[Only Side by Side with You]

[Episode 21]

If my son wants to go from being friend to lover...

It won't be easy.

You don't know how to teach your son.

What, do you expect me to do the work?

Forget it.

When the crucial moment comes, the two of us have to be supportive.

I've watched you from your 20s to your 30s.

I thought you'd have matured...

but you're still incapable of keeping your cool.

What is it?

You want to back out now that you've got a girlfriend?

A man without a career is no good.

Someone like me doesn't have the right to a girlfriend.

How did Hao Jie make this happen?

A variety show...

This is a good opportunity for us to get our name out there.

I'll go check it out when I have time and find out more about it.

Yes.

If we could display our drones on this show...

it would be much more effective than advertisements.

Drone aerial photography...

This idea is epic!

You know me well.

Money needs to be made.

But some things... must not be touched.

But An Ning, you've forgotten something.

I'm different from Boss.

If anything happened, I would take full responsibility.

I won't let anything happen to you guys.

- So you intended to... - It's enough that you know.

Keep an eye on this company's construction for me.

You know what I like.

He has never gotten along with Shi Yue.

If he finds out that this company is Shi Yue's...

Shi Yue has been too comfortable as of late.

He needs a new opponent to pin him down.

I don't want to know because I trust you.

You don't need to use other people to test me.

I promise I won't randomly disappear again.

It belongs to us, after all.

Feed it, fatten it up... then swallow it whole.

That's how you prove that you have good taste.

And you wouldn't have gone to Future Up for nothing.

Just consider it...

a huge present from my for my return.

I'm handsome and stylish!

Is this all you people do in the office anymore?

Ethic! Where's your work ethic?

Kui.

Joining a variety show is your personal business.

- Can you not let it affect your work? - I won't, I won't.

Have you edited the subway run video yet?

Well...

How many times have I repeated this?

The focus has to be on the drone's videography ability.

We have to take advantage of this period to do a round of marketing!

Right away. I'll get on it right away.

Considering our relationship, straightforwardness is the best.

What relationship do we have that makes you think that?

You don't think of me as a woman and I don't think of you as a man.

I don't think of you as a woman, is that right?

What part of you is womanly?

That's why I'm asking you for advice.

How do I change?

- Why do you have to change? - For love!

I'm a coward. I just want to keep my son by my side.

Think about it. What do we try so hard out there for?

Isn't it all for them?

I have to die before he does.

To tell the truth, I want him to be sad. I want him to miss me, to think of me.

You're the one messing around with the youngest Nan girl.

Fighting against Future Up is also you.

What does this have to do with me?

This is her ferociousness.

She needs a loyal dog.

Why do you have to treat it like a life-or-death struggle from the start?

You don't know how things will turn out yet.

You're saying...

Use Wings to secretly pave the way for Future Up.

Not secretly, openly.

It's just for an act.

I'm aware...

what kind of relationship Shi Yue and I have.

Don't tell me Boss has really fallen for that chick.

Not just.

It's serious.

We have the resources but we aren't allowed to use it.

What a pity.

Since we're using the subway run and the image of our shareholder...

I think we need to include closeups.

And also add a shot of Shi Yue with the drone.

We have to turn him into a perfect male idol.

Only then is he a good enough match for our drone.

Sure, we need the exposure right now.

But we can't have people believe that flying drones is research.

We're researchers, not drone flyers!

Boss, this way, people are going to think our drones are toys!

Tell me.

Aside from this chance, what other chances do you foresee

for us to show off our drones?

You have to be more proactive, do bigger things, make more surprises...

- Which girl wouldn't like that? - Why are you siding with the other team?

I suggest you pack up your seduction tricks and put them away.

Future Up's future isn't a joke to me.

You don't want the film job to go badly either, right?

An Ning reserved the entire bar.

- She said... - What?

She said it's for you.

You didn't need to call so many people. I could've handled it for you.

An Ning, you've finally come back!

The sky would've fallen down if you hadn't.

I've been with you for so many years.

But this bastard...

He kicked us all out without batting an eye!

He didn't bother showing us any mercy.

President Shi has always called the shots here.

You know that.

- An Ning, Shi-- - Take it up with him.

Don't come to me for everything.

It's annoying.

Who let him in? Why didn't you check who he was?

Ruining my mood...

An Ning!

Hold up.

An Ning.

Everybody take note.

I will make whoever dares disrespect Shi Yue pay ten times over for it.

All these years have passed, but you really haven't changed at all.

Still so handsome.

And with such a great body.

I watched that video.

It made you look very attractive.

But it failed to capture many of your qualities.

I believe I'm the only one privy to these qualities.

You saw the video?

Do you think I'm so old-fashioned that I don't use the Internet?

Of course I'm capable of watching a viral video.

Put this over there.

Boss, it's all here!

- Let's head out then. Where's Kui? - Definitely sleeping in.

If I were the boss, I'd withhold his salary.

Are you trying to usurp me?

Since he's a guest on the show, he's already gone to rehearse.

I wonder what he looks like today.

I specially brought this moisturizer from home

to make him glow.

The science geek takes the stage.

No wonder you still look great even though you never sleep.

- What girl doesn't have a beauty secret? - I'm complimenting you!

Is everyone ready? The cars are here.

What?

You seem really energetic today.

Don't leave yet!

I have an important announcement to make.

Put your stuff down first.

- The cars are already here. - Have them wait a moment.

Just now, VIVE finally agreed to partner with us.

And they were the ones who contacted us!

That's fantastic!

The fact that such a distant company came to us

means you worked really hard. Thanks.

I think it was because the subway run video was so successful.

Plus there's the variety show. They couldn't ignore us if they tried.

It's all thanks to Shi Yue giving us the necessary boost we needed.

- When is the negotiation? - In three days.

Here's what we'll do. You focus on negotiating with VIVE.

I'll bring our team to the show.

We'll make sure everything goes well so it will help your negotiation.

There are still two more days. I'm going to head over with you guys

and then we can discuss how we'll approach the deal.

That works too.

- Let's go! - Come on.

Looks like we've finally got ourselves out of the mud!

This is just the start. There's more to come in the future.

If you steep the tea for too long, its delicate taste will be all gone.

Flower arrangement really is an art.

On the surface, it looks like random arranging.

In reality, it has its rules.

No matter how high or low you place the flower stem...

its roots are still solidly confined in this vase.

Nurturing people works the same way.

As long as you can grasp their lifeblood...

It doesn't matter how many distractions come before them.

It's all just a phase.

What do you think?

Both the flowers and the person belong to you.

I am sure how you handle them depends on your mood.

Besides...

this flower arrangement is already fantastic.

You're right.

I've worked so hard cultivating it.

How could I just give it to someone else?

Where is Shi Yue? With the film crew?

Playing poker.

It's been a while since he last played.

He gathered some of his media contacts.

I believe he's settings things up for Future Up.

Should we give him a hand?

At the very least, we should help him with this act of his.

Future Up plans to enter the VR industry. They're currently negotiating with VIVE.

Should we get our hands on them first?

No need.

It's more devastating to have something you've already gotten

taken away from you.

Then I wouldn't have let Shi Yue out to play for nothing.

I think I know more than anyone else how much longer you can keep this up.

Lao'er!

Good boy!

Do you think they're starting to like me more?

Mr. Hao, you just need to focus on these flowers of yours.

Don't concern yourself with other things.

Don't worry about them! I'm fully dedicated to them.

I'd be so heartbroken if they died.

Then take them away!

When people see so many flowers in my store from outside...

they probably think this is a flower market.

What about you?

What about me?

Do you like having me here too?

I'm not good at saying no to people.

What are you good at then?

I'm good at neutering dogs and sewing people's mouths shut.

I'm afraid you might regret that and not have the heart to unstitch it.

Why isn't Xiao Bai here yet? Their Bedlington terrier is sick again.

Call me Assistant Hao from now on.

I... personally love the indifferent attitude you show me.

And the way you don't chase me out.

Should I take Lao'er to Shi Yue later?

Should we go together?

Nan Qiao will be there too!

Do you get the feeling that we're like a family on a weekend outing?

I don't have the genes to produce this kind of son.

Then we'll produce whatever kind of children you have the genes for!

What are you saying?

I'm saying... having children...

Just drive.

Sure.

I didn't expect our negotiation with VIVE to go so well!

Variety shows are so popular now.

Our participation was basically a huge promotion opportunity for us!

Who was it that was too proud for it in the beginning?

Xiao An, come to set with me later.

- I have some stuff to confirm with Boss. - Okay.

I wonder how Boss is doing by herself on set.

Look.

She's been working so hard day and night.

You see?

She's more accomplished and hardworking than you.

That's how geniuses are made.

You two...

A snake and its victim. You guys are a great match.

Maybe you guys should date on the show in Kui's name.

- I wouldn't want to marry him! - As if I'd want you to.

Hold up. What do you mean? Why wouldn't you?

Explain yourself! You're not going home until you explain!

I'm living the brutal life of a shark's prey every single day!

Marry you?

- I don't plan on dying yet! - This is called tough love, understand?

Move it!

Explain yourself, otherwise you're not going home, you hear me?

Where are you going? Where do you think you're going?

I'm not going home today. Your stop isn't along the way, so bye!

- Driver, let's go! - Not going home? Then where--

President Wen, did you drive here?

I'm taking Line 11.

That works for me.

Where do you think she's going?

You two are really...

Shi Yue.

This month's liquor and employee expenses.

The bar's business gets worse every day that you aren't there.

I don't think your feelings for Nan Qiao are just that.

I don't know what you're talking about.

Feelings just implies a passing interest.

It's just lust at most.

But from what I've observed lately, you're not just interested in her.

You're in love with her.

Either way, what does it have to do with you?

How is it not my business?

I'm going to lecture you if you talk like that.

If lust is about impulsivity and instinct...

Love is about how dependent you are on your feelings for her.

I only care for conclusions based on logic and evidence.

Fine. Let me put it this way then.

The first time you met her, in that garage...

We'll call that lust.

But then the moving, the investing, the shareholding...

That's evidence of you moving towards love.

So my conclusion--

My conclusion...

is if you still fail to reach quota for this month...

Then you can stop coming here and stop going into work.

I got it.

I'll stop coming.

We're finally done for today. I'm going to take a break later.

- Let's go. Need any help? - It's okay. Good work everyone!

I'll treat you all to a meal!

It's a deal! We have to eat something good this time.

Let's go to the food stall we usually go to!

Chang, you really know how to save Boss money.

- Do you guys smell something? - What?

- No. - My wristband is charging in there!

- Fire, fire! - Get the fire extinguisher!

- Fire extinguisher! - Get the fire extinguisher!

Let go of me!

Okay, okay.

- You can't go in there! - My wristband, my wristband!

- I'll go get it! - Chang! Chang!

[Qie Hao]

Have you been busy?

Yes, I have.

Future Up has been working on a variety show lately.

I have to supervise the filming.

You said so yourself.

If you want to swallow it, it's better to fatten it up first.

I made an appointment with the owner of a site for extreme sports videos.

They're in the conference room. You should go meet them.

A client at this hour?

All right.

Agree to all their terms no matter what they are.

Problems?

The website's purchase price is ten.

They want twenty.

Money isn't an issue.

Time is what's important.

I forgot.

Money is the least of your issues.

You want to fatten up Future Up for Nan Qiao.

So I naturally have to strengthen up Wings for you.

[Future Up CEO Nan Qiao, Future Up Investor Shi Yue]

We have our people in the audience.

Shi Yue put a lot of effort into getting Future Up in the film industry.

Chasing girls, you know...

Half of it is empty flattery and the other half is genuine actions.

Zhao Yu Qing has signed the papers.

- Take me to Lucid Dream. - Let me ready the car.

There was a fire? How come no one told me?

Why didn't anyone stop Chang Jian Xiong that crazy man?

What happened? Tell me everything.

Tell me!

Chang Jian Xiong this, Chang Jian Xiong that.

Why aren't you asking about me if you already know someone got hurt?

You must be fine since you're sitting here watching Shi Yue's video.

Love can fix all the problems of a woman in a relationship.

I knew that I should've just called him instead of asking you.

Aren't you going to ask where I'm going?

Aren't you going up to the deck to do a flight test?

Even the fiercest, strongest woman gets distracted when she's in love.

Boss, you're finally admitting to being a devil incarnate.

Shi Yue.

- He seems strange. - He's fine.

The one he loves isn't with him. He's obviously going to be upset.

If you ask me, he's making a fuss over nothing.

This highly-successful bar is his.

The money-making Future Up is also his.

He even has An Ning supporting him. What else does he want?

If it were me, I'd be smiling even in my sleep.

Don't bring An Ning up in front of him. It's taboo right now.

Of course.

Shi Yue is with Nan Qiao. An Ning is just something of the past.

If those two run into each other... just the thought of that scares me.

But we have to be honest. An Ning is good to Shi Yue.

You weren't here then. An Ning threw down this glass.

She sent out this threat.

"If anyone dares show Shi Yue disrespect, I will make them pay ten times over."

Speak of the devil.

An Ning.

- Is Shi Yue around? - Yeah, I'll take you to him.

You should take An Ning to the guest room.

I'll call Shi Yue for you.

It's Hao Jie, right?

That's right, Madam An.

Don't be such a stranger. Just call me An Ning like Shi Yue does.

Wings will need your support in the future.

I'll be awaiting good news from the two of you.

You can leave me. I'll go find him on my own.

"If anyone dares show Shi Yue disrespect, I will make them pay ten times over."

It's not as simple as that.

An Ning herself has given Shi Yue full control.

He has all the freedom now. Isn't that a good thing?

Control and obligation always come hand in hand.

The obligation is to make money. That's a piece of cake for Shi Yue.

Making money for An Ning is the most difficult thing.

What do you mean?

What saves you is also capable of killing you.

What the hell?

I got it, I got it! I've bought the snacks and the drinks!

I'll reply immediately! Geez.

Wendy!

Aren't you going to the office?

You're one step too late. Xiao Qiao has already gone to VIVE.

If you run that way, you might be able to catch up.

Why are you following me?

You aren't trying to play hard to get, are you?

You don't have the skills!

You're not going to follow up on your act and nip things in the bud?

I came to find you. Are you that eager to get rid of me?

It was impressive.

Word of your heroic act is all over the office.

I'd intended to teach you how to create danger when there isn't any...

but who knew such a perfect opportunity would turn up?

Is this move considered saving the damsel in distress?

So you came to find me to figure out what to do next?

I came to end our mentor-disciple relationship.

Hey...

What's going on?

I saw how desperate Nan Qiao was to get that wristband from the fire.

That's the only way she communicates with Shi Yue.

Actually, that wristband can connect all of our products--

That's not the perpetually rational Nan Qiao we know.

Even if she's made of iron, she still gets scared sometimes.

Maybe the fire was too sudden and she got scared--

That was the Nan Qiao that's in love with Shi Yue.

So you plan on giving up?

I came to find you first.

Chang Jian Xiong, have you thought this through?

I'm done going after her

because I've already completely given up.

Being upset and giving up don't necessarily go together.

If you've really given up, okay. I won't say any more.

- But if you're just upset-- - I just want Nan Qiao to be happy.

I want her to love who she wants and do what she wants.

Have you heard the rumors about Shi Yue?

I hear some gossip here and there. But he won't let Nan Qiao get hurt.

He promised me.

But I don't understand why Shi Yue keeps avoiding Nan Qiao.

Because he's genuinely fallen in love with her.

Since you both love her, then all the more reason to fight fairly.

There is no "fair" between us.

The life that came so easily to me...

took him seven years of excruciating effort to gain.

Do you feel secure handing Xiao Qiao over to him?

I've been making the decision for her all this time.

This time...

I'm backing out.

I don't get you guys at all.

You guys fought so badly before and now you're making way for each other.

I don't know what happened between the two of you.

Even if something happened in the past, the present should have to pay the price.

You know so much. You should take your own advice sometime.

Me...

What would I teach myself?

Everyone knows Wendy's life is great.

I have money, I have friends, and I have loads of suitors.

- But in reality? - In reality...

I enjoy my single life.

You don't have to act strong.

Everyone says I'm really strong.

You're the only who says I don't have to be.

I thought you'd be at the office.

I got tired.

You're right. This place really makes you feel calm.

I'm surprised that in all the times you've remodeled the outside...

this place is still the same as always.

In the beginning, the most beautiful place in the bar was this cellar.

This is the only room I refuse to change.

Has any other woman come here before?

No.

I saved a bottle of wine here when Lucid Dream opened.

Your bottle of wine should still be over there.

Let me grab it for you.

No need.

Leave it there.

I hope... that in another 10 or 20 years...

I will still be able to see that bottle of wine hidden there by you.

Sometimes old friends are just strangers...

while new friends seem like old acquaintances.

When you said that to me back then...

I didn't really understand.

Now I do.

And only now do I understand the weight of these words.

I will remember the life you gave back to me for the rest of my life.

How much of what you feel is gratitude and how much is love?

You're dressed like you have something important going on.

I'll pick out a bottle of wine for you.

Since this is a reunion of friends and I have good news to share...

we should indeed open a bottle of wine.

Does this bottle suit a reunion of old friends?

You should be asking me what the good news is.

If the old friend you speak of is me, and there's good news to be told...

This bottle... should be opened right now.

My treat.

I'm divorced.

I came here to tell you as soon as he signed the papers.

When?

I requested the papers to be drawn before I came back.

Shi Yue.

You're the only person I can stop being Madam An around.

I'm very sorry that you once had to watch me go away.

Now I've returned.

You're still here, right?

I suddenly remembered I have somewhere else to be.

Save the wine. I'll drink it next time.

- Some things-- - We'll have lots of time to drink it.

This time... I don't intend to leave.

Everybody take note.

Whomever dares show Shi Yue disrespect, I will make them pay ten times over.

Shi Yue, playtime is over. It's time to return.

You really haven't changed in all the years you've been with me.

But this determination is what I like about you.

Don't lose it.

I used to be impetuous and caused a lot of problems.

Now I'm different.

It's time to act seriously.

You want to change?

- As for Future Up... - Stay there.

Not only must you stay there, you have to help it succeed.

Make it big. Make it successful.

It belongs to us, after all.

Feed it, fatten it up... then swallow it whole.

That's the only way you can prove that you have good taste.

And you wouldn't have gone to Future Up for no reason.

Just consider it...

A huge gift for you commemorating my return.

What do you think?

I've told you before that I'll play with you if you want.

Swallowing it whole is even easier.

It's just that I keep thinking...

You know her father and you know her family.

There might be personal dignities involved.

Why aren't you sparing them some dignity?

How do you propose I do that?

Competition within the same industry is expected.

Besides...

The one messing around with the Nan family's youngest child is you.

The one going against Future Up is also you.

What does it have to do with me?

Why was she here? Does she have something new planned?

She came to get a bottle of wine.

What wine? She needed to come to the cellar in person?

What answer from my lips will satisfy you?
