Marie-Victorin was a visionary
and environmental pioneer

who advocated conserving nature and its resources.

His vision of the world
is more relevant than ever.

Marcelle Gauvreau (1907-1968) never married,
preferring the company of flowers and children.

She compiled the glossary and index

to Laurentian Flora
and a bibliography of Marie-Victorin's writings.

Her thesis on seaweed was republished in 1956
given its scientific value.

Despite her degrees,
she earned a secretary's salary all her life.

With Marie-Victorin she cofounded
a school named École de l'Éveil

to introduce children to natural history
whose motto was

"I want to know why these things are beautiful."

The Laurentian Flora still exists,
