[A Love Story of Oiled Paper Umbrella]

[Episode 9]

Go help me check Nan Fengyi

and his father,

Nan Sixu.

However...

I'm afraid I won't be able to handle it alone.

You want Yuelian to go with you, right?

When it comes to crucial moments,

I

still need to rely on Junior Yuelian.

I've long seen through...

your feelings for her.

However,

she's my daughter,

and I know her very well.

Men are nothing

but obstacles in her career.

Just give up.

Master,

please help me.

I really like her.

I also want to work hard

to be good enough for her

and give her a better life.

My daughter

won't yield to either gentle persuasion or forceful demands.

She would listen to me, her father,

let alone yours.

Give up.

Gentle persuasion or forceful demands...

I'm sorry, Junior.

Senior!

What are you doing here?

Master,

Master has asked me to tell you

that we don't have to go to the Crown Prince's

Coming-of-Age Ceremony tomorrow.

Where are we going then?

He's sent...

sent us

t-to check Nan Fengyi and his father's household register.

Check if his father or mother was a demon

or had something to do with demons.

Right.

Got it.

If that's all,

you can go now.

Okay.

Then, I'm off, then.

In the future,

don't come into my room without permission.

Or I might kill you as a thief.

I won't do it again.

I'll change. I promise.

I won't come in again.

Leave.

Since you're here,

don't hide anymore. Come out and let's talk.

Your power

far exceeds that of a fourth-level demon hunter.

You almost reach the fifth level, right?

Your relationship with Meng Xizhou

should just be to cover up your true identity.

You didn't just come here

to ask this;

you came to watch me transform into a demon, right?

You said

that the Crown Prince has the dragon aura.

Demons can't hurt him.

If you were really a demon,

you wouldn't be so stupid

as to kill the Crown Prince,

who can't be harmed by demons, in front of everyone.

So you are definitely not a demon.

Looks like there are some smart people in the Celestial Master's Mansion.

But why were you in the Eastern Palace?

That day, Meng Xizhou was going to send the tribute umbrellas to the palace,

and I asked her to help me identify the demons.

After I disguised myself and entered the palace as a Puppet Spirit,

I was caught in an illusionary technique.

As for the rest, you saw it.

So,

you fell under an illusionary technique?

Yes.

What exactly

is their real purpose?

The mirage

we saw at the Imperial Armory

is the key to cracking the mystery.

When did this happen?

How come I don't remember it?

They saw themselves

in the mirage,

but they didn't recognize the embroidered robes they wore.

Look.

The patterns on the embroidered robes vary.

Take these patterns

and check with all the departments

to see if anyone has seen or worn them.

You managed to memorize all of these?

Mountain?

Water.

The combination

looks like a painting.

I'm not sure if it's a painting.

But it must have some meaning.

I'll look into it.

What is this?

Looking at the injuries on you,

you must have suffered a lot.

This is the Meridian Protection Pill that I take every day.

It can protect your heart meridian.

Thank you.

[Court of Judicature and Revision]

How is it?

Have you identified who those servants were?

None of the Puppet Spirits that appeared today

are actual eunuchs from the palace.

How could this be?

I clearly

encountered them in the Imperial Palace.

Besides, they were so naturally

entering the Imperial Kitchen.

They planned it in advance

for you to see it.

Du Yuelian,

how is my disciple?

Master Du,

Nan is really not a demon.

If anyone's a demon, it's more likely to be me than him.

Do something.

It's His Majesty

who has ordered us to lock him up within the Demon Locking Pagoda.

What can I do?

Then, did you...

torture him severely?

These things don't matter.

If you want Nan Fengyi to be fine,

help me

solve the case as soon as possible.

You just said

it was all planned in advance, right?

Yes.

The Puppet Spirits deliberately appeared

in Meng Xizhou's path,

making her identify them as demons.

Only in this way

could Nan Fengyi be completely convinced and follow her.

Then he fell into an illusionary technique.

And that's the scene

His Majesty saw.

Then, who knew

he was going to the palace?

Everyone in the palace knew

about Meng Xizhou sending the umbrellas.

I've also checked on the maid serving Her Majesty,

who was leading the way.

I haven't found anything suspicious yet.

In short,

I inadvertently brought this trouble upon him.

Nan Fengyi said

that the mirage we saw

outside the Imperial Armory

is most likely the key to cracking the mystery.

The eunuch and the maid serving the Crown Prince

saw themselves in the mirage.

Yes.

They also said...

they didn't remember ever wearing

the clothes in the mirage.

How could they not remember things

that happened to them?

Is there a possibility

that the things shown in the mirage will happen in the future?

Come with me and check these.

These look

very much like puzzle pieces.

Like a corner of the geomantic map.

And a painting.

But it's disjointed

and missing a lot.

If we can go to the Imperial Weaving Department,

we might find something new.

But in the Imperial Weaving Department,

there are many of His Majesty's garments.

Besides Her Majesty,

who else has the authority

to go there and investigate?

Of course, there is someone.

The Crown Prince.

The Crown Prince?

I'm well acquainted with him.

And I've even saved his life.

He should be willing to help me.

I'm going to the palace now.

Wait.

With your status,

how are you gonna get in?

Then...

what should we do?

This is mine.

I'm just lending it to you.

You...

If you get caught,

don't blame it on me.

You can just say...

I'll say

I stole it.

Are you crazy?

Have you forgotten

that you are also a member of the Celestial Master's Mansion?

Don't just stand here.

Go.

Okay.

[Eastern Palace]

Your Highness,

the food is cold now.

Why haven't you eaten yet?

So much has happened today.

I can't eat.

His Majesty

has sent more guards here.

Actually,

you don't need to worry so much.

I'm not worried about my own safety.

I just have a strange feeling

that something is off.

Nan Fengyi kept calling me "Situ Hanshan"

and tried to kill me.

It was as if he was possessed.

Well, if he was really going to kill me,

why did he call me "Situ Hanshan"?

That's so strange.

Your Highness, you're right.

Goddess Chirp?

Why are you here?

Your Highness,

tonight the Celestial Master's Mansion

has been instructed to protect you.

Okay.

Come on, have a seat.

You haven't eaten, have you?

Would you like to...

I'll take my leave now.

Come on, Goddess.

This pastry

is really good.

Thank you.

It's good.

You like drawing?

Just sketching casually.

Let's get down to business.

Today,

I actually came here to ask you for a favor.

Ask me for a favor?

Go ahead.

I will help you.

Can you

take me to the Imperial Weaving Department?

The Imperial Weaving Department?

Why do you want to go there?

I've found a new clue regarding Nan Fengyi's

attempt to assassinate you.

Really?

I've been worried about this too.

So, will you go?

Yes.

I'll take you there.

[Weaving Bureau]

The Crown Prince has arrived!

I'm Li Hong'an, the Vice Minister of Rites.

Greetings, Your Highness.

Rise.

Li Hong'an,

what are you doing here?

Your Highness,

tomorrow is your Grand Coming-of-Age Ceremony.

I'm taking inventory of

the embroidered robes for the palace servants.

I'll be sending them to the various palaces shortly.

Your Highness, what brings you here in person?

Me?

I...

I've been eating too much lately.

I've noticed that my waist

seems to have gotten a bit bigger.

Come and measure it for me,

and see if you can adjust my robe.

Well...

Your Highness,

we've already made your ceremonial attire

with ease allowance.

Ease allowance?

What does that mean?

My coming-of-age ceremony should be perfect.

I want to try it on.

Why all this talk?

Well...

Then, I will take you

to try on your new attire now.

Please, Your Highness.

Bottle, wait for me here.

Yes.

Let's go.

Are these the embroidered robes

that the Master said the palace servants

were wearing in the mirage?

They're indeed here.

No.

The patterns on these clothes

are all interconnected.

They are all connected.

What's a little palace maid like you

述: doing here?

Stupid Bottle!

What are you doing here?

This room…

There are so many embroidered robes here.

These are the embroidered robes

that the servants will wear

at your coming-of-age ceremony.

They are to be sent to the palaces tonight.

Indeed, these are the embroidered robes for the Crown Prince's coming-of-age ceremony.

Your Highness.

Have you tried on

your ceremonial robe?

I've eaten a lot lately,

yet surprisingly, I've lost 6 centimeters...

from my waist.

Have your people alter the robe quickly tonight.

I'm tired.

I'm leaving.

Your Highness.

[Eastern Palace]

These are the patterns I copied

from the palace servants' embroidered robes.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to copy all of them.

Hurry and take a look for me.

You copied all of them?

You're amazing.

Let me take a look.

These are all landscape patterns,

symbols of auspiciousness.

They are for my coming-of-age ceremony tomorrow.

There's nothing suspicious about it.

Nothing suspicious?

Are you too nervous?

The palace has been heavily guarded lately.

The masters from the Celestial Master's Mansion have been protecting me around the clock.

Situ Hanshan

shouldn't be able to cause any trouble.

Don't worry.

I hope so.

Thank you for today.

Rest early.

I'm leaving now.

Goddess.

What's wrong?

Don't feel too pressured.

Okay.

Tomorrow

is my coming-of-age ceremony.

Will you come to witness it?

I...

I'll try my best to make it.

After the coming-of-age ceremony,

I'll be able to participate in politics and choose a princess consort.

Then, let me congratulate you in advance.

May you engage more in politics and have more princesses and concubines.

I'm off.

But I only want one princess.

Chirp.

Master.

Are you okay?

Don't worry.

♫The wind hesitates, not daring to smooth the furrowed brow♫

I'm fine.

How can you be fine?

Master.

♫The rain hesitates, reluctant to burden the tear-streaked eyes beneath the umbrella♫

Are you in a lot of pain?

I'm fine.

I definitely am not a demon.

The truth will be revealed in three days.

♫The closer you are to me, the clearer the pain becomes♫

What are you talking about?

Even if you were a demon,

♫The most painful separation means you can't even miss her♫

I wouldn't give up on you.

♫In silence, the world's grudges weave a web of entanglement♫

♫Under the clouds, the smoke from cooking rises and spreads freely♫

♫It's the love doomed by fate♫

♫Under the umbrella, your profile is gently framed by the soft strands of your hair♫

If I were a demon,

♫Should my heart belong to someone for ten thousand years♫

use your little broken umbrella and subdue me.

♫Through endless lifetimes, softly and quietly, it flows on♫

You are now

a real demon hunter.

♫I won't lose you♫

♫I'll sacrifice myself to help you♫

How's the investigation going outside?

♫With a single lamp and a thousand books, alone I'm restless through the night♫

I gave Du Yuelian some drawings...

Master, don't worry.

I've already gone to the palace

and investigated those drawings.

Look.

The patterns you drew

match exactly with those

on the embroidered robes I saw in the Imperial Weaving Department.

Look, every pattern

can be connected together.

But every pattern is independent too.

Unfortunately...

neither the Crown Prince nor I

could decipher this mystery.

Did the Crown Prince help you

get into the Weaving Department?

Yes.

Master, don't worry.

With his protection,

I won't be discovered.

Did they tell you

when these robes would be worn?

They said

they would be worn during the Crown Prince's

Grand Coming-of-Age Ceremony tomorrow.

Tomorrow?

It's today now.

It's past 5 o'clock now.

The sun will come out soon.

Master.

But except for these,

I really have no clue.

And you know what?

Without you by my side,

I can't use

my Demon-Recognizing Pupils at all.

Chirp, don't be afraid.

Do you remember

the umbrella patterns

that my father made?

I remember.

On that rainy night...

On that rainy night,

I drank too much,

but I vaguely remember

that the patterns on the umbrellas

were all different from each other.

On that rainy night,

the sky was very dark,

and the rain was very heavy.

How about this?

You go back to find my father,

get those drawings,

and compare them with these.

Then, we'll see what we find,

okay?

I'll go now.

Wait.

What's wrong?

Haven't you been sleeping well

these past few days?

Don't worry, Master.

I'm holding up.

I'm fine.

Then, after everything is over,

let's go back and have a good sleep.

I...

No, I...

Chirp, I didn't mean it that way.

Just go, okay?

Hurry up. Or it'll be too late. Hurry!

Okay.

[5 a.m.]

No.

It's almost dawn.

By the time Chirp gets it to me, it'll be too late.

Let me try to piece these patterns together.

All the patterns were burned.

Uncle Nan,

didn't you draw those patterns before?

How about

you draw down everything

you can remember?

The more you rush me,

the more anxious I get,

and I can't remember anything.

You made those umbrellas.

How could you not remember?

Uncle Nan.

It's urgent.

Don't rush me.

Let me

think about it.

Uncle Nan, can you do it?

Hold on.

Uncle Nan.

Let me think on it some more.

It's urgent. We're all counting on you.

Okay.

Calm down.

What is it?

Mr. Ren Guang!

Chirp?

Come on.

You're drawing the patterns from the tribute umbrellas.

How could you possibly know what they look like?

I'm in your consciousness,

so sometimes I can catch glimpses of what you're seeing or thinking.

Don't worry.

Not all.

Though it's only partial,

I can tell

it's the Sky-covering Formation.

These patterns

are a formation?

This formation

can temporarily suppress the dragon aura.

Situ Hanshan wants to

use the Sky-covering Formation to suppress the dragon aura

to possess either the Crown Prince

or the Emperor?

Right at the Crown Prince's coming-of-age ceremony.

I have to go back now.

Wait.

I haven't finished speaking, and you're already leaving.

Remember,

only you can break this formation.

How can that be?

Master and Du Yuelian

are both great demon hunters.

Your blood

is the beginning of everything

and the end of everything.

What do you mean?

Why do you always speak so vaguely?

Can't you make it clear in one go?

No.

Only when I appear at the critical moment

can you realize how important I am.

You're always important!

Chirp?

Chirp!

Wake up.

Chirp?

Give me two more hours,

and I'll definitely be able to draw them.

No need.

Can you save Yi?

[7 a.m.]

Could it be...

Could it be a formation?

It's attacking my heart meridian again.

It's been a day and a night.

Well,

I don't even know where Junior is.

What if...

Then you'd have committed a great error.

Senior!

Why are you sneaking around here again?

I...

I...

I didn't do anything.

I, I was waiting for you.

Waiting for me?

Right.

Didn't I tell you yesterday?

Master has gone to the Imperial Ancestral Temple to escort the Crown Prince

to his coming-of-age ceremony.

We need to go investigate Nan Fengyi.

It's a big deal for the Crown Prince to leave the palace.

Now that we haven't caught Situ Hanshan yet,

we can't let our guard down.

Let's deal with Nan Fengyi's matter

tomorrow.

Let's go.

Wait, Junior.

Did you...

feel anything strange in your body?

No.

Then...

did you take the Meridian Protection Pill that I made yesterday?

I took it

after you left yesterday.

Is there a problem?

That's strange.

I switched the medicine myself.

Why didn't she have any reactions at all?

That's good. That's good.

Du Yuelian!

Meng Xizhou?

Have you found anything?

Together, those patterns form the Sky-covering Formation

to conceal the dragon aura.

How did you know about this formation?

Did Nan Fengyi tell you?

It's hard to explain.

In short,

both the Crown Prince and the Emperor are in danger.

Let's go.

Junior.

The Crown Prince's coming-of-age ceremony is a big deal.

If the ceremony is ruined,

the fate of our realm will be affected.

Then our Celestial Master's Mansion will be guilty of death.

Du Yuelian.

I've never lied to you,

right?

Junior...

If there's anything wrong,

I will bear it alone.

It's the responsibility of the whole Celestial Master's Mansion.

Why would I let you, a minor master, bear it?

This pattern

can unlock the Demon Locking Pagoda

and release Nan Fengyi.

Okay.

Thank you for trusting me.

Senior.

Are you willing

to come to the Crown Prince's coming-of-age ceremony to save them with me?

I...

will go.

Let's go.

The Meridian Protection Pill that Du Yuelian gave me

not only had no effect

but also made me even hotter and more restless.

How could this happen?

Master.

Master.

I've found out that those patterns together form a formation.

It's called the Sky-covering Formation.

It's designed to conceal the dragon aura.

I think they must want to take this opportunity

to possess the Crown Prince.

I'll get you out first.

Then, let's save the Crown Prince together.

Don't come over!

What's wrong?

I'll hurt you.

I'm here to get you out.

Besides, with you by my side,

I'll be stronger.

I said no!

Great!

Master!

Master?

Come on, be careful.

Master.

You...

Master.

Calm down.

♫What is love, and how many can truly understand it?♫

I think

we should wait until we get back to do this.

♫In the moment of writing, thousands of thoughts surge through my mind♫

I mistakenly took some medicine.

Now, I'm fighting to purge it from my system.

♫Ink stains the paper, words not from the heart♫

You...

♫I collide with the clock of fate♫

took...

♫Your glance makes the moonlight surge♫

Master?

Are you feeling better?

Much better.

♫Your eyes mirror my flustered face♫

I thought...

♫How I wish this life could freeze in this moment♫

♫The impulse that pauses for you♫

you just missed me so much.

♫My solitary courage and your smile♫

♫Unfamiliar with the ways of the world♫

I did miss you.

♫Love, at its deepest, is understood most by the lovers♫

But this isn't the time.

Let's go.

Master, slow down.

[Noon]

In this auspicious hour,

we bestow the rites of adulthood.

May you serve the country with diligence,

and may lasting fortune be passed down.

Get out of the way!

Help!

Somebody help me!

Crown Prince,

you must hang in there.

Goddess,

you and I

can never meet again.

Your Highness.

Goddess.

You're finally here.

Situ Hanshan!

The Demon-Recognizing Pupils are really useful.

But you don't have the ability

to break the formation.

Only you

can break this formation.

Your blood is the beginning of everything

and the end of everything.

My blood...

My blood

may be able to break the formation.

Stop Situ Hanshan for me!

Who told you that?

You must trust me.

I'll explain everything to you later.

Hurry up!

Okay.

Nan Fengyi,

do you really think what you're protecting

is justice in this world?

How many more innocent lives have to be sacrificed

in exchange for the "justice" you speak of?

All of you...

Goddess?

No!

No!

No.

It's too slow.

Goddess,

just remember

that there is someone in this world

for whom you will always be the best

in his heart, no matter what.

I won't allow you to give up on yourself!

Goddess!

Old man!

Yuelian!

Old man!

Chirp.

Du Fenglei!

I'm here!

Du Fenglei.

How are you?

Are you hurt?

Yuelian,

don't worry about me.

I'm fine.

It's just that my leg hurts a bit.

I'll be fine after some rest.

By the way,

where is Situ Hanshan?

There.

I killed him.

From now on,

you're not allowed to act alone again.

Okay.

I'll listen to you.

[Eastern Palace]

Your Highness?

Goddess.

You're awake.

I...

Why am I in your palace?

You saved me

and defeated Situ Hanshan.

You're amazing.

Situ Hanshan...

was defeated.

What is this?

This...

this is your fur.

No.

These are your feathers.

My feathers?

Goddess.

Actually, no matter what you become,

you will always be the goddess I revere.

Impossible.

Impossible.

I'm a human.

How could a human have feathers?

Is it possible

that you are a demon?

Impossible!

Impossible!

I'm a human.

Your Highness.

Let me tell you.

I'm a demon hunter.

And I want to become

a great demon hunter.

How can I be a demon?

Impossible!

Impossible!

Impossible!

It's all my fault.

My dragon aura

accidentally restored you to your original form.

But I've learned

that as long as you don't cast magic on me,

it's safe for us

to be together.

Don't be afraid.

I will protect you.

Besides...

only the two of us know about it.

No one else knows.

Your Highness,

Nan Fengyi has arrived!

Tell him to wait for me in the side hall.

Yes, Your Highness!

Don't worry.

I won't tell him

your identity.

I...

I think I can maintain my human form a little longer.

I'll go see him myself.

Master will be worried

if he can't find me.
