Well, I really thought that we'd have a thousand ounces

at this point in the season and we're, like,

I think a fifth of that or something.

Gold production has just been basically zero.

10,000 ounces is not looking very good right now,

not gonna lie.

Parker schnabel is in uncharted territory.

He's off to his worst start to a season in 10 years.

Seven weeks in, he has just 364 ounces

of his 10,000 ounce gold.

There's just a mountain of problems

and zero revenue

and money going out the door like crazy.

I really don't know how to UN this.

Parker is chasing a potential

$200 million in gold at dominion.

But decoding the 7,500-acre claim

is proving tougher than expected.

Right now, we're dealing

with a whole bunch of teething issues.

And basically,

dominion has been sort of kicking our ass.

We need to figure out the ground.

Parker is throwing

a quarter of a million dollars a week

into finding dominion's best gold

and needs to bring in 100 ounces a week

just to keep the lights on.

The one cut he's sluicing, the long cut,

is paying out poorly,

so he's feverishly stripping two more cuts.

The bridge pit is nearly ready.

And Ken and Stuart's is nowhere near ready.

Two to three weeks most likely.

With only one option available,

Parker plans to sluice the bridge cut next,

which he's praying will deliver better gold.

I am gonna go straight to Tyson and Mitch.

They're the ones that are the best at getting plants

up and rolling and, you know, get them fired up

and keep them fired up

and get some gold coming in.

Parker's want to hit that 10,000 ounces.

A lot's gotta happen here

in a very short period of time.

is running pay from the long cut

through wash plant Roxanne.

The long cut has been very difficult

when you look at the sluicing sampling of it

because it's so narrow and so long.

It's definitely not the way we like to do cuts.

You know, it was great when we were stripping the ground

but, you know, not so much now that we've gotta sluice it.

We have a mountain of work to do.

- Time to make some money. - Yeah.

- You're telling me. - Yeah.

That's part of the reason

why I wanna come talk to you.

So big red needs to fire up.

But, like, there's good material

coming out of the ditches and the bridge cut,

and that all needs to go to big red.

The bridge cut now needs

a spot for a plant pad figured out.

And I really think the best thing is

for one of you two -to spin out of here...

And build the plant pad and the bridge cut.

- Do you have a preference? - I don't care what I do.

I mean, Tyson really likes setting up the plant, so.

4,000 feet away from the 20-acre long cut

sits Parker's 114-acre bridge cut.

Parker wants to truck ditch dirt

from the bridge cut to big red's current location

one mile away and sluice immediately.

At the same time,

Tyson will build a new 60-foot high pad

for big red nearer to the bridge cut pay.

Once the pad's completed, Tyson must drag big red

from its old pad to its new location

and be sluicing by the end of the week.

I mean, it's crunch time right now.

Parker wants to get sluicing and have some money coming in

that's not just from the long cut.

So we're out here truckin'

ditch material all the way to big red.

Earlier in the season,

Parker ran long cut ditch dirt for a week.

They delivered a pathetic 30 ounces.

Now, he's praying for a better result

from the bridge cut.

In previous years,

we have sent a lot more ditch material out of the cut

just because it didn't have enough gold in it

to make it worth runnin'.

But since the high gold prices this year,

might as well take a chance at some ditch material

that we don't know what's in it

and hope for the best.

So here we are at bridge cut.

I'm just about to throw the first bucket of big red.

We are now sluicing two plants.

Big red has to be moved to the bridge cut.

If we don't finish this pay pile

before Tyson's ready for us,

it's just gonna be left here and it'll be a waste of pay,

and we can't really afford that.

There's something really...

Something really wrong with the plant.

The plant's making a really weird noise.

What the hell? The spring broke.

We need to have this deck shaking evenly

across all four corners.

And if we've got a dead spring on one side,

we effectively got a dead corner,

and then one side of the deck sitting down,

the other deck Springs break in turn

and sort of a chain reaction.

Big red's shaker deck sits on eight Springs.

One has broken, triggering an imbalance,

putting big red at risk of shaking itself apart.

We got a new spring here

that I'm just fitting in to the shaker,

then we'll be back online once this is installed.

After just two hours of downtime,

big red is back, washing ditch dirt.

We're ready to finish this pay pile.

While Tyson works on the bridge cut's new pad.

We just gotta get big red moved up here

onto this pad, get pay stockpiled.

So the fire is officially lit under my ass right now.

Rally valley has been fighting us tooth and nail,

but we finally got dirt out of it, you know,

monster red's up and running.

We just did, you know, over a 300-ounce cleanup

by the first run which is amazing.

And, you know, this is what we've been waiting for.

Just always gotta keep it running, keep it going,

get gold coming in.

Rick ness is racing to mine out rally valley,

which holds the richest pay of his career.

Three days of sluicing

has paid out 318 ounces of gold,

a fifth of his 1,500-ounce target.

I knew the dirt was good but, you know,

until you see it, there's always that feeling

of, you know, "is it there? Is it not?"

It took us a while to get here

but everybody's fought hard for it,

everybody's worked hard,

and that's where we're at now.

Now we just start watching the fruits of our labor

add up in the jar.

But Rick needs more big paydays

as water license problems

mean it could be his last season at Duncan creek.

To make matters worse, the clock is ticking

on rally valley's gold,

as groundwater gradually seeps into the cut,

threatening to flood it out.

We've been busy slamming the dirt

through this plant.

Really nice getting some gold in the box for Rick.

Everyone's happy.

Rick's got a smile on his face again,

so we're all glad to see that.

I know our goal of 1,500 ounces

is definitely achievable if this ground

is as rich as Rick thinks it is.

Chasing a big reward comes with a big risk.

Rick's crew is 160 feet down,

deeper than they've ever been before.

So, like, when I'm digging into it,

you know, I'm not gonna dig the harder material there,

just take away the fluffier stuff from it.

I don't want to undermine the bank here

and then have a cave in, so it's just, you know,

take what's slid in and that's it.

Now we're holing out of this corner

where there's been a lot of slides right now,

so it's important we get it out

because we need to get the gold that's underneath it

but it's also one hell of a sketchy area.

All of our sluice water is backing up

and seeping right back into rally valley.

And it's flooding fast.

And if it just keeps filling up like that,

we're gonna lose the rest of the pay down in rally valley.

I've got to get that water directed to a safe spot.

- Yeah. - And we've got to get our pump down there

because it's filling up fast.

And we've got to get that drained out.

Wash plant monster red

sits above the east side of rally valley,

300 feet away from the edge of the pit's wall.

Sluice water from the plant has traveled down the valley,

seeped into the wall,

collapsing it, and flooding the cut.

Rick's plan?

Move his only working pump,

currently feeding sluice water to monster red

1,000 feet to rally valley.

Drain the cut of all the water

down to the remaining 10 feet of pay,

then haul out and stockpile all the remaining pay

down the bedrock

before he's able to start sluicing again.

Let's go.

Yeah. I mean, we're trying to cut a step.

We didn't wanna take the suction line off.

So yeah, there's some weight and stress on that bar.

Sure it'll be a little nerve-wracking

on the way down as it is

the only pump we actually have right now.

Watch your heads.

The 8-inch pump

drains 3,000 gallons of water a minute.

Within 24 hours,

Rick should be back on his best ever goal.

Well, we got the pump going, which is good.

We got to get the rest of the pay out of rally valley,

but I'm feeling the stress right now.

I mean, we need that pay.

We got to get it out before it's unsafe.

And we just got to get a move on.

Our goal is you get 1,000 ounces.

We are making progress there.

We're just nowhere near where I would like to be.

We still have a lot of ground to open up.

We still gotta get the plant over.

so it will run consistently.

rookie mine boss, Kevin beets,

is still not on the gold

and quickly burning through his life savings.

It's always stressful when you're spending money

after, you know, nothing coming in

and you know there's a lot of big bills coming up.

But I can't let that get to me.

Otherwise, I'll spend more time worrying

than dealing with it.

The goal this week is we wanna get down to a pay.

That is where we wanna be end of the week.

Kevin wanted to be washing pay two weeks ago,

but has been battling delays.

In his lynx cut,

it has taken six weeks of ripping and stripping

to remove only 20 feet of overburden

in just 3 acres of the cut.

Kevin's crew still has 2 feet to clear before they hit pay,

and he wants it done by the end of the week

so they can finally start sluicing.

What's been keeping me up lately

is the struggle to try and reach 1,000-ounce goal

on the first season

with a small crew and old equipment.

And it is gonna be a feat to get there,

so I had Matt and Ashley get on.

I worked with them last year up here.

We were mining at another mine site.

I've just shown up

and I'm excited to go move some dirt

and get us closer to getting some gold.

So it's gonna be a good day.

To get on the gold faster, foreman Brennan ruault

has enlisted Matt kiefer's fiancee,

experienced operator, ash Phillips.

I can't wait until we get that first gold

out of the ground.

Like, you've put in all the hard work

and then you see that gold for the first time.

It's like, "okay. It was worth it."

This is my first year with Kevin, obviously,

but this is my fifth year in the Yukon.

Brennan called me.

He needed a set of hands

to help out Kevin and faith

and I figured it was a good time

to get on the road

and come see my fiance, Matthew,

who's been up here for quite a while.

I'm, like, trying to get better

at not letting stress eat me alive

because that's not good for anybody.

It is pretty intense at times

especially when you got breakdown after breakdown

and on top of all that and a small crew.

The sun is thawing stuff out

and making a sloppy mess

that we're having a hard time getting through.

20-year-old operator hunter canning

has been trucking overburden out of the lynx cut

for the last four weeks.

This truck is really not in good shape.

It's struggling.

Hopefully we just get dry weather

and it stays like that, so it's not so brutal.

Matt and I got hired out to get the dirt moved

and the sooner we get sluicing,

the happier we'll all be.

I have to watch out for the other operators.

The main thing here is not beating the iron up,

so we can keep running it.

Of the gears.

We really gotta be gentle with them.

Every season, I go through a little phase of panic.

It's always kind of the same circumstance

where you have a whole bunch of projects

that are kind of halfway done.

And we're just coming into panic season for me.

It's a big machine that needs a lot of fuel.

Fuel being money.

On dominion,

Parker's battling to rescue his season.

Roxanne is running pay dirt from the long cut,

desperate for some income

and with gold prices at an all-time high,

Parker's sluicing low-grade ditch pay

from the bridge cut trucked to big red.

You know, we just finished off

your wash plant pad and so we got to move big red.

Tyson can finally move big red to the bridge cut.

So right now, we're gonna have to shut the plant down,

but this is the blast scoop here at big red.

No time like the present?

We need to get the sluice box cleaned up,

emptied out so Tyson can move it,

get it down to the new site,

so we can put it back together again.

So everybody's in a bit of a hustle right now.

At the bridge cut, Tyson spent two days

building big red's new plant pad.

All right, Tyson. You're all set, buddy.

- All righty. - Get her done, young man.

This is gonna be damn near

one of the fastest plant moves we've ever done.

If we can get it done.

You know, we have a lot to do. Moving big red.

It's not moving a short distance.

Everything's got to line up perfectly today

or we're not gonna be sluicing.

So Tyson called me and basically said,

"get up here. We're moving big red and we're in a panic

and we're short guys."

So here I am and him and I work well together.

So we got today to move it.

To help, Tyson's called in

his old boss and mentor, Mike tupper.

Tyson had a dream of going gold mining

and here he is and now, I guess he's the boss

and I'm his little kid.

So just swing straight this way.

Lift up.

And now, we're just lifting the sluice runs away from big red.

Once the kenworth can back under them, drop them down.

We'll chain it down.

Then tupper will go, hook up to the plant.

He'll drag the plant.

Once we get the plant in, the sluice runs in,

we'll come back for the feeder.

And then we'll play reassembly up there.

Big red needs to be moved in three pieces,

one mile across the bridge cut

to the top of its new plant pad.

Then assembled and fired up by the end of the day.

Don't break it.

To save time,

Tyson sends the sluice runs on a lowboy to the pad,

while tupper drags big red in the 750.

Right now we have big red on the move.

Turn to your right now, tupper, hard right.

All right. I'm through the cut

and I'm just coming up upon the ramp.

This ramp's really narrow.

I got to stay right in the center.

Here we go. Here we go.

That was close.

I thought I was going over for sure.

Tyson's just checking right now

to see if this plant is level.

Done? Bingo, first shot, love it.

The wash plant's level,

now we got the sluice runs in place.

So we're gonna go work on the feeder.

The last piece to be hauled in,

the hopper feeder on a lowboy.

So right now we're trying to get the hopper out

and it's pretty stuck.

Roll excavators are way too far away

and we gotta get this thing moved and running.

The hopper's 80-ton lowboy

is stuck in the soft mud.

To free it and get it moving,

Tyson attaches a chain to his loader to tow it out.

Piece of junk.

Just broke one chain.

I got a plan here.

Two half-inch chains both sides.

So right now, I really don't have time for this.

We need to be up at the wash plant,

not trying to get a feeder unstuck.

At rally valley, Rick's crew are in a rush

to dig down to bedrock

and stockpile all of its gold-rich pay

before the cut floods again.

Finally got the water down again

starting to hold pay at the rally valley.

We're trying to get as fast as we can

and get all this pay out.

It's probably one of the hardest cuts

that I've ever done.

You know, this thing just keeps throwing curve balls.

It's definitely getting a little bit unsafe every day

more and more we're down here.

We've got a small crew

but the small crew that we have,

they bust their ass.

But yeah, today it's everybody's hands on board.

I manage Rick's mine.

I do everything from paying the bills,

the payroll, fuel, logistics,

every aspect of the mining operation

except for digging the actual pay.

With Rick's best pay at risk

of another landslide or flood,

he's brought in logistics manager Jason folster

to drive one of his three rock trucks

and get to the pay faster.

The mining lifestyle,

it was just something that fit.

For me, doing this work

doesn't even feel like a job.

It's just... it's just a way of life for me.

At rally valley, Rick is down a rock truck

in the race to haul out gold-rich pay.

We're back. All of our rock trucks running, which is good.

We still got a lot of pay to get out of rally valley,

so we can't relax just yet.

We've had a lot of delays

and, we really can't afford

too many more at this point.

Eventually that piggybank does run dry.

I'd like to see gold come in before that happens.

All these things are just delays.

We really need to get sluicing

as soon as possible.

Kevin beets is fixing up his wash plant

in preparation to run pay,

but his crew are at each other's throats.

when I didn't really need help.

I'm hoping it gets better

because I'm at the point right now

where it's a hostile environment.
