[The Night is Still Young]

[Episode 2]

Shangguan Weiyang, the daughter of General Zhenyuan,

is virtuous and dignified, gentle and benevolent.

[Imperial Edict]

She is hereby officially betrothed to King Yan, Ye Beichen.

They shall be married in three months

[Imperial Edict]

as per the imperial command.

I accept the decree.

Weiyang.

Weiyang?

Father.

Father.

How can it be King Yan?

Why would the Emperor arrange a marriage between King Yan and me?

His Highness, King Yan, has arrived!

What?

Miss Shangguan, do you want to defy the imperial decree?

Your Highness, what is the meaning of this?

General Shangguan,

His Highness has personally come to

deliver betrothal gifts to Miss Shangguan.

Isn't it rather hasty

to deliver the betrothal gifts today?

Carry all the betrothal gifts inside!

[Wedding]

Why did His Majesty suddenly arrange a marriage between you and me?

Are you behind this?

Brother,

the Fifth Prince was originally in charge of the fireworks display.

Now that there has been an incident with the fireworks,

he still managed to protect you flawlessly.

Don't you find it suspicious?

Now, you've put him in charge of investigating this case.

Aren't you afraid he might be the thief crying, "Stop thief!"?

Mingxuan is frequently involved in romantic affairs

and lacks great ambitions.

General Shangguan commands powerful troops.

If you were to grant him a reward,

he would seize the opportunity to ask for Shangguan Weiyang's hand in marriage.

Moreover,

he has already gained

the reputation of meritorious service in protecting you.

If he were to gain the support of the Shangguan's army,

who can say that the court's power wouldn't shift in his favor?

Brother,

the allure of becoming Crown Prince

can drive people to any lengths.

It seems now

that arranging a marriage between Mingxuan and Shangguan Weiyang

is not the best strategy either.

I have a solution

that can solve your troubles, Brother.

Let's hear it.

Let Shangguan Weiyang be my bride.

Mingxuan is your nephew,

and I am your niece-in-law.

You know that we are in love,

yet you insist on breaking us apart.

Aren't you afraid of being ridiculed by the world?

The person I want,

I always get.

The truth about the fireworks case

will eventually come to light.

Your triumph won't last long.

Indeed, it won't be long.

His Majesty has already ordered me to investigate this case.

In the last life,

he used this case

to frame my father and have him imprisoned through Vice General Wang.

Now, he wants to harm my father

and force me into marriage—

all for our family's military power.

He won't succeed.

I won't give you the chance to twist the truth.

I'm going to the palace to see the Emperor now.

Step aside.

What did you say?

Do you also intend to fight for the throne?

The military tally?

The late Emperor himself bestowed this upon me.

It allows me to command the armies of the country.

If I, Ye Beichen, harbored treasonous ambitions,

I would have acted on them long ago.

Brother,

I'll wait for your imperial edict.

Weiyang,

you must not be disrespectful to His Highness.

Yue.

Your Highness,

since you want to marry my daughter,

there must be a formal exchange of birth details

and the giving of bridal gifts.

Moreover...

How could I be lacking in etiquette?

General, there's no need to worry.

If that's the case,

Your Highness, please, let us discuss this inside.

Escort the young lady back to her room.

Yes.

The only solution now

is to find the evidence of Vice General Wang's

collusion with Ye Beichen as soon as possible.

Only then can I turn the tables

and cancel the engagement.

[Jinxiu Cloth Shop]

Mingxuan.

Weiyang.

I passed by the Divine Pastry Shop

and happened to catch freshly baked chestnut cakes.

Eat them while they’re still warm.

Even at a time like this,

you still remember that I like chestnut cakes.

Does being good to you need to depend on the timing?

Weiyang,

don't worry about our marriage.

Though I am the least powerful and influential

among my brothers,

even if I have to kneel before Father's palace for a year,

or even ten,

I will plead until he agrees to let me marry you.

Oh, right, Mingxuan,

I once smelled a scent

at Vice General Wang's house.

It was identical to the smell of the fireworks from the family banquet.

If we can find him

and find out whether Ye Beichen is behind this,

you won't be implicated.

We can also use this to cancel my engagement with him.

If that's the case,

I'll go to Vice General Wang's house to look for clues.

I'll go with you.

Okay.

[Wang's Mansion]

How could this happen?

We've caught you red-handed.

What else do you have to say for yourself now?

Mingxuan.

Fifth Prince,

first you set up a trap to gain merit in front of the Emperor,

and now you've come to kill the culprit.

Are you trying to destroy the evidence?

Uncle, do you have any evidence?

Framing a prince is a serious crime.

Ye Beichen,

why did you come here so quickly?

I see now.

It's clear that you first forced Wang Ming to his death,

then laid in wait to trap

and frame us.

I am here under imperial orders to investigate the case.

Any clues related to the fireworks case

are under my control.

You cannot cover up everything.

I'll definitely find evidence that you framed Mingxuan.

You had a hand in Wang Ming's death, too.

Come back to my mansion for further questioning.

If you dare confine me to your mansion,

I will never reconcile with you.

Let go of Weiyang. She has nothing to do with this.

Chu Mo,

escort the Fifth Prince back to his residence,

-detain him there, -Weiyang.

-and wait for interrogation. -Let go of me.

Weiyang?

Let me go. Let me go.

Weiyang!

[King Yan's Mansion]

Let go of me.

Ye Beichen,

you pretended to hand over the military tally,

but everyone knows

that the 200,000 Yan soldiers only obey you, King Yan.

You’ve gone to such lengths to marry me,

just to gain our family's power

to boost your chances in the fight for the throne.

Knowing too much

won't end well for you.

Too bad.

Our Shangguan family has been loyal for generations.

We will never associate with treacherous villains.

You'd better stay obediently in my mansion.

Do you really think your mere mansion

can hold me?

You're a suspect now.

Escaping would only add to your crimes.

If you want to find a reason to blame, there's always one to be found.

Mingxuan and I are clearly innocent.

I don't want to hear

the name "Mingxuan" come from your lips again.

Whose name I call

is none of your business.

Your Highness!

Your Highness.

From now on,

you are the Queen Yan.

You'll have nothing to do with Ye Mingxuan anymore.

News from the palace:

After His Majesty learned

that the Fifth Prince had something to do with Vice General Wang's death,

his condition worsened due to anger,

leaving him bedridden.

What are His Majesty's symptoms?

They say His Majesty has difficulty breathing, along with purple lips,

weakness, and occasional confusion.

I remember once...

Your Majesty! Your Majesty!

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, you've been poisoned with Gu worms!

Your Majesty.

I have found important clues.

The King Yan has been secretly raising Gu worms.

It appears

King Yan is behind this.

Now that we have the imperial decree of marriage,

even if I escape from his mansion, it's useless.

If I can get hold of the Gu worms he's raising,

it'll be enough to prove that he has the intention to rebel.

Then, I can completely annul the engagement.

I can't believe

he has such a place in the back mountain.

Ye Beichen, don't be so smug.

Sooner or later, you'll fall into my hands.

Very well.

I'll wait for the day I die by your hand.

Let go of me!

-Let go of me! -Don’t move.

I've got the Gu worms now.

Ye Beichen,

let's see how you can harm the Emperor now.

[King Yan's Mansion]

King Yan, please come out and talk!

Father-in-law, you visit late at night.

What brings you here?

Your Highness, I don't dare

to be called "father-in-law" by you.

My daughter hasn't officially married you yet.

It's inappropriate for her to stay in your mansion for long.

Your Highness, please

allow me to take my daughter back to our home.

Wang Ming, the suspect in the fireworks case, has been killed.

Shangguan Weiyang's suspicion hasn't been cleared.

If she doesn't want to be questioned in my mansion,

then she will have to face trial at the Court of Judicial Review.

If that's the case,

then I will wait here.

When Weiyang's name is cleared,

I'll take her back as soon as that happens.

Father!

Weiyang?

My dear daughter.

Father.

My conscience is clear, so I have nothing to fear from these accusations.

Weiyang,

don't be afraid.

If you don't want to stay in King Yan's mansion,

I'll risk my life

to get you out of here.

Father.

Please return home for now.

I believe

the truth

will come to light soon.

Okay.

My good daughter,

I'll do as you say.

I'll go back now.

Take good care of yourself.

Don't worry, Father.

Father,

this is evidence of Ye Beichen's plot to harm His Majesty.

He is full of cunning schemes.

We must be wary of him intercepting it.

In my opinion,

it's best to make a feint to the east and attack in the west.

How did you get in here?

This is my room.

What's wrong with me being here?

We're not married yet.

How can we share a room?

Blood?

I've received news

that General Shangguan was ambushed and nearly killed.

How could my father have been attacked?

That's what happens when someone possesses something valuable.

It was you.

You knew that I gave the Gu worms to my father.

He was going to see the Emperor tonight

to submit evidence of your plot against His Majesty.

So, you wanted to silence him.

Ye Beichen,

I'll fight you to the death!
