[Under the Skin Ⅱ]

[Episode 19]

You didn't sleep well again last night?

It's okay.

How did your talk with Ge Yutian go?

I think Ge Yutian

and Feng Xiaowen's relationship

is not as simple as it seems.

Wasn't Feng Xiaowen

Ge Yutian's godmother?

They were likely to have a romantic relationship.

And the chemical plant

is where they met.

For them,

it held special significance.

So Feng Xiaowen's death

must have something

to do with Ge Yutian.

The police station has sent over Feng Xiaowen's

missing person investigation files from back then.

They show

that she left the hotel

on April 20th

at 8:50 AM

two years ago

and then disappeared.

And on that very day,

April 20th,

the explosion

at the chemical plant happened.

Moreover, Feng Xiaowen's

last call

was to Ge Yutian.

But he didn't answer.

[Inquiry Room]

Are you sure that on the day of the fire,

he wasn't at the factory?

I specifically checked.

That day, Ge Yutian

was supposed to be at work,

but two days before the fire,

he took time off,

saying a family member was hospitalized

and he needed to look after them.

Yes, I was the nurse in that ward.

I remember him.

He was indeed looking after a patient in my unit.

Why do you remember him so clearly?

That day, the TV reported

about the chemical plant fire.

They mentioned there was a leak.

He was so shocked,

rushed out of the ward,

and called his colleagues

to ask about the situation.

Then I learned that

he worked at the chemical plant.

At the time, everyone said

he had a lucky escape.

When the fire broke out,

everyone was desperately trying to escape.

I was moving things at the time.

If I hadn't reacted quickly,

I would've lost my life.

Did you see this person

at the scene at that time?

We all freaked out.

Everything was chaotic.

Everyone was running for their lives.

No one paid attention to anyone else.

I remember now.

I think I saw this person.

I recall that, at that time,

everyone was running out,

but she was pushing her way in.

She even stopped me and asked to borrow my phone.

I was desperate to get out of there,

so I ignored her.

Are you sure you saw her?

I can't be sure.

But she looks somewhat familiar.

I remember

her gripping me so tight.

It was as if she had gone mad.

It's been confirmed that

on the day of the fire,

Ge Yutian was not at the factory,

and he couldn't have known

Feng Xiaowen

would be there.

On the day of the fire…

You must have gone there to find Ge Yutian.

The last four digits of the phone number?

1005.

Officer Shen.

What are you up to this time?

I want to give you a painting.

I hope this painting has captured

the beauty of Feng Xiaowen in your eyes.

What do you mean?

I think

everyone is wrong

about your relationship.

We've always thought

you asked Feng Xiaowen to be your godmother

to purposely get close to her.

Now I understand.

It was your way of dealing with

the prejudice from others.

Your relationship

must have been difficult, right?

Hello.

I'd like to ask

if Ms. Feng is here.

Your daughter has come to the troupe

to make a scene several times.

Rumors about you

have spread

in the whole troupe.

I didn't want to interfere.

In our line of work,

it takes a lifetime to build a good reputation,

but to ruin it,

just a few words will do, right?

Xiaowen,

you're the pillar of our troupe.

In others' eyes,

you're a respected artist.

That's what you've carefully built

over a lifetime.

I'm an artist. So what?

Don't artists have

the freedom to love?

That's not what I mean.

You know

how tough the opera market

is right now.

The higher-ups have long wanted to disband

our money-losing troupe.

It's because of your stellar reputation

that they haven't.

But look at what you've done.

You've given them a reason

to doubt the way you conduct yourself.

What have I done wrong?

So, as a widowed woman,

if I have a relationship,

I'm immoral?

It depends on who you're in a relationship with.

He's so much younger than you.

To put it mildly,

it's an age gap.

To put it harshly,

you're from different generations.

I'll do as I please.

It's none of anyone else's business.

Xiaowen,

do I have to

spell it out for you?

He's just an insurance salesman.

How old are you now?

You've weathered

all kinds of storms.

Can you see it?

He's just after your money!

Xiaowen.

I've said everything

I need to say.

You can not care

about our troupe.

You can not care

about Peking opera either.

But

please consider our decades

of hard work through thick and thin

and the young players

you've carefully nurtured

and trained!

I understand.

What are you doing here?

Here.

So beautiful.

Is this real or fake?

It smells so good.

Well…

When did you

buy that insurance?

And...

the beneficiary...

Why is it me?

What's wrong?

Is there a problem?

Shouldn't you have...

discussed it with me first?

What's there to discuss?

When I buy insurance,

shouldn't the beneficiary be my partner?

Sit down.

I heard…

what the troupe leader said

just now.

After what you did,

what would others think of us?

Does this matter

concern anyone else?

I've made up my mind anyway.

Actually, this insurance

is kind of

a promise…

for our future.

Do you know why

people get bolder as they get older?

Why?

Because...

Maybe it's because there are fewer things

they're afraid of losing.

Except for us,

no one believed

in our love.

So what happened then?

Why did you break up?

Then…

She chose you,

but you backed out, didn't you?

You...

I wasn't expecting you.

You didn't tell me.

Come on in.

Let me introduce you.

This is my daughter.

This is her fiancé.

They're getting married this Saturday.

Sit here.

I'll get you some water.

Let me do it.

Let me do it.

Let me.

It's fine.

Let me do it.

Let me.

It's fine.

Sit down.

Let me do it.

Mom.

I'm getting married.

I won't be able to keep you company as often anymore.

You should find someone reliable.

Otherwise,

you'll be all alone

and feel very lonely.

Well, I...

But you must be careful.

Don't get fooled by those

with bad intentions.

Come here, Mom. Listen.

Nowadays,

there are many swindlers out there

pretending to be harmless.

Although you're a reputed artist,

it may be hard for you to stay clear-minded

after being alone for so long.

Those swindlers

will use all sorts of sweet talk

to coax you.

By the time you realize it,

you'll have already been deceived.

Am I right?

What's wrong with you?

I can accept

a stepfather.

But he needs to be old enough to be my father.

Jun.

By the way,

is this your new disciple?

He's what you called…

I'm Ms. Feng's...

I'm Ms. Feng's fan.

I often watch Ms. Feng's operas.

Ms. Feng thinks highly of me.

So I asked her to be…

my godmother.

So you're her godson.

Then what should I call you?

Brother?

I happened to bring a gift today.

I didn't know about

your upcoming wedding.

I wish you

a happy and long marriage.

Congratulations. Here.

Accept it.

It's from my brother.

Thank you, Brother.

Thank you, Brother.

Thank you for

helping with my business.

In the future,

I won't bother you anymore.

You guys chat.

I'll take my leave.

Yes.

I backed out.

I didn't want her to bear

more pressure and criticism

because I loved her

and wanted the best for her.

But to be honest,

I was just a coward.

I chickened out.

Do you know why Feng Xiaowen's daughter

waited half a year

before reporting her missing?

She resolutely

cut ties with everything in her past

and came to Beijiang

to find you.

In the end, she still chose you.

[Happy Marriage]

Mom.

I'm leaving for my honeymoon tomorrow.

What are you doing?

Come.

You're already married.

I can rest easy.

Next,

you're about to start a new life.

As for me,

I'm also going to search for

my new life.

I've already resigned from the troupe.

You're going to find Ge Yutian?

I have

spent my whole life acting out love stories,

other people's love stories.

I really want…

I really want

to play in my own love story for once.

Just let me live for myself for once,

okay?

Mom!

If you leave,

we'll no longer be mother and daughter.

Sweetie,

please give me your blessing, okay?

I'll be happy.

When the chemical plant caught on fire,

everyone was running for their lives.

The ammonia tank is on fire!

Get out of here!

This way!

Out! Out!

The ammonia tank is on fire!

Everyone, get out!

Hurry!

Out! Out!

Excuse me,

have you seen Ge Yutian?

It's about to explode!

The ammonia tank is on fire!

Excuse me, have you…

have you seen Ge Yutian?

Could I borrow your phone?

Please, please.

Run! It's going to explode!

I need to call him!

Go!

Everyone, leave immediately!

Watch your step!

-Watch your step. -Ge Yutian.

Ge Yutian!

Everyone, get out!

Out, out!

Watch your step!

Ge Yutian!

Ge Yutian!

Ge Yutian!

Only Feng Xiaowen

ran against the crowd, rushing in.

She thought you hadn't answered your phone

because something had happened to you in the factory.

She was terrified.

Ge Yutian!

She was desperately trying to find you

and save you.

Ge Yutian!

Ge Yutian!

Ge Yutian!

Ge Yutian!

Ge Yutian!

Ge Yutian!

Ge Yutian!

Ge Yutian!

However…

In the end, she ran towards death.

So,

if I had answered that call…

I'm the one who caused her death.

I'm the one who killed her.

It's now confirmed

that Feng Xiaowen wasn't murdered,

and the second victim, Zhou Guoliang,

was the first victim.

Has the foreign object in Zhou Guoliang's mouth

been identified?

Yes.

It's calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate,

possibly from gypsum, marble,

or chalk dust.

We presume it's transferred

from the murder weapon used to cover

his mouth and nose into his respiratory tract.

Could the killer's profession

be related to sculpture

or interior decoration?

Go and find those around Zhou Guoliang

who fit this profile.

Okay.

I want to check the scene.

Captain Cheng,

Zhou Guoliang's wife is here.

Don't do anything rash.

Guoliang

was always cautious and sincere.

Everyone says real estate agents

make a profit

from the price difference and such.

But he never did that.

Everyone says he followed rules

when doing business.

He really didn't have any enemies.

Then do you know

if he had dealings with

anyone

who was a teacher,

a sculptor,

or worked in the renovation industry?

No teachers.

Sculptors are even less likely.

But since he worked in real estate,

he inevitably had to deal

with renovation teams.

Then did he ever have any conflicts

with the renovation teams?

He did,

but they were not serious.

They couldn't have led to murder, could they?

You were kneeling…

to him.

You were making a fist-and-palm salute,

also to him.

Why were you the only one sitting?

Why were you guys standing behind me?

This was a stage.

It's calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate.

It could be gypsum, marble,

or chalk dust.

We presume it's transferred

from the murder weapon used to cover

his mouth and nose into his respiratory tract.

White powder.

The evil character.

♫Venture into the tiger's den♫

Feng Xiaowen.

You were the leading role on this stage.

Do you know this person?

This is Zhou Guoliang, the real estate agent.

Yes.

However,

I haven't seen him for a while.

What's your relationship with him?

When his houses

needed repairs

or replacements for things,

he came to me.

Then did you have

any conflicts with him?

We didn't have any conflicts.

We actually got along quite well.

We often drank together.

You got physical once, right?

Yes, just once.

We were both drunk.

He said

I worked away from home for years

and my wife

must be fooling around with other men.

I lost it,

and we got into a fight.

B-But

we made up the next day.

He even called

to apologize to me.

Officer,

what happened to him?

He's dead.

D-Dead?

Officer,

it has nothing to do with me.

If you hadn't come to me,

I wouldn't even know he was dead.

I-I didn't kill him.

Alright.

No one said you killed him.

For the time being,

don't leave town.

Keep your phone on.

Okay, okay.

Feng Xiaowen's daughter.

What did she say?

She said Ge Yutian asked to meet her.

Let's go.

[Pizza Hut]

I called them.

Is it okay?

Of course.

Of course.

It's good to have

police officers here.

[Insurance Policy]

I'm really sad

about Ms. Feng's death.

Don't give me that.

My mom died because of you.

[Beijiang Life and Property Insurance Co., Ltd.] [Insurance Policy]

Although it's a participating insurance,

it's still

a considerable amount of money.

I've contacted

my former colleagues at the insurance company.

The money will be released soon.

This is a gift agreement.

If you don't see any issues,

please sign it.

You want to give it to me?

I asked you out today

just to tell you one thing.

Your mom and I…

I wasn't with Ms. Feng

for her money.

[Beijiang Life and Property Insurance Co., Ltd.] [Insurance Policy]

My mom is gone.

What use do I have for this money?

When my mom left,

I was so angry…

that I said she was not my mom anymore.

So I didn't know she was dead until half a year later.

When I think about

the harsh words I said to her…

I can't sleep.

I always thought

I did that for her own good,

but actually, it was just for myself.

[Beijiang Life and Property Insurance Co., Ltd.] [Insurance Policy]

She left this for you.

I won't go against

her wishes again.

This money

should make your life

a bit better.

Better?

The money is of no use to me.

My life won't get any better either.

Mr. Shen.

Come in.

You asked for a list of the famous plays

Feng Xiaowen acted in.

Here it is.

Feng Xiaowen won

many opera performance awards

for her role as Sun Shangxiang

in "Dragon and Phoenix Bringing Prosperity."

You think

this case is related to Peking opera?

My intuition tells me

this is just a play.

The comprehensive investigation

into the bodies

in the basement of the chemical plant

has concluded that

aside from Feng Xiaowen, who died accidentally,

the other five were murdered.

However, we haven't yet

found the original crime scenes

where these people were murdered,

nor have we discovered

any connections

between their murders and

the relocation of their bodies to the basement.

The only thing we can be sure of is that this is

an indiscriminate murder case.

However,

Mr. Shen and I

just discovered something.

Based on the perspective relationship

of the bodies' positions at the crime scene,

[Beijiang Criminal Investigation]

I've tried to recreate what happened.

Is that a theater stage?

Yes.

Do you remember the white powder

found in Zhou Guoliang's

respiratory tract?

If this white powder

was used in traditional opera,

how would it be used?

To paint a white face.

Correct.

Let's assume

Zhou Guoliang

played the white-faced evil character.

The one with a hunched back

was the elderly female role,

Li Hong.

Zhao Yuanqing,

with green eyes and a purple beard, was the painted-face role,

a tough male character.

Feng Xiaowen

played a demure female character.

Wang Mengxiao and Liu Fang

played two young female roles.

Then who's that one?

The martial male role.

All the bodies

have been accounted for.

Who played the martial male role?

Don't forget Guo Yuan.

But Guo Yuan is a woman.

How could she play the martial male role?

I haven't

figured that out either.

Look at this.

[Guo Yuan]

This is Guo Yuan's social media account.

That explains it.

Guo Yuan

was the martial male role.

We've found out about their roles,

but what exactly was this play?

"Dragon and Phoenix Bringing Prosperity."

My dad is an opera enthusiast.

He often took me

to watch this play when I was young.

I'm absolutely sure

it's "Dragon and Phoenix Bringing Prosperity."

I looked into Feng Xiaowen.

Her award-winning play

was indeed "Dragon and Phoenix Bringing Prosperity."

Let me tell you.

"Dragon and Phoenix Bringing Prosperity"

is a story set in the Three Kingdoms period.

Sun Quan wanted Jingzhou back

♫Liang Hong married Meng Guang in former times♫

and set up a honey trap.

He pretended to offer his sister

Sun Shangxiang in marriage to Liu Bei

but actually sent Jia Hua to ambush

and assassinate Liu Bei.

However, it was foiled by Zhao Yun.

In the end,

Liu Bei gained

the favor of Lady Wu,

and the act became reality.

He married Sun Shangxiang.

According to Mr. Shen's deduction,

Zhou Guoliang was Jia Hua;

Li Hong was Lady Wu;

Zhao Yuanqing was Sun Quan;

Feng Xiaowen was Sun Shangxiang;

Wang Mengxiao and Liu Fang were palace maids;

Guo Yuan was Zhao Yun.

Am I…

Mr. Shen,

am I right?

Absolutely.

No.

What about Liu Bei?

Where was Liu Bei?

Liu Bei was missing in this play.

Who was playing Liu Bei?

Liu Bei

was Ge Yutian.

He was also the director of this play.

Hello?

What?

Guo Yuan is missing?

Okay.

The police station called.

They said Guo Yuan left the hospital yesterday,

but after leaving,

she disappeared.

She hasn't returned to school yet.

Her classmates felt something was wrong,

so they called the police.

Go check

the surveillance cameras near the hospital

to see if there are any clues about Guo Yuan.

Okay.

Jiang Feng,

let's take some people to the hospital.

Okay.

It's Ge Yutian.

In "Dragon and Phoenix Bringing Prosperity,"

every role

was carefully chosen by him.

He chose Guo Yuan to play Zhao Yun.

He won't give up easily.

Du Cheng.

-We can't… -I know what you think.

Don't worry.

We'll save Guo Yuan.

Wait for my news.
