Mother,

didn't you give the bracelet to Ms. Wang?

Your father said I brought it with me when I married him.

I kept it when we went to prison.

He insisted I keep it.

It's more precious than life.

Did you nag at Father again?

This time I didn't.

You know this.

Your father always thinks he's useless

and he owes us.

Where exactly did he go?

Who sent you here?

No one sent me.

Really?

My Lord, I was just passing by.

Just passing by.

Still trying to argue?

I'm not arguing.

Tell me the truth.

Well.

Did you hit him?

No.

- You hit him? - No.

Is he so weak?

Wake him up.

My Lord.

Please spare me.

You brat.

You're tight-lipped, huh?

No, no. I'm not.

Do you have any accomplices?

No, no.

I really don't.

I'll tell you everything.

I'll tell you everything

that I know.

My name is Xu Pingzhi.

I'm a Baihu in the Imperial Guards.

My nephew is also a Guardian.

He's actually your colleague.

(No.)

(I can't mention Ningyan.)

(It might be bad for me.)

A Guardian?

Is he a Copper Gong, Silver Gong, or Gold Gong?

No, no, no.

My Lord,

I was just joking with you.

Joking?

Are you tired of living?

This...

He fainted again.

Wake him up.

I'm wrong.

I won't do it again.

You are a seasoned one.

No, no. I'm still new.

I like you the way you are,

tight-lipped

and seasoned.

No, no. I'm not seasoned at all.

Tell me. Were you really just passing by?

I was telling the truth.

I really was just passing by.

I had a bowl of noodles outside the yamen.

My stomach even got upset.

I'm wrong. I'll change.

I won't pass by the yamen again.

Please spare me, My Lord.

You brat.

Did you eat garlic?

Congratulations, Silver Gong Li.

You've been reinstated.

Congratulations on Mr. Li's reinstatement.

Lord Wei.

What is this about?

This is His Majesty's command.

Xu Qi'an defied his superior

and violated the law.

His Majesty appointed him.

If the Guardians don't follow,

we'll also violate the law.

You may leave now.

Xu Qi'an.

Come in.

Yes.

Greetings,

Lord Wei.

The Gold Hall,

Breeze Hall,

and Suppression Hall

will handle this case

together,

and you'll be

the Lead Investigator.

(Sangbo Case Summary)

Beneath the Sangbo,

is there something sealed there?

Tell me what you think.

Sangbo is the forbidden area of our Dafeng,

but to outsiders,

the only valuable thing there is the Supreme Sword.

This file states that the Supreme Sword

is unharmed,

so the culprit's goal is not that.

I think

there might be something else in the Ancestral Temple.

As for the reason

why it shows up in Sangbo,

let me make a bold guess.

It's because this thing

needs the Supreme Sword to seal it.

Lord Wei, you must know

what this thing is.

Your task

is to find out who destroyed the Ancestral Temple.

Whether this object exists

and whether it needs to be recovered

is none of your concern.

If you encounter any problems,

inform Yang Yan.

He will handle it.

His Majesty gave you a Gold Badge.

With this, you may move freely within the Imperial City,

except in the Palace

and special restricted areas.

Yes, My Lord.

Has the Supervisor recovered?

That old man...

(Peace)

My Lord,

everyone from the Gold Hall,

The temple has been completely destroyed.

The bodies of the fallen soldiers have been carried back.

No one has passed here afterward.

It seems

the lake surface no longer holds any clues.

Why not

go see the bottom of the lake?

Sure.

Please, My Lord.

I'm here.

Are you okay?

You held your breath for a long time.

Your Qi force is too strong for your Spirit Stage.

Perhaps it's because I cultivate

nonstop every day.

So,

did you find anything down there?

The foundation at the lakebed is intact.

The high platform collapsed from a great height.

This suggests the explosion happened inside the temple,

not at the lakebed.

They must've hidden the gunpowder inside the temple.

Around the foundation, there's a circle of stone pillars,

with tadpole-shaped inscriptions carved on them.

They're roughly...

They're roughly like this.

This shape

seems to be

the Tianyu Language.

Is Tianyu behind this?

Not only that.

The stone pillars around the foundation

seem to be arranged according to some specific pattern.

This arrangement

should be a formation.

Arranging a formation in the capital of the Dafeng...

The Astronomical Bureau.

Ningyan.

This seems to involve a lot.

Mr. Sun,

Mr. Chen,

how is the case going?

Eunuch Yang,

the Ministry of Justice and the yamen

interrogate

over a hundred people overnight.

Currently,

we have some leads.

Leads?

So, it's not settled yet.

This time, 312 soldiers

patrolling near Sangbo

died in this explosion.

Their death is the same.

They were drained of their blood

without any other wounds on their bodies.

We think

it must be an expert

who did this.

Another expert.

This makes things more complicated.

Report!

Mr. Sun,

the Guardians are still outside,

saying it's an imperial command,

and they want the people back.

- Drive them away. - Yes.

My Lord.

How's it going?

The Ministry of Works is fine,

but Guangxiao has a problem.

Let's go.

Let's go.

(Ministry of Justice) We're on a case.

Whoever trespasses

and interferes with the investigation

shall be killed.

This is a restricted area.

Unrelated personnel,

get off your horses!

Anyone who trespasses

will die.

One

Chop

to

Kill

All.

The Guardians are on a case.

Anyone who obstructs it

will be killed without mercy.

How dare you attack here

as an official?

Won't this cause trouble?

Should I be afraid of trouble now?

For me, progress is life.

If I don't assert my authority, they won't fear me.

They'll continue obstructing us.

Pull yourself together.

Let's go.

Report.

Mr. Sun.

What's going on now?

The Guardians broke in

and injured our people.

Who's so bold?

I am Xu Qi'an.

My Lord.

Greetings, My Lords.

I heard you detained many officials from the Ministry of Rites

and obstructed our investigation.

Mr. Sun,

may I ask what you mean by this?

Xu Qi'an,

you trespassed into my ministry

and injured my men.

What do you mean by this?

The Guardians are on a case.

Why should we report to the Ministry of Justice?

You're simply lawless.

Guards!

Take him down.

I am here under imperial orders.

I suspect the Ministry of Justice is colluding with the culprit

and blew up the Ancestral Temple.

Guardians!

Escort Mr. Sun back to the yamen for tea.

Yes!

How dare you draw your sabers in my ministry?

How many lives do you think you have?

I will handle the cases you can't

and kill the people you don't dare to.

Also,

if your ministry dares to obstruct my investigation,

I'll take down your ministry as well.

Is that clear enough?

Xu Qi'an.

Good.

Good.

You're indeed young and brash.

Your arrogance truly stands out.

Perfect timing.

Let me introduce

this Copper Gong Xu Qi'an in the middle.

He was recommended by the Crown Prince

and appointed by His Majesty as the Guardians' Lead Investigator.

A few days ago,

he injured a superior

and was sentenced to a waist chop.

His Majesty is wise

and merciful

and allows him to atone for his crimes.

The appointed Lead Investigator by His Majesty?

Good, you Guardians

have come

at the right time.

I don't have to make another trip

to talk to you.

Everyone, please sit.

Xu Qi'an,

you sit too.

My Lord,

your Gold Badge.

I'm too angry to eat this.

But it's so sweet.

I'm really angry today.

This is so delicious. Eat some.

Go.

Record it carefully.

My life is difficult now.

If I don't handle this case well, I'll die here.

Investigator Xu.

Are you done?

(Hid a large amount of gunpowder near Sangbo Lake.)

The Guardians

sent a mere Copper Gong to investigate the case.

It's truly laughable.

Exactly.

Since you've done speaking,

I'll just comment

on what you've said.

Based on Mr. Sun's deduction,

I have a few questions.

I visited Sangbo Lake this morning.

The amount of gunpowder required

to blow up the Ancestral Temple is enormous.

Yes.

Is there a problem?

Here's the issue.

As Mr. Sun just mentioned,

the security measures for the gunpowder are very strict.

It's already extremely hard to steal such a large amount

from the Ministry of Works.

Let alone erase the relevant traces.

Who do you think could pull off such a thing?

The Minister of Works

or

the two Vice Ministers.

So, it was the Minister and two Vice Ministers.

Now, everything makes sense.

But

isn't it too reckless?

What do you mean?

To steal such a large amount of gunpowder,

no matter how careful they were,

there would still be traces left behind.

An investigation would find out.

In my humble opinion,

this is just a trick by the culprit,

making us believe the gunpowder came from the Ministry of Works,

thus shifting the focus of the investigation,

and giving the real culprit time to escape the capital.

Apart from the Ministry of Works,

where else could such a large amount of gunpowder come from?

Is it possible

it was transported from outside the city?

Gunpowder is obvious.

How could it be smuggled in?

Let's put aside the Outer City.

The soldiers in the Inner City

inspect all incoming and outgoing goods.

The Imperial City is even stricter.

Smuggling it in

is simply impossible.

If the gunpowder can't be brought into the city,

what about the raw materials?

That's right.

If it was just the raw materials,

the soldiers guarding the city wouldn't know its use,

and there would be no contraband.

If you ask me, I'll let it pass.

Mr. Chen, how wise of you.

Look.

The raw materials...

Among the raw materials for gunpowder,

charcoal and sulfur are common items.

But there's one more thing that the Dafeng strictly controls:

Saltpeter.

Saltpeter mines.

Mount Dahuang.

Mount Dahuang.

Breaking down the route.

We analyzed it earlier.

They went from Mount Dahuang to the Outer City and Inner City.

They were only transporting raw materials,

so they could easily pass the gate.

Next was the most crucial checkpoint of the Imperial City.

Eunuch Yang.

My Lords.

I have other matters in the yamen.

I will take my leave now.

Caiwei,

shall we go together?

Everyone,

goodbye.

Wait...

Caiwei...

What about me?

My Lord, where are we going?

The Kui drove out the miners

to get the saltpeter mines inside Mount Dahuang

to make gunpowder to destroy the Ancestral Temple

and release the seal under the lake.

The inside man who helped them smuggle the gunpowder into Sangbo

should be someone who can freely enter and leave the Imperial City.

Someone who can move freely in the Imperial City?

The Insignia Guards?

The day before the worshiping ceremony,

a small Flag Officer died.

Before Flag Officer Liu Han died,

he was on duty.

Liu Han was just a small Flag Officer.

He wouldn't be able

to deceive his superiors and smuggle gunpowder.

Unless his superior

instructed him to do so.

After the task was completed,

his superior killed him to silence him.

Your words reminded me.

His superior is...

Baihu Zhou.

Let me ask you.

Was Liu Han one of your subordinates?

Yes.

Had he been acting strangely lately?

No.

He was just as usual.

Had anything suspicious

entered the Imperial City while he was on duty?

No.

Baihu Zhou Chixiong from the Insignia Guards.

Wait.

I've gazed at his aura.

He wasn't lying.

He might have used some trick.

In any case, we need to find him first.

Chief, take my Gold Badge,

hurry to the East Gate of the Imperial City,

and arrest Zhou Chixiong.

Get there before the Ministry of Justice.

Yes.

You all come with me.

Let's go.

The rest of you,

follow me to the Zhou Mansion

to arrest him.

Yes.

Mr. Chen,

where did they go?

What Mount Dahuang?

What saltpeter mines?

Mr. Chen,

do you know what they're talking about?

I know.

The case from the Municipal Office earlier.

The metal sodium

explodes.

Anyway, I don't remember it clearly.

The case files.

Hurry and bring out the case files.

Alright, alright.

Pig Brain, come here.

My Lord.

Go get the files.

Take your time.

Yes.

Are you crazy?

Hurry up.

Be patient.

The files will be here soon.

(Zhou Mansion)

Open the door!

The Guardians are on a case.

The Baihu is sick.

He's not seeing anyone.

My Lords, please leave.

Two men guard the gate.

The rest of you, rush in.

- Yes. - Yes.

Mr. Lead Investigator,

why aren't you charging in?

In the Battle of Linyuan Pass,

did you see His Majesty charging into battle?

You weren't like this earlier at the Ministry of Justice.

That's called a persona.

A persona?

I'm trying to leave an impression

of a tough guy who'll attack at the slightest provocation.

With such a persona,

if they want to take credit,

they'll have to think twice.

Mr. Xu, we've searched the house. There's no one.

All the valuables have been taken,

but the other furnishings are intact.

Where is Zhou Chixiong?

The Baihu and his wife,

along with the young masters,

went to visit their relatives.

Didn't you just say he was sick?

The Baihu said so himself.

I just followed orders.

When was this?

A few days ago.

On the day the worshiping ceremony ended.

My Lord,

what crime did the Baihu commit?

I don't know.

I really don't know.

Go.

Baihu Zhou has escaped.

It's too early

to say that now.

There's no corpse in the house,

and no one has died here recently.

It might be covered up with some trick.

Why don't you dig into the ground and search?

My Lord,

Baihu Zhou isn't at the Imperial City gate.

After the worshiping ceremony, he took a long leave.

He's escaped?

Whether he's dead

or alive,

this lead is cut off.

Come on, search!

Brothers, pack up.

Yes.

Move.

Where's Uncle?

He hasn't come back?

Mother has gone out to look for him.

I heard His Majesty

ordered you to investigate the Sangbo Case.

Yes.

What's wrong?

You can't afford

to get involved in this.

I'm just investigating.

I won't track down the big shots behind it.

I have to try.

After all, I was sentenced to die.

So, have you found anything?

The culprit have been found,

but he managed to escape.

He ran away?

Then you...

If you can't handle it,

you should run too.

I've just come out of the death row.

I haven't even warmed up my bed.

Besides,

our family doesn't have any allies outside.

Where can I escape to?

If the worst comes to the worst,

you can go to Yunzhou.

Yunzhou?

It's full of bandits,

far from the Emperor's reach.

Even if you're wanted,

the court can't do anything to you.

If you're really ruthless,

you can become a bandit

to practice martial arts and gain power.

Many of the criminals wanted by the court

and those desperate men from the underworld

all gather in Yunzhou.

That's right.

The more chaotic the place, the safer it is.

Wait.

Collaborating with the Kui

and blowing up Sangbo

is a capital offense,

punishable by exterminating his three families.

No matter where he runs,

the court won't let him off.

If you were Baihu Zhou,

where would you escape to?

Ningyan, are you sure about this?

It's Yunzhou.

Slow down.

What happened?

Why were you locked up in the Guardians' prison?

It's for Ningyan.

For Ningyan?

Yes.

It's for Ningyan.

As long as I can save him,

my life

is worth nothing.

Dear,

bring me my saber.

I promised his father

to protect him.

- Uncle? - Father.

Ningyan,

why are you here?

I got off work, so I came back.

You're fine now?

His Majesty issued an order

and reinstated Ningyan,

allowing him to make amends.

Everything's fine now.

Yes, everything's fine now.

But you

should take this

to get rid of the bad luck.

Alright, you all should rest early tonight.

I'm glad you're fine.

I'm glad you're fine.

Alright.

I'm fine now.

I'm glad you're fine.

Your Majesty,

the culprit broke into Sangbo

and blew up the Ancestral Temple.

It is truly a shame for our Dafeng.

Wei Yuan

is the leader of the Guardians.

He failed to protect the Imperial City.

He can't avoid responsibility.

Your Majesty,

(Wang Zhenwen, Cabinet Prime Minister) please dismiss him

Seconded.

(State Duke Cao) Seconded.

Wei Yuan

has always been diligent in his duties.

Rejected.

Stop slandering me.

Mr. Sun, do you still deny your crime?

How dare you twist the truth in the court?

You deceived His Majesty.

You obstructed the investigation.

- Quiet! - What are your intentions?

Copper Gong Xu Qi'an

is bearing a crime.

To redeem himself,

his actions

are bound to be extreme.

I will

punish you severely.

Father.

Why are you smiling?

I thought His Majesty would act today,

but unexpectedly,

we passed smoothly.

We passed smoothly?

No one used the chance to attack you?

(The Ministry of Justice shall work with the yamen.)

In just one day,

we've made such progress.

He's really good at solving cases.

Good at solving cases?

Are you talking about Xu Qi'an?

You're lucky

to find such a good talent.

It's a pity you were too late.

I've interrogated the Taikang County Governor.

The report has been submitted.

He said he didn't collude with the Kui.

I gazed at his aura.

He was lying.

Did you uncover the mastermind behind this?

The Gazing Spell

can only tell if someone is lying.

He didn't answer this question no matter what,

so I had no way to proceed.

It's alright.

I'm here.

I'll make him speak the truth.

Please come with me.

Old man, what's your name?

I...

I am Zhang Shen from Yunlu Academy.

Alright.

Then I'll tell my master

that the old man Zhang Shen from Yunlu Academy

said that the Heart Spell was better than the Gazing Spell.

I'll ask my master to talk to your Dean.

No need.

We all

have our strengths.

This is it.

Wake up.

Officials have questions for you.

Hey, you.

Are you deaf?

It's okay.

Whether he cooperates or not,

the result

will be the same.
