So, where to next?

I don't know.

Anywhere you want. I mean the world is ours.

You don't have anything else planned?

No. Why?

Um, nothing.

I, I just thought maybe you'd have something more

than dinner planned out.

Well, you know, I don't want to over plan, you know.

You're not like the biggest fan

of some of my good ideas. So,

I'm sorry that I don't want go see the latest action movie

with you that you've already watched with your buddies.

But what do you want to do?

I don't, I don't know. I really didn't think

about it until now.

Maybe just call it a night early,

so we can be ready for work tomorrow?

Yeah. I mean, well, I mean, the night's still young, so,

No, that margarita really made me sleepy.

Oh, really? Alright,

well, maybe I lied.

Maybe I did have something else planned for us tonight.

- Oh? - Well,

I was hoping we'd stumble across like some really cool

lookout or a lake or something.

But I mean, this will do.

What are you doing? What are you doing?

Jodie Eliana Grant,

you are the love of my life,

I just know it.

The time that we've spent together has been like,

the greatest time. Ever.

I mean, you've helped me grow so much.

I mean, I've become such a better person because of you.

So, Jodie Eliana Grant,

will you marry me?

- I don't know - What?

I, I don't, I don't know if we're ready for this yet.

Not ready. Oh, okay.

I, I know that we've had our ups and downs.

I mean, you bring the ups

and I, well, I mean, I bring the downs,

but I mean, you've made me a better person.

I'm like a way better man than I was like earlier. Right?

So will you marry me?

I mean, like, Christmas is like right around the corner

and it is the time of love.

- It's not Christmas yet, and - I'll love you all the same.

Okay. Maybe.

Really?

Probably.

Oh my gosh.

You said yes.

Whoa, put me down.

I, I did not say yes. I said probably

No, no, no, no.

You said okay. And then you backpedaled a little bit.

But there's no take backs on proposals, so

No.

We need more time. I still don't think we're ready.

No, it's almost Christmas so

we could have like a holiday wedding

and we can have sleighs and bells and sleigh bells.

Absolutely not.

Okay. I mean, we can talk about that later. Oh,

and Jace could be my best man.

Oh my God. Please. Someone else.

We'll talk about that later.

Did you even buy a ring.

I thought you wanted to do that.

Merry Christmas.

Have a good day William.

William dear. Oh, I'm so glad you're here.

The doctors this week have been especially nosy.

- Is that so? - Yes.

They've been constantly popping their heads in

asking me questions.

Very personal things.

I don't think they allow any privacy in this place.

I'm sure they're just trying to look out for your health.

Please. There are a million sick people in this building

that they can coddle.

I feel fine.

Are you sure about that? Mom?

They tell me you have barely been eating

Again with the privacy,

that's nobody's business but mine.

They're just trying to make sure that you're okay, Mom.

I'm better than Okay. I'm great.

It's just that I'm not hungry.

That, and the food here is terrible.

Well, maybe you'll find something

better to eat in here.

Oh, you didn't have to do this.

I wasn't gonna say anything,

but I was secretly hoping that this was for a girlfriend.

You know, better than hope for that.

I guess by now I should. This is really nice though.

Did you arrange this by yourself?

Some of it.

The guy, the at the store tried

to sell it to me in a bucket

but I was afraid you'd kick it when I got here.

You, you, okay?

Mm. Afraid I kick it. That's funny.

But I hope you know

that I'm not gonna let this cancer beat me

until I hold some grandchildren.

Well, I hope you know it's not gonna happen, till I meet

someone that's really special, Mom.

You're just impossible to please.

Have you been on the internet yet?

There's lots of ladies on the internet.

You should try and ask one of them out. Give her this.

No, no way. That's your early Christmas present.

Besides online dating is not really my thing.

Well, if you are not sick of waiting around, I am.

You're getting too old to be a bachelor.

I'm in no rush, Mom. Just be patient.

Besides, I'm a little busy with one lady right now.

Oh, don't gimme that. You wanna do me some good?

You'll give me some little adorable grandbabies.

It's just a matter of time, Mom.

My soulmate's out there somewhere. I'm sure of it.

Me too.

How am I supposed to make LA weather exciting?

It's always sunny,

Jodie. Right on time.

Thanks Robby

I hear a congratulations is in order.

Oh.

I saw your segment yesterday. It was so good

oh, you shouldn't say that

...and I wasn't here yesterday,

but I heard your broadcast was fantastic.

Thank You.

I mean, I think you're, I mean, listen, you're pretty

and you're, oh, people will gravitate towards you.

Well,

Oh, thank you.

Good luck today.

Thank you.

How about I'll talk to you soon, I'll see you over

at the coffee station.

- Sure. - Bye.

Hey.

- Hi! How are you doing today? - Good. Feeling good?

Great. Did you read the notes on the first story?

- Yeah, sure have. - Cool.

When we get to Frankie's comment,

Could you be the one to quote him?

Why? It'd be so much funnier if you read it.

It's not about being funny.

It's embarrassing, and I feel like I always get

stuck reading that stuff.

Because you look so cute when you do it.

Jason, please.

I really, really don't wanna do this today.

Fine. I'll quote Frankie, you happy?

Yes. Thank you.

And the next story is mine,

so I'm gonna be the one to take the reins on it.

All right?

- The one about the shelter. - That's the one.

Okay. Sounds good.

You two ready to go? All right. Quiet down everybody.

Jodie and Jason are going

live.

Remember what we talked about?

Yep.

- Alright. - Alright. In three, two.

Good morning and welcome back to Channel Five News.

I'm Jodie Grant.

And I'm Jason Moore.

Coming to you live with our first story.

Mall Santas are going on strike.

That's right, Jason, in an official strike supported

by the Santa's Guild of America,

it seems that mall Santas,

all across the state are unhappy with the low pay

and long hours of brutal inactivity

associated with the job.

Mm. The apparent instigator, Frankie Hester, had this

to say, which, Jodie, would you mind reading that for us?

Oh, of course.

Frankie Hester had this to say,

this strike has been a long time coming for mall.

Santas everywhere.

We don't get paid nearly enough to sit there

for hours on end.

Talking to delusional children,

people try to convince us

that the joy of making kids happy is half the reward.

This is false.

It's deeply troubling to look into a child's eyes

and tell them they'll get exactly

what they want for Christmas.

When you can tell from the kid's clothes,

there's no way their parents are gonna afford

an electric scooter or gaming console

or whatever.

It's a flat out lie.

My whole career is a disgusting facade,

and I don't get any more joy from it than I get from

cleaning up my sick dog's mess every night

when I get home.

Oof. It looks like someone did not get enough milk

and cookies this year.

I guess not. Jason, for our next story...

for our next story, A brand new homeless shelter is

set to open downtown funded only

by donations from the general public.

The shelter will be able to provide beds to hundreds

and meals to thousands.

Jodie, isn't it great?

The generosity of people around the holidays?

You're fired.

Glenda, please. You, you have to gimme another chance.

Jason completely sabotaged me out there.

No Jodie, you sabotaged yourself,

But he completely bulldozed me!

Look, I know that the situation between you

and Jason, it's complicated, but this is a workplace

and what happened today, it's completely unacceptable.

We had a discussion before we started the broadcast.

We agreed on everything,

and then he decided to flip the script.

So you just throw water in his face.

He made me look like an idiot.

Look, let me stop you right there.

I love you, Jodie, but it's not just

about what happened today.

You obviously don't care about this job like you used to.

I mean, you used to come in here

every day with new stories

that you really want to report on.

Everyone, everyone looked up at you

because you were great.

But from last year, it just seems

that you don't really care about this job anymore.

So I think that maybe this is not the right place for you.

I'm sorry it was wrong of me. I will admit that.

But I love my job.

I've been here for three years and I always have.

Please, if you could just give me one more chance,

I promise, I promise you will not regret it.

Two days.

To do what?

To prove that this is the right job for you.

So I'm not fired.

No, you're still fired.

But if you can bring me a story

that really blows me away by Christmas Eve, then

I'll give you the Christmas broadcast

and maybe can have your job back.

You've got a deal.

No, it's not a deal. It's a favor.

Yes, ma'am. I, I'm just so excited to be back.

Yeah. And it's a big, maybe

because I'm looking for other people to fill your position.

Other? Other people?

Yep.

You wanted to speak to me.

Five minutes.

This story has to be really, really, really great. Jodie.

I want something family oriented,

wholesome, something.

Christmas.

You can count on me.

Great.

My aunt lives up in Montrose.

where they practically worship Christmas.

She, she has this perfect little house up there

and she's been on vacation for months.

So I can be alone up there

and really delve into the research and

I don't care.

You're not gonna regret this.

Okay.

Good morning, Mr. Jones.

Will see you in 45 minutes.

Will bring products as requested

and send. Right.

Nice.

Oh, okay.

Okay. You got this William.

Just remember what Mom always says.

Smile, and let them talk

themselves into your business. Okay? Yeah.

Smile.

You've reached Julie,

and if you know me, then you know better than

to call me when I'm in Miami.

Leave a message and I'll decide if I wanna talk to you.

Hi Aunt Julie. It's Jodie.

I can tell you're having fun,

so you don't have to call me back.

I'm gonna be at your house for the next few days.

I'm researching a new story. Figured that'd be all right.

I'll leave the place cleaner than I found it.

Love you. Bye.

Oh, excuse me. No worries.

So what do you have for me, William?

Oh, as you requested,

these are our latest models.

Can I see? Yes, of course.

So those babies are made from the

highest grade of polypropylene.

They're also completely carbon neutral,

and above all, they're just fun.

Oh, if I wanted these in my store,

can I have them by Christmas Eve?

Oh, I can have 'em by tomorrow.

So tell me, why should I pick you instead

of the supplier I've been with for 10 plus years?

Well, first of all, Mr. Jones, I want to say

that I always support loyalty in business.

My company still has clients when it was first

founded almost 30 years ago.

But since you reached out to us,

I'd imagine that you already know that

what the other company doesn't have,

I can't speak on their behalf,

but I can say that if you do work with me,

all of your toys will be made ethically

with sustainable resources

Now as for our prices.

I'm sure you're already familiar

with those from our emails.

It's the same for every client.

There are no special privileges, no favorites.

We try to keep everything running smoothly

and make everyone happy.

Very professional for a toy guy, William.

But more than that, you're an honest salesman.

That's what sets you apart

from the other companies.

I would love working with you moving forward as long

as you can promise me that you will be my first contact.

If I have any questions

or need to reorder.

That I can absolutely guarantee.

It's a pleasure

doing business with you.

Sir, I think I'm gonna go home

and make myself a celebratory cocktail,

I was thinking I'd do the same.

Hey, Aunt Julie, it's me again.

I just got to your house.

I'm really gonna hunker down

and write a good Christmas story

so I can get my job back.

I wish you were here. It'll feel really lonely in

the house by myself.

Not used to that. Anyway, I love you.

Call me back,

Jerk.

Julie. Julie,

Come on. Open.

Julie, come on, Julie you okay?

Hey!

Come on. open.

Oh my God Get out.

Oh, oh, my guns.

Get out!

Get out right now or I'll mace you

You have guns!

Sorry. Sorry.

Get out.

Get out!

You kicked him out?

Why was he here? Who even is he?

William is the sweetest guy I've ever

met. You would love him.

Well, I don't understand what you want me to do

because one minute I'm taking a nap,

and the next some guy is breaking

through the front door

covered in mud and carrying a gun.

But I'm telling you, he's great. He loves Christmas.

Maybe he could help you with your story.

I still don't understand

what this guy's even doing here.

He's there because of his mother.

What?

Last year he found out

she had cancer.

He's been paying for her treatments

and had to sell his house.

I told him my place would be empty for a while

so he could stay there.

He's good guy.

Jodie, what's happening to his mother is really a sad story

now more than ever.

He could really use a friend.

You should really reach out, Jodie.

Yeah. It's not bad.

I came up here to be alone.

And I don't even know what I would say to this guy.

I'm sure you'll come up with something.

You're a reporter after all.

Just start by asking a question.

Huh.

Hey, Katie, I was wondering if I could do my work in here,

but I'm not gonna get any coffee.

Yeah, of course. You can work here anytime you want.

Cool. Thank you so much.

Shoot.

Hey, you shouldn't sneak up on people like that.

Sorry.

Mind if I sit down, I promise I won't mace you.

I'm Jodie,

my aunt tells me your name is William.

It's a shame you didn't ask me yourself.

Look, I, I'm really sorry about yesterday.

I had no idea anyone else was staying at the house.

Let me buy you a drink. I can get you coffee, please.

I wouldn't say no to a hot chocolate

Deal.

Wait, can you ask for extra whip cream?

You got it.

Here you go.

Thank you.

Extra whipped cream. I hope you like it.

- It's delicious. Thank you. - Whatcha working on?

- I'm emailing a client. - A client for what?

- I sell toys. - No way.

Yeah. I sell online distributors

and they sell them to parents and such.

- Do you like it? - Yeah, I do.

It's rewarding and pays the bills. So,

But not all the bills.

Listen, I know we got off on the wrong foot,

but I...I also know that you need a place to stay

and you were sort of there first.

So if you want to come back to the house, you can,

You promise you won't yell at me

as soon as I walk through the door.

I promise.

- All right, - I'll come back.

But I really don't think that we

should hang out at all though.

I mean, I...I sort of came to the house to be alone.

I'm, I'm researching and writing a story for my work.

Alright. You won't even know I'm there.

Say if you can't afford to pay rent right now,

how come you bought all those Christmas decorations?

Oh, I already had 'em.

Christmas is my favorite time of the year.

Okay.

Oh one thing that you should really remember is to smile

as much as possible.

Like, I know it's like cliché,

but there's a ton of research behind it.

You know, the bigger the smile,

the bigger the audience.

I mean, it's the easiest way to get people

to like you, you know?

Oh my gosh. I totally just

cut you off. What were you saying?

Oh, I just wanted to confirm who was gonna say

what since I know that you

and Jodie would sometimes get confused and switch things up.

Yeah. But that was like mostly her, so

I know.

I mean, it's why she got fired. So.

I know. I just wanted

to make sure we're on the same page about me taking the

lead on the second story.

Show me.

Well, it's this one about the kids.

I figured I would start things out.

Okay. Well, you know,

I was thinking since it was your first

day that I kind of take the lead on it

and I do most of the talking.

I just kinda want to like, ease into it.

Well, Glenda said it would be great for me to start.

Oh, Glenda's really good. I mean,

she's fantastic at what she does.

I mean, she manages this place like no one else could,

but she doesn't really know a lot about the

dynamic that you need on screen.

I can understand that.

I just think

that if I don't say much it might confuse people

about what I'm doing here.

Okay. Glenda's right there.

I'm just gonna talk to her about this really quick.

- Oh, okay. - And we'll see. Yeah.

Hey, good to see you. Hey, hey. So

What is it?

I need to know where Jodie is.

- No, - Wait.

Glenda please like, I really have to talk to her

and she hasn't been answering any of my calls, so

That's a very big sign that she

actually doesn't wanna talk to you.

Glenda, please. I, I need this

And I need you to be on right now.

Go. Thank you.

Alright, everybody quiet down.

Jason and Jessica are live in three, two.

Good morning and welcome back

to Channel Five News. I'm Jason Moore.

And I'm Jessica Russell.

Our first story this morning,

the shelter project is going

to have to be postponed

indefinitely due to a crippling lack

of donations from the public.

It looks like Christmas for the local homeless.

Just might have to wait until next year.

And...

And it also seems as though a lot of growth.

- Thanks for the ride. - Oh yeah.

I figured you shouldn't have

to ride your bike back if you didn't have to.

Should we go in?

Yeah. Let's,

So I am guessing you already know

your way around the house.

Do you have any questions or can I get you anything?

Cool.

So about the master bedroom, I sort

of already unpacked everything in there

before I knew that anyone else was staying in the house.

So should we maybe have a discussion about who's

gonna take the room?

- Just keep the room. - Are you sure?

Yeah. I'll just take the guest room.

Thank you. What are you up to today?

Oh, got some work I need to finish up on.

Gonna email back some clients. So

Nice.

Yeah. Okay.

I'm gonna,

were you wearing that shirt yesterday?

I was, yes.

Because you kicked me out. Couldn't change.

Right.

I'm gonna go.

- Oh - My gosh.

I, I'm so sorry. I'll clean that up.

No worries.

- Hey, - Good morning.

Good morning.

How'd you sleep?

Wonderfully. Thanks for asking. Yourself?

Not bad. What are you up to today?

Well, I'm just cleaning some dishes,

but I have a meeting today.

Then after that I'll just come back

here, get some work done.

Oh,

I thought you didn't drink coffee.

I don't. But you do.

Thought I'd save you a trip this morning.

I mean, only if you like it.

Of course.

Thank you.

Let's see how you did.

Mmm. Wow. That's amazing. Thank you so much.

You're welcome. My mom loves coffee,

so I've gotten pretty good at it.

I love to stay and chat more, but I really gotta get going.

Okay. I'll see you later.

Thank you again for the coffee.

You are welcome. Have a good day.

- Hey. - Hi.

How was your meeting today?

It was good. Really good. Yeah.

Most of my work is remote, so

that's when we actually see people.

- Nice. - What do you up to?

I was just about to go and get some dinner.

Nice. Are you going out or?

No, I was probably just gonna make some soup.

Sounds good.

Do you soup?

Would, would you

soup with me?

Do you want some?

Yeah. Sounds delightful.

It made me realize how mean donkeys are.

So how long have you been in Montrose?

Mm. My whole life.

Really? Yeah. No way. What do you like about it?

Always the people. Everyone here is super nice.

You know, growing up I was

that stereotypical shy kid with no friends.

I got picked on a little bit,

but I had this teacher named Ms.

Flagan. She always used to eat lunch with me.

- Really? - Yeah.

There was a teacher's lounge she could've ate at,

but she always wanted me to sit next

to somebody to eat lunch.

- That is really sweet. - Yeah.

Kids were especially cruel

about that little act of kindness.

I never told her that though. It meant a lot to me,

getting to sit next to someone, you know,

your Aunt Julie kind of reminds me of her.

Yeah, they're both a little bit strange.

Yeah, that sounds like Aunt Julie. Hmm.

How did you two meet by the way?

We met at a cooking class a couple years back.

Mm.

Since then, I just kind of ran into her all over town.

Yeah.

You two are close, huh?

Yeah, we've always been really close.

Do you ever get to hang out with her

much when you're here?

Not as much as I'd like.

I love Montrose, but it's just too far away from work.

So what are you doing up here?

I am actually working on a project

that's more local to here.

Mm. Also just really love being here.

I'm actually starting to think of

moving here to settle down one day.

Well, this is a great place to live.

Oh. I'm getting a phone call. Excuse me.

- You're fine. - Hi, this is William.

Oh, okay.

Yes, I understand.

Okay. I'll be right there.

Are you okay?

Can you drive me to the hospital?

Yeah, of course. What's wrong?

It's, it's, it's my mom. We need to go. Come on.

Hey, what's going on? How is she?

There's no reason to panic. She's perfectly stable now.

Okay, good.

Hi. You must be at William's Mom.

You can call me Sandy and who might you be?

Oh, I'm Jodie.

I'm a friend of your son's.

A friend. I see.

She's, she's gonna be fine.

She's doing fine for now.

But if she has another episode like this, we may have

to resort to emergency surgery.

But isn't that risky

For a case like this?

The success rate's about 60%,

but if everything goes well,

that could mean the end of the cancer.

And if it's not a success?

Just remember we're here for you.

And when he was five years old,

he tried to befriend a bee

and he was so hurt when he got stung.

'cause he thought that they could be friends.

That's so sweet.

- Hey Mom. - Hello sweetie.

- How you feeling? - I've been a little down,

but you're a beautiful friend here

that's helping me cheer up quite nicely.

I'm glad you two are getting along.

So how long have you two been, uh, friends?

We actually just met.

She chased me outta Julies house with mace.

Well, everyone goes

through rough patches in the beginning.

Look, Mom, I want you

to tell the doctors everything you've been feeling, okay?

Okay son.

And please make sure that you're eating okay.

If you don't like what they're giving to you, just call me

and I'll bring you something else to eat.

- Alright? I'll try. - Okay. I love you, Mom.

I love you too. And I'll see you.

Christmas morning, Mom.

I believe each of us can learn

a valuable lesson from William and his mom.

Their story is the perfect embodiment

of the age old Christmas message

that, while material possessions can be important

and are often used this season to spread joy

and love, we must never forget that the most important gift

of all is family.

Okay, Glenda, there you go.

- Hey, it's me. - One second.

- Come in. - Hey.

Hi. What's up?

Mind if I sit?

Go Ahead.

Okay.

I just wanted to say thank you

for taking me to the hospital.

I'm sorry if I scared you with the false alarm.

No, I, it's totally okay.

I'm just happy that I could help.

Is that all?

There was one more thing.

I know that you're busy with work

and you came here to be alone.

But you know, I don't wanna take too much up of your time.

I was just wondering

that maybe we can take a couple hours off tomorrow

to go ice skating with me.

Tomorrow's Christmas Eve.

You don't have any other plans?

- Nope. Do you? - Nope.

So we'll go.

Yeah, I think that would be a lot of fun.

Okay. Wow. Awesome.

Guess I'll see you tomorrow.

- Sounds good. - Sounds good.

Seven o'clock.

- How about five? - Better. Okay.

Well guess I'll get,

Alright, have a good night.

Good night, William.

Hello, Glenda.

Are you serious? Yes.

Yes, of course. I, I'll be there.

I'll be there early tomorrow.

No, no, thank you. Okay

Okay. Thank you. Bye.

Oh, you were so good yesterday.

- Really? - Yeah.

You are not just saying that.

No, no, no, no. Are you kidding?

Listen, you were confident, you were well spoken,

you were smiling.

I mean, honestly, it was fantastic. Thanks.

Oh, and for today,

what you should do is try pulling in your

chin a little like this.

- Yeah, okay. - I mean,

it looks really good on camera when you're not all like,

you know, like a giraffe or something.

I didn't realize I was doing that.

Oh, I mean, you barely were.

And it's a small thing,

but around here, perfection is something that we strive for.

- Okay, I got it. - Yeah.

Jodie's coming back for Christmas.

Wait, where? Where is,

Do you think it's just for Christmas?

Huh?

Do you think it's just for Christmas?

Oh, for sure.

Listen, you don't have to worry about it at all, Jess.

This job is gonna be yours for good.

Trust me. I'll put in a good word.

Ah,

Montrose.

One second.

Come in!

Hey. Hi.

I'm about to go and get some groceries for my mom.

So I just want to come in

and make sure we're still on for tonight.

Yes, I excited.

Me too. This is kind

of embarrassing, but could you drive us tonight?

- Yes, of course. - Awesome. Okay. Well,

I'll see you tonight.

- Yeah, I'll see you tonight. - Bye.

Bye.

Okay, so you see that mountain over there?

There?

Yeah.

That mountain. That's, oh be careful

You okay? Yeah.

Oh, I had no idea.

See, smell. You like that?

No.

No, it's true.

Yeah. Okay.

No, Santa is real.

That's My favorite kind of memory, You?

Well, it was this one time

and that year my mom got me a dog for Christmas,

so I wouldn't keep the moose

Your mom is so sweet.

I'm glad I got to meet her.

I'm glad you gotta meet her too.

She's probably planning our wedding as we speak.

- Are you ready to go? - Yeah, let's go.

Are you ready to go out there?

Yeah, Sure am.

Yeah. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little nervous.

Nervous? Why are you nervous?

No reason.

William.

Hmm?

Is this your first time ice skating?

All that talk about loving Christmas

and the holiday spirit

and you, you of all people have never been ice skating.

I mean, it's not like I never wanted to go.

I've always wanted to go ice skating during Christmas

time before now.

I never had anybody to go with.

Well, don't worry. I will take very good care of you.

Okay.

I trust you.

Come on!

Has the swelling gone down?

No

Thanks

I'm so sorry.

I feel terrible.

It's not your fault. I blame all those Christmas

movies for making it look so easy.

I can't imagine you ever wanting to try that again.

Is that how much little faith you have in me?

You'll see once this baby gets healed up,

I'll be flying across that ice like an angel.

- Well, cheers to that. - Hear hear.

So have you and your mom always been close?

We had a couple of rough patches back, you know,

when I didn't wanna pick up my toys.

But once we figured that out, you know.

Yeah, we got pretty close.

My mom's my number one fan.

She worked really hard to support me growing up,

and now I'm trying to do my best to turn the favor.

That's really great of you.

Your mom is, she's just lovely.

Yeah, she really is.

She carries the whole world on her shoulders.

What about you? You got any family out here?

Oh, my parents are still in Fort Scott,

Kansas where I grew up.

I moved out to LA when I was 20.

Oh, nice. Do you go back out there much?

Not much. They do sometimes come out to visit me though.

They love being shown around the big city.

But I get so busy with work that it's,

it's hard to get out there.

- You're a journalist, right? - And an anchor.

And an anchor. Wow.

I didn't realize I was on a date with a celebrity.

No, I am not a celebrity.

And you never said anything about a date.

- I didn't. - Nope.

Could have sworn. Well,

now is as good a time as ever.

Jodie, will you accompany me on a date

tonight to the ice skating rink?

You know what? I think I will.

Great. I can't wait.

Oh no. What's wrong?

It's just my ankle.

It's obviously it's, it's swollen.

I just, I don't think we can go out skating tonight.

Dang, I guess we'll have to have to date here.

Shucks. I guess so. What a bummer.

- Hey, easy there. - I'm kidding. I'm kidding.

So what story are you working on now?

Oh, local churches doing a food

and toy drive for the kids in need.

So.

Covering that

Nice.

It's wholesome.

You got a little something right?

You know, Jodie, you're really beautiful.

You're not so bad yourself, Ice Angel.

Next time. I promise I won't let you fall

And I won't let go of your hand.

Thanks for driving tonight.

Yeah, of course.

You gonna be able

to ride your bike with that?

Yeah, I'll be fine. I just need to rest it well tonight.

Jodie. Jodie, I know you're in there, please.

Oh my Gosh.

Jodie!

What? Oh, something. My teeth.

Oh no.

Jodie,

Could you just wait here for a second?

Hold on

I have been trying.

What the heck are you doing here?

I've been trying to reach you, but you

haven't been answering any of my calls

Yeah, because I blocked you. How did you find me?

I mean, we've been together so long.

You think I'd be able to figure it out?

No, you have to go.

I don't wanna talk to you. You have to leave

Jodie.

Who is this guy?

- William? - I'm her fiancé.

No, no, you're not. I dumped you.

Okay. I don't recall you using those words.

What in the world is going on here?

Oh, you must be Mr. Christmas.

Excuse me?

I mean, I've read a lot about you, you

and your poor mom are really excited about your

15 minutes tomorrow.

- What are you talking about? - Oh.

Oh, you haven't told him

Jodie. What's he talking about?

William? There's so much you don't know.

I mean, you're the new darling of Channel Five news.

Don't touch me.

You were using me.

William. No, no, no, no.

It's, it's not like that. Please.

William. William. Wait,

Jodie, listen.

I know it's hard, but I need you. Okay.

Give me a second chance. I

know that there's been hard times.

I know I'm stupid a lot.

Let go with me.

William,

William,

Jodie, Jodie, come, come back here.

Just get out of here. Jason. I don't wanna talk to you.

Jodie, I'm hurting.

I cannot go through something like this again,

but I...I'm willing to hear you out.

I just,

- God, just please leave. - I need to talk about this.

Jodie, come on. Stop crying and come out here.

- It's just me, Mom. - Oh, it's something wrong.

Ah, no. Nothing's wrong.

I just wanna be by you tonight.

- It's Christmas. Mom. - Merry Christmas William.

Merry Christmas Mom.

Oh, oh boy.

Aunt Julie?

Jodie.

Oh, I missed you.

That's how you greet people in Florida. It's very exotic.

I, I I don't understand.

Oh, Jodie, dear, you would not believe the day of travel

that I have just endured.

Did you know that taxi drivers,

they try to talk to you now?

My driver was relentless, was just like, yap, yap, yap.

But I don't even know what about,

when all I wanted

after that flight was just a little peace and quiet.

I'm sorry.

Oh, don't be. It wasn't your fault.

Oh, that bag, the big one,

that's for you. Merry Christmas.

Yeah. I thought you might like some good moisturizer,

you know, on account of all the winter dryness.

But make sure you put it on every day.

Thank you.

Or else you'll age like me. I'm just kidding.

I look fantastic.

What are you doing here?

Oh, you think I'm gonna miss a Christmas in Montrose?

Not a chance. That bag, that's what I got from William.

Well, he's gonna love this.

Oh, it smells just like Christmas, smell it.

It smells good.

Where in the world is that man?

He's not working on Christmas, is he?

Well, I...

Aw, sweetie.

Hey, don't cry. He doesn't deserve you.

You're way better than him.

No, I'm not.

I exploited him and his mom

for success at My job.

- Oh, - Well that's very bad.

And now Glenda wants me to read the story live on

the air, but I can't do that now

Because I...

I love him.

And I'm just so confused

and broken.

And I just miss you so much.

You are strong. I know it.

What do I do, Aunt Julie?

I think you know what to do.

You're right. I, I, I I gotta go.

Thank you, Aunt Julie I love you.

I'm so sorry I can't stay and catch up more right now.

But I'll see you later, okay?

You go do what you gotta do.

Okay.

I love you. Bye.

Love you too. Good luck.

Who in the world put up all these Christmas decorations?

Hey Mom, it's Christmas.

Hey Mom. Wake up. It's Christmas.

William.

Mom Huh? You okay? Come on,

Doc. What's going on?

Take a deep breath.

We're going into surgery now.

Is that absolutely necessary?

You, you told me

it's the only chance she's got.

Doctor, we need you.

What should I do?

You just have to pray for a Christmas miracle.

Mom, you're going to beat this.

I love you.

What are you all doing out on Christmas.

What happened? What are you wearing?

I can't talk about this right now.

Merry Christmas, Jodie.

Merry Christmas, Robby.

You are up in 10 seconds.

I know! What?

Good morning,

nice pants.

Shut up.

Excuse me.

Can you turn this up?

Oh, for sure William.

I'd like to be the first

to welcome back, Jodie.

It's been my understanding

that you spent the last few days in Montrose.

That's right. Jason and I had a great time.

Why don't you tell us a little more about that?

Well, Montrose is a really wonderful little town

that really deserves a visit from those

of you that haven't gone.

But while I was there, I met,

I met

myself,

or at least a version of myself

that I haven't seen in a very long time.

You see, I've been doing this for a while,

but I don't think I ever fully realized just how much

what we say matters.

And today is Christmas.

So I'd like to take the occasion to say some things

that have been on my heart.

What is she doing?

People often think of Montrose

as this small town obsessed with Christmas.

But that's, that's not at all what it is to them.

Sincere kindness isn't just for Christmas day.

It's a year round lifestyle.

And something inside of me has been filled

with the Christmas spirit.

The people I met while I was there showed me

kindness that I didn't even know still existed.

And for that, I'll be forever grateful.

That's it. I'm going to stop her

Wait! People are really tuning in.

We're getting thousands of first time viewers.

How can that even be

possible a thousand new viewers?

Well, I mean, they're scattered from all over.

But it looks like people are really tuning in from,

Montrose

Christmas.

It's the most wonderful thing in the world.

And it's not even just in Montrose.

It's inside every one of us.

Sometimes it just takes the right moment

or person to bring it out of us.

So next time you meet someone, don't think about

what they can do for you.

Instead, think about what you can do to make sure

that they know that somebody cares.

And big ways or small, it makes a difference.

Now. Go ahead and turn off your TVs

and gather your loved ones

and have a merry, merry Christmas.

- Yes. - And...

We're off!

You could have given me a heads up.

I know. I'm sorry. It was all very last.

It was good.

Welcome back.

Thank you

Jodie.

What was that?

We're supposed to be sticking to the teleprompter.

Jason zip it.

What? You, you're okay with this?

She came out here and threw our entire script.

Like you even helped write that.

Like, what do you

Jason, you're fired.

What?

You heard me.

No, I didn't.

What I heard was Jay-sen you're fired.

Well, Jay-sen doesn't exist.

Ja-son is un-fireable.

No one here can do what I can do.

Like name a single person that can do what I can do.

Robby said you wanted to talk to me.

Yes. See you in my office in five. Thank you.

You know, I've put up with you for so long

and I really, really don't want to do that anymore.

So, yes, Jason, you're fired.

So please go home. Thank you.

I hate Christmas.

I would like to see you in my office too, after Jessica.

What?

Can we take a rain check on that.

Just this once

I, I really need to go talk to William.

Okay. Just because it's Christmas.

But you have to be early tomorrow

because we need to talk

Yes. You, you, you

got a deal. Okay. Thank you.

And wear work clothes,

please.

- William. Oh, - Hey. Hey, Doc.

Is, is she all right? Is is she okay?

She's fine.

- What? - The surgery went great.

She will be making a full recovery

and she should be able to go home in a couple days.

Thank you so much

William.

Jodie

I, I'm so sorry I lied to you.

I should have never used you.

I should have been honest with you from the very beginning.

I'm the one who needs to apologize.

I, I should have trusted you,

but I, I just assumed the worst.

I'm sorry.

- Is everything okay? - Everything's perfect.

- I love you. - I love you too.
