- No matter what form these
meetings and rehearsals take,

you need to make sure you plan them well

and follow some guidelines

while conducting your rehearsals.

I know I've already said this,

but rehearsal is crucial to
prep your characters and story

and to develop their
relationships with each other,

not just to go through how
each scene is going to go.

You want to always have a
plan for your rehearsals.

But not every scene needs a rehearsal,

so you want to respect
your and your actors' time.

When you're rehearsing, you want to listen

and respect your actors'
input into things.

Things that actors have
to say about the scene

can enhance or even change the dynamic

between the characters in
ways you never thought of,

and you can find things to
add or remove in this process.

Now while you're doing
all this rehearsing,

realize that not everything
requires addressing.

Sometimes a character
is just drinking a beer,

sometimes they're just closing a door.

You don't need to have them
do it over and over again

to get it, quote, "right."

Don't micromanage and
rehearse scenes ad nauseam,

very important.

Rehearsing too much can really
work to kill spontaneity,

so you want to go through things enough

for people to become familiar,
but not overly familiar.

While you're rehearsing, pay attention.

As a director or producer,

you need to learn to
recognize when an actor

has got that moment for their character.

Again, don't over-rehearse.

If you can, you want to take time

to go through moments and lines
even with minor characters,

but not overly so.

But don't discount them.

While there will always
be additional issues

that come up during the shoot,

use these meeting and
rehearsal opportunities

to work out most of
your talents' questions

regarding their roles and the script.

And what if you have absolutely no time

for quality rehearsal in your schedule?

You must be able to trust your actors

and have cast well.
