=Episode 14=

No. 1,

No. 3,

did you find my hideout?

Anyone there?

Why are you up this late?

Why wake us up?

What's wrong?

Mr. Jinlian,

the Anji House

has been found.

What?

How are you holding up?

Do you need help?

I'm fine.

They haven't found me.

What are you talking about?

What Anji House?

That place is

an abandoned ancestral hall on the east side.

It's a shelter for the children

I rescued.

I've been struggling

to support them these years.

Some homeless retired petty officials

and homeless children and seniors

live there, too.

Earlier today,

the court suddenly laid eyes on that place.

Clean it up.

Get rid of that shelf.

You...

Sir, we're renovating the ancestral hall.

Please step aside.

I'm here

to help you.

Make it clean.

Clean the roof later.

I thought

they meant to take

those people back for questioning to find me,

but...

they renovated that place

and gave us

the long overdue funds.

Retired officials went

to the Ministry of Revenue over and over

to get the money but got kicked out.

I knew

something must've happened,

or we wouldn't have received the money!

I see.

No. 1, you're

in the capital.

Did you do it?

(No. 1) No, not me.

No?

It was too noble. It couldn't be No. 4.

(No. 4)

It wasn't him.

If neither of them did it,

the only one left in the capital would be...

No. 3!

You're thinking too highly of me.

How could I command court officials?

You stay

out of this case.

I'll assign it to others.

It was Lord Wei.

(Rule With Virtue) Father,

the Anji House has been renovated.

The Guardians didn't go there.

Staff of the Ministry of Works repaired everything.

Good.

What's so special about this place

that you care about it so much?

Was it

involved in Earl Pingyuan's murder?

It's only a shelter for the homeless.

There's something else.

Yang Yan.

Yes.

Ask Li Yuchun to get it done.

Do you know what I mean?

Yes.

(Aid, 500 Liang for Mount Dahuang, Haoqi Tower)

Chief,

are we going to

hand out the supplies?

(Approval of Aid)

You're a bunch of pigs!

I thought you were good.

But you're dark and evil.

Drop the act.

Listen to me.

Either

bring Governor Liu back

or...

Scram!

Get out of here!

Don't obstruct the Guardians

in the course of our duty!

Arrest me now.

Come on!

Go ahead!

Arrest me!

Arrest us! Arrest us!

I...

Don't.

Arrest us!

Arrest all of us here!

Come on!

(Waigou Village)

The bun got dirt on it.

This isn't the first time.

Just do the right thing.

Chief,

would you like a bun?

I have no time to eat.

I'm busy.

Get lost!

The Governor of Taihang was arrested.

I thought Lord Wei would be lenient.

He had his reason.

You reminded me

the locals suffered from heavy taxes.

If Mount Dahuang was sealed,

their life would be miserable.

You had me put in a good word for the Governor.

Guess

what Lord Wei said.

What was it?

Mount Dahuang is rich in Yanxiao,

but how did Kui know that?

Not to mention it's right under our noses.

Are you saying

someone is Kui's spy?

Mount Dahuang is in Taikang.

The Governor didn't report anything to cover the Kui's traces.

Is he their spy?

He's in the Municipal Office's custody

and being questioned as we speak.

But

Miss Chu has found out

about his espionage via the Gazing Spell.

All thanks to Lord Wei.

How interesting.

What do you mean?

Lord Wei abhors evils as deadly foes

yet always helps those in need.

He's in a cyan robe all day,

enjoying tea, books, and the game of Go.

He doesn't look like a leader at all,

but he's meticulous

and sharp.

I heard he can't fight either.

I don't understand

how he became the head of the Guardians

and the Censorate.

Is that what you think about him?

In my eyes,

he's not the one you see.

Back in the day,

he safeguarded the state

with his wisdom and martial arts.

He was formidable.

No one knew how high his rank was.

Keep up!

In the Battle of Linyuan Pass 19 years ago,

as the Commander-in-chief,

he crushed the fierce Yao and Kui

from the north

that were said to be invincible

within a few months!

Fire!

Lord Wei

gained matchless merits in this battle.

He saved the Dafeng,

and he was honored as

the God of War of the Dafeng!

The high-ranking fighters in the state

have been following him since then.

Thanks to his guidance,

they've become as skilled as they are now.

So,

do you get it now?

Good!

I only heard

about Duke Zhenbei's heroic deeds.

But now, I think

Lord Wei is even greater.

How come he can no longer fight?

Shortly after he built the Guardian Yamen,

he abandoned all his skills.

Why?

No one knows

or talks about it.

He doesn't want others to bring it up either.

So you'd better

not mention it.

Didn't that constable go to Mount Dahuang with us for a case?

Municipal Office.

Mr. Xu, there you are!

Miss Chu asked for you.

Chu Caiwei?

Yes.

Did you kill him?

- No. - No.

You may go.

Next batch.

Did you kill him?

- I didn't. - No, not me.

You may go.

Miss Chu, Mr. Xu is here.

Xu Qi'an,

you've finally come!

What's going on here?

It's all your fault.

Your idea of slacking off is stupid!

My idea?

What's wrong?

I used your idea,

pretending to be sick

to not go to the office.

Chen Hanguang granted my request.

Wasn't that good?

Not at all!

That man is

a cunning old fox!

He said I didn't need to go to the office

because I'd be doing fieldwork.

In terms of fieldwork,

basically,

I have to check all the suspects one by one

with the Gazing Spell!

I can handle a few,

but look at the crowd outside.

There are hundreds of them.

I've been casting that spell

day and night for days.

It's making me dizzy

and sick.

Right.

That spell can help solve cases.

Why didn't I think of that?

Whatever.

I can't do it anymore.

Now that you're here,

this case is all yours.

Let me see.

(Interrogator: Chu Caiwei)

(Municipal Office: Case Summary) "The victim, Liu Han,

was a petty Flag Officer at the gate.

He was killed late at night yesterday

and died on the table.

Everywhere else was left untouched.

Nothing was lost.

No sign of forced entry was found.

The victim probably knew the killer.

He sat upright in his chair.

Given the angle of his head,

he died instantly

without struggling.

Looks like he not only knew the killer

but also held him in awe or feared him.

How do you know that?

When people stay in their studies,

normally, they sit, relaxed

and laid-back

instead of being upright

and stiff like the victim

unless he had to

treat the one in front of him respectfully.

That makes sense.

The case file also says

he didn't have visitors last night

or make any enemies lately.

Perhaps

we should question his direct supervisor.

That's a Baihu of the Insignia Guards.

He's waiting outside.

Send him in.

Yes.

Please let him be the last one!

Baihu Zhou,

tell me,

did Liu Han serve under you?

(Zhou Chixiong) Yes.

(Insignia Guard) Was he strange lately?

No.

When he was guarding the gate,

did anyone or anything suspicious enter the city?

No.

Could he hide it from you?

We have tons of guards at the gate.

Bribing him alone

was useless

unless

they were all bought over.

Or they only

needed to bribe you, right?

What are you implying?

Baihu Zhou,

I'm asking routine questions.

Please be cooperative.

I didn't take bribes.

Aren't you a Guardian?

Feel free to investigate.

I, Zhou Chixiong,

have done nothing wrong.

Is there anything else?

I need to return to work.

If not, I'm leaving.

Thanks for your time.

Is what he said true?

Absolutely.

How come?

Did I think too much?

Miss Chu,

180 more people are outside to be checked.

Shall we continue?

What?

I'm going back to my office.

You may go on with your work.

What?

"Leave first".

You taught me that.

It's the 7th way to slack off.

You cannot leave me here alone.

No more gazing or I'll go blind.

Help me, please!

Pretty please!

Do you know

eye exercises?

6, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

7, 2...

Close your eyes.

3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

My vision's become much clearer!

Do them regularly

every morning and evening

for a quarter each time.

They'll relax your eyes and mind.

They're wonderful.

Are there more moves? Teach me.

I'll introduce such exercises to the Bureau.

There's one more.

It's to

press the temples

while brushing eye sockets.

Press thumbs against the temples.

Brush eye sockets with index fingers.

Brush up and down

in turn.

Press gently!

Don't kill yourself.

Easy. Less pressure on the temples.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

2, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

3, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

(South Gate)

(Sipai Community)

Sangbo was the Xuanwu Lake in history.

(Sangbo Ceremony, Gengzi Year, Jiazi Day) The founder of the Dafeng

obtained the Supreme Sword here.

With that sword,

he meditated in the lake for three years.

When he

broke out with it,

he reorganized his force

and became invincible.

(Carry on Legacy) He overthrew the last dynasty

and united the Central Plains.

This is where he achieved his way

and the origin of the Dafeng.

The capital was built near Sangbo, too.

Later,

ancestors' tablets were enshrined in the middle of the lake

to pray for

forever peace.

(Forever Peace) That's why we have this ceremony.

People are

proud of such a legend,

making it a well-known urban tale.

Ningyan,

did no one tell you?

How come you didn't know?

Is that all?

Go on. Say something else.

Or I'll fall asleep.

Due to the great significance of Sangbo,

His Majesty always attends the ceremony

with other members of royalty

and court officials.

That's all.

Carry on.

Keep talking. Go on.

We the Guardians always

stay in the dark

to protect the imperial family.

Our job seems dangerous,

but the risks are low.

Among the masters here,

the number of those

above the 4th Rank is two-digit.

Don't fall off the cliff.

Why are you so weak?

What's wrong with you lately?

You always look drowsy.

Were you with girls behind our backs?

No.

Lord Wei said I was stuck in the Qi Stage.

I have to stay up to push my limits.

Then my stage will be stabilized.

The Spirit Stage?

What?

You've reached the Spirit Stage?

I don't know why,

but I have a really strong feeling.

I can't hold it for too long.

- You... - You're talkative.

Keep talking then.

Talk to him.

Uh, I...

The Sangbo Lake is beautiful.

It's deep

and abounds with fish.

I don't know anything else!

Keep going.

I... Ningyan!

(Emperor Yuanjing)

(Empress)

(His Majesty only has two princesses.)

(Is she Lin'an?)

Over there, Your Highness!

Stop. I'm in the zone.

Look over there!

What's he doing here?

Drive him away!

Yes.

By the Princess's order,

all of you shall watch closely from here.

Do not take one step forward.

Princess?

Why did she give us that order?

What can we do from this far?

Gaze into space?

(Could it be Lin'an?)

(I turned down her offer.)

(Now, she's giving me a hard time.)

(She's indeed petty.)

(Forever Peace)

(Duke Yu's Wife, Duchess Yu)

Lin'an.

Aunt.

You haven't come to my place for a long time.

The pomegranates are ripe,

but no one eats them.

Have you

heard from Pingyang lately?

A few days ago,

I received news from her.

She said

she was fine.

You don't need to worry.

That's good.

Good.

Aunt,

Father will initiate the ceremony.

Lin'an,

come to visit me whenever you can.

The worship ends.

Greet His Majesty.

Between heaven and earth,

the land spreads.

(Founding Father Emperor Dewuzong's Tablet)

The Dafeng's power

grows without limit.

Only my devotion

can build a prosperous state.

As the waters

run ceaselessly,

His Majesty's glory

will last eternally.

How grand!

I never saw this in my previous life.

If only we could get closer.

We can't see much from this far.

I know.

The Dafeng royalty worships their ancestors today.

Right, No. 1 and No. 3?

(No. 6) Counting the days,

the worshiping ceremony is today.

(No. 1, No. 3) No. 1 is offline.

So is No. 3.

Interesting!

(Oh no.)

(No. 2 is sounding me out on my identity.)

(But No. 1 didn't respond either.)

(No. 1 must be here, too.)

Who is it?

Help me!

Help me!

Do you hear anything strange?

The ceremonial music?

It does sound a bit

too loud.

Help me!

Help me!

(Carry on Legacy)

Ningyan, don't...

They can see us.

Stop...

Come on. Stand up.

Or you'll be scolded again.

Father,

something's wrong over there.

Do you hear nothing at all?

Nothing.

I bet you were with girls without telling us.

You're so weak that you're hearing things.

Help me!

I'm hearing it again. Listen.

Stop looking!

Everything...

(Forever Peace)

(Carry on Legacy)

(Emperor Dewuzong's Tablet)

Your Majesty!

Protect His Majesty!

Protect His Majesty!

Yang Yan!

Protect the Empress.

Lin'an.

Go! Protect His Majesty!

Let's go, Princess!

Princess!

Move!

- Princess. - Princess!

Are you alright, Princess?

- Princess? - Princess?

I, Xu Qi'an,

am here to protect you.

Are you hurt, Grand Princess?

I'm fine.

You shouldn't have come.

Leave now.

Go!

Yes.

Are you Xu Qi'an?

I am.

You must be...

Silence!

Your Majesty,

I failed in my duty.

Let no one in.

Yes.

So what if you were 1st Rank?

You would've had a much longer life,

but it was shortened by worldly energy.

You barely outlived ordinary people.

I ascended the throne at 20.

I defeated all my enemies

to hold on to that chair.

No one could threaten me anymore.

But in the end, it turns out

that my biggest enemy

is time.

(Forever Peace)

Your Majesty.

Proceed with the ceremony.

Yes.

Proceed with the ceremony!

Grand Princess,

the ceremony is over.

Where are we going?

Be quiet.

You'll know when we're there.

Oh.

Wait, where...?

Off you go.

Grand Princess,

what's going on?

Did I do something wrong?

Why leave me in the middle of nowhere?

Lin'an is interested in you.

I don't want you near her.

But this is too far!

Otherwise,

what if she catches up?

Let's go.

This incense is Being With the Moon.

It'll be with you as me.

The moon is you

that I see.

Shangguan Xixue!

You'll be the Empress.

Stay away from that lowly man!

- Father. - Guards.

Seize him!

Take her back!

- Xixue! - Father!

- Xixue! - No!

Xixue!

Father.

Father.

Here are all the records of the Sangbo Lake.

Did something bad happen?

No.

(Notes on Sangbo)

The sword in the Ancestral Temple awakened.

(No. 1) Now, it's become quiet again.

Emperor Yuanjing stayed in the temple for a quarter

and did heaven knows what.

Then the ceremony continued.

You were there, indeed, No. 1.

Before the energy of the sword soared,

I saw a gust of demonic energy

condensing over Sangbo.

I sensed it, too.

But then

it darted away.

So

during the ceremony,

a demon or a demonized man was near the capital.

(No. 1) The sword sensed it and awakened,

scaring it away.

But with Supervisor in the capital,

who would dare

raid the city?

Maybe it wasn't a raid,

but something is hidden in Sangbo.

(No. 1) No. 3,

what makes you say that?

(No. 6)

One of my friends

heard cries for help from the lake.

Is something sealed

in that lake?

No. 1,

you're from the Dafeng.

(No. 9, No. 1) Do you know?

(No. 1) No way.

If something were there,

I would receive the news.

No. 1 is

powerful in court.

That means

only royalty

or only Emperor Yuanjing knows that.

(No. 1) I'll try to find out what it is.

(The Dafeng's 13 Rites)

I think I know what it is.

Is something hidden

in the Sangbo Lake?

(The Dafeng's 13 Rites)

That's not something you should know.

Forget what happened today.

Don't dig into it.

Don't talk about it.

- Yes. - Yes.

Your Highness,

(Moon Palace) Princess Lin'an

recruited Xu Qi'an as you days ago.

I don't understand.

Why not

unmask her?

Let her be.

Any updates on Lord Wei?

After the ceremony,

he had Yang Yan go to the Bureau,

but Supervisor said

he was too sick to see him.

He and Eunuch Yang sent by His Majesty

didn't ascend the Star Tower.

What should we do next, Your Highness?

Keep watching Sangbo,

especially the Supreme Sword.

If anything happens,

- let me know immediately. - Yes.

Do you have any ideas?

No? Then keep thinking. Come on!

Shut up and use your brain!

You can't offer anything.

Don't be so full of yourself.

Do you have an idea?

They keep fighting.

Have they figured out a way?

Stop.

Don't worry too much.

We pulled through earlier, didn't we?

We did this time,

but Huaiqing is too smart.

She'll see through my trick soon.

Besides, many people saw me talk to him.

If someone digs into it,

my cover will be blown.

So what? That's fine.

We can always find another poet.

No!

I can't let him go.

Your Highness,

are you falling for Copper Gong Xu?

Falling for him?

He's a humble Copper Gong,

while I'm

the First Princess of the Dafeng.

Really?

When he darted over to save you earlier,

why did you cling on to him?

Are you teasing me?

I wouldn't dare.

I need ideas! Think!

Why look at me?

Your Highness, I have an idea

to make him remain loyal to you

to death.

But it's somewhat...

Say it. Don't leave me hanging.

Make him a kept man.

Make him a kept man?
