Ryntia, the untamed lands.
300 years ago, it was a place dominated
by the dark forces of Xanthias.
In possession of the mystical Shield of the Dead,
Xanthias summoned two powerful demonic minions
from the darkest depths of the netherworld.
Tyranus, the tormentor.
And Sinder, the enchantress.
Together, they desecrated the land
with the necromantic arts, making it a realm of undeath,
living, yet un-living.
The first to oppose the necromancers' minions
were the Druidic Silver Elves from Glimmerdale.
Seeking to gather allies of his own,
Xanthias used his deceptive powers to infect
the weak-minded among them.
Many fell to this ruse, including Bre'Gwen,
Queen of the Silver Elves, who swore loyalty
to the dark magician in exchange for power and riches.
But the price was high.
The traitorous elves were transformed
into gray-skinned versions of their former selves.
With legions of undead and his new army of Deep Elves,
Xanthias set out to conquer
those who dared to stand against him.
The evil forces were intercepted by an army
of Grayraven soldiers led by the king's personal vanguard
of Ebony Knights, warriors gifted
with strange mystical powers.
In the dark recesses of the Devilspine Mountains,
Galaron, the bravest of the Ebony Knights,
corners the dark mage.
Fate was with him that day.
With a mighty swing of his great sword,
Galaron severed the head of the necromancer.
The Deep Elves, fearing retribution for their betrayal,
fled to the caverns beneath the Devilspine Mountains,
forever exiled from the surface world.
While the allied kingdoms cleansed the land
of the remaining undead army, Galaron returned
to the Grayraven Kingdom with the Shield of the Dead,
knowing it had to be destroyed.
But the king was weak, and the influence of the evil magic
began to overwhelm him.
Galaron felt he was left with no choice.
He and his remaining Ebony Knights took the shield by force,
knowing that they would be forever labeled
as traitors to the crown.
Never wanting anyone to evoke the power of the shield again,
Galaron took it to an ancient temple,
where it was cleansed of its evil, and destroyed.
The land was finally rid of the unholy artifact.
And, now the story continues.
Whoa ho.
Whoa.
Looks like Grendrial's castle is under attack.
So it would seem.
We have to help them.
Ghar, you know we're not welcome in these lands.
We'll wait for the others.
And what do we do when they get here?
Then, with greater numbers we'll ride in
and assess the situation.
Jeris, we can't just stand by
while the cries of battle beckon.
Yes, we can.
When the others arrive, I'll explain our purpose here.
Ghar!
So much for your elite guard.
Why are you doing this?
What have we done to deserve your wrath?
Kyriani, the honor is yours.
Do it!
I cannot.
Ithicus.
Whoa!
I thought you were growing stronger.
I expected more from my own blood.
Save him, Prince.
Face me, if you dare.
Ithicus!
Ghar!
Jeris, they must pay for what they've done here.
Trust me, Ghar.
There are things in motion far greater than you know.
Wait here.
You should learn to control your warriors.
Ghar does not understand the situation.
Who would ever imagined,
an Ebony Knight kneeling before me.
Do not confuse my respect for royalty
as a gesture of subservience.
Of course not.
These men are no more threat to you.
Release them.
Very well.
You have something for me?
Yes.
The first of three tomes, as promised.
And the second part?
Of course.
She is yours.
What?
I refuse.
Silence!
You will do as you are told.
You have honored your word.
I shall honor mine.
I will await you at the cave
of the howling winds as planned.
Until then.
Jeris, what's going on?
To the keep.
We have much to discuss.
My Liege, Grendrial and her people
are being tended to in the west wing.
Thank you Aidric.
The wounds they've suffered are grave.
Barbed crossbow bolts, serrated sickle blades,
and poison for which we have no cure.
To die on the battlefield is one thing,
but to cause such suffering...
We may have a greater problem.
Ebony Knights seen with the Deep Elves.
I've heard tales of the magic they wield,
the powers they possess.
Just stories.
They are men, like you and me.
Besides, there are so few of them left,
they are no threat.
Let's hope you're right, Ulrin.
May I suggest, sire, with Grendrial's keep lost
they will surely focus their next attack
on one of the smaller kingdoms.
I agree.
The next kingdom in their path belongs to Lord Breckholt.
And, that is why I'm going to send a battalion
down with Aidric and Erasmus to offer our protection.
I've sent our fastest vessels
to protect our coastal towns and villages.
Will that not leave our own castle
without sufficient forces?
The attacks are becoming more intense.
We must act swiftly.
Princess.
I'd like to make a formal request
to join one of the battalions.
No.
The day I send a woman to go into battle
is the day I renounce my throne.
I am as skilled as any of your knights.
That may be, but it does not change the fact
that you are, indeed, a woman.
I respect your spirit, but your mother trained you
in the ways of the faith before she passed.
A faith that did not protect her
when the Reavers attacked IronGate.
Honor your mother's memory.
Use the divine powers as she did.
I have no taste for it.
I want to fight.
Your ability to heal far outweighs your ability to kill.
A skill that can used in the field.
You're not a knight nor will you ever be a knight.
But, Father...
Leave me!
And I expect the next time I see you
to be dressed more befitting.
Prepare your men.
You leave within the hour.
Yes, sire.
What treachery awaits us?
I know you all have questions.
I assure you, I have the answers.
Our order has suffered over many generations.
Our numbers have diminished.
Once we were hundreds strong.
Now we six are all that remain.
In time, even we will disappear.
We have to have faith.
Faith?
Faith is what led us here.
Our legacy is to die because an ignorant king
will not release us from a decree
made by his ignorant ancestor.
We have no choice.
The code binds us to the law.
Then we defy the law.
What are you saying?
We are about to take back that which was ours.
We few who remain, will rebuild the legacy
of the Ebony Knights.
That's why you met with the Deep Elves.
You need allies.
Yes.
I have forged an alliance with Bre'Gwen,
Queen of the Deep Elves.
You would have an alliance with our deepest enemy?
He bowed before them.
Tysiath, you've said nothing, please.
I haven't said anything because I knew.
What?
Jeris made me aware of his plan and I agree with it.
Please, everyone, just hear him out.
For many weeks, the queen's forces have been launching
hit-and-run attacks on the smaller kingdoms.
Which will inspire King Grayraven
to send more troops to aid them.
Effectively spreading his knights out so far
that they will not be allowed to function
as a unified force.
Making them vulnerable when we launch our attacks
against their fortress.
We've devised a plan that will change everything.
No more factions battling for supremacy.
You're talking about a full scale war.
Yes.
And with such an army at our disposal,
we will have the power to do it.
Listen to yourselves.
Having the power doesn't always justify using it.
This war will end the need for any future conflicts.
All races would be united.
Peace throughout the realm and our order restored.
Ghar?
I'm sorry, I can't.
Jeris is leader, Ghar.
The decision has been made.
It's the wrong decision.
I hope you find your accommodations pleasing.
They're fine,
for a prison.
You know, despite what you may think,
you are not a prisoner here.
I'm certainly not here of my own free will.
I'm a pawn in some scheme you've concocted with my mother.
She's using me to gain favor with you.
For what, I can't imagine.
I wasn't born into nobility.
If I'm to be crowned king,
I must marry a royalty.
King?
Do you want to be a king?
Yes.
And I have your mother's blessing.
For the last 300 years, my mother has conquered
the subraces, taken what she wanted.
What makes you think she'll treat you any differently?
Because she needs me.
Needs you?
In this rundown stone hovel,
with your army of what, six men?
Oh yes, I'm certain she won't be able to last
another day without you.
You have no idea who we are, do you?
How much power the Ebony Knights wield?
Get your hands off me.
I know exactly who you are.
You're a renegade knight with no king,
no kingdom, a pale image of an order
lost centuries ago.
Pathetic.
That is about to change.
In the end, you will be my queen.
And you will learn your place.
Bride to a puppet king.
What more could a girl want?
Jeris!
What are you doing here, Ghar?
We need to talk about this alliance.
We do our talking tonight.
I'm sorry.
A knight should never strike a lady,
regardless of her...
Regardless of her what?
Again, I'm sorry.
The strike team is in place, My Queen.
Signal them to proceed.
Tonight King Breckholt dies.
Signal is given.
For the glory of Bre'Gwen.
Uh huh.
This castle is under my protection.
How unfortunate
for you!
Perhaps I should've said our protection.
Fools!
Take them!
Do you really know who resides in this castle?
No.
Thank you, Alandra.
Was there something else?
Are you sure you wanna do this?
It's not a choice.
I have to do this.
Evil is creeping into our realm
and I mean to face it.
If someone should request my presence,
you must stall for me.
And, when that fails...
Give this to my father.
For Greyraven.
How dare you return after you failed me.
The castle was protected.
Your incompetence left King Breckholt alive.
Which can be remedied if you will give us another chance.
Please, my Queen.
If this blade can taste my flesh, then you can live.
If not, you'll join them.
No magic.
Just skill for skill.
Tysiath, I'd have a word with you.
Of course, but I already know what you're thinking.
You're conflicted.
It's understandable.
I'm not the one who's confused.
Ghar, our generation has not seen many battles,
but our ancestors fought in many great campaigns.
War is in our blood.
The time has come for us to fight
for what is rightfully ours.
So, you seek glory.
Don't question my integrity.
I seek justice.
You don't seek justice.
You seek retribution.
What do you hope to accomplish by antagonizing me?
I hope to change your mind.
If we band together, Jeris will be forced to reconsider.
That is not going to happen.
Every leader of our sect has maintained the promise
Galaron made so long ago, a promise to remain hidden
in the shadows until a pardon was given.
A pardon that has never come!
I still have faith.
Then you are a fool.
Your craft is strong.
But, I think you will find that I am quite worthy.
My fight's not with you.
You're just a mindless pawn, in a game with no winners.
You've decided to join us.
Tomorrow, we embark on the first part of our quest.
No, we don't.
I won't let you poison their minds any farther.
You haven't heard the entirety of my plan,
yet you dare challenge it?
I've heard enough.
You may be the strongest among us,
but your actions have proven you don't have the wisdom
to lead us to anything but destruction.
You may not agree with my course of actions,
but there is no need to dishonor me with such words.
You dishonor yourself.
Sounds to me as if you challenge for leadership.
We are knights of the realm.
The sanctity of our ancestors rests in our hands.
If we stay this course,
then everything they fought and died for
will be for nothing.
So, this is a formal challenge.
Yes, and unless you have forsaken the code entirely,
the mantle of leadership will be mine
if I can defeat you in combat.
So be it.
But as the challenged, I call for a fight to the death.
If I die, you will be leader
and can stop whatever I've set in motion.
But if I win, the Ebony Knights will ride
and our enemies will fall.
What are you doing?
What are you doing?
Getting us out of here.
Wait, wait, wait.
We have to leave.
I have to go back.
He'll kill you.
Contu.
Stop.
Turn around.
I need you to take me from this place.
I cannot refuse a lady's request.
But Jeris, he's got to be stopped.
I know.
But not now, not here.
Come.
Ow.
Prepare the horses.
Good morning.
You cast a spell on me.
I needed your help.
So you entranced me.
Would you have come willingly?
I saw the way you looked at me.
Your people have done little to earn my trust.
I understand.
But I am different.
Like you, I don't believe in the path set before me.
I felt trapped,
but your bold act inspired me.
And why would you need my help?
I am unfamiliar with the surface.
I need a guide, a protector.
And where is it you'd like me to take you?
To Grayraven Castle.
We must warn the king.
The king isn't likely to heed the words
of an Ebony Knight or a Deep Elf.
My name is Kyriani.
Kyriani, his men would attack us on sight.
We'll just have to find a way.
We'll stick to the trees.
So you will help me then?
I'll take you as far as the path that leads to Grayraven.
But, after that, you're on your own.
And you?
Wait here!
No!
No!
Please!
Step away from that man.
Thank you, My Lady.
Yah!
Coward.
Prepare for death.
Are you okay?
I didn't need your assistance,
but I thank you.
You're a Grayraven Knight.
Not exactly, but I serve the Kingdom.
Friend of yours?
A traveling companion.
Traitor!
I'm not your enemy.
Then why do you openly wear the mark of the Kingslayers?
Because I belong to the order.
Then you are indeed my enemy.
I'll tell you one more time, I'm not your enemy.
Are we just gonna stand here?
These creatures are bold
attacking during daylight.
They must know of the coming war.
What is it?
I don't think she likes me.
Fair lady, I am Lord Shalomin Songsteel,
the Unvanquished, at your service.
We've been waiting for you.
Waiting for me?
Yes, all of you.
Please, come closer.
You have nothing to fear.
Not anymore.
He's not to be trusted.
His kind are assassins.
Is this true?
No, it's not.
Well, now that that's settled.
Come, we have much to discuss.
The camp is nearby.
I can't.
I'm on my way to join...
I know where you were going,
but that is not where you need to be.
How could he know where I'm going?
He knows a great many things,
but don't fret, he'll explain everything.
It's good to finally meet you.
Finally?
Please, follow us.
I sent for my daughter.
Where is she?
This was in her room.
Get out.
My daughter has left the castle.
She seeks to prove herself.
Oh, she is so much like her mother.
I miss her so.
She was a strong woman, just like Isabelle.
You think I'm too protective?
I think you should allow her to seek her destiny.
Hmm.
And, is this the wisdom of my trusted mage?
No, the advice of a friend.
So be it, I will not interfere with her adventure.
And, may she find the answers that she seeks.
We better.
Hey, want some?
No, but I would like some answers.
Perhaps you can assist us.
We need to make it to Grayraven Castle
for an audience with the king.
The king would kill you if you set one foot on his land.
I told you.
But we bear an important message for him.
The word of an Ebony Knight can never be trusted.
Please, let's just get acquainted.
Yes, I'll tell you the tale of how we all came together.
Just don't sing.
All of us here were destined to meet,
to work together against the evil of the land.
I was the first to be chosen by the Oracle.
I've traveled with him for many years.
Caldir here was next.
We found him on the streets of Zan'Kul
working with the Red Lotus Thieves Guild,
but now he's a man of honor.
You dropped that.
All of it.
Sorry.
We met Shalomin while sailing the Black Seas.
He assisted us during the Troll invasion
of the Firestone Islands.
It was there that the Oracle revealed to me
that I had a greater destiny.
And Reina, strong and proud.
She joined us after we helped her tribe defeat
the Ice Giants of the Everfrost Mountains.
So, he just randomly gathers you on his travels?
You misunderstand.
He told each of us about each other before we ever met.
Not only did he know where to find us,
he knew when to find us.
Just as he told us about you.
Yes, a brave knight of the old code.
The Grayraven Princess.
Princess?
Yes, two of them, one from the surface,
and one from the underworld.
What?
Surprise.
You've got to be joking.
And now the gathering is complete.
Gathered for what?
That will require some explanation.
But we have no time to waste.
I'll have to tell you on the way.
On the way to where?
On the way to where we're going, of course.
What is he talking about?
We don't know.
He does this all the time.
If you wanna know more, we must follow.
Why are we going to the final resting place of Galaron?
To uncover mysteries untold.
A hidden treasure chamber within his crypt.
What treasure?
Galaron had nothing as he passed.
Right, he used the last of his gold to build the keep.
True, but not all treasure was gold and jewels.
Well, what then?
Magic.
Yes, magic.
Magic that will give us the upper hand against Grayraven.
Where did you get this information?
From the Deep Elf Queen.
If she knew of this, why didn't she
just acquire the treasure for herself?
The only known entrance is in a cave system
that spans many miles.
It is riddled with traps and guardians.
Many of her warriors tried.
None ever returned.
But there is a second entrance within the crypt itself.
An entrance that only we Ebony Knights can access.
It will allow us to surpass the traps
to reach the chamber and its treasure.
What is the treasure?
Over a thousand years ago was the great Dragon War
where the mighty wyrms and their minions
fought one another for domination of the world.
The Dragons of Order and their Elven warriors
greatly outnumbered the Dragons of Chaos
and their Dwarven soldiers.
The battles were fierce, but in time,
the evil dragons were routed.
Not ones to accept defeat, the Chaos Dragons
were forced to perform an unholy ritual
summoning Ahriman, a Dracolich,
an undead dragon of enormous power.
Upon being summoned, the Dracolich used its magic
to reanimate the dead, raising all Chaos Dragons
who had fallen in battle.
With Ahriman leading them, the tide of the war turned,
the Dragons of Order began to fall.
The beast was not content in just killing them.
It used its dark power to raise them,
to turn them into the unliving.
A fate far worse than death to a noble dragon.
So the good dragons were defeated?
Not entirely, a few escaped,
led by Draconus, the oldest among them.
Anticipating reprisal, Ahriman called up its magic
to form a protective barrier.
A barrier for what?
A runic circle that repelled any dragon
not under its control.
They had no hope for revenge.
So you would think.
But they devised a plan.
Using their combined magic, they transferred
their very essence into seven swords.
Why?
Because in that form, they would not be victim
to the Dracolich's defensive magic.
And who would wield these swords?
Seven brave heroes were chosen.
Heroes who would carry them into battle
against the Dracolich.
Once it was destroyed, the spirits of those it possessed
would be freed from their eternal prison.
Glorious quest, to face the very heart of evil.
Yes.
Before the Chaos Dragons knew what was happening,
many of them fell as the heroes fought their way
to their intended target.
After passing the gauntlet of its minions,
they finally reached the Dracolich.
So, sacrificing their physical forms was not in vain.
They fought with valor, using the swords
to deal immense damage.
But one by one, they fell before the beast,
their bodies strewn across the same battlefield
of those they came to save.
And the Dracolich?
Badly hurt, it fled.
And after the onslaught, only a few Chaos Dragons remained.
But what does this have to do with the treasure?
Be patient.
If we ride hard, we will be at Galaron's crypt by nightfall.
So, what does all this have to do with us?
When the warriors died that day, the Earth itself
opened up and reclaimed the swords.
They were believed lost forever, but many years ago,
they began to call to me.
They told me to find seven more
who were worthy to wield them.
He means us.
Yes.
Guided by fragmented visions, I traveled across the land
searching for all of you.
Why now, after all these centuries?
Your questions will have to wait.
A ritual must be prepared.
To Galaron,
the brave.
You all remember the tales of Xanthias,
the dark mage who ruled the land
till Galaron sent him to his grave.
There's no need to remind us of that
which we know so well.
Yes, but what you may not know...
Like us, Xanthias was a master of the craft.
At one time Xanthias was an Ebony Knight.
He was dismissed after Galaron discovered
he was using the craft in the darkest of ways.
During his quest for more power,
Xanthias found the lair of Ahriman.
Even after all these centuries, the Dracolich's body
was misshapen and useless.
The creature sensed the power of the craft
and convinced Xanthias to become the vessel for its powers.
Xanthias agreed.
The Dracolich shed its body,
and Xanthias carried its skull into battle.
The Shield of the Dead.
Yes, and because of his mastery of the craft,
Xanthias was able to harness the power of the beast,
power to control the unliving.
You all know the rest of the story.
Only one who is strong in the craft
can use the Shield of the Dead.
But Galaron destroyed the shield.
No.
That's what he led everyone to believe,
but it couldn't be destroyed.
It was far too powerful, so he concealed it.
Is that why we're here, to recover the shield?
Yes.
With such an artifact, no one will dare stand against us.
I'm sorry, Jeris.
I believe in your vision,
but I can take no part in unearthing such evil.
I wouldn't ask you to.
Then why are we here?
What are you doing!
Because I couldn't risk leaving
even one of you alive to oppose me.
You are not strong enough to defeat all of us.
I already have.
Poison.
You dishonor the code.
I spit on the code!
It has done nothing but keep us from our destiny.
Xanthias knew this.
As do I.
Surrender!
I trusted you.
You were a fool.
Your guests have arrived, My Queen.
They await you in the Council Chamber.
We have returned to the place
where the swords were born.
And like the Phoenix, shall arise
from the ashes of the past.
Kneel.
Forged in the hottest fires of the Earth,
cooled in the deepest seas.
They are unbreakable,
and will never dull.
Each possesses unique abilities
that will assist you in combat.
And defensive magic that will protect you from harm.
You are now one with the seven words of Draconus.
Whatever peril awaits, you will face it together.
Why have I been kept waiting?
And why have I had to share a table
with these savage wretches?
Yes, I was under the impression
my marauders were alone in this alliance.
Relax Skel'Odryn.
Lord Aurin, we are all allies here.
I will never align my warriors with such rabble.
Neither will we.
If you will not stand with us,
then I will assume you stand against us.
Very well, you may continue.
My warriors and assassins have launched assaults
on the surface kingdoms.
So I've heard.
Yet, you have not seized a single castle,
nor have you secured any lands.
No, but we have caused a great deal of discord
among the humans and elves.
Perfect, so you've angered them like hornets.
Exactly, hornets that have left their nests unprotected.
What do you mean?
We're spreading them out, keeping them busy
while our true plan is set into motion.
And that plan would be?
A full scale invasion of all the human
and elven kingdoms,
all at once,
one clean sweep.
Attacking them all at once?
That would be suicide.
I will not lend my reavers to you as fodder
in such a reckless attack.
We have another ally that will lead the attack,
one whose army is greater than all of ours combined.
Nonsense.
No such force exists.
What army?
The legion of the fallen,
raised with the power of the one who controls
the Shield of the Dead.
As we speak, the plan to recover the shield
is well underway.
Once it is in our possession,
we will be unstoppable.
And you are certain the shield can be obtained?
Yes.
My pride will join you for this final conquest.
Go back.
Death awaits those who cross the threshold.
I do not know how you were able to cross the seals,
but you do not belong here.
Why have you come here, brother?
I come for the Shield of the Dead.
Have you uncovered the secret to its final destruction?
Perhaps, but I must see it for myself.
It lies with Galaron.
I pray that you can dispose of it
and release us from our eternal vigil.
Oracle, what is it?
Of course.
I should have known.
An evil lost has been found.
An army long asleep shall awaken.
Ahriman.
That would not be wise.
Galaron.
A gift from the Silver Elves.
I knew this day would come.
And, once again, I would look into the eyes
of one who was summoned by the shield.
But, I did not think it would be one of our own.
I seek to rebuild what you sacrificed.
Do you think the answer lies within the shield?
Yes.
You are misguided.
Do you not remember the code?
Who are you to preach the code?
You, sworn to protect a king,
a king who died by your hand.
So, you are using my sacrifice to justify your actions.
Regardless of the power that brought you back,
you're old, once again standing at death's gate.
I have been through death's gate...
twice.
Do you intend to take the shield by force?
I do.
Then you leave me no choice.
Our power has stopped all those
who sought its evil.
And, you are no different.
Your power is legendary, but I am stronger.
Physical conflict is not my tactic.
I call upon all the spirits
who serve me as guardians.
In our final stand, let what remains
of all our energy
show him the error of his ways.
Die.
You will be punished, infidel.
Die, traitor.
You must die.
You have brought us life and we are free, free.
Arrogant fools.
Death cannot take him from me.
I am his salvation.
And, he is mine.
Oracle, Oracle, are you all right?
Your vision, what did you see?
The Shield of the Dead.
What?
How is that possible?
Its power has been unleashed
by an Ebony Knight.
Jeris.
And what of the other knights,
the ones who ride with him?
They have fallen.
Is this the shield of legend?
Yes, and with its power, he can raise
thousands of the dead, maybe more.
We need an army.
No army can defeat this threat.
That responsibility is yours, and yours alone.
This is why the swords called for me.
The Shield of the Dead must be destroyed.
I was afraid you weren't coming.
You have succeeded?
Yes.
And, the power?
Intoxicating.
You have it, but can you control it?
Why don't you ask them?
Today I begin building the army of my new empire.
But first, hold them!
What are you doing?
Keeping a promise.
As you can see, the magic in the swords is very powerful.
How do we use it?
A good grip, a swift swing.
I think he's referring to the magic.
Ah, it will emerge as needed.
But before the swords will surrender their power to you,
you must complete your task.
How do we find the shield?
Yes, and the man who wields it.
They are both beyond the Devilspine Mountains,
the final battleground of the Dragon War.
Then we better move swiftly.
We can be there in two days.
No.
You must arrive before nightfall tonight
or it will be too late.
How is that possible?
I can create a portal that will get you close,
but my magic cannot penetrate the veil of darkness
that surrounds the battlefield.
So we must travel through the Devilspine Mountains?
Yes, and you must beware
of the vile denizens that dwell there.
You're not going with us, are you?
No.
This is a battle you must face alone.
The fate of all of Ryntia rests in your hands.
I thought the energy we wielded by tapping
into our life force was the ultimate gift,
but it is nothing compared to the anti-energy of death.
I have never felt such limitless power.
You served me well in life.
Now, you will stand by my side for eternity.
Begin the summoning.
And, these, too?
Is the spell of transformation complete?
Soon.
Begin the summoning.
They heed your commands.
Yes, I can feel them.
They answer the call.
They are coming.
But, the walking dead are just the beginning.
Yes, Tyranus and Sinder.
They once served Xanthias.
Now they will serve you.
They never travel alone.
You're just paranoid.
Let's go.
You cannot leave the confines of the circle
unless I will it so.
The skull of Ahriman.
What is it you wish of us?
I seek knowledge, a spell of transmutation.
In exchange for this information, your sworn loyalty,
I will sever the cords that bind you to the sub-planes.
You would free us from our damnation?
I would allow you to remain in this world
as long as you serve me.
Paranoid, huh?
So, thanks for your help.
I was trying to be inspirational.
I was inspired.
All has been prepared.
With the rise of the moon, your transformation will begin.
It doesn't look so bad.
If I call upon my God, I may be able to banish them,
but we need to get them close together.
We need bait.
Oh come on....
Take heart my friend.
There's evil to vanquish and women to love.
Can't we just do the second part?
Anytime...
One?
One, that's it?
I think it's time to get a new god!
That wasn't so bad.
Down there.
They're being summoned.
If we destroy the shield, the spell that animates the dead
will be broken.
Then, let's go.
This must be it.
Hand me that torch.
This place reeks of death.
Well, then I guess we're in the right place.
Fools.
We have intruders.
I cannot wait for the moon to rise.
I must cast the spell now.
We will deal with these intruders.
Destroy them!
Which way?
The wind travels freely both directions.
We have no time.
We should split up.
I agree.
Isabelle, Shalomin and I will go this way.
If we hit a dead end, we'll double back and rejoin you.
May the goddess protect us all.
Ghar.
Be careful.
And you.
Oh, hold on.
Here, take that.
Caldir, don't touch that.
That's cave spider venom.
Yeah, I know.
Then you know how deadly it is.
Yeah, yeah.
Do you have anything to put it in?
No, we don't.
We do not have time for this.
Let's go.
Do you guys know how much this is worth?
Come on.
Looks like it opens up ahead.
I sense more undead.
That was to be expected.
These are different.
What do you mean, different?
I'm not sure, but it doesn't matter.
They bar our path.
Wait.
This symbol.
I can sense it, too.
This is the rune was used to banish the Dragons of Light
during the great war.
How could you possibly know that?
My sword.
They say it is so.
Yeah, I didn't hear anything.
We still have to destroy it.
No.
Disrupting a rune can be very dangerous.
They're normally equipped with a defensive magic
that will destroy anything that disturbs it.
- Reina! - No!
No!
What's wrong with you?
Did you not hear her?
You could have killed all of us.
The sword,
beckoned the attack.
Must be a girl thing.
Your efforts are wasted.
There are no more dragons in this world.
Ah, I see.
I sense their presence.
You destroyed it to appease the spirits
trapped in your blades.
How touching.
It seems the rune was not the only thing
they want us to destroy.
Ebony Knights.
Merely vessels animated with death magic.
I'm sorry.
That can't be good.
I sense you bring the stench of dragons
into the master's sanctum.
We carry the light that burns away the darkness
and those who dwell within it.
Brave words.
I will savor the taste of your flesh.
Kill them.
Yeah.
Is he...
He's gone.
I can draw upon my life force to heal his wounds,
but only if you can restore his spark of life.
I've questioned my faith.
I don't think...
Perhaps together.
What happened?
You were vanquished.
Let's go.
There, the shield must be there.
Mother?
You've made it this far.
I commend you.
But, you have no hope
against the Spirit of the Shield.
She's stalling.
Something's happening.
Step aside, witch.
You will not interfere.
Did you really think we'd come unprepared?
Your reign of terror ends here.
Our reign has just begun.
Ahriman.
(dragon growling
Reina wait!
Tar'i, no!
Over here, beast.
Ghar!
Jeris?
No!
Foolish mortals.
You cannot stop death.
Death, death, death is eternal.
My minions have arrived.
Feel the wrath of the code!
It's over.
The eighth dragon?
Yes, I am Draconus, the last of my kind.
You have cleansed the land of this evil
and freed those trapped within its grasp.
Your spirits are like those within the swords you possess,
my old friends.
In the hands of those worthy to become known as
the Seven Swords!
While my armies were chasing shadows,
you seven were vanquishing the threat at its source.
All the kingdoms of Ryntia will forever be in your debt.
I grant you a full pardon,
to you and to anyone that possesses the powers
that you wield.
I grant you land that you may rebuild your order.
Where there was evil, you broke the chains of hatred.
You found the strength to control your destiny,
an act that will never be forgotten.
I doubted you
and I was wrong.
From now on,
you will be known as Lady Isabelle,
a brave knight of the Grayraven Kingdom.
Rise Heroes of Ryntia!
I salute you.
