was repeatedly in and out of the hospital up until I graduated middle school. As a result, I fell behind in my studies, failed my entrance exams, and was to enter high school a year late. Though it seemed my father had intended for me to succeed him, it became apparent he had given up on me...
He's had a weak constitution since he was young.
His father abandoned hope in him early on
and decided the younger brother, Kyouji, should inherit the hospital.
No problems here, Ms. Instructor.
Despite that, it seems the two of them got along quite well.
and so he pinned his hopes in my brother, Kyouji, who was three years younger. My father arranged for Kyouji to have a personal tutor since elementary school, and there were times my father taught Kyouji himself.
3
I dropped out of high school, and that was when I got obsessed with MMORPGs. Around then, or three years ago to be exact, I was playing Sword Art Online, which had become a social phenomenon. In the game, I was in a guild of murderers known as "Laughing Coffin". The guild was formed on New Year's Day in 2024, and we referred to ourselves as a "red guild"โa reference to the orange cursors that marked criminals in the gameโas we went around PKing on a daily basis, fully aware of the fact that a "game over", or death in-game would be the end of that person in the real world. Around summertime that year, Laughing Coffin was pushed to the brink of annihilation by a punitive force composed of players of the "clearing group", who were known for fighting on the game's front lines. In the end, I was captured and ended up jailed within a prison in the game world. The humiliation I suffered then motivated me to spend day after day practicing techniques called "Sword Skills". Some time later, Sword Art Online was cleared and I returned to the real world as one of the so-called "SAO survivors". After returning to the real world, I tried to leave my time in Sword Art Online behind me, but during rehab at the hospital... I told only Kyouji about what I experienced... blood on my hands...
But then, Shouichi got addicted to MMORPGs,
and in 2022, he became a prisoner of Sword Art Online.
Upon his return, Kyouji was the one person Shouichi told
about how he'd been feared as an actual murderer in that world.
It seems that, to Kyouji, his brother appeared to be a hero.
And according to Shouichi,
the "Death Gun" plan, including the murders, was nothing more than a game.
He claims it was no different from SAOโ
how they investigated targets, gathered equipment, and killed people.
That'd be the "dark side" of VRMMOs, I suppose.
Reality starts to become blurred.
As for you...
What's reality to you now?
I'm certain there are things I've left behind in that world.
So I feel like I'm lacking something as I am now.
Have you ever wished to go back?
Don't ask. That's in bad taste.
Um, Kirito...
That's different from what you said before.
You said there's no such thing as a virtual world.
That wherever you are is your reality.
Where I am now...
This world is my only reality.
Even if this were a virtual world,
I believe it'd still be reality to me.
I see.
You're right.
What Sinon said just now might be the only good takeaway from this whole incident.
Don't tease me!
Yes, it's just as you said.
That's everything I know currently.
Have any questions?
Well...
What's going to happen to Kyouji-kun now?
Given their conduct,
I think it's likely the two of them will be sent to a medical reformatory.
They're lacking that sense of reality, after all.
No, that might not be the case.
I can't speak for his brother,
but I believe Kyouji-kun's reality was in Gun Gale Online.
He abandoned everything in this world
and decided that GGO would be his one and only reality.
He aspired to be the strongest and patiently grinded every day for hours on end.
I'm sure it put him under a lot of stress.
He was stressed out by a game?
Isn't that contrary to what a game should do?
Yes.
Just as you said, I think Kyouji-kun got things backwards.
He mixed up this world... and that world.
But why?
That's something I'd also like to know.
Kirito, do you know why?
He wanted to get stronger.
True. It was the same with me.
That might be a common trait among VRMMO players.
We just want to become stronger.
Kikuoka-san, I'm going to go visit him.
I want to meet him and tell him what I've been thinking and what's on my mind now.
You're a strong young lady.
Very well. Please do so.
As soon as visitation opens up, I'll send you an email.
Oh, I apologize, but I'll have to excuse myself.
Okay, sorry for taking up your time.
Also, thank you very much.
Don't mention it.
I'm to blame for putting you two in danger in the first place.
This is the least I could do.
Oh, right, Kirito-kun...
Death Gun...
No, Red-Eyed XaXaโ
Shinkawa Shouichi, that isโ asked me to pass along a message.
Of course, you have every right to refuse it.
What'll it be?
I'll hear it.
Well then...
"This isn't the end.
You don't possess the power to end it.
You'll be made to realize that soon enough.
It's showtime."
That's all.
Um, Sinon?
Yes?
Are you free after this?
I don't really have any plans.
This is where you wanted to take me?
Yeah.
There's someone I want to introduce you to.
You're late!
I ate two slices of apple pie while waiting for you!
It's your fault if I gain weight, okay?
Where's the logic in that?
Hurry up and introduce her, Kirito-kun.
O-Oh, right.
This is the third champion of Gun Gale Online, Sinon, or Asada Shino-san.
S-Stop that.
And these are my friends from SAO.
The rip-off blacksmith, Lisbeth, or Shinozaki Rika.
What was that?!
And she's the berserker healer, Asuna, or Yuuki Asuna.
Th-That's uncalled for.
Ow...
Well, go ahead and take a seat.
Sterben...
So it wasn't "Steven", huh?
Medical jargon for "death"...
I wonder what he was thinking, picking that...
It's better not to look for deep meanings in character names.
There's definitely more you'll overlook than realize, after all.
Whoa, that's pretty convincing,
coming from someone who uses her real name for her character.
Hey, now!
We could've done without the comment!
Sorry, sorry!
Jeez!
Anyway, I'm glad I got to meet another female VRMMO player in real life.
Yep!
I hope we can be friends, Asada-san.
Listen, Asada-san...
Shino-san.
There's another reason we asked you to come here today.
Another reason?
Sinon, let me apologize to you first.
I told Asuna and Liz about what happened to you in the past.
It was because I had to get their help.
Shino-san, we actually went to the town where you used to live.
Why did you...
That's because I felt you hadn't met someone you need to meet
or heard the words that you need to hear.
It might be painful,
but I couldn't just leave you as you are now.
Someone I need to meet?
Words I need to hear?
Um, who are you?
Nice to meet you.
You're Asada Shino-san, correct?
My name is Oosawa Sachie.
This is Mizue. She's four.
Before she was born, I was working at a post office.
I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry... Shino-san.
I should have come to see you sooner...
Yet I never apologized or even thanked you.
At the time of that incident,
I was pregnant with her.
So, Shino-san,
you saved not only my life, but hers as well.
Thank you...
Thank you so very much.
Thank you.
I saved your lives?
Sinon.
You've always been blaming yourself.
You've lived trying to punish yourself.
I'm not going to say that's wrong.
But at the same time,
you have the right to think about the lives you've saved.
You have the right to reflect on that and forgive yourself.
I... wanted to...
wanted to...

If it will vanish one day
Hitotsu mo iranai yo
I wished so hard to become stronger than ever
Motto tsuyoku sou tsuyoku naritai to negatta
Like a lonely star racing across the darkness
Kurayami wo kakeru kodoku na hoshi no you ni
Sunk so deep inside my heart, I'm so weak and fragile
Kokoro fukaku shizumeta yowakute moroi jibun
I can't put it into words, or even speak out
Kotoba ni dekinakute koe ni mo naranakute
I'm just waiting for the light
Kitto dare ni mo mitsukara nai you ni
Trying not to be found by anyone
Tada hikari wo matteru
