? ?

- Welcome to the Monster High Pet Scare.

- Flaunt your furry friends.

- Strut your scaly sidekicks.

- Share your pet's smarts.

- Don't miss my presentation about my pet rat Perseus,

coming up soon.

- Did you say "rat"?

- Toralei, don't you dare eat Perseus.

- Fine, but did you put together

this entire pet scare just to show off

how much you know about rats?

- Wouldn't you put together an entire pet scare

just to show off how much you know about cats?

- Well, yes, and now I wish I thought of it first.

- [flutters] Deuce,

I must admit that despite my premonition skills,

I find it surprising that you have a pet rat.

Snakes eat rats. - We used to.

But Deuce fell snakes over heels

for this rat he calls Perseus.

I call him dinner.

- Ah, Gluttony. Rats are amazing.

- Oh, I agree.

Just got one myself,

and I could use your expert help.

[flutters]

I foresee your presentation is gonna be very exciting.

And now I foresee I'm gonna check out some of the booths.

Ta-ta. - See that, Perseus?

An adult needs my help.

Call me Mr. Gorgon

'cause the Deuce dude's gonna teach a teacher.

- [chittering]

- Oh, right.

- [squeaks]

[pets growling]

- Work it, Hissette!

- All right, voltageous!

Go, Cleo.

Go, Hissette!

- Fresh from the publisher.

Twyla and I wrote this book about finding unusual pets.

Splitsee, we talked about this.

- Have you taught her anything new?

- Yeah. Roll over.

Stay.

Oh, good dog.

- She's not doing anything.

- But I told her not to do anything.

That's a big win.

- Anything more impressive?

- Uh, sometimes she shakes paws.

- [scoffs] Boring.

- These tricks are a big deal in the human world.

You have no idea how long it took me to teach her those.

- Please make your way to the stage

for rat expert Deuce Gorgon's presentation!

The presentation will start in two minutes.

Do not be late.

[clears throat] Uh-uh! No, Hissette.

I know you adore rats, but friends don't eat friends.

- All right, Perseus.

Ready for the big presentation?

We're going to help monsters learn all about you.

- Uh-uh.

- Aww, don't be nervous.

You're going to do great.

- [whimpering]

- What's wrong, little dude?

This isn't like you.

Oh, don't be like that. Come on.

It's almost showtime,

and Dr. Deuce has to show all he knows.

[screaming]

both: Surprise!

- Euryale! Stheno!

- That's right, the two best older sisters in the world

are here to support their little bro and Perseus.

- Mom-dusa said you have a big presentation?

- Yeah, it's going to be all about rats

since I've taken care of Perseus by myself

for my entire life.

[both laugh] - He's joking, right?

- Good one. - Uh, why are you laughing?

You know I hate it when you have your twin inside jokes.

- Uh, you mean you took care of Perseus

by yourself, except for when we did.

Like when you forgot to give him fresh water.

- Or when you went on a weekend field trip in grave school

and we watched Perseus the whole time.

- Or when we always took him to the vet for his checkups.

- What? No, not possible.

You probably thought I was an irresponsible snakelet

and did those things before I had a chance.

- Uh, right.

Deuce, are you sure Perseus wants to be part of the show?

- He has stage fright without his--

- Of course Perseus wants to be a part of the show.

He's my rat. I should know.

- And now, welcome Deuce and Perseus.

[applause]

- [squealing]

- Perseus! The show must go on!

- Deuce, that was your cue.

- Ugh! Fine.

You hold him. - OK.

Uh, please welcome to the stage Deuce and not Perseus.

- Not yet. I'll be right back.

Cleo, stall.

- [gasps] Get ready, spotlight.

It's Cleo de Nile's time to shine.

What time do vampires eat dinner?

Suck 30! Ha!

[microphone feedback whines]

[crickets chirping]

[phone rings] - Hey, Frankie.

Where'd you go?

Can I borrow Watzie?

He's probably got a little rat in him, right?

- Deuce! [chuckles]

Well, I was just heading to your presentation

to see how you care for a 100% genuine, real, authentic rat.

Hoo-hoo!

- Oh, yeah, right, exactly. A real rat.

Never mind, Frankie. Got to go.

- Isn't your presentation starting?

- Yes, I just forgot something from the catacombs.

- Careful now!

The catacombs can be dangerous.

- Then I was like, no slay.

And he was like, yes, slay.

[snoring]

But in the end, it was more of like a may slay

depending on the circumstances.

- Oh, I'm sure this is only a minor delay, folks.

[flutters]

I foresee Deuce will be back soon,

and this is going to be a very exciting presentation.

- Cleo, I'm ready

- Finally.

Fiends, family, students and faculty of Monster High,

welcome to Deuce's presentation

on everything you need to know about rats.

- [growling]

- Whoa, bro.

That's a bad idea.

- Deuce, that's a Ratticus Mimi--

- This is my presentation.

If you can't be supportive,

maybe you should just wait in the Coffin Bean

until it's over.

OK, on to my presentation-- rats!

- [screams]

- Ah! Is it supposed to do that?

- [hisses] - [screams]

[screaming]

[grunting]

[frantic music]

- [barks]

[both howling]

- Why does that rat have Gorgon power?

- [grunts]

[growling]

- [whimpering]

- [growling]

- Well, according to my boologist brain,

that's a Ratticus Mimicus.

It temporarily gains the powers of any monster it touches.

- Oh, rats.

- [grunting]

- Hmm.

- [screams]

[explosion]

? ?

[squealing]

- No, stop!

If you catch it, it'll just get your powers,

and who knows what will happen?

- [squealing]

[door slams]

[crashing and screaming]

- [gasps]

[clattering] [groaning]

- [chittering]

- [panting] - Deuce?

Is everything OK? - I need your help.

- Did the Ratticus Mimicus get your powers

and turn monsters into stone, and then it bumped

into other monsters and got their powers,

and you tried to catch it, but it got away,

and now it's wreaking havoc and everything's a mess?

- How'd you know?

- We tried to warn you. - [squeaks]

- Well, I guess I don't know nearly as much about rats

as I thought.

Maybe I am still just a know-nothing snakelet.

- What? Oh, absolutely not.

- No! No way. - But I need help.

- Asking for help is the mature thing to do, bro.

- Yeah. Nobody knows everything.

So knowing when to ask for help means you're really growing up.

- [chitters]

- They're right.

Unfortunately, we can't help you.

- But Perseus can.

- [chittering]

- The only way to depower a Ratticus Mimicus

is to calm it down.

- And the only way to do that is with another rat.

- [chittering]

- Of course we brought it.

We tried to give it to Deuce earlier,

but you know how he is.

- What are you talking about?

We have to go stop that rat.

- We taught Perseus to ride. [engine revving]

- When he's on a bike, he's totally confident.

No stage fright.

[engine revving]

[tires squealing]

[clattering and screaming]

- [growling]

[engine revving]

? ?

[squealing]

- Huh? - [grunts]

- Look out, Perseus!

- It's got Kuma's super strength.

- [screams]

[tires squealing]

- [growling]

- What is all this commotion?

It sounds like the time we had six banshee students

all in the same class.

- [squealing]

- Whoa! [grunts]

[engine revving] - [screams]

- Well, there's something you don't see every day.

- [grunting]

- [humming]

[pop music playing]

- Laguna, look out!

- If the Ratticus Mimicus gets her powers...

- It could disappear into the pipes,

and we'll never find it. - [screams]

- [humming]

- [screams]

- Oh, no! [squeaks]

- No!

[tires squealing]

- [squeals]

[both chittering]

- I'm so sorry, Seor Squeaky!

- Thank Zeus!

[both chitter]

- Did I miss something?

I feel like I missed something. - Nah.

It's just that the Ratticus Mimicus's head is back on,

and it stopped screaming.

- Oh, yes, we've all been there.

- [chittering]

Bye! - [squeaks]

[keypad beeps]

- Guess the Ratticus is going back to the catacombs.

Good job, Perseus.

- [chittering]

- And now, Deuce's all-new presentation,

now featuring Stheno, Euryale, and Perseus!

[engine revs]

Guest starring Hissette!

- A lot of monsters think that rats are pretty sedentary.

But actually, they love action.

- Oh, this is going to be wonderful!

- Whoo! [engine revving]

- [hisses]

[crowd gasps]

- Ta-da! [cheers and applause]

- That rat is amazing!

- [gulps] - Hissette!

Ahem.

- [chittering]

[playful spooky music]

? ?

[cool music]

? ?

- Hey, Heath. - Hey, hey!

- Your hair looks great today. - Thanks.

- Yeah! That high five was so hot.

- I know.

Hey!

- Hey! - Over here, bro.

- Lunch me up, Heads Chef.

- Purrito, extra spicy.

- Hot chocolate and a cupsnake.

- The Heath special.

- Whoa, check out that swagger.

- You're on fire today. - Yeah!

I feel like I could scorch anything.

I guess it's 'cause I'm on pretty good terms with my dad,

I've got a cool girlfriend, and the Climate Science

Leaders of Tomorrow presentation is tomorrow!

Ms. Ziz is gonna lose her head when she sees my project.

You know, in a good way.

I don't mean like last week when she was cursed.

- With that thermal battery, you're totally gonna be named

one of the Climate Science Leaders of Tomorrow.

- Yeah, dude.

I think your win is set in stone.

And I know about stone and things being set in it.

Just ask my purrito.

- Yeah, it's going to be lit, literally and figuratively.

Gah!

What? Who did that?

- Oops, sorry.

I saw a fire and didn't want anyone to get hurt.

- Everyone, I'd like to introduce--

- Jinafire?

- Aw, I wanted to say it.

- Oh, hi again.

We met at the Scareadise Resort in the Bermuda Triangle.

- Dreadful!

Jinafire is a new student at Monster High.

Please give her a horrifically warm welcome.

[cheers and applause] - Welcome to Monster High.

- Hi. - Hi.

- Welcome. - Welcome

- See you around.

- You won't find a warmer welcome.

As vice undersecretary of the welcoming committee,

I'll show you around. - No need.

I volunteered to be Jinafire's guide.

Oh, Heath, I just thought of the best way

to kick off Jinafire's Monster High tour.

You have to show her your climate science project.

Heath is basically a climate science expert.

- Wow! Impressive!

- Oh, well, I'm sure you're going to want

to see other stuff first.

- Well, if you don't want to--

- All right, I'll show you.

No need to pull my arm.

And if I'm showing you, I might as well show everyone.

Ghoulia and Deuce were just asking about it.

Let's go!

both: Whoa!

- Whoa. - Cool!

- It harnesses my elemental power

and recycles it as energy.

- Wow! A thermal battery.

That's really innovative.

Hmm, I bet if you raised the ambient temperature,

the battery would gain extra heat from its surroundings

and produce even more energy.

- Whoa. How did you know that?

- Climate science is actually kind of my thing

since I'm a dragon, and we can control the weather.

- You can control weather? How?

Mortimer's a dragon, and I'm pretty sure he can't do that.

- I'm from Fang-hai.

Chinese dragons are different and have different powers

than European dragons, like Mortimer.

See? - [gasps]

- Whoa! - Wow!

- So, uh, the climate's kind of your thing, huh?

- Jinafire, you should participate

in the Climate Science Leaders event.

- Oh, I don't know, but maybe I could.

I do have a couple of ideas.

- Oh, totally.

Sounds great.

The more the merrier, right?

- Let's go find some supplies. - Oh, I have some in my dorm.

- And I'll listen to a podcasket

to see if I learn anything that can help.

- Do you think she was trying to make my project look bad?

- Yes, she was.

She wants to be the best.

- You really think so, Envy?

- You're most knowledgeable about climate science, not her.

- Yeah, you're probably right, Pride.

I better keep an eye on her, then.

- Heath? Did you say something?

Huh, guess not.

- My thermal battery will--

- [laughter]

- What? They didn't even invite me.

- Ah! Laguna, you got my homework wet.

- My fire will dry that right away.

- I'll bring a breeze to dry it.

- Hey, thanks, Jinafire.

She's trying to get under my skin

and knock me off my game.

- With her powers, she wants to blow away the competition,

a.k.a., you.

- Oh!

[gasps] No!

She sabotaged my project?

Ah!

And she's always trying to one-up me, Dad.

And at climate science!

I mean, that's my thing!

- Son, I can completely relate.

Once, Belphegor was really gunning

for the same promotion as me.

He just wouldn't stop showing off.

Made me spitting mad.

- Yes, exactly.

She finds every opportunity to try to get attention.

But, like, we've all seen rain before.

It's not that amazing, OK, Jinafire?

- Wait a tick. Jinafire?

Jinafire Long?

She interned at Underworld Inc. last summer.

- Oh, really? And--and she's awful, right?

- Sure, if you mean awfully talented,

driven, and going places.

She's a leader of tomorrow if I've ever seen one.

- [groans] [phone dings]

Sorry, Dad, gotta go. Just got a text.

- Bye, son. Stay dangerous!

Be bad! [phone beeps]

- "Just saw Jinafire impressing everyone

"with her knowledge of screamhouse gases.

"Should've been you out there.

Love, Pride and Envy."

Deuce's snakes can text? Huh.

Ah, it doesn't matter.

We'll see who's the most impressive

at the presentation tomorrow.

- As you can see, when a dragon such as myself

summons rain clouds, they can elect

to have the excess rainwater teleported here

via this portal.

The water will collect in the barrel for future use.

- Wow, that is some fancy world-saving weather, Jinafire.

Well done!

- You should be getting that praise.

- Don't worry.

My project is gonna be top of the hot list.

- And next, we have Heath Burns with his thermal battery.

- That is mostly correct, Ms. Ziz,

but this isn't just a thermal battery.

It's a geothermal battery.

Regular geothermal power plants

use underground hot water for energy.

But what if we could harness an even more impressive,

more powerful type of power?

Not hot water. Lava!

How in the underworld is this possible?

Well, my device contains a feedback loop.

So when I charge it up with my flame powers,

it then charges me up,

and I can summon lava into this tank.

[cackles]

I shall now make the lava appear!

[tense music]

Prepare to be amazed!

[whirring]

- Attention, students.

It appears the rock beneath Monster High

has transformed into magma,

and Monster High will be consumed momentarily.

We're all doomed!

Have a dreadful night.

- Should we get out of here?

- Uh, magma does not sound ideal.

- Wait, what? My battery did that?

But I didn't mean to.

[sniffs] Yep, smells like magma smoke.

Yep, it's coming from under the school.

[metal clangs]

Everyone, everyone!

You can sit down and enjoy the rest of my presentation.

[indistinct podcasket chatter] I took care of it.

[all screaming]

- Wow, Eye-ra Gas's reporting style really is groundbreaking.

[screaming] [bubbling]

[metal clangs]

[dramatic music]

? ?

- [screams]

- [shrieks]

- [growling]

[explosion]

- Well, just when you think you've seen it all, folks.

I guess the contest is cancelled.

We all lose.

- I have to be able to do something.

Abbey, come on!

[both gasp]

Abbey, can you freeze the magma?

- All of it?

No, that's more than I can handle.

But maybe if I help--

Jinafire!

- No! - What? Why not?

We need all the help we can get,

and she can summon rain clouds and snow

and all the cold weather.

- Fine. I'll draw as much heat as I can from the ground.

You two bring the cold. - OK, Heath.

- On it. - [grunts]

[both grunting]

- Summoning cold weather.

- What's wrong?

Why didn't you want Jinafire to help?

- Oh, just let her come to the rescue

and clean up my mess when she's been trying

to upstage me ever since she got here?

At lunch, in the hall, in the lab--

- Heath, Jinafire has been nothing but nice all night.

And I know because I've been right by her side.

- We should ask Heath to come sit with us.

- Heath, over here!

He's more focused than a snow leopard on a hunt.

[both laugh]

- I need to get this dry before Mr. Mothmanson's class.

Could I get a little breeze power, Jinafire?

[whooshes]

[beeping]

- Heath must've left the battery turned on.

It's too hot. It's going to explode!

- We have to save it!

I can stop the overheating with cool rain.

[sighs]

We should go get some towels to clean up.

- In fact, I was just telling Jinafire

how proud I am of my boyfriend.

And Jinafire agreed that your project was amazing.

Because whatever problem you think you had

is just in your fiery head.

- It's working! The magma is retreating.

[rumbling]

- The threat has been mitigated.

Thank ghoulness.

Now get back to class, or you'll be tardy!

- I'm sorry.

I've been a real hothead today.

I guess I was worried you were going to be better than me

at climate science stuff.

But I shouldn't be worried about that

because we're on the same side.

- Right, it's not a competition.

I mean, there's no trophy for the Climate Science Leaders

of Tomorrow presentation.

- The presentation! Oh!

I have an idea.

- When I summon the rain...

- I heat it into steam, which flows through this pipe.

- The steam power is harnessed to be used as energy.

- And the condensation is captured in this barrel.

- So we have a reusable energy and rainwater recycling system.

- I think it's, uh--

boy, pause for dramatic effect--

amazing!

Good job, kids.

Bonus points for partner work and extra credit

for saving us all from the fiery doom.

[all cheering]

- OK, the project's pretty good.

Maybe we got a little bit carried away.

- Eh, just a little.

[all cheering]

[applause] - So hot!
