Okay, we've got our targets.

BANANAS:
Getting involved
in a relationship

on The Challenge
is a horrible idea.

We have Nia and Kyland,

Devin and Michele,
Olivia and Theo.

And I'm all for it

because it's gonna
make the other eras weaker

when their judgment gets clouded
by love.

Tina and Nehemiah,
there's a bit of construction,

actually, in Era Three
we could use help with.

Era One is down CT

and they've gained me.

I'm not sure
how my era feels about that.

I'm happy,

but we're losing
way too many people.

We're on life support.

It's bad, guys.

Rachel's butt is on the line.

She's a target this week.
So is Brad.

So we need to get in gear
and start winning these things.

-I can nail anyone and anything.

LAUREL:

Not only am I now the target

the entire house against her.

But I'm just hoping that
I've made enough connections.

Josh and Jenny
both been nominated as targets.

I'm close with both of them
outside

of this game
and can rely on them

having my back usually.

LAUREL:
Anyway, you have kids,
so you understand

what it's like to be around
children with red hair.

CARA MARIA:
After everything

that's gone on
with me and Laurel,

and knowing that Laurel already
threw it to get rid of Emily,

there is every fiber of my being

that as soon
as TJ blows the horn,

at the starting line.

that Jenny has been

the scapegoat for our team

and Kaycee is the best female
on our team,

so we just can't lose her
at the moment.

took me under his wing.

But on The Challenge: USA 2,
I did cross him.

I don't know
where we stand in the game,

but I'm realizing that

I can't make everyone happy.

that they are trying to target

Jonna's the weight that's

Tension is at an all-time high

on Era Three.

Jonna said she was going
to volunteer

and then didn't

and still got chosen.

That is terrible.

This is not how I pictured me
being a target-- tied to Jonna.

We need to get this win
so I can protect myself.

If I had a partner
that didn't make the decisions

that she made yesterday,

which rubbed a lot of people
on my own team wrong.

So now I'm sitting back like,
is my own team

gonna give me 100% tomorrow?

JONNA:
Well,

didn't see this coming.
(laughs)

Did I make you sad?

No, I just had trouble
speaking up.

I never expected Nehemiah

to choose me as a target.

Honestly, I feel like Nehemiah

had a huge part in me getting
my first win on All Stars 2.

Um, he should have voted me in
in the end.

Because we are the tiebreakers,

our vote is unfortunately
going to be

-for Darrell and Janelle.
-(sighs)

JONNA:
He probably would have
won the whole season

had I not been there.

But it's just...
it's so hard because

there's so many feelings, so
many ups and downs that happened

in my life
from the very beginning.

Whether it be
my biological mother

who gave me up for adoption,
or my adoptive parents,

the people that are closest
to me are the ones

that end up screwing me over.

So, when I'm put
in high-pressure situations,

I always revert back to,

"Trust no one,
only trust yourself."

It's just, there's too many
variables of how people can stay

in and out
based on deals they make.

Like, it's just, it's risky.

Yeah, if I go in.

JENNY:
I have loyalties to people
on my team, but

I don't want to feel like I'm
here doing all this, giving 90%,

and they're just, like,
sitting back.

-keep helping your team win.

being the fall person.

JENNY:
The only person here

pretty much right now
who I feel like

I can trust is Johnny Bananas.

I've done two seasons with him,
and he has never let me down.

We are both targets,
and I just hope

that we can work together

to protect each other.

exactly what he tells her to do.

Michele and I are good.
We've been good for a long time.

And I'm starting to see
a very concerning pattern,

which is this relationship
that she has with Devin.

I just kind of want
to put it on her radar

that, "Michele, you know

where this road leads."

I think she really likes him,

and he's just using her for,

-like, as a pawn in his game.
-Yeah.

welcome to your fifth challenge

this season of The Challenge 40:
Battle of the Eras.

(applause and cheering)

Congratulations
to Nehemiah and Tina.

By winning the elimination,

you got the power

to select new targets
for each era.

We have Rachel and Brad
for Era One.

Era Two,
we have Bananas and Laurel.

Era Three-- Jonna and Cory.

And Era Four-- Jenny and Josh.

So, all of their asses are
on the line.

DEREK: The way that Laurel
treated Cara Maria-- I can just

tell Cara Maria's
fed up with it.

So it would be of best interest

for Cara Maria to throw

this challenge in order to get
Laurel into an elimination.

Today's challenge
is called Cloud Catcher.

As you can see, there are giant
helium balloons all connected

to color-coded poles.

To begin, you're gonna select

three players to run this race.
When I say "Go,"

you will race across this field,

through the obstacle,

and start grabbing
your color-coded balloons.

One at a time,
you'll race 'em back

and through a giant pergola.

Be safe because
that pergola has a sharp roof.

It'll pop those balloons
instantly.

You're going
to continue this process,

connecting those balloons

to your station until all

of your era's balloons
have been retrieved,

which will then raise

a giant riddle.

Solve it.

The era to solve the puzzle

with the most balloons

connected to their station

in the least amount of time
will win today's challenge,

and their targets will be safe
from elimination.

The losing team's targets--
straight into the Arena.

All right, so let's get

Yay! Cloud Catcher!

JORDAN:
This is a great challenge
for Era Three.

We've got speed,

we got brains.

Oh, and we got brawn.
Let's go, Cor.

I mean, it's my turn
in rotation, right?

Everybody here has stepped up
to the plate.

You know, sometimes you got
to take a risk,

and that's what
we're doing today.

If we stay calm and composed,
we can do this.

LAUREL:
There definitely
has been some turmoil.

I've been the center of it.

I apologized to my whole
team for what happened.

I did not want it
to get to that level.

The most important thing
moving forward today is

that we are a team.

I think that this team
right here has the capacity

to (bleep) kick ass,
and I still...

I still believe in that.

Um, I'm not gonna lie.

After what happened,
I definitely was like,

"I'm just gonna (bleep) sit
at the starting line.

"I'm not gonna do (bleep).

"Why am I gonna fight

for someone like that?"

But then I thought about it,
and I'm like,

"Maybe... maybe
she's thrown challenges

in the past when it came to me."

But I don't have that
in my character,

and I will not be like her.

The strategy today is:

protect your balloons.

For some reason,

Jordan thinks
that speed is gonna be a factor.

All you need
to do is protect your balloons.

Treat that balloon
like a newborn baby.

And if anyone knows about
newborn babies, it's your boy.

DEREK:
Oh, it's tangled. (bleep)

-I'm tangled.
-(mutters)

DEREK: For today's challenge,
we need a lot

of patience
and we need teamwork

and we need to be able
to communicate.

Era Two definitely does not
have those qualities.

We're tangled, Jordan.
Be careful.

We just rush through things

as fast as we can
'cause we want to get done.

But let's get it together,
you know, like, let's do this.

(yells)

RACHEL:
Derrick!

(yelling)

TINA:
Oh, my God.

I hear nothing but screaming...

(Derrick yells)

...and pain.

I think I broke my leg.

-BRAD: Are you serious?

-BRAD: Oh, my God.

Era One had already
been dropping like flies.

And guess what.

It's my turn.

-(Derrick yelling)

DERRICK:
It is like

a circus act.

Be strategic.

And I am now a part

of the carnival.

But Rachel and Brad-- we can't

risk losing them.

So I need to do everything
I possibly can,

even if that means
I'm gonna have

to crawl through this.

-(yells)

JOSH:
The one thing

that we really are putting
into play within our team

is that it's not
about how fast we move,

but being effective
and making sure

that we protect
each and every balloon.

So I'm doing the best that I can

because my ass is on the line.

You got to hook it first.

DEVIN:
This is really

an attention-to-detail
challenge.

The balloons are massive.

These things are tangled.
If you drag this thing

on the ground, it's gonna pop.

If you hit a spike,
it's gonna pop.

If the wind blows too hard,
it's gonna pop.

And with Cory and Jonna
as targets,

I don't envision

Brad or Rachel saving them.

Laurel and Bananas
certainly will not.

This is a huge challenge

for Era Three or Four.

(screams)

I'm trying to eyeball
the other teams' balloons.

Some of them have popped
floating in the air

but still count,

so it's kind of confusing
to get a proper count.

DERRICK:
I'm gonna finish the game.

At this point,

Derrick is now trying

This is

coming down to the wire

between Era Three or Era Two.

But Era Two cannot win.

Bananas and me--
we haven't liked each other

for 24 years.

The target couldn't be
any bigger

on myself and my team,

so we need to win.

(balloon pops)

'cause we still have balloons
that are out in the field.

But the amount of balloons
is more important than the time,

so this is crucial

that we get these two

through the course.

JONNA:

The finger I touch
will soon turn red."

JONNA:

but Era Three

so we know we're right around

and it's really difficult
to determine

who has the most balloons.

Some of them are popped,
some of them are dangling.

So it's anyone's guess right now

who won today.

JOSH: We can't get last place.

BANANAS: When you survey
the landscape here,

I've obviously got a very great
relationship with Jenny.

Any other season,

I would totally
have faith in Josh,

although the last time him and I

competed together, after
swearing up and down all season

that my name would never
come out of his mouth,

he went back on his word and
put my name up for nomination.

As much as I want
to have faith that Josh

is gonna look out for me,

it's anyone's guess.

CORY:
At this point
I'm a little worried.

Even though Era Three

and Four are working together,

it's wishy-washy with Josh.

But we know we got to get
Bananas out of this game.

Brad's a strong opponent.

He's coming in,
he means business,

so get Bananas down there.

Let's do this.

RACHEL:
Like, we had

the proper strategy,

we just didn't have luck
on our side.

-We had the odds
stacked against us.
-We basically did

that entire challenge
with four people almost.

And kept up.

If we're not gonna be first,

I'd rather know we're going in

and not be in that Chamber room

trying to negotiate
against another team

when, at the end of the day,
we'd probably be picked anyway.

At this point we're not
offering anybody safety,

we can't win.

And honestly, one more "L"
and I'm ready for a flight.

First off, I want to say

what's best for our team.

100% safe going against Laurel.

Johnny and Laurel are two of the
biggest threats in this game,

not to mention the fact that

we just built

this relationship
with Era Three.

And why would we start

to go back on that?

I have no idea what to expect
from Josh and Jenny.

Thank God that I am paired
with Johnny as a target because

if it was just me
with any other person

on Era Two as a target,

I would get sent in.

So I kind of want to hear,

want to go up against?

comfortable, like,
saying specific names.

BRAD:
I've got too much respect
for both of these men

to actually say a name,
so I just would like

to respectfully withdraw
from that.

CORY:

till all the balls are gone.

to block shots.

no more balls left,

whoever scored more balls
onto the spikes

Definitely not happy I lost.

I will say,
it was an interesting game.

Those balls were a little harder
to throw than I thought.

Cory outplayed me.

He had a good strategy.

Feel like I let my team down
a little bit,

but at the end of the day
I did my best.

That's all you can ask
from yourself, so,

as long as I leave it all on
the field, I walk away a winner,

and I feel like I did that.

It's truly been a blessing
to be a part of season 40.

I got to meet a lot of players,

and it was really
a great experience.

I'm gonna miss them.

I've got a great life waiting
for me at home,

but I hope Era One can pick up

some kind of a "W"
moving forward.

I wish them the best of luck
with the rest of the season.

The amount of things
you learn about yourself

just being a part of this
is amazing.

Through the good moments,
through the hard moments

and everything in between,
uh, it's one of the best

learning experiences
you could ever have, and, uh,

till the wheels off
I'll always show up

as long as my schedule

a part of this franchise.

I really love this game
