Wait.

Unlock it.

He's dead.

What?

He died?

The Governor of Taikang was involved in the Sangbo Case.

I was one step too late when I

went to question him earlier.

He had been killed.

Lord Wei said he was important.

What's the cause of death?

It's unknown yet.

The coroner is doing an autopsy.

The prime suspect in the case died in our prison,

but I have nothing to do with his death.

Sir,

our office will assist you with the case.

You can command

the Three Branches and Six Boards.

The Governor of Taikang's death in jail

is an accident.

It's not your fault.

Thank you, sir.

You're welcome.

Caiwei said yesterday,

you also did me a huge favor

in the Ministry of Justice.

That was nothing.

So is this now.

Alright then.

I shall

take my leave.

Thank you for coming.

Sorry for troubling you.

I'll walk you out.

(Noble Character)

Thanks for coming all the way here.

No need.

I barely did anything.

So, the poems...

You'll receive them as promised.

When you cast the Heart Spell,

I saw you burn a page.

Forgive my ignorance.

I've never seen such a divine spell before.

How does it work?

Our academy made this spell book.

It records the spells unique to the Academy.

It's a rarity.

Burn it

and you can use

the spell on each page.

I see.

I didn't know there was such a thing.

I'm sorry,

but I can't give you the poems anytime soon.

I have a case to solve,

and my rank is low.

I'm afraid I can't write poems

for a long while.

How about I make you a spell book

to help you

improve your skills?

That'd be perfect.

And

the poems?

No problem.

Of course.

Take care, Master.

Chief.

I heard the Governor of Taikang died in jail.

What did Chen Hanguang say?

Read the autopsy report.

No trauma or poison.

He died quietly and mysteriously.

Caiwei questioned those guarding the jail at night.

All of them are clean.

It further confirmed

that the Governor did die

in his sleep that night.

He was killed in sleep.

What's on your mind?

I heard the Yin Spirit

of the Three Sects could do that.

The Three Sects?

(If they did it,)

(Mr. Jinlian would've been tipped off.)

Or

only that race could do so.

Wizards.

Wizards?

Follow me.

Do you know The Witcher's Sect?

Uncle Pingzhi told me about it,

saying The Witcher was beyond all ranks.

Did he

build this sect?

The Witcher is worshiped by all the northern states.

His sect holds supreme power in the North,

just like the Tianyu Sect in the West.

scuffles broke out between General Zhenxi and that sect.

2,000 elite troops

died quietly in the barracks overnight.

No wounds were found on them.

They all died in their sleep,

including General Zhenxi.

Since then,

Yunzhou has become no-man's land.

Bandits are everywhere.

Disasters never end.

According to the information from our scouts,

it's likely to have become

that sect's stronghold in the Dafeng.

If Yunzhou is also involved in this case,

the situation will be more complicated.

I have a feeling.

The end of the Gengzi Year

will be the start of chaos!

Alright. That's enough.

You're making me confused.

Our job is to solve cases.

Don't be so dramatic.

Where are you going, Ningyan?

Seize Zhou Chixiong.

(Yunzhou, Command Office)

Yang Gong is in town.

I see.

What to do?

(Yang Chuannan, Commander of Yunzhou)

What do you mean?

(Li Miaozhen) You know that.

(No. 2 of Realm Sect)

(4th Rank of Heaven) He'll take away your power.

The rule is the rule.

I'll follow it.

Can't you see

the Emperor appointed him Commissioner of Qingzhou

in case you take all power into your hands?

Qingzhou and Yunzhou are governed together.

The Commissioner of Qingzhou manages Yunzhou, too.

Yang Gong,

well, I heard he was

from the Yunlu Academy.

He took his student's poem before leaving.

I bet he's also of the greedy sort,

coming here for merits and power.

The Dafeng is

full of such pests.

What's your plan then?

Just say the word.

I'll finish him.

We can't act rashly.

I'm sick of your cowardice!

Emperor Yuanjing should die!

Miaozhen!

What's wrong?

I'm not his official.

Miss Winged Woman,

your actions

of suppressing bandits

and exterminating evil

have made Yunzhou safe.

I thank you on behalf of the locals.

However,

rules are rules.

I'm a court official after all.

I shall

abide by them.

Where are you going?

This room reeks of bureaucracy.

I need fresh air.

(Just and Stern)

- General Li. - Yes?

Another chief is rising

in the 80-li Bandits' Lair.

They're looting and robbing

even more rampantly.

Keep gathering information.

Once the time's ripe,

gather our troops to wipe them out.

Yes!

- Go. - Let's go.

You're out so soon, Master.

(Su Su, Heaven Sect)

I'm mad.

Look at you

coughing again.

This is a mountainous area.

Don't catch a cold.

(Cold Medicine)

I know.

Are you mad at Yang Chuannan again?

Court officials are too cautious.

You only serve under him as a Calvary General

for your friendship.

If he makes you mad,

just quit.

But in all of Yunzhou,

he's the only official who supports us

to exterminate bandits.

It's all that stupid emperor's fault.

Guys,

more bad news from the capital.

(No. 2) What happened?

Did Emperor Yuanjing die?

When the Inner and Outer Cities

were put on lockdown,

I knew something bad happened.

No. 1,

did you hear anything?

(Interesting.)

(Mr. Jinlian)

(isn't asking me, a Guardian,)

(but asking No. 1 instead.)

The explosion at Sangbo

destroyed the Ancestral Temple.

The thing sealed in the lake

(No. 1) is missing.

No. 3,

do you know anything?

I do.

The Academy got some leads

via their private channels,

enough to put together the situation.

(No. 7, No. 8, No. 9, No. 1, No. 3)

(No. 6, No. 7, No. 8, No. 1)

(No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 5)

Kui did it?

No way.

How did they blow up that place?

Investigation shows

Kui got Yanxiao from Mount Dahuang,

turned it into gunpowder,

and smuggled it into the Inner City with Zhou Chixiong's help

to explode Sangbo.

After the explosion,

Zhou fled with his family.

(No. 1) So that's a dead end.

Not exactly.

I believe

the court will make him a wanted man soon.

Either he'll leave the Dafeng,

or he'll hide in a safe place.

Where do you think he'll go?

Obviously,

he'll go to Yunzhou.

No. 2,

(No. 1) you're well-connected there.

Can you help me find Zhou Chixiong?

(Nice!)

(Looks like No. 1 trusts No. 2)

(more than the government.)

I won't.

I'll pay you.

No.

You serve the court.

I will not help you.

(No. 1)

(This is bad.)

(Without No. 2's help)

(how can we)

(find Zhou Chixiong in the vast Yunzhou?)

No. 2,

you owe me for helping No. 6 out.

Does your promise stand?

Of course.

I, Li Miaozhen, is a woman of my word.

Fine.

Keep an eye on Zhou if he's in Yunzhou.

Then we're even.

As for No. 1,

(No. 1) you owe me now.

What do you say?

Deal.

(No. 1) Deal.

(Haoqi Tower)

(Rule With Virtue)

(The Witcher's Sect...)

(General Zhenxi died in his sleep, too.)

Lord Wei, Xu Qi'an is here.

Greetings, Lord Wei.

Yesterday morning, in court,

I caught sight of the progress you made.

You're doing well in the case.

You're too busy to be disturbed.

I didn't want to trouble you.

Zhou Chixiong is wanted by the court now.

(Insignia Guard, Baihu)

(Zhou Chixiong) But

it's hard to find him in 15 days.

Do you have other ideas?

I believe

he's likely to flee to Yunzhou,

so

I've asked No. 2 there to seize him.

Yunzhou?

It's worth trying.

But the water there is deeper than you think.

It takes time to find him.

You have a point, sir.

Have you considered tracking down

his weapon?

His weapon?

His energy was concealed.

Even those of the Bureau didn't sense it.

That means two things.

First,

the one who cast the spell is high-ranking.

Second,

Zhou must have

an energy-concealing weapon.

Check his household registration.

He's merely 8th Rank.

(Lord Wei's been helping me in secret.)

Father, the carriage is outside.

I'm going to the Palace.

Xu Qi'an,

come along.

Leave the court

for the outside world?

Yes.

You don't belong to the court

but to the outside world.

Hadn't it been for the Sangbo Case,

you would've

left the capital by now as I planned.

If you fail to solve this case,

you

can be the Guardians' informer

and my weapon

in the shadow.

How about that?

Do you find it unfair?

As long as I can live on,

I'll be a slave,

Being in the shadow is tough.

Informers have to hide their identities

Greetings, Lord Wei.

Greetings.

This is

the handler of the Sangbo Case, Xu Qi'an.

I have to trouble you

to take him to greet the Grand Princess.

No trouble at all.

Grand Princess?

The Imperial Library in the Palace

keeps records of various weapons.

Grand Princess can

grant you access to them.

Yes.

The contest is today.

Did you sleep well last night, Princess?

I slept soundly.

When we came to the lake before,

the Loong would surface to play with us.

Where is it now?

I've been watching the lake for a while.

It's been utterly quiet.

You probably don't know.

Since the Sangbo Ceremony,

the Loong has been uneasy.

That day,

it surfaced and roared

and then dived into the water.

However hard Father tried,

it refused to resurface

or go anywhere near royalty again.

Without the Loong,

why hold the contest here?

It's far from my place.

What a bummer!

Have you memorized them all?

Don't worry.

I've memorized the poems

and the stories behind them.

I can't wait to shine at the contest

and bring Huaiqing down...

Greetings, Princes.

Your Highness.

The Poetry Contest is coming.

We're having a rehearsal today.

Thanks for coming from the Directorate of Education to host it.

It's my honor.

My pleasure.

I'm eager to see the elegant Dafeng royalty.

So

you're Princess Huaiqing's private eunuch.

Why have I never seen you before?

I've always been in the Palace,

and I seldom go out.

Well,

I manage the affairs for Her Highness

in the Palace.

Forgive me

if I overstep the line

by asking you this.

Aren't you Princess Lin'an's kept...?

What?

I mean

as Princess Lin'an's trusted man,

you remain

close to Princess Huaiqing.

What if

Princess Lin'an finds out?

So what if she knows?

Ningyan,

you really are bold.

But how are you going to explain to her?

Explain what?

Come on!

Why should I explain to her?

I knew she meant to recruit me,

but I'm a man of loyalty.

I only serve Princess Huaiqing.

Lin'an

should know that.

Please.

You really are extraordinary.

Thanks. I'm flattered.

We can't help but look at him.

(Even those in the Palace know me.)

What's there to look at?

Have you never seen a man?

We've seen men,

but not

a kept man.

Yes.

He's Princess Lin'an's kept man, no less.

(Lin'an's telling everyone I'm her kept man.)

(Is that to sow discord between me and Grand Princess?)

(Grand Princess must've heard such rumors, too.)

Luckily, you acted in time.

Xu Qi'an is a strong rival.

Don't you think

Three years.

Even I had to wait one year and four months.

But it's only been three months

since he joined us.

He's to Lord Wei's taste.

I'm not surprised.

So is Li Yuchun.

No.

There must be other reasons.

Where's Xu Qi'an from?

Why ask?

Do you still want to be Lord Wei's relative?

Tell me now.

Say it.

Xu's from the capital,

far away from Lord Wei's hometown.

They aren't fellow townsmen.

Are you sure they aren't?

Yes, I'm sure.

Are you tired?

Xu Qi'an,

Yes, I guess.

Did you go to the Imperial Library?

Not yet.

Did you see the Grand Princess?

Yes, sort of.

You saw her but didn't go to the Library.

Why did you come out?

I have no idea either.

and said a few words,

Ningyan,

Grand Princess asked to see you.

Your Highness,

it's your turn.

The last word of the line should

be "water".

It can be a bit tricky.

What's wrong, Your Highness?

None of the lines from Xu Qi'an

end with the word "water".

Then

what to do?

Brother,

I think she'll

have to drink up.

Among all of us,

only Huaiqing hasn't had to drink.

No wonder she's the wisest lady in our state.

Fill her cup!

- Drink. - Fill it.

Lin'an is still waiting.

Right, Brother?

Drink. Drink up!

Drink.

Yes, she has to drink.

"Drunk, I can't see the sky in the water.

Sweet dreams weigh down the Milky Way."

You...

"Drunk, I can't see the sky in the water.

Sweet dreams weigh down

the Milky Way."

Brilliant!

The lines are ethereal and vivid

with perfectly matching words.

May I ask you're...?

I'm Xu Qi'an,

Princess Huaiqing's guest advisor.

Xu Qi'an? That name sounds familiar.

Isn't he Lin'an's kept man?

I came to see you, Your Highness.

I'm confused.

Which princess

do you serve as a guest advisor?

Sir, sir.

Princess Huaiqing,

you appreciate my ability.

Without your help,

who knows where I'd end up?

I could be the meat

on others' chopping block.

Princess Lin'an,

as a princess of our state,

you should be able to understand

my eagerness to repay others' kindness.

I'm extremely flattered and grateful

for your offer,

but I have to turn it down.

Please let me go

and respect my decision.

Princess Huaiqing,

I'm not a kept man.

Could you let go of the rumors

and trust me again?

I...

I...

Are you still doubting me?

I, Xu Qi'an, swear solemnly

that I'll devote my life to you

and spare no effort in my duty.

I'll only

serve Princess Huaiqing to the end!

H-H-He...

Did he make a mistake?

You made a mistake.

- There... - That's enough.

Princess Huaiqing is over there.

Princess Lin'an,

can you stop playing such silly games?

- Princess! - Lin'an!

- Call imperial physicians! - Are you dizzy?

Princess!

Go get imperial physicians! Hurry!

No need.

Go to the Bureau.

Lin'an once fainted there.

They have the right medicine.

Yes. Right.

Go to the Bureau.

She'll be fine.

Let's go to the Bureau.

Sure.

Call imperial physicians!

Don't worry.

He'll wake up in a minute.

Let's go.

- Go to my place. - Join us, Master.

- Let's go. - Sure, let's go.

Why are they talking so happily?

Are they talking?

I didn't know the truth until just now.

That's about the whole thing.

Sorry, I offended you repeatedly.

Please forgive me.

It's a clear day today.

Let's take a walk.

Yes.

- Are they leaving? - Don't know.

- Where to? - Don't know.

Where are we on the Sangbo Case?

Files from the Municipal Office and Justice are a mess.

As I recall,

the handler of the case is a criminal,

a Copper Gong Guardian named Xu.

Yes.

It's Xu Qi'an.

He's quite skilled.

He solved the Flag Officer's case

and Zhou Chixiong's case.

He also found

where the gunpowder came from.

I heard of it.

He has a clear mind

and a great gift for investigation.

Found anything so far?

As a matter of fact, yes.

Governor Zhao of Taikang

was found dead in jail

before dawn yesterday.

Magistrate Chen has reported it to me.

The cause of death

isn't trauma,

poison,

suffocation, or other human causes.

Either

the Yin Spirit of the Three Sects

or

the northern wizards did it.

So

what's the status now?

Your Highness,

Zhou Chixiong fooled the Gazing Spell

and fled out of the capital.

He must've used some kind of weapon.

That's why I'm thinking

by tracking down his weapon...

I know all that.

What else?

Is that all you've found?

What would you like to know?

I checked your investigation records.

You found the Bureau's seal in Sangbo.

Tianyu Language was carved on the pillar in it.

Have you pursued that lead?

Your Highness,

Lord Wei told me specifically

not to dig into whatever that was in Sangbo.

I wouldn't dare defy him.

Also,

why Kui blew up the Ancestral Temple

remains unknown.

Their motive might lead to the truth, too.

Someone or something powerful

was sealed under the Ancestral Temple.

However,

only Father knows that secret.

Lord Wei told you not to dig into it

to protect you.

(She knows that, too.)

Go on

with your theory.

A mere 8th-Rank Fighter like Zhou

pulled off such a shocking scheme

and ran away with his weapon.

I believe

someone in the court is covering for him.

That person is

likely to be involved in the Yanxiao Case

and the Missing Tax Silver Case, too.

Or a huge organization is behind Zhou.

As for their goal...

Do you mean...?

I dare not make assumptions,

but as Kui is involved,

and they meant to lift the seal in the lake,

the mastermind wants more than power.

Among the powerful officials,

those who could secretly collude with Kui...
