who get to compete

I have wanted this for so long.

it's been 16 seasons

since I've been back
on The Challenge,

and making it possibly
to a final is insane.

And I couldn't be
more proud of myself.

sharing a bedroom.

Cara and I hated each other,

and now we are at a point
where we are sharing a villa.

As much as I love these people

and we've become a family,
I'm tired of them.

Tired of competing with them.
I'm tired of living with them.

Let's get to this final
and get it going.

MICHELE:
I've been through the mud,

slogging through this game,

and now I'm in paradise.

I know that we are on
the doorstep of the final,

and so I just want to keep
this positive trajectory,

headed to that final.

BANANAS: This is what
I fought for all season.

Now I feel like
I'm also fighting

even harder for Jenny and Rachel
to see this thing through.

BANANAS: I want to make it
to a final, and I want to win,

but I also still

want other people
to not make it there.

I don't want to see Tori
and Michele go into

whatever the next phase
of this game is.

Being a part of the final nine
of season 40 is huge.

It took a lot for all of us
to sit here at this table.

I think we're just gonna
put some differences aside

and just kind of reflect on...

everything we've
just been through.

BANANAS: You look thirsty.

KYLAND: Favorite moment
from the season, guys.

BANANAS:
Um, okay, when Devin

was every time

that I got to make

I think, like,
for so many of the past seasons,

it's felt like
a big group of people

have been running the game,

and this time around,
it felt like

it was like a big fight
between a bunch of people.

Well, no, no, no.
You were the machine

on the other side that we had
to fucking fight against.

That was happening.

It was always bound
to be this way.

We operate differently,
I suppose.

Yeah.

We're skirting around
what it is, right?

- Which is what?
- We're talking about the way
it all broke down,

which is the fracture
that happened when Devin left.

And you were on one side,
we were on the other.

And we didn't have to be.

MICHELE:

From my side, it was me just,

to have his back.

If this was a season

where we had just gotten
to know each other,

I wouldn't care.

But we have been
in these situations

so many fucking times.

JORDAN: I got to say,
it's kind of hard

to listen to Bananas
play victim after 22 seasons,

seven wins, the biggest spoon
of any pot stirrer.

You're either on Michele
and Tori's side or you're not.

You can't have Bananas' Angels,
and everyone else, too.

So, yeah, get over it.

CARA MARIA:
Johnny. Like,

you're the guy
that's still justifying

taking the money from Sarah
in the final.

The fact that he's playing
a victim to Michele and Tori?

I just hope going forward,

we just leave this where it is.

I had more

and I could potentially get out

if I play my cards right.

On this season of The Challenge
40: Battle of the Eras.

Congratulations, Derek.

As the winner
of the elimination, you had

to select three women
to become the new targets.

You chose Cara Maria,
Rachel and Jenny.

So that being said, gentlemen,

all four of you...

...are in the final.

MICHELE:
I know that this is

the absolute last obstacle
that I will have to overcome.

It's just me,

and this "W"

standing between me

and walking into the final.

However,

if you lose today, men,

you will be assessed a penalty

JORDAN:
There's two steps to becoming
a Challenge champion.

Step one-- make the final.

Step two-- win the final.

Starting the final
in last place,

you're gonna be
at a real disadvantage.

This is not the time to lose.

KYLAND: Finals are hard enough,
from everything I've heard.

The last thing I want to do is
have anything holding me back.

So performing well
in this last challenge

just became more important
than ever.

Women, all you have
to do is win today,

and you're in the final,
as well.

Today's challenge is
called "Fortress Bricks."

Now, here's how it's gonna work.

You will all race
as fast as you can up top

of this 18th-century
Spanish fortress,

where there are
solving stations.

Once you have claimed a station,
you will then start

bringing bricks
all the way down, two at a time.

Once you bring down four bricks,

you can bring back up

a plank.

One plank to every four bricks.
You're going to continue

this process
until you've brought down

all 40 bricks
and brought up all ten planks.

Then, you're gonna
start building that puzzle.

Fastest man, fastest woman
will win today's challenge

and secure their spot
in the final.

Cara Maria, you're gonna be
assessed a penalty

for this challenge,

since you lost
the last challenge.

Your penalty is three minutes.

That will be assessed
after the challenge.

That is
a significant disadvantage.

But I do know

that today's challenge
is gonna be a grind.

But there's something

that the last challenge

when I finished at the top
of this fortress castle thing.

If there's one thing I know,

it's castles are my jam.

TJ:

an absolute slog

to a final.

Kyland setting the pace.

When I won my last championship,

I have the opportunity, I want

And once we carry four bricks
down, we're able to take a plank

up to the fortress again and
put it in our solving station.

There's gonna be
ten different planks

that have a puzzle on 'em,
and once we have

all of our planks up there,

we can start
building the puzzle.

BANANAS:

TJ:

Not even necessarily

I don't know
what the hell this guy's doing.

It's come down to me and Derek.

So hopefully, Derek

struggles a little bit
with this puzzle

because I don't want to be

entering my first final
with a penalty.

to see who comes last place.

And literally,
if Kyland has a disadvantage,

that would be good for my game.

and she could still lose.

of Michele, so I feel like

put the puzzle together,

and I'll be fine.

this entire season,

for everybody here.

I'm really thankful for my
journey so far in this season.

For standing my ground

For being able
to help Michele see

the things that
she's going through,

which are the same things
that I went through,

and for making friends and
for putting aside differences

and for standing my ground
against Laurel

that we can finish our story

I do feel like I have

this new sense of confidence,

I am aware of how good Cara is.

here's the final boss"?

This is the final boss.

I do feel like,
in some sick way,

this is important for Cara and I

because this is, hopefully,
the end of a vicious cycle

that will never come back.

And from this point on,

that we can be friends.

I think that Cara has been

in defense mode for a lot
of her Challenge career,

but this season she's made

and cultivated friendships
that have kind of

allowed her
to blossom in this game,

and I love to see it.

I think that she thinks
that she just needs

to compete, compete, compete,
have her back

against the wall, battle,
the world against Cara.

And I love

that she's coming into her own

and having fun.

Allowing Cara to be herself

and show herself
is such a joy to watch.

CARA MARIA:
I didn't expect any of this.

I came in at the beginning
of the season

not really knowing where I am.

so that we can really bury
the hatchet.

that I might have wished
for something that

I wasn't really prepared for.

This was the hardest elimination
I've ever been in in my life.
