- [Instructor] A B roll shoot is often done

for a very specific purpose and when it involves talent,

that talent needs to be believable in their moment

and environment without saying a word.

Here's a clip from a B roll shoot I conducted

for a video about a file sharing solution

where the talent had to pretend to engage

with the software application

and show it being used in a positive light.

With B roll your directing should be streamlined.

There's no need to overthink what you're shooting.

Your main job is often to reflect

a mood in a particular situation.

You're quickly telling a mini-story

so you must keep your direction simple.

One quick tip while shooting B roll with talent.

Let them have real conversations.

If you actors stage a conversation,

their body language might look fake

and show up in your frame.

Let them talk to each other and the performance will fade

into the scene and not distract from your B roll's purpose.
