[Only Side by Side with You]

[Episode 36]

What do you take me for?

Listen to me, Shi Yue.

I don't need anyone sacrificing themselves for me.

What I want is a love that is equal.

I can share successes with you...

which means I'm also capable of sharing dangers with you.

I came here to tell you that Shi Yue's past is a part of him.

When I chose to accept him, I chose to accept all of him.

What I care about is his present and his future.

I care about whether we trust each other

and what we're able to do for each other.

You're not afraid I'll destroy you both?

It wouldn't be your first time trying.

From now on, no matter what you do, come directly for me.

Leave Shi Yue out of it.

What did I say last time?

There has to be at least one step between us.

Let's reintroduce ourselves...

Shi Yue.

Nan Qiao.

I know more than anyone else what kind of person An Ning is.

You people have no idea what she's capable of.

That's why I chose to leave Nan Qiao and Future Up.

But it was a mistake.

That's why I've returned.

If you gave me another chance, I would make the same decision.

But I wouldn't.

If I had another chance, I would admit to taking your paper.

- Get over here! - Let go of me!

- Get over here! - Let go!

- Let go! - Get over here!

Wake up, will you?

Shi Yue, Shi Yue, why is it always Shi Yue?

Look at yourself right now.

Is it worth doing this to yourself for one man?

Are you even An Ning anymore?

You're so funny when you're jealous.

What's wrong, President Wen? Why are you sitting here by yourself?

Did an ex invite you to his wedding or something?

I'd have preferred that.

I'd definitely be able to steal the thunder at his own wedding.

[Invitation]

"We cordially invite Future Up's CEO, Ms. Nan Qiao..."

Asian Science and Technology Conference?

This is like the Michelin of technological innovation!

They always choose their attendees by hand.

You can't even sign up!

- The fact that they chose us is... - Really fantastic.

And it's sponsored by the affluent Huaxin Capital.

The Hermes of venture capital investors.

The Rolls Royce of financing.

The father that brought up so many startups from ground up.

- I'm going to tell everyone! - Tell them what?

Tell them that it's not that your boss Nan Qiao doesn't want to go...

but instead, she came up with some excuse about fear of making public speeches.

So she's not going?

We're letting go of this opportunity just like that?

We can't, President Wen! You have to convince her.

- You try convincing her. - I can't!

I'll back down as soon as she opens her mouth.

Say... who do you think makes your boss back down?

Who? Tell me!

[I'll be back soon.]

What are you doing?

Being Nan Qiao's private chef.

You're that determined to hop into the mundane routine of everyday life?

Don't be too jealous. It's not like you're getting anywhere with Ouyang Qi.

Keep enjoying your life as a bachelor.

Do you think it's appropriate for you to just move in with her like this?

No. So move out then.

If Ouyang Qi opened her doors to me, I wouldn't stay here for another second!

Wendy?

Go on.

She's good at coming up with excuses. No worries, I'll think of something. Bye.

Pumpkin. Onions.

Unfair!

You and Nan Qiao were the ones with a gulf between you.

Now you're taking food from our home?

By the way, keep an eye on An Ning and Wings for me.

And he finally speaks the truth. You're worried.

You just want to be there to protect her 24 hours a day.

I'll definitely do everything to watch her, especially now.

I'll be sure to be one step ahead of her no matter what she plans.

If anything comes up, notify me immediately.

Don't worry! I have somebody on An Ning's side.

Otherwise how would I have known she'd go to Future Up to harass Nan Qiao?

- I'll be counting on you. - Don't worry.

Go on and enjoy your private little two-person world!

I'm a computer genius...

and now I've become you and Nan Qiao's personal security guard.

And I will always love you...

I will always...

You went grocery shopping?

Are you going to cook for me?

If you want a woman's heart, you have to satisfy her stomach.

Let me see what you plan on using to satisfy my stomach.

I hate bitter melon.

Here's the thing.

Future Up has been through so much.

Now, it's finally being recognized by the Asia Technology Conference.

Thus, bitterness is usually followed by sweetness.

What do the onions represent?

If you accept the invitation, then it's elation and pride.

Wendy sent you here to persuade me, didn't she?

Partially.

What's the other part?

The other part is that I admonished her.

No one can force my woman to do what she doesn't want to do.

Also I meant to buy a winter melon, but they were out.

What is a winter melon supposed to represent?

Wedding night festivities.

Why are you even so inappropriate when it comes to buying vegetables?

I don't know either.

Just so you know, I'll stand by you no matter what you do.

So just now, I tore the invitation letter up.

You tore it up?

That's the only way to get into the conference! Why did you tear it up?

You didn't see her.

Wendy's expression at the time was exactly the same as yours.

I didn't even give her a definite answer yet.

I just said maybe, probably, not definitely.

Hold on, let me translate.

What you mean is, it's likely, it's possible, there's a chance...

that you'll accept the invitation, right?

You've already ripped it up anyway.

So it's my fault now? Are you blaming me?

No!

I did kind of want to go. Just a little. But you've already torn it, so whatever.

Will you tell me why you wouldn't go?

You know I don't like these events.

I'm afraid of crowds.

No, but your performance on the talk show was better than mine.

That's because you drove me to do so.

I'm not good at public speeches, and even less so at marketing myself.

This isn't marketing though.

It's just a chance to discuss your motivation to make drones

and your ideas for the future. Doesn't that sound great?

- So you think I should go. - I hope to be able to see you on stage.

I mean it's not as if I can go now.

Guess what, I made a bet with Wendy.

If you don't accept the invitation to the conference in five minutes...

I'll lose.

What did you guys bet?

Eating this thing raw.

I'm not going.

Want to have a taste?

I'll give you five minutes to think about it.

[Technology Conference Asia]

[Future Up CEO Nan Qiao to Attend Technology Conference]

What's going on here?

I said to make Future Up a laughingstock within the industry.

Yet why does it still have the right to attend the technology conference?

Tai is about to send the shipment out.

You can't even manage something as simple as stepping over Nan Qiao.

Call Tai over. I'll send him.

Things are very tense right now.

We gave Tai that other task to handle, so we shouldn't distract him right now.

What is this? Shi Yue has betrayed me. Are you betraying me now as well?

Are you people now interfering with everything that I do?

These are special circumstances.

It's best that you find somewhere to lay low for a while.

I've already made arrangements. I can keep an eye on things here.

Are you under the assumption that I can no longer control this situation?

It's been so many years. What haven't I been through?

Have I not led us all through every kind of situation?

When have I ever hidden?

Now there's just a few people and things that weren't in the plans

and you're telling me to go hide? Are you crazy?

Ning.

I'm not talking about Shi Yue and Nan Qiao.

I'm talking about Nan Qiao.

You're only in charge of getting yourself safely out.

The technology conference can be a shining moment for Future Up...

But it can also be a scandal.

Leave this to me.

You don't need to keep staring at me like that.

I won't back out on something I've agreed upon.

I said I'd go, so I'll definitely go.

You're in full-on battle mode. You sound like you're ready to chop down enemies.

Can you see in my eyes--

Can't you see in my eyes the three words I want to say?

I can't see your eyes. Get out of there!

I haven't seen enough.

But I'm--

President Wen.

I will leave on time! Stop nagging.

Something's come up. You need to come to the office.

Look, President Wen.

I don't know what I'm looking at though, just tell me how serious it is.

What's going on? Has our code really been leaked?

Boss, someone opened a thread in an online forum

and posted a code that I confirmed is Phoenix's code.

Drone forums both here and abroad have exploded.

These are all pretty surface-level.

Have we confirmed how much as been leaked?

I'm checking right now.

The core technology and programs are all with me.

Even if they got their hands on it...

it's only the calculations and code for the cameras and image processing.

I actually suspect that this is a trick.

Why leak everything today of all times?

You're saying they're targeting the conference.

Exactly. Leaking everything now puts Xiao Qiao under attack all around.

No one is going to care what you're saying on stage.

They'll only press you on how Future Up is going to keep their foothold

with the codes leaked.

They're just waiting for you to be humiliated

so they can use it as an eye-catching news headline.

Wendy makes sense.

Not good. Boss, more codes have been leaked.

No way.

This concerns our flight system.

Yeah? I know you want to ask about Future Up's code leak.

It's what you think. An Ning's behind it.

- I knew she wouldn't give up so easily. - That's not all.

I discovered something else in her computer.

What?

Hey, Shi Yue. It's me, Chang Jian Xiong.

Hao Jie found key evidence suggesting that what we guessed before was accurate.

An Ning is transporting narcotics?

Yes.

Evidence?

Plenty. Shi Yue, I think it's time to call the cops.

Get in touch with Officer Zhang. Don't use your phone.

- What about you? - I'm going to An Ning.

Shi Yue, that's going to give her the heads up.

If you go see her, she'll know we're looking into her.

It's too late.

She'll know as soon as we start investigating her.

She has a U.S. passport. She'll definitely leave immediately.

I have to keep her here.

Shi Yue, don't be impulsive.

Let me notify the cops, then let's go together, okay?

- You can't even handle... - Let's head out.

We're following the original plan and going to the conference.

Go with them to the conference first.

- What about you? - I need to meet with An Ning.

This incident has to do with her, right?

Are you going alone?

There are some things I have to settle on my own.

I might even perform better without you there.

I'll be listening to your speech.

Thank An Ning for me.

She pushed me to make a decision I always wanted to make but was afraid to.

Be careful.

You should go now.

I've already made arrangements in the States.

I will use internal operational adjustments as an excuse

to temporarily close Wings as we get through this period.

How serious is it?

Don't lie to me.

The computer shows signs of being hacked.

Despite the fact that we've implemented the highest security measures...

I can't guarantee that no information got leaked.

If someone is investigating, we'll be in trouble.

Who could it be?

A hacker... the police...

It could also be...

Shi Yue.

Right?

Now isn't the time to discuss this.

You need to leave. I'll follow up on this.

It won't be Shi Yue.

I trust him.

Ning, what time is this?

You're still thinking of how to tackle Future Up?

This is the most irrational thing you've ever done.

You need to leave now!

If you find out that it's Shi Yue...

don't touch him.

If he knows too much, your safety is my highest priority.

I said do not touch him!

If he's lied to me, I'll deal with him myself.

Also, once I leave, you have to watch out for your own safety.

And Tai.

Don't worry. I've made arrangements.

He knows what to do during critical moments in order to not burden you.

I didn't think that such a day would come for me as well.

Falling into mud, fighting for survival.

Using such unscrupulous methods just to save myself...

I singlehandedly turned Tai into my pawn, didn't I?

When you get to my age, you'll learn...

Our only feelings are the ones we have for ourselves.

Everything else...

cannot be trusted.

I'll go down and wait for you.

She's been gone for some time.

I think they've caught on.

[Officer Zhang, Narcotics Cop] I know.

I'm with Officer Zhang right now.

- You should come over. - Where should we meet?

I'll send you the location.

[Robber]

And that concludes my speech for today. Thank you everyone.

Next, let's welcome Future Up's founder, Nan Qiao, to the stage.

Stay calm no matter what I say on stage.

We'll support you no matter what you say.

Dad!

Don't look at me, look at the stage! Pay attention.

Okay.

Did An Ning escape?

Don't worry, she won't be escaping this time.

Thanks for your help all this time. Let me know as soon as you have news.

But we haven't resolved the issue. Shi Yue and Nan Qiao are still in danger.

Don't worry. We have her surrounded. She won't be able to run.

Thank you.

Thank you for being on our side this whole time.

I don't think An Ning will come back when she leaves this time.

From now on, An Ning has nothing more to do with you or Nan Qiao.

It's not done until she's caught.

- In America I think-- - You know what I mean.

You don't need to be a world-saving hero right now.

What you need to do is stay by Nan Qiao's side.

I just thought of something.

The live broadcast of Nan Qiao's speech is starting. Want to see it?

If you aren't going to watch, I'm going to watch it by myself.

The reception isn't so great here.

I can only get signal here.

She's looking pretty great today.

And she put on makeup. Let me zoom in for a closeup.

- Not bad. - Good afternoon, everyone.

Pretty.

So elegant and poised.

One of my most frequently asked questions

is why, as a girl, I'm so determined to develop drones.

And I want to ask, why not?

Every time there's an advancement within an industry...

it's always because there are people changing the rules of the game.

If software engineering has always been a man's world...

then that means technological advancement this time

must be accomplished by women who break the traditional rules of the game.

Breaking the rules and pushing boundaries has always been Future Up's goal.

The drone we've brought here today is a great example.

People have always wished to swim under the ocean like the fish...

and to soar in the skies like the birds.

Now, with diving technology, we can move around freely under the sea.

Flying, however, is still limited to airplanes, paragliding...

and other similarly expensive activities.

Future Up has always tried to lower the cost of flying vehicles.

- She's great. - We not only change their function...

so that everyone can easily control them and possess a birds' eye view.

That way, everyone can experience the joys of flying.

Excuse me for interrupting, Ms. Nan. There's been a situation.

Just half an hour ago, someone leaked Phoenix's code online.

Are you aware of this situation?

I can only say that those are surface-level codes that are not crucial.

So you acknowledge that there has been a leak?

I don't believe that "leak" is the right word.

Then what is it?

It's not only the leaker who can possess Phoenix's base code.

Everyone here can have it as well.

Boss has lost her mind.

Isn't she handing out all our hard work?

She's finally doing what she's always wanted to do.

You're saying you want Phoenix into open source software?

Phoenix is the first prototype we ever developed.

Its source code is our most advanced.

Both we and our industry competitors believed

that this code was the key to Future Up's survival and existence.

But science and technology have never been about one person or one company.

Future Up's dream isn't about the sales and profits of a machine.

So I've come here today to announce...

that I'm going to release Phoenix's source code into the world.

All drone enthusiasts and specialists are free to develop their own machines.

Everyone can try achieving their dreams, and create their own Future Up.

Aside from announcing the release of the source code...

I also want to share with you all Future Up's next step.

[Natural Disasters]

[Tsunamis]

Every year, several hundred thousand people die in natural disasters.

In 1970, 300,000 victims died in Bangladesh's Bhola cyclone.

In 1976, over 240,000 of our people died in the Tangshan earthquake.

There are still all kinds of disasters striking all parts of the world.

Every country contributes a lot of effort towards researching disaster response.

This is Jäger, Future Up's newly developed search-and-rescue drone.

It will be capable of efficiently rescuing disaster victims

and minimizing the loss of disaster responders.

Hopefully, Jäger will live up to its task and help us preserve our lives.

This is the latest development in our drone research

and a gift to my family.

Thank you.

Ms. Nan, when do you plan on releasing it on the market?

- Excuse me. - Thanks Nan Qiao...

for giving us such an excellent speech.

At our Asia Technology Conference...

- Dad! - there are often lots of surprises...

for people to witness. And every year, there are...

I saw you applauding.

Did I do okay?

Not bad.

That's it? Nothing else?

Is there anything a daughter of mine isn't capable of?

Thanks Dad.

There's so many people here, what are you doing?

So?

Come on.

I've known her longer than you have.

So? She's still mine.

All the turning points in her life had to do with me.

Had to do--

What turning points?

I played a trick on her when we were young

and locked her in a dark room for a whole day and night.

Our parents didn't realize until later.

She didn't speak for a month afterwards.

The doctors diagnosed it as selective mutism.

And then?

The other military kids made fun of her for being mute.

I rushed in to fight with them.

She watched me getting beaten up from the distance.

You're really something.

You knew how to gain sympathy from that young, huh?

Who would have thought? Xiao Qiao picked up a this giant brick

and yelled at the kids on top of me, "Let go of Chang Jian Xiong!"

She spoke because she forgave you.

Yeah.

She forgave me, but I didn't forgive myself.

That was the beginning of Xiao Qiao and me.

A mistake.

From then on, every time she lost her voice from stress...

it felt like she was telling me that protecting her was my responsibility.

Responsibility.

Her muteness is like her defense mechanism.

Allowing her to be vulnerable once in a while isn't a bad thing.

Well, it's time for her shield of muteness to exit the stage.

Now her defense mechanism is you.

With you military kids... who knows who's protecting who in the end?

This feels great! There's finally someone to control you.

Ms. Nan.

It got really frustrated waiting for you.

My Robber is back!

I'm your robber.

It's a pity you didn't get to see me live today.

Those people can only see you for a few minutes.

But me? I can see you every morning.

She left.

You didn't go see her off?

I don't think I'll see her again.

I thought she wouldn't let you go so easily.

Seven years.

I've known her for seven years.

I want to tell you about my past.

After I got expelled from school, I kept getting chased around by loan sharks.

During that time, I hid when I could, and when I couldn't, I fought them.

Sometimes I thought that they should just kill me.

Until one day...

the cops saved me.

Then I got in with An Ning's husband's people

and stayed with them the whole time...

helping the police investigate from the inside.

At that time, An Ning too was by his side.

But at that time, she was completely clean.

She had nothing to do with the drugs and her life was extremely difficult.

Later on, she got framed and I helped her regain freedom.

After her husband got sent to prison, I accompanied her to the States.

I want to say that in the time we were in America I--

Leave the rest of the story in your heart.

You were lucky to have someone like this by your side when you needed it.

No matter how it ended, the happy thing is...

once upon a time your feelings were genuine, right?

Thank you.

Thank you for understanding me.

It's too late for me to participate in your past...

But I'll be there for your future.

From now on, you can be my robber.
