we're back now with a look at a a

dramatic series that is getting a lot of

buzz it stars two award-winning actors

Matt buer and Jonathan Bailey for six

seasons Matt Charmed audiences as a con

artist in the series white collar and

Jonathan is known for Romancing dear

gentle leaders is Bron you said that so

well and now they both earned Emy

nominations for their performances in

showtimes fellow Travelers they play

government staffers who began a decades

long secret affair during the height of

kism back in the 1950s are we going

now yeah I have to get

back back to leaving in the middle of

the

night sneaking down the stairs

lying Skippy everybody lies about

something you and me we lie about who we

sleep

with I know it hurts

you cuz you're good

sweet but the

line gets

easier wow Matt Jonathan good morning

thanks for being here what I mean an

incredible time in our country at that

point during McCarthyism in the 50s to

to explore this and and obviously being

rewarded for it with these nominations

what how did you both find out about

your

nominations J well I was I was uh I had

a day off I was filming in Malta and I

was with my best friend and they you

know obviously they announced it live we

sort of missed the time zone um so my

phone came through but I realized we I

had a zoom with um various people who

were celebrating and I realized that I

was sat under a pride flag and I got the

new that's with my friend so we had a

drink to celebrate but yeah it was

amazing and you were making coffee yeah

everyone in my life knows not to mention

specific dates to me so I I was just

making coffee completely unaware in my

kitchen and my husband came in and told

me we had a hug and it was a beautiful

moment nice surprise so this show it's

set to the backdrop of the lavender

scare which is a part of History I think

not many people are familiar with I

didn't know anything about it why did

how why did you want to make sure that

this is a part of history that people

are aware of well I think it's important

to look back at moments of our history

where we made maybe questionable

decisions in term and so we can learn

from those and go forward in the

Progressive way and you know it's

estimated 10,000 people in our

government lost their jobs because of

the lavender scare and so it was

something I didn't know I only had a

tangential understanding of so it was

important for me to explore a lived

experience and I Johnny too and to to

try to bring the story to light and

we're just grateful that we live in a

time where we had the opportunity to

tell the story you guess I mean you

clearly have such a connection and

chemistry on camera and just in these

few minutes that we've been chatting off

camera as well you guys seem to have

quite quite the connection that that

respect and that admiration was that

like that initially or is this something

that developed over years or over the

course of this project well I've

obviously been a massive Matt bomma fan

for years as we all have who didn't love

white car who didn't tell me about it

when's it coming

back and uh yeah and Matt was a part of

getting this series made he EXA produced

it and uh with Ron who wrote it who

wrote Philadelphia back in the day so it

was an undal dive in but we met um at

Gold struck coffee on Cumberland it all

comes back to coffee with you know you

need your own coffee brand coming out

but yeah it was we hit it off straight

away and we just sort of discovered the

whole sort of story together um in the

playing of the characters we were just

talking off camera you guys are both so

busy Jonathan so you have fellow

Travelers Bridgerton Wicked I mean were

you manage or managing were you

memorizing lines of all of them at the

same time I mean how do you even hold

space for those you know what I mean I

don't know it's the answer but there was

one afternoon where we had a two-way

trailer where had our own separate and

the trailer was sort of rocking in the

middle I was like what's going on in

Johnny's trailer and I came out really

sweaty what are you doing my my Tim

glasses were on and I had sort of Adidas

from the waist down and I've been

practicing my Wicked choreography oh my

God it's really a testament to his

talent though I think you can count on

one hand the number of people who could

actually do all the things he was

balancing at the same time I mean but is

there's one person I've ever work with

you can do the alpha

barff I mean I wore my shirt to support

his

can't wait for Wick that's right and and

and Matt you've got besides all the

other projects the one that really kind

of put USA Network on the map White

Collar there's a reboot happening with

that it's in the works we'll see there's

a great script I I feel like it picks up

really organically where the show left

off and it it pays tribute to some of

the folks we lost since then in a

beautiful way which is really important

to me and so yeah hopefully fingers

crossed we'll get a chance to dip back

into that world and in real life your

oldest is going off to college he sure

is how you feeling dropping him off in a

few days oh man wow you know it's so

many feelings but I'm I'm excited for

him I'm really excited for this next

chapter of his life and how I can

support him in it and just you know for

him to be out in the world and Learn and

Grow I'm excited for him well we hope

you just saw our segment on back to

school
