Very soon, 24 strangers will descend
upon this grand old hotel

and band together in a bid to win
up to $250,000 in solid silver.

And all they have to do
to claim this obscene fortune

is stay in the game
until the bitter end.

Moments after getting acquainted,

four players will be secretly
selected to be the Traitors.

The other 20 are the Faithful.

And if the names aren't clear enough,

Faithful - goodies,

Traitors - bloodthirsty baddies.

Each night,
the Traitors' sole mission

is to work together
conspiring and scheming

to murder a Faithful.

Now, the Traitors
aren't exactly safe either.

Each evening,

the Faithful can banish a Traitor,

but if they can't see through
the Traitor's lies,

they could end up eliminating
one of their own.

longest held living hostages.

So, I travelled to Somalia
as a photojournalist back in 2008...

..along with a Canadian journalist.

We were ambushed
just outside of Mogadishu

by what I can describe as
a criminal gang.

a total of 460 days...

..before a ransom was paid
by my family -

about US$675,000.

If it wasn't for them,
I wouldn't be here today,

and now my partner and my two boys
is what I live for.

As a hostage, I learned to negotiate.

I learned to persuade my captors.

I was really trying to make myself
a commodity that they wanted to keep.

Having that skill set
and coming into this game,

I consider myself to be

but in a moment,
a number of you will be turned

and become Traitors.

Now, the Traitors will play the game
alongside you.

You won't know who they are
or just how many there are.

They will become your friends...

..your teammates
and your trusted confidantes,

and, all the while,

they will be plotting your demise.

Now, every night as you slumber,

the Traitors will gather to decide
which Faithful they'll murder next,

strategically eliminating
whomever they choose.

But the Traitors alone
will not hold all the power.

Now, each evening,
everyone will gather here

and vote to banish one player
from the game.

Now, banishments are the Faithfuls'
only chance to eradicate a Traitor.

But if the Traitors play
their mind games to perfection,

the majority could unwittingly banish
an innocent Faithful.

Right, let's get down to business,
shall we?

I'm going to ask all of you to put on
the mask you see in front of you.

Masks on.

Now, you won't be able to see
a thing, which is important.

The time has come for the Traitors
to find out who they are.

then they will dig down
to find the buried silver.
