[Episode 5]

Three wipes a day,

Young Master is really paying attention to it.

Uncle Rong.

Young Master.

Is that scholar still standing outside of the Ban Manor?

Young Master, if you don't want him to disturb Baroness Ban,

just ask His Majesty to drive him away.

No hurry.

I'm curious about how she will deal with such trouble.

Scholars are the most troublesome.

That's true.

Did he mean me?

My love for Hua is witnessed by the sun and the moon!

My love for Hua... My love for Hua…

My love for Hua… My love for Hua…

Love… The sun… and the moon...

By the sun and the moon!

The sun and the... Moon!

Wit… Wit… Witnessed!

Marquis!

M-M-Master!

Marquis! By the sun and moon!

Get… Get away!

Marquis! By the sun and moon!

My love for Hua is witnessed

by the sun and the moon!

Baroness is here!

Since I was little, no one has ever really kept me in.

I have to figure out a way.

Ban Heng.

- Young Master. - It's okay. It's okay. Come on.

I'm Shen Yu's friend. What are you eating?

Walnut shortbread. Do you want one?

- Help yourself. Help yourself. - Baroness!

My love for Hua is witnessed by the sun and the moon!

The sun and the moon! Baroness!

My love for Hua is witnessed by the sun and the moon! Baroness!

It's witnessed!

The rain is so heavy. He's definitely not out there.

Of course, unless he's a moron.

It's not guaranteed though. Let's go take a look?

Such a beautiful face!

How dare you!

And he's in black.

Invite him in.

Marquis. Madam.

I sincerely want to marry Baroness.

And I hope we can have your blessing.

My sister is ignorant, indulgent, and violent…

No, forget that.

Her temper is not great anyway,

and I think she's prone to family violence.

Don't say I didn't warn you when she beats you up.

How about this?

You can tell me your type, and I'll introduce some to you.

Thank you for your good intentions.

But since I love Baroness, I love her everything.

As her little brother, how could you speak ill of her?

Marquis. Madam.

Please give me a chance.

My love for Hua is witnessed by the…

Stop it, please.

If you say that again,

my hands... might lose control.

Honey, that's a rare treasure.

Mother is even more hotheaded than me.

Mr. Shen, get up, please.

Madam.

Your sincerity is truly witnessed.

But His Majesty likes Hua a lot.

He won't marry her to a common person.

That's right! His Majesty won't allow it. Just forget it.

I am a civilian, not good enough for Baroness.

I'd better continue guarding the gates.

But you are still young and promising.

If you make the top three in the imperial examination,

there might still be some hope in it.

Mother, we should talk to Older Sister about this first.

Madam, you mean it?

I'll give you this jade pendant as a token.

If you really make it in the top three one day,

the two of us will ask His Majesty to marry Hua to you.

Thank you, Madam.

I won't disappoint you.

I'll make the top three and give Hua a magnificent wedding.

Before that, you should study hard.

Stop coming here to make trouble.

I'll do as you say.

Be careful with it.

You may leave.

Goodbye.

Sorry to disturb you.

Ho… Honey, but…

Young Master!

Young Master, great news!

How many times have I told you to be calm and composed?

What's the exciting good news?

The Bans have consented to Shen Yu's proposal.

Okay.

Mother, what if Shen Yu really makes the top three?

That would mean we are blessed.

It might be able to help us through disasters.

You are killing two birds with one stone.

I don't agree with it.

First, I don't like Shen Yu at all.

Second, if our property really gets confiscated, how can I get away alone?

Precious daughter, what you said makes sense.

How about this, Honey, I'll go ask him to give the jade pendant back.

Hua, listen to me this time.

Save your breath.

Running for my life without my family is something I'll never do.

I can't do it!

Hua Hua...

Honey, listen, there's no hurry.

No hurry at all.

The imperial examination is still a long time away, right?

We don't have to fight for such a trivial thing, right?

Hua, go, go have some tea outside. Come on!

Honey, calm down, please.

That's weird.

It hasn't been long since he came, how come the whole of Daye knows it?

Ban Heng!

- I… - Is it you? Don't run!

- Stop! - Older Sister! Older SIster! No!

My chicken!

Say it!

Older Sister, I sent Zhou Changxiao and the others to propagate

about Shen Yu's proposal to you for your own sake!

For my sake?

Give me a good reason now and I might reward you a chicken butt.

Think about it.

After Count Cheng'an knows about it, he'll get nervous.

And once he's nervous, he'll come out and confess to you.

When did you become his little brother?

He's so hypocritical that he pretended sickness to avoid seeing me. What kind of person is he?

It's not like that, Older Sister.

I'm no one else's little brother except yours.

In my opinion, that day you went skating,

Count Cheng'an had fallen for you.

It's just that he thinks he's not good enough for you,

that's why he pretended sickness.

Is that so?

It must be like that.

Count Cheng'an must be so anxious that he can't sleep and eat well now.

He'll act soon.

Nonsense! You must have read too many novels!

No, Older Sister.

This is the most popular novel in the capital, [Naughty Princess and Her Cute Husband]

[Naughty Princess and Her Cute Husband] "Naughty Princess and Her Cute Husband."

This is pretty bold.

I'll take it.

I'll go have a thorough study.

Older Sister, my chicken!

Young Master.

it looks like the Ban family has given Shen Yu a gentle refusal.

What gentle refusal?

So many scholars are going to participate in the imperial examination.

How could he make the top three easily?

I think that's a firm no.

That depends on fate.

Mr. Shen, please make the top three. Don't let the good fate down.

He needs to succeed first.

Mr. Shen,

this is truly good stuff!

Where did you get it?

You have sharp eyes.

Marquis Jingting gave it to me as a token.

He has promised to marry his daughter to me.

Mr. Shen, as a scholar, you shouldn't drink so much.

What are you saying? Not at all.

Don't worry! After marrying Baroness, I'll find you

a good girl from a noble family.

I should thank you in advance then.

However, it must be valuable,

and you are showing it to everyone. Aren't you afraid of thieves?

I know.

But if I hid it, no one would know I'm marrying her.

You can wear it on your neck, it'd be showier.

On my neck?

You are right!

Like this. Is it cool?

Yes. Cool. Perfect.

Oh, Old Zhang,

you are my man from now on.

Okay.

Baroness, please give me another chance.

Please leave, Sir.

Baroness Ban doesn't exist anymore.

My Buddhist name is Miaokong.

No way!

Now that you are a nun,

I'll become a monk!

Let's serve Buddha together!

Amitabha.

Be a nun?

What are you thinking?

I can't live without eating meat!

Pass.

Darling, what's wrong with you?

Please keep away. I'm infected with the plague.

I'm afraid I can only pay you back in my next life.

Darling, you…

Darling!

Let me die together with you!

No, no.

No way!

Mr. Shen loves you so deeply.

Why don't you just say yes to him?

No way. What about Count Cheng'an?

What does it have to do with that shabby scholar?

But… Baroness, why don't you admit it?

Days ago, who invited Count Cheng'an to go skating together?

That's just a task, I was faking it.

If you were really acting in those emotional moments,

you'd make a good actress.

Are you looking for a spanking?

This thing with Shen Yu can't be dragged on like this.

Maybe I should go talk to him and make everything clear.

I can't let him block my other way.

Her other way is…

Of course, the way to Count Cheng'an.

But that way is never blocked.

Forget it.

Baroness?

Baroness, I'm from a poor family.

This is the best thing I can give you as a token.

This was drawn by me.

This garden in it represents my dream.

Once I make the top three, I'll purchase a house with such a garden

to be our home.

Believe me, I'll never let you suffer.

Mr. Shen...

I'm here today to take back my parents' words.

I won't marry you.

To be honest, I don't want to be married now.

Then may I ask why you don't want to be married?

My family went through something earlier, which taught me to cherish them.

So for now, I just want to be with my family.

Your concern is no problem at all.

I came to the capital all alone with no relative here.

If you don't mind, I can marry into your family

and live with you in the Ban Manor.

You can stay with your family.

I was born willful and am not ready to get married.

You can be willful as long as you want. I won't be against it.

The wedding date will be up to you.

- I'll never be married. - Then neither will I.

I'll stay with you forever.

You…

Why do you have to be like this?

Because you are worth it.

Because you are a person who's worth waiting for.

That's right though.

I remember the things you said that day in the restaurant.

"It's okay to be looked down upon, but you can't look down upon yourself."

Why did I say that nonsense?

What should I do?

Baroness.

This is hard.

[Shi's Manor]

Feixian.

Grandpa, please have some tea.

Okay.

Master, Mr. Shen is here.

Yes.

Greetings, Prime Minister Shi.

[Minister Shi, Prime Minister] Mr. Shen, how is the thing going?

Sir, it's all going as planned.

The Ban Family does not suspect anything.

I've been to the Ban Manor and searched several times,

but I haven't found the tiger tally yet.

The only place I didn't search is Ban Hua's room.

Princess Royal loves Ban Hua very much.

Maybe it's really in her room.

But Ban Hua's room is in the backyard.

It's really difficult for me to get in there.

It's all right, don't rush it.

After you make the top three

and marry Ban Hua, you'll be free to be in there naturally.

If you can find the tiger tally then, it would be of great merit.

I'll ask His Majesty

to give you a major promotion.

Thank you, Prime Minister, for giving me such a valuable chance.

Please be assured that I'll spare no effort

to do whatever you need me to do.

Mr. Shen is a talented fine young man.

You'll make the top three for sure.

I've talked to those who can help.

The first place is right in front of you.

Thank you, Sir.

Get up, please.

I promise I'll find the tiger tally for sure.

Good.

The imperial examination begins!

Your Majesty, this is the list of the top three.

Please have a look.

[Shen Yu, Zhang Qin, Li Jinzhong]

Your Majesty, there's a rumor in the capital saying that

once Shen Yu makes the top three, he'll marry Baroness Ban.

Baroness Ban marrying a top three scholar must be a perfect match

[Shen Yu, Zhang Qin, Li Jinzhong]

Where's Shen Yu?

Greetings, Your Majesty.

You may rise.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Walk a few steps for me.

What do you think of this Shen Yu in comparison with Xie Qilin?

Well…

What do you think, Your Majesty?

You are really useless.

All right. You can stop.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

[Shen Yu, Zhang Qin, Li Jinzhong]

Shen Yu made it!

He made it?

Yes, let's tell Young Master and figure out a plan.

What plan?

I'll go prepare a gift to congratulate Baroness Ban.

Why are you so excited about it?

Shen Yu has taken a big hit for our Young Master.

I hear you.

Young Master, Mr. Du kept me from going in.

Young Master Shen!

Young Master Shen!

Thank you, guys!

Thank you for waiting.

Congratulations, Young Master Shen!

Sir! Thank you for coming!

Congratulations!

Thank you.

- Let's congratulate Young Master Shen... - Mr. Shen is really amazing.

- He really made it? - Of course!

On making third place!

Thank you for your help.

I'll let you know my gratitude.

Young Master Shen, you are too kind.

I wouldn't dare neglect Baroness Ban's orders.

Ladies and gentlemen, I almost forgot.

There's another great news for Young Master Shen.

What great news?

Not only did he make third place,

he's also engaged to Baroness Ban.

- That's not worth mentioning. - That's great.

Congratulations, Young Master Shen. I once misunderstood it.

I thought the one Baroness Ban liked was Count Cheng'an.

What are you saying?

This is a big day for Young Master Shen.

Watch what you are saying.

It's okay. It's okay.

All bills in this restaurant are on me today.

Please come in and enjoy a nice meal.

- Right, come in, please. - Enjoy yourselves.

Nice! Bravo!

That's great!

Young Master Shen, should I charge the money to

Baroness Ban's account or yours?

Do you even have to ask that question?

Hers is mine. And mine is hers.

Does that make any difference?

- Okay. I'll go prepare everything. - Go ahead! Go.

Young Master, Third Scholar Shen Yu is here.

He sure knows who he should meet first.

Young Master Shen, have some tea, please.

Thank you, Your Grace.

Congratulations, Young Master Shen.

How should I help you today?

I hear that Your Grace is the best gentleman in the world,

a role model for all scholars,

and His Majesty's great helping hand.

I luckily made third place in the imperial examination.

So I've come to learn how to be an official,

and I also hope that in the future,

Your Grace can help me in the court.

Looks like he's not a nerd.

He's pretty smart for coming to the right guy.

You flatter me, Young Master Shen.

There's no secret in being an official.

We just need to be loyal and love the people.

That's all.

As for the best gentleman stuff, that's just undeserved praise.

You are so modest, Your Grace.

You deserve your reputation.

And...

I need to thank you for another thing.

I don't think we ever met each other before.

What are you thanking me for?

I hear that you helped Marquis Jingting once.

After marrying Baroness Ban, I'll repay you for your kindness.

That's not worth mentioning.

Moreover, it's between me and Marquis Jingting,

you don't need to thank me.

From now on, her problem is also my problem.

Baroness was trying to reject my proposal at first,

but after hearing my sincere confession, she was deeply moved

and said yes to me.

This jade pendant is the token the Ban family gave me.

Congratulations on winning the heart of a fine lady then.

When is the big day?

Well... I just finished my examination,

so we haven't talked about that yet.

Just tell me if you need anything.

Thank you in advance then.

Sorry for the trouble. It's time to go now.

Okay. Take care, Young Master Shen.

I won't walk you out.

I'll come back to visit another time.

Young Master, Shen Yu came right after he made the top three.

He must be here to show off.

He's so arrogant

and scheming, not a decent person.

Look into this Shen Yu thoroughly.

Consider it done.

I'll look into every detail about him.

He can never diminish you.

Hua Hua, it's dinner time. Eat first.

Right. Eating nothing can't solve the problem.

Eat, eat, eat. You know nothing but eating and having fun.

That's what our family is good at.

Heng'er is right.

Hua Hua, let me ask you.

You don't like that Shen Yu even a little bit, do you?

No.

Why did you take his painting as a token then?

That was... I couldn't reject it.

So I could just take it for that moment.

There is nothing wrong with Shen Yu.

He's just too compliant. That's boring.

That's all because of Count Cheng'an.

Wasn't she talking about Shen Yu?

What does it have to do with Count Cheng'an?

Moreover, I think Shen Yu is a little weird.

How?

Young Master Shen?

- I... - What are you doing here?

Nature's call.

Toilet is on the other side.

The Ban Mannor is too big

that I got lost.

Where is the toilet? Where is it?

Toilet! Toilet!

[Vigilant and Exceed]

Young Master Shen. Why are you leaning on the door?

Anyway, those two cases

are not that weird, right?

That doesn't mean he has some intentions.

That's right! What intentions could he have?

After marrying Hua,

all that we have will be his.

What do you mean all that we have?

I own at least half of it, don't I?

On this, you know what is yours.

Stop talking, please.

Older Sister, don't say I don't care about you.

I've figured out a way for you to test that Shen Yu.

I promise this will be solved in three days.

You? Go play.

Okay, after this meal.

[Fortunetelling]

[Fortunetelling] Wait a minute, Sir.

[Fortunetelling]

Fortunetelling is for those who are in a bit of bad luck.

I don't need it.

Believe it or not, fate brought you to me today.

For the sake of fate, I have some advice to give you.

It's for free.

You have a mole on your foot and a birthmark on your chest.

[Fortunetelling]

[Fortunetelling] You are having a joyous occasion?

[Fortunetelling]

[Fortunetelling] That's true.

Too bad, blessings never come in pairs.

What do you mean, Master?

You are lucky in your career, but not in your marriage.

If you force it, it'll cost you your life.

[Fortunetelling Soothsaying]

Master, can you explain it to me?

Heaven's secret must not be revealed.

Master!

Fate brought me to you, Master!

Please reveal it a little bit.

Come on.

[Fortunetelling] How did you know about the mole and the birthmark?

Young Master Ban bought the information from Scholar Zhang,

the one who shared a room with Shen Yu at the Inn.

Nice whisker.

You can have one if you like it.

- Come on. - Let's go.

You are here, Sir. Please, come in.

[Hongfu Restaurant]

[Hongfu Restaurant] It's Young Master Shen, the Third Scholar!

It's my honor to see you. Come in, please.

What did you call me?

Young Master Shen, the Third Scholar!

Come in! Go!

Waiter! Lead the way for Young Master Shen!

Coming!

Young Master Shen, please. This way.

Young Master Shen, come here, please.

This is a nice spot.

Young Master Shen.

Young Master Shen.

Dishes are all served.

Please sit.

I should say thank you then.

It's my honor to drink with Young Master Shen.

Young Master Shen, it's really you!

Young Master Shen, you are really courageous.

You even dared to ask Baroness Ban to marry you. [Zhou Changxiao, Playboy in Daye]

[Zhou Changxiao, Playboy in Daye] Come on, let's drink to that.

I'm sincere to Baroness. It shouldn't be called courageous.

Young Master Shen is not a local, so you don't know.

Before you, Baroness Ban has been engaged to two men.

One was drowned, the other became blind.

In the whole capital, you are the only one who dares to propose to her.

Young Master Zhou, Young Master Shen just became the Third Scholar, why are you bringing that kind of unpleasant thing up?

It's my fault, my fault. This is my apology.

Here, please, Young Master Shen.

Eat more while you still can.

Why are you speaking ill of Baroness and trying to ruin her reputation?

Her reputation? That's already hit rock bottom.

That's right. It's hard to ruin something that's at rock bottom.

Young Master Shen, in my opinion, you should call off the engagement.

I, Shen Yu, am a decent man!

I'm not a faithless person like you.

- Young Master Shen! - Young Master Shen!

- Young Master Shen! - Young Master Shen!

Come on! Come on!

Quickly!

This is yours, Mister. Well...

Young Master Zhou, you are also doing this kind of job?

Don't mention it. I just lost a big amount in a cockfight. Just give me the money.

Tell me! What other tricks do you have?

Baroness, Count Cheng'an is here.

What did I say? Count Cheng'an has become nervous.

- I'll go open the door. - Wait a minute.

He pretended sickness to avoid seeing me. Why should I see him? Don't open the door for him.

Then I'll go lock the door.

Wait!

So you do want to see him?

No, I don't.

So you do want to see him but you also don't?

Please.

My older sister has been busy preparing for her wedding.

If you have feelings for her, just win her over and don't miss the chance.

I bet you'll win.

Baroness, what happened earlier was my fault.

Please forgive me.

I have come today to say something to you.

After a thorough investigation, I'm sure Shen Yu is not decent and you can't marry him.

I agree with that.

Why?

My older sister doesn't want to marry him at all. Why should she pretend it?

Your Grace, you didn't know Shen Yu at all. How do you know he's not a decent man?

Please show me your evidence,

or I'll have to suspect that you are trying to ruin my engagement.

Young Master, you were actually right! Shen Yu is really working for Prime Minister Shi.

Really?

Shen Yu once entered Shi's Manor at midnight.

But before he came into the capital, he had no contact with the Shi family.

Their first contact was after Baroness Ban helped him at the Inn.

Such a coincidence. There must be some secret behind it.

We don't know what they are plotting.

Baroness, Shen Yu is not decent. Please think twice.

Marrying him or not is my business. It's none of your concern.

Baroness...

Anyway, even if you are right, even if he's not sincere,

even if I'm fooled and marry him, what does it have to do with you?

I...

What is he thinking? Just tell her you love her and save us all the trouble.

Young Master, don't say that.

If Count can't bring out evidence, maybe you should leave.

You can't even answer that?

Tell her you love her, you don't want her to be fooled, and you don't want to miss true love!

Young Master, why are you even more anxious than those two?

[Prestigious Cloud House]

Young Master, if we can't stop them, maybe we should just congratulate them.

No way!

I believe that if Shen Yu and Baroness Ban really get married,

it'll be harder for us to approach Princess Royal.

Even if they get married, we can figure out another way.

Young Master, please think about it.

No need. She can't marry him.

She is our own chance to approach the Ban family.

Du Jiu, come with me to the Qionglin Banquet tomorrow.

Greetings, Your Majesty! Long live the emperor!

You may all rise.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

The Top Scholar, Zhang Qin.

Here, Your Majesty.

You have made the top three and are conferred as Director of the Ministry of Personnel.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

The Second Scholar, Li Jinzhong.

Your Majesty.

You have made the top three and are conferred as Director of the Ministry of Revenue.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

The Third Scholar, Shen Yu.

Your Majesty.

You have made the top three

and are conferred as Deputy Director of the Ministry of Personnel.

It's much lower than those two.

He must have offended His Majesty. [Yan Xiang, Left Prime Minister]

That's because he's going to marry the Ban's daughter.

What are you talking about?

Shen Yu, what are you waiting for?

Thank... Thank you, Your Majesty.

You should try your best to serve our Daye.

Ask Count Cheng'an if you have any confusion.

I have prepared you a banquet. Please enjoy yourselves.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Brother Rong, it's been so long.

Nice to see you, Count Cheng'an.

Young ladies, you can pick any young man you favor.

Miss, here.

Young Master Shen? You have an engagement with Baroness Ban.

I can't take your fan.

This fan represents freemasonry.

At a banquet like this one, no one should be neglected.

Please take it.

Thank you.

Young Master Shen, this is for you.

Please take it.

Only if love could be so simple.

Thank you.

Young Master, Shen Yu does have a problem. He has a fiancée in his hometown.

Even his traveling expenses to the capital were from his fiancée, Miss Wang.

Wang Qu, bring that Miss Wang to the capital now.

Yes!

Yin Bangbang! This is how you do your job?

Don't we have gates out there? You are allowing everybody in?

I'm sorry, but it's an emergency.

What? What kind of emergency?

Come here.

I have found the evidence.

This woman is Shen Yu's fiancée in his hometown, Miss Wang.

Shen Yu! How dare you!
