[A Love Story of Oiled Paper Umbrella]

[Episode 12]

[Nan's Umbrella Shop]

My real name

is Baize Yi.

I'm the only descendant

of the Baize family, once prominent demon hunters

eliminated by the imperial court over ten years ago.

All these years, I've endured humiliation

just to get back

the Scroll of Mountains and Seas

my father accidentally lost back then

to suppress ten thousand demons.

Scroll of Mountains and Seas.

To suppress ten thousand demons.

Chirp, you're here.

Come on.

Okay.

Have a seat.

Why do you look troubled?

What happened?

Nothing.

Let's eat, Master.

Here.

Lately,

I've found little birds increasingly cute.

What's wrong?

Is it not cooked

or too hot?

Master,

if you master the Big Dipper Primordial Spell,

will you

catch me

with the Scroll of Mountains and Seas?

We haven't found the Scroll of Mountains and Seas

yet.

What if it is found?

Even so, I won't do it.

Talk is cheap.

How can I trust you?

I saw you

catch nine water demons all at once

without mercy.

If I hadn't killed them,

they would have killed you and other innocent people.

Chirp,

I did it to protect you.

All right.

Don't overthink it.

Don't push me away again.

Do you hear me?

If he can't master the Big Dipper Primordial Spell

and can't find the Scroll of Mountains and Seas for his life,

perhaps,

it'll be a good thing.

Situ Hanshan,

you are so cruel.

To my surprise, you killed your own kinds

to use their Demon Pills to restore yourself.

But unfortunately,

their Demon Pills in my body

still can't avoid my influence.

If you don't agree

to fulfill my wish,

I will keep pestering you

until

you die here.

Wish. Wish.

Don't you just want your daughter to call you father?

Fine,

I promise you.

If my wish is fulfilled,

my obsession

will be gone forever.

Tell me

what I should do.

[Exclusively Crafted Imperial Tribute Umbrella]

My father

is not in Changle City these days.

If you're in a hurry,

I'll fix the umbrella.

But

why do you suddenly come to repair the umbrella?

Well,

Yuelian

is going to celebrate her eighteenth birthday.

You mean giving her a broken umbrella to celebrate her birthday?

To be honest,

it is something left by her mother.

I want to fix this umbrella

and give it to her

to ease our tense father-daughter relationship.

In that case,

I'll fix this umbrella.

Master.

The plum blossoms on the umbrella

have indeed blossomed.

When you get married,

I will make you an umbrella

to marry you.

Master, are you that confident

I will marry you?

Seems that I don't behave well.

I have to work hard in the future.

Meng Xizhou,

why did you ask me to come to the umbrella shop?

Why do you

have this umbrella?

This is the umbrella

that your father asked Nan Fengyi to fix for you.

Du Fenglei?

Why...

Why would he come here to fix it?

I can see

that your father

loves you.

Do you know what Du Fenglei was like

when he was young?

He should be the same as he is now.

He is not ambitious,

always acting like

he's not interested

in anything.

When he was young,

he only cared about

his demon-catching career.

Dazhou was not peaceful at that time.

There were always endless demons left outside.

So my mother and I

gradually got used to loneliness

while we were waiting for him.

And then?

Mother,

where are you going?

[Du's Mansion]

Stay at home with me.

[Young Du Yuelian]

[Mrs. Du]

Silly girl,

your father finally got time today.

He asked me to go to Xunyang Restaurant

to watch a play with him.

Father finally got time to accompany you once.

I won't make a scene.

I'll wait for you to come back.

I'll bring you delicious food,

okay?

Gao Sheng.

Bring Master's favorite Biluochun.

Got it.

Madam, it's ready.

[Xunyang Restaurant]

Madam,

here's your hot tea.

Enjoy yourself.

I'll drink it when Master comes.

Madam,

Master...

Master has something else to do.

He can't come again.

I see.

It's raining outside.

Master said

you can use his umbrella on your way back.

Madam.

Okay.

Master

also said,

in a few days,

he'll find time

to watch the play "A Wish for the Next Life" with you.

Okay.

Look,

I didn't lie to you, did I?

Your mother is back.

Mother!

Madam!

Mother!

Madam!

Madam, please hang in there.

Master will be here soon.

Madam, hang in there. Madam.

It's not Du Fenglei.

I killed the wrong person?

Mother!

Mother!

No wonder Nan Fengyi said,

after Lord Du killed the Scorpion Spirit,

he couldn't pull himself together.

Turns out

there is such a story.

But maybe,

you're not the only one

who is in great agony.

Would Du Fenglei

be in agony?

Maybe tears

didn't run down your father's face

but in his heart.

Your father said

your mother's surname was Mei.

So he specially asked us

to turn the traces of the blood

into the pattern of plum blossoms.

This umbrella

can be with you

for a longer time

after the repair.

Mother.

Mother.

No wonder Du Yuelian hates demons so much.

If this happens to me,

I might not be able to let it go.

The endless hatred

between humans and demons

is hard to overcome.

[Celestial Master's Mansion]

Junior,

happy birthday.

Today is my birthday.

I even forgot about it.

You did,

but Master didn't.

Let's go.

Let me show you.

Today

is your birthday.

Master started to arrange this

a few months ago.

Look at these dishes.

These are all your favorite dishes.

Especially this longevity porridge.

Master

specially asked the cook from Huyu Restaurant here to cook it.

Yuelian,

I'll be glad if you like it.

Don't just stand here.

Sit down, please.

Here.

I haven't seen you for a few days.

I was worried just now.

I thought

I wouldn't see you again tonight.

The flood control of the Lingshan Garrison

is almost over.

I've been busy with these things lately.

30% of the refugees

have been placed in the refugee camp.

The rice provisions given by His Highness

have been distributed by porridge shops.

Junior,

today is your birthday.

Let's talk about these things tomorrow.

You

are a birthday girl today.

You should enjoy your birthday.

In doing so,

Master's efforts

will mean something.

Am I right, Master?

Yes.

You're right.

Tonight,

I just want you to be happy.

I fetched the umbrella

you wanted to fix.

Show me.

It's so beautiful.

It's like the withered trees welcoming a revival.

Plum blossoms are blossoming.

This way,

your mother

will be with us forever.

Thank you.

From now on,

can you call me father?

How about

you say it now?

It's okay. It's okay.

We can't force her.

She can call me father

when she wants to.

Then... Let's eat something.

Let's eat something.

Junior,

try this longevity porridge.

Try it.

You should try it too.

What's wrong?

You don't like it?

Coriander tastes weird.

Junior,

let me propose a toast to you.

Happy birthday

to you.

I've thought about it for a long time.

I have to do something.

I'll teach you how to break the demon-catching techniques.

Master,

each technique has its weaknesses.

If I master it,

in the future,

even if you master the Big Dipper Primordial Spell,

it

may be broken by me.

Even so, I'm willing to make you feel safe.

Although

this is against the right way of catching demons,

I'm willing to do so

to protect you.

First of all,

I will teach you

how to switch between human form and demon form.

This is a practical lesson.

You transformed into demon form,

so I cast a spell on you

to help you maintain your human form

and keep away the demonic aura.

If someone breaks the spell

and you transform into demon form,

you can recite a spell:

Moduonan,

Dulu Dulu,

Diwei Suoha.

Then you can resume human form.

On the contrary,

if you're in human form,

by reciting this spell,

you can instantly transform into demon form.

Moduonan,

Dulu Dulu,

Diwei Suoha.

Got it, Master.

I'll try it

now.

Moduonan,

Dulu Dulu,

Diwei Suoha.

[Celestial Master's Mansion]

It's the best Biluochun.

Please have a taste.

You've given up the habit of drinking tea

for many years.

Why

have you picked it up again lately?

You haven't washed your sweaty feet

for more than ten years.

But now you wash them every day.

I've become more hygienic lately.

What's wrong with that?

You used to

feel hot,

but now you're afraid of coldness.

Of course,

even though you

have given up these trivial habits,

you even forgot

coriander is your favorite.

Are you still my master?

Or,

are you a human

or a demon?

Just cut to the chase.

No matter what you are,

I

only want to pursue my career!

Keeping me

will be good for you.

If there's something inconvenient to do in the future,

I

will follow you and serve you well!

Aren't you afraid of death?

Yes.

I'm most afraid of living a mediocre life and achieving nothing.

I'm also afraid that Junior...

If I can live a wealthy life

with you,

I'm not afraid of death!

I can help you get rid of Nan Fengyi,

as well as Meng Xizhou with Demon-Recognizing Pupils.

Are you so sure

you can get rid of both of them?

Do you want to know

who Nan Fengyi really is?

Have you found it?

Guo Ji.

Yes.

I now order you

to thoroughly investigate the case of Nan Fengyi colluding with the demon.

Yes, My lord!

[Celestial Master's Mansion]

Du Fenglei!

You jerk!

I did what you said!

Why are you still torturing me?

Have you forgotten?

Once Yuelian calls me father,

I'll disappear.

If she doesn't do so,

what can I do with her?

I couldn't make it realized all my life,

let alone you.

Yuelian,

what's wrong?

Why are you looking at me like that?

Today

is Mother's death anniversary.

Have you forgotten?

I've been too busy lately.

I even forgot such an important matter.

It's my fault. It's my fault.

It's okay.

I burned joss paper for Mother this morning.

I was careless.

On my way back,

I passed by Xunyang Restaurant.

The play you and Mother didn't get to watch

is put on again.

Really?

Do you still remember the name of the play?

Of course not.

Once Yuelian

calls me father,

I'll disappear.

Yuelian,

how about

we go to watch the play together?

Just take it as compensation

for your mother.

Really?

Yes.

Okay.

[Xunyang Restaurant]

Back then,

Mother also booked the entire place.

She used to sit here.

Today,

we're sitting where she used to sit.

Wanping,

today,

I came here with Yuelian

to watch the play with you.

What's the name of this play?

"A Wish for the Next Life."

What is it about?

A poor scholar

falls in love with a rich girl.

After they make a solemn pledge of love to each other,

the scholar goes to take the exam.

But he never comes back.

It's said

he must have passed the exam and forgotten her.

The rich girl is getting old, left all alone.

Liang Sheng,

I've waited for you for the rest of my life.

Maybe, you

have long forgotten the promise

to marry me.

After drinking this bowl of Soup of Oblivion,

I

will let you go.

Mengru,

I've never

forgotten our promise.

Liang Sheng.

I didn't go anywhere.

After leaving you,

I went to the capital to take the exam.

But I met a robber on the way.

I died tragically.

In order to wait for you,

I gave up the chance for reincarnation.

By the Bridge of Oblivion,

I've waited for you for six decades.

Why didn't you tell me earlier?

I drank the Soup of Oblivion.

Once you walk over the bridge,

you can reincarnate into the next life.

I don't want to start over!

I don't want you

to stay here forever!

To meet with someone who truly understands you is already fulfilling.

Isn't that what you said?

I can't forget you.

Hanshan,

let's go home.

Master,

do you really want to do so?

How could I

forget our promise?

Master,

I really miss you.

I've never left you.

What's going on here?

Yuelian,

what are you doing?

Situ Hanshan,

you want me to believe that you are Du Fenglei?

No way.

Situ Hanshan,

your men

are either taken away by Nan Fengyi,

or

guarded by those from the Court of Judicature and Revision

outside Xunyang Restaurant.

There are only three of us

left here.

Turns out you asked Nan Fengyi

to take Guo Ji and my men away.

If not,

how could you come with me?

You've known something is wrong with me since earlier,

right?

Of course.

In the case of the Lingshan Guard,

you deliberately took Nan Fengyi away

and lured me out.

You almost got us killed underwater.

At first, we thought

it was just a certain demon that did this.

But when we saw the bodies of Fan Yong

and the nine demon children,

and when the Demon Pill disappeared,

we assumed

the mastermind

was not simple.

Du Fenglei and I

had a promise.

Only if one of us dies

one day,

Mother's umbrella will be sent for repair.

But if Du Fenglei had been alive,

he wouldn't have had it repaired.

I knew

Du Fenglei

was not that simple.

He asked me to fulfill his wish

just to deliver information to you.

Although you use his skin,

you will never become him!

Since my mother passed away,

Du Fenglei stopped drinking Biluochun.

He even stopped drinking tea.

Everyone in Changle City knows

what Right Chancellor Situ Hanshan hates the most

is coriander.

You two little girls

want to kill me?

Dream on!

Five-thunder Flame.

Break!

Yuelian!

Du Fenglei!

Du Fenglei.

Du Fenglei?

Yuelian,

attack my leg.

My leg is his weakness.

I've trapped his flesh body

with Five-thunder Flame.

Du Yuelian,

hurry up!

It...

It hurts so much!

Stop, Yuelian!

Yuelian,

don't listen to him!

Today is the best time to kill him!

Kill my flesh body!

Yuelian,

are you willing

to watch me die without doing anything?

I'm your only family

in this world!

Yuelian,

don't bother about me.

Kill him

with my Qi Sword!

Yuelian,

what should you do if I die?

I can't hold on any longer!

No.

I can't do it!

Situ Hanshan,

a protective barrier formation has been set up here

by Nan Fengyi.

You can't escape!

Du Yuelian,

I didn't expect

that you would be so weak at such a critical moment!

He is Situ Hanshan!

Don't let your father die in vain!
