and stole hearts
all around the globe.

You know the one
I'm talking about.

We may not be young.
We may not be pretty.

But for one night only,
we're going for The Full Monty.

The Oscar-winning
comedy featuring

unemployed steelworkers
forming a male striptease act --

Yeah, you heard me right --

This lot go all the way.

The Full Monty?

-- pulled in a whopping
$250 million.

It's not bad,
this stripping, is it?

The movie's message
of vulnerability helped inspire

television specials
raising awareness for cancer --

to push past their embarrassment

and get checked
for prostate cancer.

Not only was it a massive hit,

but it potentially save hundreds
of lives in the process.

So I thought
why not do the same?

I just wrapped filming
a movie in South Africa,

and now it's time
to focus on this performance

that's near and dear
to my heart.

I lost a very dear friend
a few weeks ago to cancer,

and I lost my biological father
and three of his siblings

to cancer, all within a year
and a half of one another.

So I wanted to help
bring awareness to men,

because we don't go
to the doctor.

have nine days to pull this off.

Six days to pull this off
and I'm a little nervous,

because...

I haven't filled
all the spots yet.

these people are super brave

I didn't even recognize you.

When I heard about
The Real Full Monty

to raise awareness
for early cancer detection,

my heart knew
that I had to do it.

I told my son about it,
who's 11.

He said, "What?!
You're gonna get naked?

Dude, that's weird."

And I was like, "Well, yeah."
And I explained it all.

He's like, "Alright.
I just don't want to watch it."

[ Laughs ] I said okay.

And Bruno!

James, my darling.

Surprise after surprise.

I'm a little worried
that Bruno's gonna be

uncomfortable dancing scantily
clad in front of people.

I know.
He never does this.

Man, this is a good group.
All here for the right reasons,

all doing something that
we really feel is important

and fun and can make a positive
impact in people's lives.

And so I'm psyched
to be part of it.

This is gonna be where
we're gonna be for the next,

you know, four days.

And we are gonna be learning,
you know, a routine...

Yeah...
...that is going to involve

taking off bits of our clothes
for a really great cause.

And by the end,
just like the film,

we are gonna go Full Monty,

turn around and show everyone
how amazing we are.
Oh, make sure the heat is on,

or we're going to shrink.

It's gonna be
a very warm room.

Anderson: You know, anytime you
start something like this,

there's a little bit
of nerves involved.

There's so many
different personalities.

You don't know
how you're all going to mix.

But there's still some people
to add to the mix,

so I'm excited to have
everybody finally come together

and be a part of this.

I know the camaraderie you guys

are gonna experience
together going through this,

when you're spending this amount
of time doing something

that's a little scary.

And we're all coming
from the same base idea.

You know, while
I haven't been affected directly

by testicular cancer
and prostate cancer,

I did lose my mom last year
to stomach cancer.

-Oh, wow.
-I'm sorry.

And so -- thank you.
Sorry to hear that.

Yeah. It's like a random,
terrible club

you don't want to be
a part of, right?

Unfortunately,
I think we all have some reason.

And, I mean,
for me particularly,

I had to do it because of Len.

You know, my co-judge
for many, many years,

and we lost him last year.

And this I dedicate --
dedicated to him.

Len and I worked together
for almost 20 years.

It's like the two musketeers.

Len had an instinct
to work the moment,

and I knew that whatever I did,
Len would have my back.

And he knew the same.

He did have
a prostate operation in 2009,

and he kept going on to me like,

"Have you checked your pipes,
man?"

Unfortunately,
we lost him last year.

Then it was another story.
Bone cancer, which is tragic.

Len never made it public,
because when you do

"Dancing With the Stars,"
it's inspiring,

it's fun, it's joyous,

and he didn't want
to be identified by the disease.

And when you lose somebody

that's been so close for
such a long time, I was a mess.

As prepared
as you think you are,

those things really, you know,
destroy you,

because I always thought
Len is gonna beat it.

It happened before.
He's gonna beat this.

Unfortunately...

he passed away.

And then because of him,
actually, I went and had

the thing, which actually
is no big deal.

The embarrassment
is not worth your life.

Right.

It's very important for
everyone to go and get screened.

You know, it's not a big deal.

Not a big deal.

Check your pipes for your life.

And we're gonna have
a good time, as well.

You know,
we're just going to enjoy it.

You know, you have to enjoy.

It's like an adventure,
you know?

We're just gonna have fun.
Yeah.

Van Der Beek:
We're talking about cancer

and how it has affected us.

Everybody has their
own relationship to it.

Everybody has their
own stories around it.

I'm hoping
to eventually share my story.

It's a big bomb to drop
in the middle of a room.

And I'm not one
who likes to drop bombs. So...

of my friends to come in

and basically show you guys
a version of the routine.

The most vulnerable you start to
be is when the pants come off.

when you guys

I guess what I'd call clench.

accentuates stuff
you don't necessarily want to.

I realize at some point,

So I'm uncomfortable.

of my buddies signed up.

peek at Mandy's grand plan,

we got to learn
these moves pronto

if we're gonna make
this miracle happen.

So what I love to do

is I'm gonna walk
four steps into it.

I was literally

You got to be really confident
in who you are,

to just risk it all.

And that's what we're doing.

But we're doing it
for a great cause.

All of us have dealt with trauma
because of cancer.

My mother's father passed away
at a very young age.

I know that it's very
much affected my mom's life.

And then we can put smiles
on people's faces

and let them know
that we can all battle

and get through this together.

Day one is always a bit of a
mishmash of energy and craziness

'cause everyone's nervous.

because these guys don't

necessarily know how to dance.

The first thing I need to do
is teach them counts.

That is gonna help them
keep the beat of the music,

and it's gonna help them
with breaking down

the routine into smaller,
more manageable parts.

Me being a dancer,
if you leave me on my own,

in front of everybody?

what moves I'm working with.

And then from there,
I can build their confidence.

I know that they can do it,
but we got some work to do.

Dance steps are coming together.

But there is a problem.

We still need six people,
and only four showed up.

So I reached out to somebody

I know will have no problem
getting naked onstage with me.

yesterday.

Talking about cancer
and my mom and my --

It's a lot.

You know, when my mom
got cancer, nobody knew.

Didn't tell anybody
she was feeling weird.

But she's a trooper.
She was --

It got so tough that
we took her to the hospital,

and then that's when they were
like, "Okay. She's got cancer.

She doesn't have much --"
So then boom, she was gone.

I dance because of her.
She was a dancer.

And then last night,

I have
this dream about my mother.

All this stuff is bringing up
the fact that,

like, I didn't really --

Haven't really dealt with
the fact

that she just kind of jetted.

She didn't tell anybody.

And so that's because of this.

Wow. Of course it is.
Isn't that weird?

Isn't that crazy?
Brings you back.

I had no idea that I was
still working through it.

I had many friends
that passed away.

And sometimes you dream vivid

I know we still have

Doing this performance
does make you vulnerable

and highlights
personal insecurities,

so I want to make sure

I think it's cool that

...sharing your stories

and bringing awareness to
prostate and testicular cancer.

You know, I think it's great
that, you know,

we could all come together,

because cancer
affects all of us.

I lost my biological father,
Robert.

Passed away from cancer.
It happened rapidly for him.

I got a call to go see him,

and I went and saw him
on a Thursday, and he was fine.

We had a great conversation.
And I was like,

"You know, Saturday, I'm gonna
come by with, you know,

the wife and the kids
to see you."

And when we got there
on Saturday,

he was on an oxygen machine.

Looked like he had aged
25 years in one day.

I told him I loved him
at the end of the night

and I'd bring the kids
by tomorrow.

Hopefully he'd be doing better.
And he passed away that night.

Posey: I really hadn't heard
Anthony's story yet.

I was just, like,
really starting to understand

why everyone was here
and doing this,

and it felt more real and deep

'cause we've been laughing
and joking around.

And it was really nice
to see that side of him.

Most men, myself included,

we don't go to the doctor
to get checked out

unless we have an appendage
hanging off

or something like that,
you know?

And it's like by that time,
it's too late.

My mom didn't like going
to get checked out.

She never
went to the doctor.

If she had gone
just for her normal checkups,

which she didn't, then she
might still be around, you know?

But at that point,
it had started to spread.

Yeah.
This year, it'll be 10 years.

Okay.
And ever since then,

I've been like a pretty big
advocate, learning myself

on how to get checked out,
screened early.

It's really
sort of serendipitous

that we're doing this.

Jones: Just hearing
everybody's story,

truly appreciative
for this opportunity.

You know, for me,
it was my high-school coach

who was diagnosed
with pancreatic cancer.

And similar situation.

Felt pain. Didn't go
and get it checked out.

He was pretty healthy, though.
He got sick, died.

If my coach would have went
a little earlier,

they probably could
have detected it earlier.

He'd probably still be living.

So what better way to bring
awareness and to challenge

men and women to get checked?

You stare at death
in the face

because of what happened
with Len.

You know, you think it will
never happen, and it does.

I think it's beautiful for men
especially

to be talking like this.

And I appreciate you
for really getting into the fear

and not being afraid
to have that conversation.

Yeah.

I haven't talked to you guys

about my connection
and why I'm here.

I'll be honest.

Six months ago, I found out that
I was diagnosed with cancer.

I went in for a colonoscopy.

You know, I was coming out
of anesthesia,

and the doctor said
those three words

that you don't want to hear,
which is, "It is cancer."

And I've been
going through it.

Did you go in because
there was something wrong?

Yeah. I went in
'cause I felt something.

When was the last time
you had been to the doctor

before you went in
because you felt something?

It had been a minute,

'cause, you know, life, busy.
Yeah.

[ Soft music plays ]

I don't want anybody
to have to go through

what I had to go through.

For the last six months,
I've been in treatment.

I've done a whole bunch
of therapies,

holistic, integrative,
and otherwise.

And it's been a journey, man.
[ Laughs ]

I say that with confidence now,

but there were definitely
some dark days,

and there were definitely
some moments

when I felt like
I was walking through the valley

of the shadow of death.

When you're staring at
a positive diagnosis,

then it's like, "Okay.

How deep within yourself
are you willing to look?"

How you dealt with that,
being a husband, a father --

how was that?

I mean, I think the first thing
was denial.

It just didn't seem real.

It's demanded that I be
even more resolute in who I am,

in my certainty.

The hardest thing
about having a cancer diagnosis

is what do you tell your kids?

I gave him a makeover.

[ Both laughing ]

Van Der Beek:
I got six little hearts

that I am looking out for.

And, you know, as a father,

you want to save your kids
as much pain as possible.

But those were not
easy conversations to have.

I mean, I didn't know
how to do it any other way

than to just be
completely honest.

And I'm really grateful this
didn't happen four months ago,

'cause if I had taken
my shirt off four months ago,

y'all would have been scared.

The timing of this
has been perfect,

because I'm now
in a recovery phase.

You know, fortunately,

I did catch it early enough
to do something about it.

It's so fresh
and so new for you.

How long did you sit
in that fear?

The fear comes in waves.

There is nothing wrong
with crying.

There is nothing wrong
of showing your emotions,

especially in
these circumstances,

because it allows you to get to
the stage of acceptance.

Oh, God, I'm so emotional.
I can't bear it.

Yeah, I appreciate that, Bruno.
Come here, brother.

Come on.

Tonioli: For me, it's a tribute,

not just to Len, but everyone
that has been affected by it.

I love it.

It is so fresh for me
what I've been through.

But why?

I mean, I admire you,

because I am just going mental,

and your attitude
is teaching me a lesson.

Tonioli: The way he approaches
it is a lesson to us all.

For anyone for whom
fear is a barrier,

I can tell you that
after having gone through it,

it's been a beautiful thing
in my life.

And I'm a firm believer

that you don't have
to go through the kind of hell

that I've been through
in order to have the benefits.

If the thought of getting tested
brings up fear,

brings up panic,
brings up despair,

I would say listen to that.

If your barrier
is embarrassment,

we're stripping naked.

If your barrier is fear
of a bad diagnosis,

listen to that
and see what kind of changes

just asking the question,
do I have cancer?

See what that brings up
and see what kind of changes

you can make in your life.
And I'm telling you,

but if you make the changes,

I feel like you're not gonna
have to go through the thing.

If we can get up onstage

and do a striptease
in front of hundreds of people,

then other guys can go
get screened for cancer.

That's the whole point of it.

I can't think
of five finer gentlemen...

night solidifying our bond,
