This loss leaves

Derrick and I against the house,

left in Era One.

Era One, obviously,
is gonna be Derrick and Rachel.

-TJ: Who's gonna be the target
for the guys?

That's what we agreed on, right?

-TJ: Era Four.
-KYLAND: Jenny, I'm sorry.

-THEO: The one-eyed warrior.
-BANANAS: Era One,
there's two players left.

But this monstrosity

of an alliance
that has been created

between Era Three and Four,
it is a ticking time bomb.

(contestants shouting)

DERRICK:
I'm staring at three red giants,

and I'm thinking,
"Here goes nothing."

TORI FIORENZA:
Three-on-one, Tyler,
knock his ass off!

-CARA MARIA: Good job, Michele.
-(applause)

DEREK:
The elimination was insane.

Era One now is just
Derrick and Rachel,

and now I'm a target,
but Era Two's

actually pretty strong still.

Our team has been
in second place consistently,

so it's not like we're losing.

Let's see how far we can get

before we actually have
to get our-our nails dirty.

RACHEL:
And then...

-I couldn't be happier

to be at the end here with--

DERRICK:
Or we could just magically win

-the next challenge.
-I agree.

I think it's happening.

My leg is not doing well,

but I love playing the game.

And, uh, I'm gonna see
how far I can push myself.

I'm gonna see how far
the body can go

without completely breaking.

JENNY:
I've heard my name
three times down there now,

and some people have not
heard their name once.

All I ever hear is,

It's like,

That's what it feels like.

I know I'm at the (bleep) bottom
of the pecking order

in this group,
and it doesn't feel good.

take this game personally.

you genuinely don't have
a lot of relationships

and you don't talk game
with people.

When it comes
to decision-making,

people will choose people

that they don't really talk to.

If you want to make sure

that your ass is saved
and not to be picked,

(scoffs)

I'm with a bunch of rookies.

Don't hold anybody
to any standard,

because they're not
gonna do it for you.

JENNY: People screw people over
in this game

on a daily basis,

so you can make
all the little connections

and plans that you want
with people,

but I don't even think 60%
of them see the light of day.

MICHELE:
Start playing the game in a way

that is gonna be good for you.

NEHEMIAH:
Era One is done.

Have we ever seen
a whole team wiped out?

Might have to do it.
It's a possibility.

(laughs)

-The thing is,

I think Era Three is basically
locked in with Era Two

because of Averey and Derek.

I think, if you win,

if we win

-or if One wins,
you should be good.

NEHEMIAH:
When we look around right now,

Era Two, we don't
really feel like a team.

I feel like we're almost
like Destiny's Child,

like, right when
they broke up, you know?

It's like, we're on stage,

but we don't really get along,

but we're still
singing the songs

'cause that's what
the people want.

But my connection's
on Era Three,

with Cory and Nia.

So if Two and Three
can stay safe,

that means that One and Four

could start to battle
each other,

and my people could

avoid elimination
this time around.

We knew this is what
it was gonna be.

The whole
"Era Three and Era Four,

we're supposed to work together"
benefits everybody but me.

I'm not in
the vacation alliance.

I'm working with Era Two,

'cause I know my partner's
attached to Derek C.,

and we already saw
what Averey did

last time when she was a target

and Derek C. was
on the other side.

My connections for my game
are Era Two.

TJ:
Tony, Averey, who's it gonna be?

Uh, we're at a stalemate.

So therefore, Derek C.,

me and you,
we're tied to the hip, too.

I'm cool with it,
how it's all playing out.

LAUREL:
I can't believe that we don't
have our targets on.

That band felt like
a (bleep) best friend

at a, at a certain point.

BANANAS:
I just need a purple piece

just so I feel at home.

this isn't my first rodeo,

and this isn't
my first time dealing with

in my lifetime.

The relationship that I have
with Ryan took a turn

when Nicole and I

had a falling-out.

that I'm not comfortable in.

And it's unfortunate

I don't want to be somebody

If it's some kind of race

where everyone from your team

has to complete the race,

Derrick and Rachel, those two
just have to complete the race.

And for us,
we have to have six people com--

-AVIV: The thing Tori does.

-It's like, it's very sexual,
but it works.
-(laughter)

In general, I think having
relationships in this game

is gonna always
complicate things,

but with Michele and Devin,
the interesting thing is

they're not on the same team,
so it's a little bit

different dynamic
than Theo and Olivia,

who can work together.

Your girlfriend is so cute.

DEVIN:
Absolute queen. Just saying.

MICHELE:
I mean, thank you.

(Aviv laughs)

DERRICK:
We don't have much

of a play left
in this game, right?

So it's, like,
the one thing that we know,

that Eras Two and Three
are gonna

look out for each other 100%.

-And so, that just means

that we might as well
just do the same thing.

DERRICK:
My leg is still not doing well,

and me and Rachel
are out of cards.

So, is it possible

that there is a glimmer
of hope left

in us staying in this game
by reaching out

to Era Four
and looking out for a deal?

-If you don't have any deals...
-I have no deals or ties

-to hardly anyone, so...
-Okay, it's either

gonna be us going in
or them going in.

-Okay, cool.
-THEO: I'm a target,
Jenny's a target.

Derrick and Rachel are sitting
by themselves at the moment,

they got no backup.

No one's approached me
to team up.

So you know what they say,
if they're not working with you,

they're working against you,

so I'm gonna take
Derrick's deal.

Looking down the line
at targets,

I'm thankful that Derek
is my teammate

because people like him,

and one of those people
is Laurel.

So maybe I'm good there.

But then, Averey's a target,

which is good,
because she sacrificed herself

for Derek already;
she'll look out for him.

Then there's Theo.

I 100% want to show him
how I have his back.

If we win, there's gonna be
more than a battle

that we're having today,
that's for sure.

It's gonna be tough,
but that's why

they call it The Challenge.

TJ: All right, everyone,
welcome to your next challenge

here in beautiful Vietnam
on this season

of The Challenge 40:
Battle of the Eras.

(cheering)

Well, after 24 years...

...my favorite movie
of all time,

Gladiator...

...is coming back.

(cheering)

-(whoops)
-JENNY: Wow!

That's cool.

DERRICK (laughs):
Oh!

Yes.

TJ:
Gladiator II is coming
to theaters this November,

directed by Sir Ridley Scott.

(whoops)

The new film brings us back
to the arenas of ancient Rome

with an extraordinary
all-star cast,

including Denzel Washington,
Connie Nielsen, Paul Mescal,

Joseph Quinn and Pedro Pascal.

(applause, cheering)

And before I tell you
about today's challenge,

let's take a very special look
at Gladiator II.

MACRINUS:
Did you hear that crowd?

The greatest temple
Rome ever built, the Colosseum.

TRAINER:
The arena turns
slaves into gladiators,

then gladiators into free men.

-You will be my instrument.
-Who are you?

MACRINUS:
Rome must fall.

I need only give it a push.

Is this how Rome
treats its heroes?

♪♪ ♪♪

(cheering)

Having it be a gladiator
challenge, totally badass.

In the movie Gladiator,

teamwork makes the dream work,

and Era Three's got that.

TJ:
Now, being a real gladiator

isn't just about being
the biggest and most powerful.

It's about skill, bravery
and strategy

to fight your way to the top.

You are all gladiators
in our eyes.

-Yes.
-JOSH: Yes.

But for now, you're gonna
have to work alongside your era

and your shield to get
the win in today's contest.

Today's challenge is
called Battle for Honor.

When I say go, you're gonna
be entering the ring

with your eras.

The objective is crystal clear:

to be the last era standing.

But here's the twist:

you're gonna have to use those
Roman army-inspired shields

to send your opponents...

flying into that water.

You get pushed into the water,
and it's lights out.

(laughs)

Strategy is everything today.

It's all about precision,
power and teamwork.

So there'll be rounds for men
and rounds for women,

so everyone gets
their shot at glory.

-Mmm.
-(whistles)

TJ:
This will be a timed event.

Each round will last 20 minutes,

and the team with the most
gladiators left standing

will win and take the power
into the Chamber.

Are you not entertained?

(cheering)

DEVIN:
I'm a gladiator.

-(laughs)
-And I previously had a life
in the Roman army.

And so I'll be
utilizing the skills

from that here today.

Era Four is ready
to come together

as, like, our own Roman army.

JENNY:
It's quite evident
that Era Two and Three

are clubbing together,
I think we all know that.

So, um, we've adopted Rachel
and Derrick into Era Four today

to even out the numbers
a little bit.

DERRICK:
I don't know how long
this leg is gonna hold up,

and I'm by myself, so I'm kind
of scared (bleep) right now.

RACHEL:
Looks like Era Four
is gonna be our best shot

to not get last place.

Kind of like the gladiator,
you can never count us out,

no matter what the odds are.

DERRICK:
For my legacy,
this is the one that I need.

CARA MARIA:
Go for green!

CORY:
This is why you come here,
to be a gladiator.

AVEREY:
They look badass.

Gladiators, ready?

MICHELE:

-(air horn blows)
-Go.

MICHELE: Go!

-(shouting)

This is going to come down

to Era Two and Three
working together.

Derrick on Era One
is super smart.

He's staying really far away
from the game, unlike Ryan.

I don't think Ryan even knows
what the hell is going on.

LAUREL: Ooh!

MICHELE:
Help Theo!

TORI:
Cory, get him!

CARA MARIA:
Get Theo's back!

CORY:
We're working with Era Two.

We've already seen the Averey
and Derek C. connection,

but we don't have a lot of time,

so, Theo, I'm coming for you.

We gotta get Era Four
out of here.

TORI:
Nice, Cory, get Theo's back.

MICHELE:
Help Theo!

OLIVIA:
Josh, get Theo's back.

MICHELE:
Theo, get away
from the edge right now.

(pained groan)

Today's challenge is called
Battle for Honor.

Two heats.
It is a timed event.

The last era standing
on the platform wins today.

-OLIVIA: Kyland, get in there.
-AVIV: Nice, Cory.

MICHELE:
Era Two and Era Three
are working together.

So, if one of those
two teams wins,

they're gonna save each other.

That means we're working
with Era One, I guess.

OLIVIA: Josh,
help your teammates!

Get Devin!

Watching the guys fight,

I feel like my muscles are like,
right at this moment,

the blood is pumping and I'm
excited to kick some ass today.

MICHELE:
Josh, Josh, help Kyland.

-Get him!
-Go!

MICHELE:
Keep going. Come on.

I don't know who hit me,

let alone the birds that are
flying around my head right now,

but I'm not dead,
so we'll keep going.

I think I look better.

MICHELE:

OLIVIA:

-(clattering swords)
-(Roman horns blowing)

Boom! You can feel
the earth shake.

(grunting)

We're warriors.

RYAN:
This is a classic battle
of the eras.

(grunting)

-Josh, help! Get over there!
-Someone help Johnny.

MICHELE: Get him!

TJ: All right, Bananas is out.
Keep going.

MICHELE:
Derek needs help,
Derek needs help.

OLIVIA:
Derek needs help,
Derek needs help.

TJ: All right, Derek's out.

(overlapping shouting)

AVEREY:
Devin, you got to push him out.

(grunting)

MICHELE: Watch out, guys!

Cory's teeing off on me,

but as much as I'm injured,

I say bring it on.

That's the gladiator mentality
that I'm bringing to the table.

(grunts)

MICHELE: Yeah, Nehemiah!

Nice, Nehemiah!

Guys, come on.

CORY: Right now, the minutes
are just ticking by.

And Devin suggests, hey, why
don't you make a deal with Theo

and see what you could
get out of it.

"Let me get this win.

Give it to me and you're safe."

Would he really be safe?
Probably not.

THEO: Unfortunately for Cory,

I've already said to Derek
that he's off the table.

So I can't make a promise
to two guys.

MICHELE: All right, get him!

Yeah, Cory! Help Theo.

-RYAN: Yeah, come on, Devin!

Theo has, at one point,

Era Two and Era Three.

AVEREY: This challenge today
is super physical,

my moneymaker.

is trying their luck with me,

so I'm kind of just set there,

(overlapping chatter)

CARA MARIA: Tori's hanging

going into the elimination.

then whispering to Laurel,
and I'm like,

where it's at,

because if she really wants
to smoke, we can go at it.

JOSH:

(overlapping shouting)

THEO:

TJ: Go, go, go.

LAUREL:
Even though Cara Maria and I

have just not seen eye to eye,

Cara is a target,

and time is running out.

So, if Cara wants
to go for something,

then I will have your back,
and I will whack them

with my shield with you.

Right now, I need
to keep my ass in the game

so that way,
my era doesn't get sent

directly into elimination.

TJ: Let's go!

I'm just trying to survive

push where I can push,

with the least amount of players

still standing was Era One.

(cheering)

as the targets of Era Four,

from elimination,

taking the head of the table
in the Chamber

and hearing from Era Two's

Derek and Cara Maria,

and Era Three's Cory and Averey,

as to why they should not
be sent into the Arena

against Rachel and Derrick
from Era One.

Good work, everyone. Good stuff.

This is

the best feeling ever.

You know, I've got the power

now, in deliberation,

and to hear Rachel out,

hear Derek out,

and give them
a matchup that they want.

You know, Rachel has had

a really hard time in here,

and I see a strong woman
in front of me

who plays a clean game,
and I have a lot of

respect for that. So hopefully,

Rachel can look out for me

at some point in the future.

(Jenny cheering)

pre-Challenge that were made,

and what actually comes out

is that Era One
and Era Four had a deal

because they were
under the assumption

that Averey and Derek
already had a deal

for both their eras.

Three has saved Four.

CORY:
Yeah, and then,
Four voted me in.

-DEVIN: "This could be a way

"moving forward versus having me

-as an enemy moving forward."
-And that's how,

that's basically how
I'm gonna word it.

DEVIN:

won five of seven challenges.

Theo and Jenny, might be time

to start working together here.

We can just go back and forth

winning and saving each other.

RACHEL:
I am a target again.

I am a team of one.

I now have to beat the entire
house in order to keep myself

out of the Arena.

And it's feeling
like I have momentum.

And even though
I am a team of one,

I feel like I have the support
of the other eras,

but this game can change
in a second.

I knew there was
gonna be a 50/50 chance,

but once I got in there
and realized

I am truly going in blind--

like, I know
Rachel has more stamina.

She's stronger
than myself, but

either way,
I knew it was a 50/50 shot,

and today just wasn't my day.

Looking back, I probably
would have wanted to be

the attacker first.

Rachel had already
gotten the round before me.

I think that she used
the ropes a little bit more.

I feel a little defeated
