[Episode 10]

Grandmother,

why did you keep your condition a secret?

Those senior officials

won't dare touch the Ban family as long as I'm around.

But once they found out I was sick, they'd surely come at us.

Understand?

I'm confused about one thing.

You had helped Physician Zhang a lot.

Why did he try to poison you?

He's timid by nature,

and must've acted under coercion.

That's not an excuse.

Hadn't it been for Count Cheng'an,

- there would've been dire consequences. - Hua Hua.

This Count Cheng'an is secretive.

You must watch out for him.

Are you warning me against someone who helped us?

Gentlemen put principles before themselves,

while the snobs are the opposite.

Physician Zhang meant to protect himself, but Count Cheng'an

is a mystery even to me.

Grandmother, you're worrying too much.

I can't read his mind, either,

but I'm sure he won't harm us.

If one day he dares to do that,

I will beat him to a pulp.

When can you act like a lady?

- Nanny. - Princess.

Grandmother said Physician Zhang was under threat, but by whom?

Who would dare touch our people?

Prince Luo did it?

All that about the Tiger Tally is a secret.

Few have access to it other than His Majesty and some senior officials.

Clearly, he was plotting against Crown Prince.

The rest of us were only his pawns.

Now that Her Highness is safe,

the mastermind will pay the price eventually.

Don't bother yourself with it.

Grandmother's safety is at risk. I must get to the bottom of it.

Your Grace! Your Grace!

I've tracked Physician Zhang down.

He's hiding outside the city! Let's go!

- Let's go! - Let's go!

Who is it?

It's me, Princess.

I was about to bring Her Highness freshly made desserts.

This is it, Your Grace.

The open door must be a sham.

I won't take it.

Let's go.

Count Cheng'an!

What are you doing here?

I said I'd find out the truth for you.

Thank you.

Who's the culprit?

Don't know yet.

Someone is there.

- I'll take the back door. - You take the back door.

Come!

It's clear.

He's gone. You must seize him, Your Grace.

Relax. Count Cheng'an is waiting to catch him in the back.

We got company. Go help Count Cheng'an.

I got this. We cannot lose that physician again.

Here.

Bring it on.

Spare me, please!

Go, Young Master!

Let's go!

I didn't expect you'd save me, Count.

Physician Zhang, why did Prince Luo want Princess Royal dead?

What's he up to?

Here's the thing.

That day, I overheard him saying...

Silencing a witness!

Good to see you again, Count Cheng'an.

Have you considered my offer?

I never work with people I don't know.

You're the wisest man in the country.

I gave you that letter for a reason.

I hope you can enlighten me.

No one dares to reopen the case of the Rongs' deaths.

Prince Luo is your only hope to get justice.

Don't you agree?

He appreciates men of talent.

A fine fowl like you should perch on a fine tree.

He...

He... Who killed him?

Physician Zhang,

Luo...

Luo...

Prince Luo! Jiang Luo!

He did it.

Don't jump to conclusions.

I should've known that only he would go so low.

Bastard! How dare he!

Princess.

Thanks for your help. Good day.

Hua Hua, who told you Prince Luo tried to harm your grandmother?

He's going to meet his doom by hurting her.

Calm down.

He's too dumb to cause too much damage.

Because of him, Grandmother almost...

Anyway, he's a pest.

Hua has a point.

Did you... dream about something else?

No.

Think about it.

What he said and did at the banquet showed he has ill-intentions.

Things that happened lately can't all be coincidences.

You're paranoid.

Everything is fine, isn't it?

What do you know?

Without Count Cheng'an, we'd be in grave danger.

You'd better prepare gifts to thank him.

Heng'er is right.

That's our top priority.

Bad news, Young Master!

How many times have I told you to stay calm at all...

Hua?

May I ask...

I'm here to see Huahua.

That's too kind of you to come with so many gifts.

I like the cat. They're all for Huahua.

- Ban Heng. - Coming!

Let's go. Come.

Hurry!

Huahua, it must be tough living with such a quiet handler.

You think so, too?

She's even making a move on a cat.

My sister came for you.

Stop pretending.

My cat seems to like you.

Generally speaking, both humans and cats find me likable.

Those who are dull,

seemingly aloof and scheming are the only exceptions.

Count Cheng'an, which category are you in?

I always appreciate an honest free spirit like you.

So do you like me or not?

You're making me confused.

You're such a straight shooter.

Let's go.

For good judges of character, it's impossible to not like you.

Don't sweet-talk me.

Someday, I'll crack you.

Eat up.

Don't be like those bony nerds.

What's wrong with them?

They're quiet and considerate without showing others their claws.

So much better than a violent-tempered and untamed kitty, isn't it?

So what if it's loud and has a temper?

Must everyone be a mute fox?

A nerd or a mute fox, you should know what Huahua thinks

even if he doesn't tell you, right?

How could I? I'm not a mind-reader!

I'm not a cat. It can't be me, either.

Ban Heng! Ban Heng!

Ban Heng! Ban...

- Here. - There's a crowd outside your mansion.

What are they doing there?

To propose marriage to your sister.

This has been a Yan family heirloom for 100 years.

It's too generous of them to offer this simply for proposal.

Mrs. Yan loves her son dearly.

I've long heard about that.

The bracelet is to welcome Princess into Prime Minister's family.

It's good.

Their son isn't too bad.

But his mother is a problem.

Ying Bangbang, give it back.

- Show her out. - Please.

Count, why are you out with me?

I don't want you to feel bored.

Would you like to hear a story?

Go ahead. I'm listening.

Once upon a time, a bird fairy nested in the mountain,

while a bird hunter lived at the foot.

- He... - That bird fell in love with him but got caught eventually.

That's cliché.

Why don't you tell me about your story?

My story?

You're the most renowned gentleman.

Have you had any crush on girls?

Never.

Bonehead!

Count Cheng'an,

if you must marry someone among Shi Feixian, Xie Wanyu, and Li Xiaoru,

which one would you choose?

Young Master Ban, girls' marriages aren't something to joke about.

And what you asked would only annoy Princess.

Choose!

Well, Miss Xie is tender and caring

and she'll be a good wife and mother.

Miss Li is elegant and graceful who owns tons of suitors.

As for Miss Shi,

other than being virtuous, she's more talented than others.

But marriage calls for mutual love.

It can't be forced.

I thought you had better taste.

I've decided to go on a date with Yan Zhen.

Princess, will you not only meet with him?

Are you regretting it now?

I can't wait to experience mutual love.

Marriage is no small matter.

You'd better think carefully.

Aren't you fond of those three?

Why do you care about my marriage?

I didn't mean I like them. I just...

Count Cheng'an, don't worry.

My older sister will never be with Yan Zhen.

He has a reputation. Everyone knows it.

If she married him...

- Darling. - Do you like this scent?

What's that?

My mother said it'd bring us good fortune.

All right.

And the dates, too.

My mother said that'd be perfect.

Are you going to bed or not?

Stop, stop, stop!

My mother said to stop making babies once the incense burns out,

or it'd be bad for my health.

Can't you burn another one?

Mother!

May I burn another one? [Madam Yan]

Time is over for today.

Try again tomorrow.

He's fussy other than being a mama's boy.

You can't stand him.

So whoever marries him will suffer.

My mother said it doesn't suit you.

Not that one, either, she said.

What should I wear?

She said a lady must dress properly.

I look just like your mother!

No, no, no! Please divorce me.

Mother, my wife is asking for a divorce.

Divorce? I won't allow it!

Is he really like that?

You don't believe me?

Ask him.

Leave now!

Get out! Out!

I've made it clear and rejected this marriage.

Marrying Prime Minister's son is sheer bliss.

You should be honored and grateful.

How could you turn it down?

Excuse me?

Watch your tone.

Is that a proposal or a threat?

I'm sorry. Please forgive me, Princess.

This is a gift from Mrs. Yan.

Please take it.

What should I do about it?

Tell the exact words to Yan Zhen that I, Ban Hua,

will only marry someone I love who also loves me back.

Princess...

[Memorandum to the Throne]

[The plot enraged His Majesty. The Rong family will be gone by tomorrow.]

[The plot enraged His Majesty. The Rong family will be gone by tomorrow.]

Is that Prime Minister's handwriting?

Young Master Xie,

how can you prove Minister Yan wrote it?

You have easy access to Yan Hui's handwriting.

Compare them yourself.

They're identical.

[The Rong family will be gone by tomorrow.] They're identical.

It's been so long.

A letter alone isn't...

[Memorandum to the Throne Yan]

[Yan] Yan?

Yan Hui?

Princess Ban has arrived!

Why is she here?

Is what she's wearing a hairpin or some headwear?

I don't know.

It looks cute, though.

- Have some tea, Princess. - No, thanks.

Welcome, Princess.

Feel free to enjoy all the food and drinks here.

Thank you, Sir Shi.

Count, care to drink with me?

Thanks for asking, but I'd rather not embarrass myself again.

I prefer seeing you drunk.

You mean to give me a hard time today, don't you?

Will you drink or not?

Crown Prince and Crown Princess have arrived!

Greetings. I hope I didn't interrupt you.

Brother-in-law. Older Sister.

I didn't expect you'd come home.

Crown Prince knew I was homesick, and asked Royal Father to come back with me especially.

It's all set. Don't worry.

Older Sister.

Count Cheng'an, would you join me for tea?

Tea? Sure.

What you got, Cousin?

I...

My older brother would like to have a word with you.

Sir Shi?

What's up?

- I... - We can have tea together after you finish.

Prin... Princess, I can give you a tour around here.

But I'm not interested.

Take my younger brother instead.

He hasn't been here before.

I...

It's my pleasure to have finally met you, Princess.

I'm Yan Zhen.

So you're Yan Zhen!

So... would you like a tour around the house?

Count Cheng'an, you're old enough to marry.

Don't wait too long.

Thank you for your concern, Crown Prince and Crown Princess.

I've devoted myself to His Majesty with no time for a relationship.

Rong Xia, we studied together for a long time.

I know you the best.

If you ask me, your perfect match

is right here.

What's here?

Hua'er, you...

Why are you having tea without me?

I'm sorry. My bad.

Something is going on behind my back.

Go on. Continue with what you were doing.

I'll sip at my tea. Pretend I'm not here.

All right. The more the merrier.

Please, Crown Prince.

Sure.

Count Cheng'an...

is erudite and pure as the melted snow water from Snow Mountain.

He sounds unnatural.

What are the odds!

My younger sister is also into literature.

She's unworldly...

as the newly sprouted leaves.

Really?

Not that I know of.

Count, look, the tea leaves endured changes of seasons

while the water flowed through ranges of mountains to have finally gathered here.

That's sheer serendipity, isn't it?

What's going on?

I can't agree more.

Fate has brought us together.

Count Cheng'an, stop pretending.

I know my younger sister better than others.

Older Sister.

Feixian, why don't you tell him how you feel?

Your Highness, you must be joking.

Miss Shi is still single.

Her reputation shouldn't be damaged.

Do you mean my younger sister isn't good enough for you?

Miss Shi is virtuous and more talented than others.

I...

Why do I find that familiar?

As for Miss Shi, other than being virtuous,

she's more talented than others.

So you're setting them up, aren't you?

Why go to such great lengths?

I can save you the trouble, Cousin.

Princess, don't be rude.

Shi Feixian, tell me! Do you want to marry Count Cheng'an?

I...

A knot is waiting to be tied.

Stop there.

I don't understand a word.

Count Cheng'an, do you want to marry Shi Feixian?

Count Cheng'an!

I'm asking you.

Do you want to marry her?

I...

I put the state before my marriage.

See? That's a no.

Cousin, stop wasting your time.

What a shame!

As the most talented ones in the state,

you two could've made a perfect couple.

Too bad!

Bland.

What's this?

This one looks good.

I got it first. Let go.

Why does she have to do what you say?

Don't, Younger Sister!

Prince Luo.

Who are you to steal food from me?

Be a man! Aren't you ashamed of yourself?

Food concerns no gender.

Let him have it. I'm good.

I've had enough. Take this.

Is that a handout?

Get rid of it.

I'll ask the kitchen to make you some.

Young Master Ban is indeed a foodie.

Don't you like that headwear?

I can ask him about it.

Excuse me, Young Master Ban, where did your older sister get that headwear on her?

It was made according to her design.

She designed it?

Why? Are you jealous?

Why would I?

It looks strange.

Let's go.

Come on. Let's go.

Don't you like it?

I think her design is still at home.

Hang on.

May I have a look?

You can, but it's not for free.

I don't need money or...

I can make you desserts.

Deal.

[Brilliant Flowers Blooming]

Princess, may I speak to you in private?

About what? Just say it here.

Will you marry me?

You... You're pretty straight forward.

Princess, when I saw you at Princess Royal's banquet,

it was love at first sight.

Then you kept giving me signals.

My heart is racing for you day and night.

I can't stop thinking of you.

Are you all right?

Is that so?

You're lucky, Princess.

I'm touched by Young Master Yan's confession.

Young Master Yan is straightforward. You two are alike.

Princess, what do you think?

None of your business. I know what to do.

I didn't share your feelings, so I can't accept them.

And I don't remember all that you've said.

You've probably mistaken it.

How come?

How could Young Master Yan's heartfelt feelings be mistakes?

That's quite hurtful.

What a shame!

Prime Minister's son and Princess would be a perfect match.

True love is rare to come by.

I wish...

someone would love me like this.

If you're envious, why don't you marry him?

I said marriage calls for mutual love.

I have no feelings for you.

Please go back.

I... I love you wholeheartedly.

Princess, you're lying, aren't you?

Don't conceal your feelings.

If you're shy to admit it in public, we can talk alone.

She's made it clear as it is. You should leave.

Count Cheng'an, this is between me and Princess.

Please behave yourself.

Count is right.

Young Master Yan, don't embarrass yourself in public.

Please leave, Young Master Yan.

I apologize, Your Highness.

I'll show myself out.

Princess, have you... come around?

I'm sorry that I was rude just now.

Please forgive me.

If you marry me, I'll protect you with my life.

Young Master Yan, if you're in love with a girl, what will you do?

I'll marry her. I'll forever love her and never betray her.

What if she's free-spirited and independent

who only does things of her own will?

What will you do then?

I'll support her regardless.

What if your mother forbids you?

I...

For example,

what if she doesn't want kids?

I'm fine with it.

What if your mother disagrees?

Then...

Then... I'll discuss it with my wife.

I thought you'd say, "I'll be on her side.

No one can force her to do anything."

But that way, my mother would be upset.

Young Master Yan, to love someone isn't only to marry her.

Why would a girl marry you if you didn't think for her?

So we aren't meant to be.

I hope you'll soon find someone who obeys your mother.

Good day.

Princess, why are you different from most girls?

I'm this type of girl.

- Older Sister. - Don't be upset. Count Cheng'an didn't turn you down.

We can think up a new plan.

Thank you, Older Sister.

Count, why don't you stay for dinner?

Thank you, Miss Shi.

It's getting dark. I need to take Princess Ban back.

Take her back?

Thanks for your hospitality. Goodbye.

You know, you could stay for dinner.

I don't have dinner with anyone.

Crown Prince and Crown Princess are so sweet together.

I wish I could find my other half.

I'm sure you will.

They say Prince Luo likes tender and well-mannered girls.

It's not too late to change yourself.

What did you say?

Stop. Or Prince Luo will never like you.

Shut up!

- You... - What are you doing?

- Stay away from me. - You...

Wait! I'm still here!

- Wait for me! - Stop there!

Ban Heng?

Take me with you!

- See you. - You!

So inside it's just...

Count, I have a question.

If Shi Feixian is as good as they say,

why do you keep pushing her away?

Come to think of it, she's educated, talented and knowledgeable.

That's quite attractive.

Get off now.

Fine.

The carriage is still moving.

Wait! Wait for me.

Stop the carriage.

How could you leave without me, Older Sister?

- Count Cheng'an! - Young Master Ban.

What are you doing here?

I see. I'll leave.

Come back!

Count Cheng'an, did you poke the bear?

While I was filling myself up,

someone's proposal got rejected.

Whose was it?

You each have your own admirer.

That's a tie. No one has lost.

I've turned Yan Zhen down.

There's nothing between us.

Older Sister, don't you know how stubborn he is?

It's too soon to relax. This could be just a start.

What to do?

I have an idea,

but it requires help from someone.

Who is it?

Count Cheng'an.

Me?

What can I do?

Have a fake marriage.

- Have a fake marriage? - Have a fake marriage?

Once you two pretend to marry, others with the right mind won't bother you again.

Do you believe I'll kick you out!

Don't, Older Sister.

Go away.

I'm sorry, Count. He doesn't know what he's saying.

I mean... marriage is just a routine.

Why take it so seriously?

We can't risk a girl's reputation. That's inappropriate.

If things don't work out, you can divorce her.

I'll divorce him first.

Young Master Ban, marriage concerns lifetime happiness.

It must be treated with caution.

Other than getting married, what about a fake engagement?

Okay. I'm out.

Fake engagement?

I'm glad to see Rong Xia and Ban Hua together.

My years of wishes have been fulfilled.

In this case, I'll pick a wedding day for you.

No.

Why did you say no?

No to what exactly?
