My name is Danny McNamara.

I used to work for the FBI.

And I'm Lexi Vaziri.

I used to be a thief.

Excuse me, a master thief.

We're back on the hunt after the Vatican was attacked

by a mysterious group led by someone

who calls himself the Great Khan.

He's looking for an ancient Mongolian artifact

called the Spirit Banner.

Also known as the Soul of Genghis Khan.

And they're leaving a path of destruction

in their wake to get their hands on it.

So it looks like it's up to us to stop them

by finding the Banner.

Before they do.

Previously on Blood & Treasure...

Kid.

That's my watch.

That was my squadron in Vietnam.

We worked out of a secret air base called Shangri-La.

You had the Banner?

A couple of CIA spooks made

one pickup, and that was it.

And then they had us fly them back

to a little village called Sana.

That's Father Alonso.

Technically, Vatican Intelligence doesn't exist,

but it totally does and he's one of them.

Uh, we came across documents

with the Vatican seal and the initials A.G.

We think it's connected to the Khan.

Arcanum Gladio.

My old mentor was involved in Arcanum Gladio.

You could find out what he knows.

You two just picked a fight with the most

powerful drug cartel in the Triangle.

They must have hit the engine before takeoff!

_

I want them found. Now.

I think we have a problem.

_

Lexi.

Stay with me. Lex... Dad!

I'm coming. We got to get off this thing now.

Let's drag her out.

Come on.

Watch this.

Here's good. Yeah.

She's going into shock.

There's a first aid kit on the helo.

Danny, don't you dare go back in there!

It's gonna blow!

Hopefully morphine doesn't go bad.

I can stop the bleeding,

but if we don't get her to a hospital quickly,

this could go south really fast.

The river.

62 knots, 48 breaths.

- Dad, what are you doing? - Hold on, hold on.

Head left. 17 degrees.

Hey, look at me.

There you go.

17 degrees, 32 breaths.

Mountaintop, lone tree.

Sana.

Oh, crap.

Double crap. The smoke's giving us away.

Lex, look at me.

What'd you see?

The Khan's bandits

are coming from one direction,

Rasa's soldiers are coming from the other.

Looks like we're gonna bring peace to the Golden Triangle.

All the bad guys in this area

are working together to try to kill us.

_

_

I still can't get a hold of Danny.

Kind of wish he'd already found the Spirit Banner

so we wouldn't have to do this.

Are you losing your nerve?

No.

I'm not thrilled about hiding my priestliness.

I also wish we'd come up with a better cover story for me.

Like, pitcher for the Red Sox.

Chuck, first thing they taught us in the CIA

is to choose a cover story that's close to the truth.

You're right.

Relief pitcher. Nothing too fancy.

2.0 ERA.

- 2.5? - Chuck.

- 3.0. - We just stick to the plan.

All right. Let's do this.

Kate Reece...

... will you marry me?

What? You're not gonna kneel?

You know, I'm usually on the giving end of marriage,

not the receiving end.

Wait, what if we go off-script?

Just don't offer information he's not asking for.

Don't over explain.

For the most part, just be yourself.

Right. An almost-married man. Oof.

Chuck, he's not asking us

to consummate the marriage on his desk.

Now, why would you put that image in my head?

I'm just saying, pretend.

Great.

Okay.

On three.

One, two, three, lift.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Shangri-La is this way.

So is the army of bandit soldiers

who's trying to kill us.

If you want to get Lexi help, Sana's gonna be our best bet.

Hey. There's medicine in Shangri-La.

- Let's go. - Danny,

you said that Sana's got a missionary hospital.

I can get us there a lot faster.

Look, you-you can't just get around these bandits.

Not with this dead weight we're carrying.

Guys, I'm very much alive, thank you.

You know, Dad,

I've done perfectly well the last few decades

without your fatherly advice.

Danny, you're a grown man.

You are, like, a hundred times smarter than me.

But if I have learned anything from my time here,

it's that they know the jungle better than us, always.

Now, you can ignore me everywhere else,

but right here, right now,

you listen to me.

Fine.

Fine, we'll go to Sana.

Watch your step.

This is the most bombed country in the world.

It's not the kind of treasure you want to find.

Hey, you're gonna be okay.

You...

_

This is all your fault.

I left a trail of blood down to the stream

that should send them in the opposite direction.

Let's hope they don't figure it out before we get to Sana.

- How's she doing? - Well, her fever's setting in.

She's still conscious enough

to blame me for everything that's happening.

It's like you guys are already married.

You okay?

We should keep moving.

Move... Moving?

Why? Where are we go... Where are we moving?

We're gonna get you some help.

You failed in Kazakhstan?

Well, the Banner wasn't there, was it?

And your minions blew up the clinic

before it could yield any valuable intel,

killing themselves in the bargain.

I mean, unlike your mouth-breathing underlings...

Don't take this the wrong way...

I can read the situation on the ground, I can adapt.

I can improvise.

I could be an asset to your organization.

Not if you keep me in the dark.

Look,

you have a Ferrari under the tarp in the paddock.

Let it loose on the track where it belongs.

Or put me out of my misery.

As you wish.

The CIA has been gathering information about our operation.

I need to know what they know.

There's only been one person that's been able to break

through the mainframe, accessing their servers.

Martina Kaczmarek.

Yes, I know her.

So gifted, as I recall,

the CIA chose not to arrest her

but actually employ her talents for their own purposes.

I need her to put her talents to use for my purpose.

She's a white hat now.

She won't work for criminals.

But maybe there is a way I could convince her

that hacking into the CIA is a good idea.

You have 72 hours

to prove yourself useful.

- There we are. - Thanks.

So, Tuscany is long way from Boston.

What brings you here?

Uh, Rick Steves.

Uh, Marcus is a sucker

For his folksy adventures.

And Italy's always been a dream of mine.

Yeah, so it was a perfect fit.

- Just like us. - So sweet.

And what do you two do for a living?

Uh, I am a writer.

Ah.I, um, working on my first book.

It's actually an adventure.

It's, uh, sort of a National Treasure

meets Da Vinci Code meets Tom Clancy.

But, like, you know, the good Tom Clancy.

Not, like, the more recent stuff.

Uh, I'm... I also used to play baseball.

Uh, I was a relief pitcher for...

Marcus is such a great writer.

I should know, I'm an English teacher.

She does all my, uh, grammar and spell check.

And she, uh, coaches the dance team.

I minored in ballet.

You're the worst liar I've ever seen.

I'll thank you both to leave.

Wait, look, um...

I'm calling the police.

I-I'm a priest.

Technically, I'm a bishop.

I was at the Vatican the night it was attacked.

My name is Father Charles Donnelly.

We know that rogue elements

of the Vatican and CIA work together as a group

called Arcanum Gladio.

We know it has some connection to that attack.

And we know you were a member.

FBI?

Ah, CIA.

- Mm. - Father Alonso thought

you might be able to help us.

If you know Alonso,

then you know that asking questions about Arcanum Gladio

is bad for your health.

What are you talking about?

Alonso died this morning.

What?

- Oh, my God. - How?

Car accident,

if you believe the authorities.

Arcanum Gladio killed him.

Someone did.

They're trying to clean up this whole mess

because people have been asking too many questions

since the attack on the Vatican; people like you.

Now, I've kept my silence all these years,

and therefore my life.

If you value yours...

I'd advise you to do the same.

These men are dangerous,

and they'll stop at nothing to keep their secrets.

Get out.

I followed The Marshal's directions.

This is exactly where

Sana should be.

This was Sana.

It's been destroyed.

Maybe the Banner with it.

Found the missionary hospital.

All gone.

I knew I should have taken us back to Shangri-La.

Now we're miles from any help.

I didn't know this place would be blown to bits.

I'm not blaming you, Dad.

- I just need to think. - Danny...

Danny!

There's another village a couple miles north

from here on the map.

It's a lot closer than going back.

You're assuming it has medical treatment there.

- No. Daniel! - Yes, Lexi, what?

I need your help to peel this orange.

Lexi, don't move!

Oh, stop. You're shouting.

Where did you get that orange?

The-the ground, silly.

- Right here on the ground. - It's a bomb, isn't it?

- Bomb? Oh, what... - Whoa, whoa, whoa.

- Where? - Hey, hey, hey.

Give it to me and I'm gonna peel it for you.

No. I don't need your help to peel an orange.

I am... whoa.

The room's spinning.

- Don't drop it. Don't throw it. - I know. I know.

For God's sakes, don't shake it.

Dad! I know.

I've never seen a bomb like this before.

It's a cluster munition. It's American-made.

BLU-61.

Wait, what?

What? American?

Wh-Why would we bomb our own hospital?

Danny, I'd love to discuss it with you later,

as soon as you put the bomb down.

It's probably still alive. Now, sharp eyes.

Those things are like cockroaches; you see one,

there's plenty you haven't seen.

You sure seem to know a lot about ordinance.

I thought you just did pickups and deliveries.

We tried to help the Laotians fight Communism

by bombing the living hell out of the country.

This place is littered with unexploded ordinance.

Each BLU-61 had

tens of dozens of nasty little guys, just like that.

Yep...

That sounds about right.

Good place for a break up near that rubble if you need a rest.

Bomb!

I don't need a break.

I know you. Too proud to admit it.

We've spent a combined two days

together in the last 20 years... Bomb!

Let's not pretend like you know me all that well.

A father knows his son.

You're part me, don't forget it.

Believe me, I've tried.

Ah, there it is. It's been brewing up, I get it.

Okay, you win.

I need a break. Let's go here.

Right here.

I hope you're happy. You won the standoff.

I didn't realize it was a standoff.

You don't look so good.

Oh, and the insults just keep coming, don't they?

Come on.

- Get it off your chest. - What? Get what

off my chest?

What a terrible father I am.

I wasn't perfect,

but I'm trying to own my mistakes.

I'm trying to make things right with you

in what little time that I got left.

"Wasn't perfect." You kidding me?

I mean, you weren't even good.

Wait, wait. Wait, what do you mean,

with what little time you got left?

The clinical trials have masked the symptoms, but...

But that's all.

I've been getting by on adrenaline shots.

Well, how long?

Maybe a few weeks.

_

It's been a long time, Simon.

It has.

Why me?

Well, 'cause you're the best.

At least, you were till you went legit.

Says the world-renowned escaped terrorist.

Who says I've escaped?

Yeah. Can't believe everything you read.

You of all people should know the power of disinformation.

The fact is I did the world an enormous favor

when I exposed Jay Reece for the kind of man he was.

Not that I got any thanks.

But while I was conveniently being labeled

public enemy number one, a certain governmental agency

took note of my, um...

Ah, what should we call it? Skill set.

Decided that those gifts would be better employed

outside prison and to far more constructive and positive ends.

The CIA sent you to hire me to hack them?

This sounds like a setup.

Or you're lying.

Well, the first time you hacked the CIA,

it took you three months.

Well, they've just been hacked again,

only this time it's taken 48 hours

for the firewall to be breached.

Looks like someone's bested your record.

Seriously, if you're not up to the challenge, I can...

I can always take this to Mishigawa.

Look, it's a secret.

They think they fixed it.

Just needs to be tested to be sure.

And they've hired you so they have

plausible deniability about the hack.

Also,

if anything goes wrong,

they have a ready-made fall guy.

You'll be paid handsomely from an off-the-books account.

Do feel free to dig into the account history.

You'll see a number of transactions dating back years

consistent with the movements of large amounts of money

from one CIA shell company to another.

This is a big project, Simon.

I can't do this alone.

I thought about that.

Do you remember when you got together

with a number of your associates,

you designed a little race, as I recall?

Yeah.

I could do that,

but it wouldn't be cheap.

Money's not an issue.

So, are you officially a white hat now,

or is this a onetime thing?

All I can say is it doesn't feel half bad

saving lives for a change.

You're dying?

I've just been waiting for the right time to tell you.

Oh! This is the right... This is the right time?

In the middle of a field full of unexploded munitions in Laos?

Okay, so it's not ideal.

Come on. Come on. Come on.

- Behind the wall. - Is someone shooting at us?

Get down. Get down.

It's not bad. It's just a few AKs.

We keep our heads down, we should be okay.

- Oh, yeah, we can take 'em. - Uh-uh.

- That's a flare gun. - Hey!

- We're in a bomb field. - Fine.

Oh!

How are you so calm right now?

I wish I could say this is the first time

I've been in this situation.

Great. Well, how did you get out of it the last time?

Decoy. Made a diversion.

- Hey, I'll be right back. - No, like hell you will.

You're not running off on me again.

They're not gonna cross into the bomb field.

Well, if we wait here long enough,

they'll hit one of the bombs, and they won't have to.

Hey, where do you think that goes?

That path?

Does it matter?

Yeah, that's a fair point.

What about her?

"Her" can hear you.

Adrenaline.

Oh, are you sure that's a good idea?

- Not now. - Not now.

Okay.

Wait for the reload.

- Aah. - Ready?

- Ready. - One.

- Two. - Three.

Go!

I think we lost them back there.

This must be part of the Kong Lor Cave system.

The Laotians lived under here during the bombings.

Went on for miles. Had everything you'd need,

schools to temples.

Everything except light.

Which makes it a great hiding place.

Legend has it there's treasure buried somewhere.

But if you come down here in the darkness,

you risk never coming out.

Well, I'm surprised you never took your shot anyway.

- Nice, smart-ass. - Boys,

can we please focus on the task at hand

before my adrenaline wears off and...

We should camp here.

Agreed.

Bishop Donnelly.

You don't take a hint.

The front door was open.

How'd you know it was me?

Your shoes squeak.

All this sneaking around stuff ain't for me, Father.

I'm a priest, not a spy.

I wanted to apologize for before.

And confess.

When I became a priest, I took a vow of poverty,

chastity and obedience,

and lately

I've been questioning one of those vows.

Especially after what happened to Father Alonso.

One question keeps coming to me.

Who do I obey?

Is it God or is it the Church?

It need not be a choice.

But if lives are at stake,

and I don't seek the truth

that could help save them...

... is that not evil?

Well, we all struggle with such questions.

Father.

What happened in Laos

that turned Sister Victoria into a saint?

A terrorist is on the loose

who has killed many, many people,

including our brothers and sisters.

I need to know what that has to do with what happened in Laos,

and if asking questions gets me killed,

so be it.

I didn't become a priest, for the health plan.

Did you, Father?

Or did you do it to help people?

Because now is your chance.

I've been going through the motions for so many years...

... I can barely remember why I took my vows.

Bishop Donnelly...

... the Lord absolves you of your sins,

and for your penance

I'd like you to hear my confession.

What you got over there?

I want to say...

... SpaghettiOs.

Mmm.

And some crackers.

How old do you think those are?

Probably best if you don't know.

Here.

You know what?

I've had worse.

Yeah.

Me, too.

Ah.

Look what we got here.

Oh, yeah, you sure that's a good idea?

I'm already riddled with the cancer.

A little snake wine's not gonna hurt me now.

Come on.

Eh, what the hell?

Oh, yeah.

Look at that.

What?

It's after midnight, December 25th.

It's Christmas?

Guess it is.

Huh.

It's our first Christmas we've ever spent together.

And apparently the last.

Dad, I wished you'd told me sooner.

You know, for what it's worth, she wanted me to tell you.

Lexi knew?

Yeah. She was smart enough

to know you needed to hear it from me first.

You got a good one there.

Yeah.

I know.

Then what are you waiting for?

She's out like a light.

What would the Romans say? Carpe...

Lexi?

See, I can speak

- some of your antiquity lingo. - Y-You know, I-I don't know

if I can have this conversation with you.

Oh. Not now? Or never?

I don't know.

Jury's out.

Well, you're running out of time to get my nuggets of wisdom.

Dad, I...

Nuggets of wisdom? What?

What's that?

I spent 20 years in prison thinking about my life.

You don't think I could squeeze out a couple nuggets?

Okay, I'm done eating now.

Look, I just... my last year has been pretty crazy.

I can't think about big picture stuff right now.

That's what you think it's about? A year?

What is that supposed to mean?

Danny, problems go a lot deeper than a year.

Trust me, I know.

I was there.

You saw your mother and I at our absolute worst.

Especially me.

It's got to have an effect.

You're so afraid of marriage, your best friend's a priest,

and they're literally not even allowed to get married, right?

You know, my mistake wasn't getting married.

My mistake was pushing away

the best thing that ever happened to me.

The fact that you and Lexi are still together, that's a...

It's a minor miracle.

Miracle?

You ever wonder why you like old stuff so much?

It's 'cause you can count on it.

Because it's always gonna be there.

Danny, you don't trust anything if it hasn't been around

for at least a hundred years.

See that?

It's raining nuggets.

You know, I used to think that you hated me

because I was a criminal.

I didn't find out until earlier today

that you hated me because I left you alone.

I don't, I don't hate you... Dad.

Well, that's a start.

We thought the Soviets were going to destroy the world.

What could be more holy than saving

all of the Lord's creation?

The entire region that had once been conquered

by Genghis Khan was largely Communist...

And atheist.

So the Vatican and the CIA had a common enemy.

Not officially.

But elements within each organization who,

who believed in the cause formed Arcanum Gladioin secret.

They thought they could end the Cold War

with one swing of the sword.

By wiping out the entire Communist world

with a genetically engineered plague?

This was the Nuclear Age.

Always on the precipice of Armageddon.

My job was to help mask the operation

by doing missionary work in...

In hospitals throughout Laos.

But...

... we needed human subjects.

What happened when Sister Victoria stopped you?

The Vatican found out what we were working on,

how far things had gone.

They stopped it immediately.

And the CIA covered it up.

And Sister Victoria became Saint Victoria,

but the world could never know why.

I failed God's test

by keeping it secret...

... and therefore made redemption impossible.

Ego te absolvo.

Hmm, Dad?

Hi.

- Bad dream? - Hey.

You're alive.

Apparently.

Thanks to them.

Always fixing me up.

Kind of becoming our routine, huh?

Everything's a bit of a blur since the accident.

Did I say anything embarrassing?

No more than usual.

At death's door and you see how he treats me?

This man...

Your father found us.

He's up in the temple. Go.

We can take care of her.

Okay.

Go to him.

Hey.

Hey.

I got a little restless at dawn.

Had a feeling to come this way.

You ever seen anything like this before?

No.

I haven't.

Thank you for coming with me to Laos.

Thanks for bringing me.

Hey.

Ah, turns out, after the bombing,

all the villagers came through here.

Our, uh, new friends say the person we need to talk to

is Sister Victoria.

She rescued all of us from Sana.

We've been on the trail of an ancient Spirit Banner

called the Soul of Genghis Khan.

We believe it came to Sana.

Yes.

Sister Victoria gave it to me.

She thought it was Buddhist

and belonged with us.

I sent the Banner north with a monk

to return it to Mongolia.

Do you remember his name?

Gen Huang.

He said he would travel

through China to return the Banner

back to its rightful place.

What else can you tell us about this Gen Huang?

He was a simple man...

_

Block the entrance. We're on our way.

What is it?

Okay, we need a plan.

Or guns.

- Preferably both. - No guns in the temple.

Those men will honor it, too.

The candles...

Can everyone run?

Not like I used to.

- I may vomit. - Great. Follow me.

_

It's a dead end.

We're trapped.

There's a current.

It's fresh water, from outside.

We can swim out.

Ugh. Bugger.

Let's move.

Danny, more bombs!

I know!

- Bombs?! - Keep running!

Oh, right! The orange!

Lexi, that's a...

I know! Take cover.

Oh, don't pretend like that was your plan all along.

Where'd you find pizza at 3:00 a.m.?

Giancana hooked it up.

After baring our souls, we got snacky.

You okay?

We work for bad people, Kate.

Some of them were, Chuck.

But others are trying to make it right.

And we can help them.

How?

Trust.

Responsibility.

Taking the weight for your choices and feelings,

and spending the rest of your life living up to them.

Did you just quote Meet Joe Black?

I've still never seen that movie.

I'm just saying the CIA can use

this information to see how the Khan compromised them.

I have a jet waiting for me.

I-I have to go look into it.

For now, you stay here.

No.

Someone at the Vatican is cleaning up

everything related to Arcanum Gladio,

and now that includes Danny and Lexi.

And you.

I'm going back to Rome

- to find out who. - Chuck...

If someone got hurt because I waited...

I underestimated you.

Be careful.

You, too.

Congratulations.

Your meeting delivered even better results

than we were hoping for.

Well, that's good, 'cause...

So Martina hacked the CIA already, did she?

No. But thanks to the transmitter

that I had sewn in the lining of your suit,

we were able to read all the data

from the computers that she tried so hard to keep shielded.

So when she put out a bounty

on the assignment that you suggested,

her friends flocked to it like bees to honey.

They were easy to find.

What's happening?

Thanks to you, we're eliminating

all the top white hat hackers all over the world.

Now there's no one who can get in the way of our final plans.

Well done.

Hey, The Marshal sent word.

"Thanks to all of you, Shangri-La might actually

"get some peace and quiet.

Hell, the whole Golden Triangle might."

"Thanks."

- Nice work, Smoke. - Yeah.

Well, I'll go load up.

Hey.

You're staying here, Dad.

In Shangri-La.

No way.

You were happy here.

After everything you've been through...

Everything we've been through...

You deserve this.

What about the FBI, right? What about Harper?

You made a promise.

I'm not leaving you to clean up my mess ever again.

Don't worry.

I'll tell Harper you didn't make it out.

He'll be thrilled not to have to deal with you anymore.

Ready to go?

I'm gonna catch up with you.

Oh.

Stay out of trouble?

No promises.

This was fun.

Yeah.

Danny, uh...

Uh...

I got something for you.

Merry Christmas.

I just thought this way I could always be with you.

Yeah.

Careful with that clasp.

It's kind of old, so...

Yeah.

I love you, son.

I love you, too, Dad.
