TJ: Jordan and Derek, we have a sudden death.

KYLAND: Derek is solidifying himself

as someone who is not just a threat in challenges

but is probably a threat in the final.

TJ: Our winners of today's challenge,

Tori and Kyland.

- [grunts] - [cheering]

- [air horn blows] - DEREK: Good try, Aviv!

TJ: Jenny,

now I need you to select three men.

Except for Kyland.

JENNY: Everybody knows

what name I can never say.

So it's gonna have to be the only three boy options--

Jordan, Cory, and Derek.

TJ: All right, guys,

time to start thinking about my final.

We are very close.

- Get out of here. - TORI: At this point,

how many more obstacles until the end?

Knowing that we are so close to the final,

the stakes are the highest they've ever been.

CT: Come on, you're slowing us down.

BRAD: I'm watching his eyes roll in the back of his head

- while he's got chains wrapped around. - CASEY: You want to worry

about the game, or do you want to worry about your friend?

This is costing us 300,000 [bleep] dollars.

Just give him a little oxygen.

This is gonna help you out a lot.

This is this man's life, and we need to help him.

CT: We're gonna get up and we're gonna win that 30 grand.

Our group has just gotten smaller.

We've just had an Angel leave us,

so we need to regroup.

I don't really have, like, a really strong relationship

with any of the guys.

Rachel and I know

that if one of us doesn't win the next challenge

that there's a very big possibility

that we could be the next targets.

So we just need to fuckin' get our Angel halos together

and just, like,

figure out where our halos lie.

CORY: Caught the "T" again.

[groans] No surprise. Your boy's got

the target band on.

Some people's journeys

are harder than others'. It's nothing new.

Survived every time I've had this guy on.

I'm looking at my competition, and it is tough.

- Yeah! - CORY: Jordan's got four championships.

The kid is a beast.

CORY: A lot of people have been sleeping on Derek.

I think he has what it takes. He's smart.

His endurance is great.

He's sneaky athletic.

Even though we haven't seen him in the sand,

everyone loves him.

CORY: Kyland's got the brains. He's got the endurance.

He's a great overall player,

and that's really what it takes

to become a champ.

Oh, Bananas, you forgot your "T."

I'm not scared to go against Bananas.

I beat him last final,

and he's down one of his Angels.

- JENNY: Cory? - Jenny, don't look at me

For the guys as well, tonight it was like...

BANANAS: Cory is like

the used car salesman of The Challenge.

This guy will say anything he needs to

to anyone at any time of the day.

This just goes to show that this is telling me

that his social game just is not on point this season.

JENNY: You know when you say Cory's name,

the target is very, very likely to come back,

so it's like, "Ah!" Do you want me to open this for you?

I am an athlete. I am competitive.

a really big shot of actually winning.

so that could definitely change my life.

I also just want to make sure

that my friends and family are taken care of.

COVID messed up my brother's 40th birthday.

I was supposed to take him to Italy.

So before I paid any debt off,

I want to make sure that I take my brother on his birthday

that he's always wanted to go to.

I actually feel, like, a lot of responsibility

for this guys' day.

It was, like, to save people I care about.

MICHELE: Honestly, Derek has been

misunderstood in this game as a great competitor,

which I think he is.

So I want him

to weasel his way out of this target

and stay out of the sand.

So just get through this next one and we're good.

JENNY: In honor of Aviv,

I will be sleeping in her bed tonight.

I just got to overcome whatever the fuck

this disadvantage is gonna be.

This is where my game

that I was gonna be in a position

where it was me,

Jordan, Derek, and Cory,

and I somehow was going to be the only one saved,

I wouldn't have believed you.

And, uh, as long as I don't come in last on this next challenge,

just dodging bullets left and right here.

I've just set three targets on three guys.

I have to win tomorrow. Because if I don't,

any of those guys that goes to elimination and comes back

is definitely gonna put something on me again.

That's what you want.

If you could just do that little favor for the Angels,

you know, that would be nice.

JORDAN: Now that I'm a target, there's no sense

in bitching about it or-or going to Jenny and,

"Oh, why did you do that?" You must accept your fate.

There are no mistakes that can be made.

You have to win.

RACHEL: TJ keeps letting us know

that we are very close to the final,

and we all feel it.

This is an absolute must-win time in the game.

Going into this next challenge,

I know that if I can take myself off the table

to be a target, I can

basically sail into the final,

and that's what I need.

TJ: Welcome to your next challenge here

in beautiful Vietnam on this season of The Challenge 40:

Battle of the Eras.

- [cheering] - Yeah!

This challenge has been on the books for seasons.

We've always wanted to do it,

yet we have never had the perfect location

until today.

And Burger King

just so happens to be getting in on the action.

- [cheering] - BK!

Have it your way!

- You rule! - TJ: Burger King

is all about having it your way,

allowing people to get what they want,

how they want it, and whenever they want it.

- [cheering] - And just like this game, only you rule

how you get to my final and take home the title

of Challenge 40 champion.

Now, congratulations, Jenny.

With winning the elimination,

you had to choose three men to become the new targets.

And you chose Jordan, Cory, and Derek.

So if you're a target,

you really want to win today.

Because if you lose, you're going straight into the Arena.

For all the women out there, you don't want to lose either.

You will be assessed a penalty at the next challenge.

Which reminds me, Bananas,

you will be assessed a penalty today.

You'll get a 30-second dock.

- Come on. - Okay.

Today's challenge is called Fire Plunge!

[cheering, applause]

One at a time,

you will each take your place

inside this Burger King

flame-grilled-inspired convertible.

- JORDAN: Yeah! - When I say go,

you're gonna have to solve a puzzle.

When you solve the puzzle,

all four lights

will light up, meaning that you successfully hot-wired this car.

[laughs]

TJ: This hot rod's gonna get fired up

and go careening off a 300-foot cliff.

[cheering]

TJ: Once ejected, you'll then be dropped down

into the water,

and it's a 500-meter swim

all the way to the finish.

- 500 meters? - Swim as fast

as you can, because this is a timed event,

and the man and woman with the fastest time today will win

and solidify your status as the best.

- RACHEL: Yeah. - [cheering]

- Yeah! - TJ: So get it done!

- [cheering] - All right.

JORDAN: I love to see the swim.

That's a big equalizer.

You know, the best way to take the whole thing

into my own hands is win.

But if I don't win, I'm gonna need Tori to win

and help keep me safe.

- TJ: All right, Jordan. - Let's go, baby.

So far in the game,

this is the biggest guys' day to win.

If you don't win, you are going in.

And we are too close to the end to chance that now.

TORI [in distance]: Jordan!

BANANAS: He can't hear you.

Hey, maybe he can.

MICHELE: There's no way not to be nervous here.

Oh, dude, you kidding me?

You're about to get fuckin' flung off a cliff

in a car, dude.

TJ: All right, Jordan, you ready?

JORDAN [echoing]: You got to do it faster.

All I can hear in my head is

JORDAN: This is my takeoff era.

I've had a lot of time in my life

to see what dreams I really want.

Well, now I know.

Being a professional race car driver--

I want that more than anything.

And this is the era of my life where I go for it

with everything I've got.

TORI: Good job, Jordan.

CORY: Watching Jordan, I'm thinking about the final.

It is right around the corner.

What can't Jordan do?

He can swim, he can bike.

I just don't see myself beating him in a final.

So we got to take him out at all costs.

[engine starts]

- Boom. - AUTOMATED VOICE: You rule.

- [whooping] - Come on!

JORDAN: Clear, let's go. Come on.

MICHELE: Oh, my God!

JORDAN: Ah...

- CARA MARIA: Oh, my God. - JORDAN: Oh!

[Jordan whooping]

In today's challenge we have to

basically hot-wire a car

and fly off a cliff and then swim

500 meters to shore.

Jordan is a triathlon athlete,

and Derek knows he's not gonna win this challenge.

So what's the next best thing

when you're a target? Not lose.

So I'm hoping that I can at least do that

because I'll be able to plead my case

on whoever wins this challenge.

- [applause] - TORI: Good job, Jordan.

Almost there!

BANANAS: Murdered that swim.

JENNY: Nice job, Jord.

- [air horn blows] - [cheering, applause]

So fast.

- That's a swim. - BANANAS: Yeah, you think?

CORY: You look all cool and suave. I'm-a...

[imitates hyperventilating]

RACHEL: I am very motivated to win.

My kids' favorite place is Burger King.

I'm from Miami. My kids knew how to swim

at basically six months 'cause that's how much time

we spend in the water.

So I'm gonna just book it all the way to the finish line.

TJ: All right, Rachel, you ready?

- Go. - [air horn blows]

- [cheering] - [whistles]

TORI: There's 12 plugs already plugged in.

Only four of those plugs are actually going to work

once you find the right socket for them.

So, essentially, there's eight faulty plugs

- that don't matter... - Come on, Rache!

...and you have to find the four that do.

RACHEL: So, two now.

CARA MARIA: Rachel is

a badass bitch.

However, when it comes to the final,

Rachel might be fit, but...

puzzles?

Not so good.

RACHEL: Three.

Or not.

- [engine starts] - AUTOMATED VOICE: You rule.

- Got it. - TJ: Here we go, Rachel!

[cheering, applause]

RACHEL: Whoo...!

[cheering, applause]

TJ: Yeah, Rachel.

KYLAND: Damn.

- BANANAS: Let's go, Rache! - CARA MARIA: That is a very long swim.

I mean, she's cooking.

- DEREK: Good job, Rache! - BANANAS: You got it, Rache!

RACHEL: I'm gonna be honest, my why this season

is just another notch on my belt.

At this point, I have been here so long,

my Botox is wearing off, but my kids are like,

"Win, Mama."

My wife is like,

"Do it, honey."

So I'm taking this one

all the way.

BANANAS: Get across the line!

- [air horn blows] - [cheering, applause]

Swimming is difficult, right?

Like, it's a pretty precise skill set.

Like, a lot of people run.

Everyone, like, goes for a jog.

Do people go outside and, like, swim 500 meters?

Probably not. You know?

Rachel absolutely sets the bar.

That is going to be a really tough time to beat.

That swim... [grunts softly]

...is no joke.

TJ: All right, Derek, you ready?

- [air horn blows] - Go.

Okay, let's see.

I don't know if you guys know, but I used to spend some time

hot-wiring and stealing cars,

so these guys have a lot-- no, I'm just kidding.

I'm kind of nervous, but I'm kind of stoked, because

who gets to say that they got to fly off a cliff

in a car in Vietnam?

Like, oh, I do. I do.

So, yes. Let's go.

It's win or go in, and I'm a target.

This is a big Challenge,

it's The Challenge 40, and becoming

the champion of such a hugeChallenge is, like,

number one goal, and my motivation

is my family and knowing that I could be

the first single gay guy to win The Challenge.

You know, there's been gay guys that have won

with partners and teams, but, like, to be the first,

like, individual gay guy would be amazing.

There we go.

Whatever I'm doing, I'm gonna keep doing that because

I can see that final so close,

and people like Johnny Bananas

have already seen the sand twice,

and I haven't even been down there once.

So, fingers crossed that I can keep this momentum going

and I never have to see an elimination.

Okay, this sucks.

- So glad this is a guys' day. - CORY: Let's go, Derek.

MICHELE: Good job!

Honestly, Derek has not had

that target band in a long time.

He's played an amazing social game,

and that's kept him out of the Arena.

So I'm a little bit nervous for him

because if he doesn't win,

he might find himself going in.

I don't know what to do.

BANANAS: It's really difficult to gauge

how everybody is doing on this challenge.

Derek, I'm not sure if he just panicked

and doesn't want to do it,

but he's moving at a very slow pace,

which is great for me.

TORI: Only a few strokes left.

- Everything you got. - [air horn blows]

- CORY: Good job, Derek. - TORI: Good job, Derek.

- TJ: Cara, you ready? - Fuck it.

- [air horn blows] - Go! - CORY: Let's go, Cara!

TORI: You got this, Cara!

CARA MARIA: For me, it's always about the Cara Maria

who started on Fresh Meat II.

This would just be the most incredible win

for her.

I'm a bad swimmer,

I'm an average joe swimmer in a sea of Michael Phelps.

Every single person left here is a wicked good swimmer.

TORI: Good job, Cara! You can do it.

RACHEL: I'm just kind of baffled

as to her competitive spirit.

CARA MARIA: I'm giving you the back squid stroke,

I'm giving you the freestyle stroke.

MICHELE: You're so close, Cara.

RACHEL: She's almost joking in the water.

She doesn't even care, and I just don't get it.

- MICHELE: You made it. You made it! - [overlapping chatter]

- [air horn blows] - TORI: Listen, I get it,

Cara is a new version of herself,

but I'm just kind of, like,

hoping I don't do that bad.

[laughs]

- Do you need water? - No, I had enough.

- [laughter] - I'm good.

- JORDAN: Come on, Michele! - MICHELE: This is the first

real water challenge that we've seen.

I know how to swim distances,

I know how to stay calm underwater,

and I know that I can beat

pretty much any girl in any swim in this game.

So, game on, girls. Let's go.

CARA MARIA: Good job, Michele. You can do it.

BANANAS: Let's go, Jenny!

Slap that water, Ky. Slap it!

CORY: Keep your feet moving.

BANANAS: There literally

is not a weakness

that I have been able to see

in Kyland's game

until he hits the water.

I thought he was drowning.

There actually is

a chink in his armor, and it, of all things,

ends up being swimming.

- [air horn blowing] - CARA MARIA: Go, Kyland!

RACHEL: Good job, Michele!

[air horn blowing]

CORY: Well done. Good work.

- [clapping] - Good work.

- All right, Tori, you ready? Go. - [air horn blows]

TORI: Oh, my God.

When we're this close to the end,

we really do have to dig deep because today

is so important to win.

Oh, there we go. There's one.

The girl that wins today

is automatically safe from being a target next time.

Derek, Cory and Jordan are targets,

and obviously I've been riding

this game with Jordan the entire time.

If I win today and he doesn't win,

I get the potential to save him.

So I really am gonna try to win so that I can help my guy out.

JORDAN: Go, Tori!

But more importantly than that,

I'm trying to not be picked as a target next time.

- JENNY: You're killing it. - You're so close, Tor.

CORY: Bananas has a 30-second disadvantage.

and I need Tori to win

to keep me safe.

TORI: It would be so amazing to win season 40

because I started on Dirty 30.

I made it to a final. I came in third place.

So if I prove that I have been able

to do so much growth in the last decade

and I can win season 40, then I think

I'd be able to get to cement myself

on the Challenge Mount Rushmore

for female players.

DEREK: You're almost there.

She's improved her swim so much.

- JORDAN: Tor! - MICHELE: Good job, Tor.

- JORDAN: That's how you swim. - [air horn blows]

[cheering]

- BANANAS: Are you peeing right now? - Yes.

[laughing]

CORY: Does anything more need to be said?

we're on The Challenge,

and we're driving a car off a cliff.

on my wrist, and you know

what that means. I'm a target.

and that's tough to do in water, and you can tell

he's been working at it.

JORDAN: You're right here!

Oh, my God, is that a dolphin?

Oh, no. That's Cory.

JENNY: I can't get enough of it.

KYLAND: It seemed like Cory was pretty fast.

I'm worried about

my swim time.

My biggest fear might be

coming to pass, and...

I could get last in this challenge.

- Good job, big dawg. - DEREK: I'm kind of nervous.

I literally spent so much time doing this puzzle,

and I know Kyland struggled with swimming,

so it's really close right now.

TJ: Flame-grilled hot rods bombing off of a cliff.

What more could you ask for?

It's a hard blow for me today.

it comes down to Derek and Kyland.

Derek, you need to work on those puzzle skills.

And, Kyland, the water was not your friend today.

But the loser of today's challenge is...

...Derek.

normally you'd be heading up the table in the Chamber.

However, Jordan, you're a target and you won.

The only target left is Cory.

and knowing that I don't have

to make a decision alleviates so much stress.

It's gonna be good. It's a win for both of us.

CORY: First time I've ever done that.

So that's how I look at it...

such a big accomplishment for me.

I mean, there's not many more left.

It's literally one of the last, if not the last one.

I've been humbled so many times and I've also

been shocked at how well I performed.

You never know what we're gonna get,

and I love that at least we have that respect for each other.

I don't sleep on Derek, and I know he's gonna

give me everything he has, so, uh, I'm gonna buckle up.

like you can win it.

I didn't come on this season

to feel like I could make it there.

I know-- I've been to five finals

out of ten seasons-- I know I can get there.

The only question that I need to answer is: can I win it all?

The fact that, like, I'm stuck in the last elimination

before possibly a final,

that's a little bit of a motivation.

Also, tomorrow's my little--

would have been my little sister's birthday.

just like, "Let's not get into an elimination,

Derek, on this day."

It just gives me extra motivation and stuff, you know.

Before my little sister passed away,

one of her favorite things that she loved to do with me was

to watch this show together.

So she's definitely my number one motivation.

When she passed away,

I didn't think anything was going on with my little sister,

because I didn't ask.

So just check on people.

You might not have any idea

that something's going on in somebody's life.

You just need to not be afraid to ask.

By the time I could, it was too late.

- You now have your motivation. - I have a motivation,

but also being able to beat somebody like you,

who's like an elimination person?

So I'm gonna come out a hundred because I got to, like...

I like to win.

I'm a competitor in every aspect,

and I won't stop until I become a champion.

I'm ready to do this.

Stuff falls into place at weird times,

and things are supposed to happen

the way they're supposed to happen.

And I think this was supposed to happen.

RACHEL: We've gotten to this point.

Whatever happens, it's meant to be anyway.

I mean, come on, for me, I've had like a million moments now

where, like, I can't believe I did that.

You came back in fuckin' hot. Hot.

JENNY: Yeah, she has.

Well, all of us--

And then I remember that Derek owes me a favor.

I had the option to put him into elimination

or Cory, and I chose to put Cory in over Derek.

So I just want to find out where his head's at,

because Derek, if you can pay me this favor back,

by not targeting me, that would be

fucking amazing.

RACHEL: Today, when I lost,

- it was not an easy day. - Mm.

Now it's even more pressure to win the next one.

- Yeah. - TORI: All of us? Like...

I-I wouldn't sleep on a single one of you guys.

Any one of us could get it.

RACHEL: Looking at everyone

that is left in the game,

we're all very strong women.

At this point,

it's just surviving to the final.

Every woman has to want to win

the last women's challenge day.

The stakes cannot be higher right now.

TORI: I mean, it's tough, dude. We're like right at the end,

and the pressure is getting bigger and bigger

as we continue to compete.

JENNY: You know, "may the best woman win" situation,

you know, but we had planned

to sneak into your room tonight and break your fingers.

Then, "Today is a feet-only challenge."

And the next challenge is probably

the last girls' day challenge.

"What the fuck was I so excited about?"

Or there's an elimination in the final.

- You don't make it to a certain stage... - CORY: 100%,

there's gonna be an elimination in the final.

We've seen it too many times where if you go in with four,

there will be an elimination at some point.

- JORDAN: Purge and eliminate. - DEREK: That sucks.

- BANANAS: That really does. If you go through the hell... - You make it through this...

- BANANAS: You go through this... - ...and then make it to the final and then don't place.

- BANANAS: Go to that final? - DEREK: Yeah.

KYLAND: I'm hopeful for the final, not celebrating it

until it's announced, like an official.

But right now this is my first final four.

BANANAS: When you show up on fuckin' day one

and you look around the room and you see

is insane, but the fact that I'm going into elimination

is making it a lot harder to talk about the final

This is one of the first times that I actually

feel good about being down here because I did it to myself.

I didn't have anybody vote me in.

And defeating a beast like this

When I say go, you're gonna

raise that wheel up,

which opens up the gate. Then you're gonna have to

race through it and grab some cinder blocks.

Now, you can gather as many as you want,

You have to put 'em on the station.

You cannot put 'em on the sand until you've

gathered all of the blocks.

You're gonna continue this process

till you build your image.

It'll be on the front and back.

First one to get this done will win tonight's elimination,

It's gonna take strength, endurance

and brains to get this done.

wasn't gonna be easy, and

it hasn't been. This is my new home.

I feel comfortable right now. I'm calm,

the least amount of trips as I can.

on the ground and putting them together.

really good in this elimination

because he's so strong.

Cory's already sent home legends in this season.

Me and him found ourself at the bottom of everybody's list.

And we became each other's number ones by default.

But at the same time, in the house,

me, Derek and Michele are pretty much

the closest. And today's a heavy day for him. So,

about the pieces he chooses and when he brings them over.

I would honestly rather have Cory back in the house.

Because Cory's been to five finals, hasn't won one of 'em.

Derek has been on fire. Very clean. He is good

at just about everything.

BANANAS: What Derek's doing is really smart:

is he's building it all so that Cory can't see what it is.

He's just gonna put it all together, he's gonna build--

basically build it so he can't see it

and then just put it all together.

As simple as

this task seems-- "Oh, stack up a bunch

of cinder blocks"-- I know how difficult

cinder block puzzles are.

On Ride or Dies, it literally cost me a final.

There is a lot of strategy

that needs to go into putting this together properly.

Derek has a strategy. Cory does not.

He needs to figure it out pretty quickly.

RACHEL: Cory has worked

so hard,

but Derek got the memo. This is a puzzle.

under the radar, but when it's time to perform,

The fact that I did it and came out on top

shows all these other competitors
