What?

Hey!

Naofumi!

Naofumi!

Rishia?

Oh, I'm so glad!

I kept calling you, but you wouldn't wake up.

Where are we?

When I came to, you were on the ground next to me.

Where are Raphtalia and Filo?

It was only you and me.

I see.

What's this shield?

What? It was already like that when I saw it.

I've never seen this shield.

What on earth…

Naofumi?

My level is back to one.

What?

SPECIAL PERMISSION FOR LIMITED ACCESS GRANTED

YOU DO NOT MEET THE PREREQUISITES

And you're level one too, Rishia.

What?

It's fine to say that in this situation.

Is this all Kyo's doing?

Getting separated from Raphtalia and Filo and reverting to level one?

Master Naofumi!

Thank goodness!

You're safe too, Rishia!

Where's Filo? I don't see her.

Raphtalia, you…

What is it?

Your body!

What?

What…

What?

It's open.

We weren't imprisoned?

There aren't any guards, and we still have our weapons.

Raphtalia, don't force yourself.

But this is the only weapon I have.

What is it?

Nothing.

I just remembered when we first met.

I did revert to level one, and my body shrank,

but I'm still your sword!

Yes, you're right. You're way different from back then.

Naofumi! Raphtalia!

It looks like someone lives here.

They even have a stove.

Did they bring us down here?

But if they did, why prison?

Does that lead to outside?

It's clearly suspicious.

But we have to go.

Oh, wait for me!

What?

Something is wrong with this place.

Wrong?

The waves are coming in,

but there's no wind.

What…

And the sea is strange too.

It's like there's nothing beyond the horizon.

What…

Going out to sea is suicide.

CAUTION MONSTER SEAL OUT OF DETECTION RANGE

It looks like Filo isn't anywhere near us,

or maybe she isn't in this weird space we're in.

Filo…

I'm sure she's fine!

Filo might even be doing really well!

Do you really think so?

What?

What if we never find her?

She has never experienced being alone before.

We need to get out of here and find Filo as soon as possible.

Right!

A cardboard box?

What?

Raphtalia!

Yes!

Are you all right?

Yes, I'm just fine.

A NEW SHIELD HAS BEEN UNLOCKED

ABSORB: WHITE BOX SHELL, 3

"White Box"?

I've never seen one before, but I guess it's like an Orange Balloon?

UNLOCK: BEGINNER’S SMALL WHITE SHIELD, PHYSICAL DEFENSE, 2

Seems like you gained experience. Maybe we should gain some levels here.

Yes, you're right.

You too, Rishia.

Right!

HEAD RABBIT

It's so refreshing!

I'm so glad we can drink the water!

I guess this is what to expect from weak monsters.

Now that I've drank some water, I'm starting to feel hungry.

Oh, actually, I'm pretty hungry.

What?

Is that a kappa?

Wait, Raphtalia!

Master Naofumi!

Get away! We can't fight it at our current level!

Let go of Master Naofumi!

You…

Wait!

Slaughter Wire!

Are you okay?

I take my eyes off you for a second, and you come all the way out here.

You could've died, you know?

Who are you?

Kizuna.

Kizuna Kazayama.

The Hunting Hero of the Four Cardinal Heroes.

Cardinal? Hunting Hero?

I told you my name. Why not tell me yours?

Naofumi Iwatani.

The Shield Hero of the Four Cardinal Heroes.

What? You're one of the Four Cardinal Heroes too?

I've never heard of a Shield Hero.

I've never heard of a Hunting Hero either.

And your name…

By any chance, are you Japanese?

So you're one too?

Master Naofumi…

You've got some heavy equipment, but you got hurt pretty bad.

Wait. Is that thing bugging out?

My defense stats are unreadable.

My level isn't high enough for this equipment.

Anyway, I guess we should treat those wounds first.

I see.

So you're a Cardinal Hero from another world?

Oh, mind if I call you Naofumi?

Call me whatever you want. I'll do the same for you.

So you're Raphtalia, and you're Rishia?

It's nice that you have friends who care about you, Naofumi.

What about you? Are you alone?

I have friends too.

But I haven't seen them for years, ever since I got trapped in here.

Trapped?

Yes, I messed up and got caught by people from an enemy kingdom.

What good comes from catching a Cardinal Hero?

What about dealing with the Waves?

Waves? What are those?

You don't know?

The Four Cardinal Heroes are summoned to repel the Waves.

I see.

Looks like you and I got summoned for different reasons.

At least L'Arc and Glass knew what the Waves were.

What did you just say?

L'Arc and Glass?

They are probably from the same world as you.

You know L'Arc?

And Glass too? That girl is my best friend!

Best friend?

The scary lady who uses that steel fan is your friend?

That's right!

You call that monster a girl? How old are you?

Monster? I'm 18.

What…

So you're a midget…

Never mind.

Hey! You were going to call me a midget hag, weren't you?

So you know what it means.

Of course, I do!

Midget?

Hag?

Oh, sorry! You must be hungry.

Let's have dinner.

Hold it.

Why do we have to eat dinner with some suspicious girl we just met?

Hey. Why not?

I technically saved your lives.

And we're both Cardinal Heroes.

You said you are friends with Glass. That makes you more suspicious.

Who knows when you'll slit our throats?

What did Glass do to you?

Well, I guess I'll have to.

Master Naofumi!

I can use my Holy Weapon to attack people, but I can't hurt them.

So you see now? I couldn't do anything to you even if I tried.

So let's have dinner!

I got a ton of food here! And I can cut it with this!

No, I'm doing it.

What? I won't poison them!

I'm just more confident in my own cooking skills.

Wow! It looks so good!

I'm definitely glad I didn't cook these!

Shall we eat?

Don't mind if I do!

That was so good!

Thank you for the meal.

Raphtalia, are you still hungry?

No! I would never be…

Oh, right. When we first met, you had to eat a ton.

Demi-humans grow quickly with their level,

so they get hungry quickly too.

So you are still hungry.

What?

I see. You're a growing girl, Raphtalia.

Wait a minute. I'll make some more.

I'm sorry.

I'm so glad you're here now, Naofumi! We can eat well every day!

We're getting out of here as soon as possible.

What? That's impossible.

What?

This is a time prison. The Infinite Labyrinth.

Once you're inside, you can never escape.

Never?

How long have you been in here?

Who knows?

I counted days at first, but I stopped after a few years.

What?

But I haven't given up on getting out.

I've been trying to find a way out every day for years.

But I still haven't found a way.

You think we would believe you

and sit around here forever?

I guess not.

All right, I'll show you around.

But there are days and nights here too.

It's getting late today, so we'll go first thing in the morning.

You can stay in here.

The view isn't great, but monsters can't get inside.

How long has Kizuna lived all alone?

I wouldn't be able to stand it.

Me either.

What if we never manage to escape?

We can't stay here forever.

We need to find Filo and get revenge for Ost right away.

You know, I was pretty bummed when they sentenced me to this place forever.

"What? A place like this? Alone? Forever?"

I got really pissed.

I explored the entire island, and I tried sailing out to sea.

I got really desperate.

I even thought about ending it if I could never get out.

But I had plenty of time.

I decided to keep struggling until I find a way out.

You're very strong, Kizuna.

What?

You say some mature stuff for a little girl, Raphtalia.

Well, I do want to see Glass again one day.

After exploring for years,

I figured that this was the most likely place to find a way out.

I've cleared out the monsters around here, but be careful.

If you could figure that much out, why haven't you escaped yet?

Like I said, I brought you here to show you.

This is it.

This is…

It's similar to the door that connects the prison and the island.

I think this is the end of the Infinite Labyrinth.

There's nothing beyond it. It's another dimension or something.

Don't tell me you're hesitating because you're too scared to go in?

Be my guest.

What the heck is this?

See? You can't go in.

That's why I'm stuck after getting here.

No…

But why?

This is definitely the edge of this space.

But it isn't an entrance.

The wall just happened to collapse,

and we just happened to find out that they didn't make anything beyond it.

Exactly.

What does that mean?

I don't really get it, but you're saying that there's no exit, right?

If it isn't an exit, then it has to be a bug.

"Bug"?

Well, yes, I guess.

In any 2D scroller or 3D game, if you found a bug, what would you do?

I would try to force my way in by any means necessary.

What are you talking about?

We might have a way to do it.

What?

I adjusted it exactly the way you asked me to, but what is this thing?

You saw the display. It's a BioPlant seed.

I can't improve item quality at my level.

Is that so?

Well, it was like buffing shikigami. It was interesting.

So what will you do with that?

This is what I'll do!

Master Naofumi! Isn't that…

Everyone! Get out of here now!

What?

The room is swelling up!

Wow! Is this even possible?

This is the only way for us

to force our way into the bug.

It's going to collapse! Raphtalia! Rishia!

-Yes! -Yes!

Kizuna!

You come too!

All right!

Kizuna!

Kizuna!

It served its purpose, but it will be a pain if we left it alone.

Thank you very much.

I'm out.

Kizuna?

I'm out!

The outside!

It's the outside world!

We're outside the Infinite Labyrinth for sure!

This is the world I was summoned to!

Thank you!

Thank you, Naofumi!

It's thanks to you three!

Thank you so much!

Hey. Keep it down.

I finally got out! Finally!

I'm not alone anymore!

This is great!
