I didn't know that.

They said I was too slow, too small.

Well, you showed them, huh?

Ah, they were right.

So I practiced even harder and went out again the next year

and I was cut again.

But the story has a happy ending.

No matter how successful I became

and despite all the accolades and the trophies,

I always felt like that kid who wasn't good enough.

But playing football is all I ever wanted.

And winning.

But then when I saw you again,

to start a whole new chapter of my life.

I really don't wanna mess up what we have.

There's, there's something I need to tell you.

I think I already know.

It's pretty obvious.

Listen, Ben, uh,

has been so great.

It has brought back so many wonderful memories.

But,

I'm not ready to take this to the next level.

Maybe playing again is what you're meant to do.

You know, it's like you said,

y-you, it doesn't matter what other people say.

Only you know when it's your time

and you need to do what makes you happy.

Otherwise you'll regret it, and life's too short.

Why is Ben going to California?

I don't know, I just thought it would be easier.

Okay, we're all set.

Legal is sending your team the finalized contract

and we're holding the official press release

LA fans will wake up to a great Christmas present.

Let's go.

This is way too many popcorn balls for all of us.

They're not all for us.

I thought that we would go drop them off

at friends' houses tomorrow after we open presents.

I think that's a great idea.

Could we give some to Ben and his family?

Why aren't you getting ready for the ball?

Because I decided to stay here with you and Grandma.

How does that sound?

But won't Ben be upset.

Uh, it turns out that Ben wasn't able to make it.

Why?

So it's supposed to be a secret,

but he did tell me that I could tell you.

Ben is on a plane on his way to Los Angeles.

He's joining their team.

- Really? - Mm-hmm.

Isn't that exciting?

But, but that means

we won't be able to spend Christmas with them.

I'm sorry, but we'll still have a great Christmas.

You, me, Grandma, Grandpa.

And he didn't even say goodbye.

He wanted to and he would have,

but he had to leave right away.

I mean, they start practice tomorrow.

I don't believe it.

I know you're disappointed.

Honestly, so am I.

We're friends.

He'll never leave during Christmas without saying goodbye.

Everything looks good.

Our legal team has signed off.

All we need is your autograph.

It's everything we discussed.

It's all there.

It'll good to get back to some warm weather, huh?

Forgot how much I missed winters.

Mm-mm, not me, I'll take the sun and the beaches anytime.

Just never felt quite like Christmas without the cold.

That's just the West Virginia kid in you, huh?

I guess it just felt strange jetting off on Christmas Eve.

I'm sure they understand.

You're lucky you don't have kids.

I feel bad for some of these guys

That would not have gone over well at my house.

It all comes down to priorities, I guess.

Um, hey, I'm, I'm sorry.

Because just when I felt myself getting close to her,

Football, do I have to spell this out for you?
