Yes, that is Mark Newton. He was pronounced dead on scene.

It's pretty unusual for a city councilman to have a bodyguard.

It's still unclear if there was an ongoing threat

or just a one-time occurrence.

The other guard, Junior Sancho, was able to secure Councilman Hill.

Both Sancho and Newton worked for Kulinda Tactical Security,

a high-end private security firm.

Fun fact: Kulinda actually means "to protect” in Swahili.

It kind of works out.

Look, I get that Councilman Hill's done a lot good for L.A.,

but why did we pull this case?

Well, the victim was a Navy reservist.

- And the real reason? - The councilman's father

once played football with a man who is now a U.S. senator.

- So Hetty got a phone call. - There it is.

That doesn't make any sense.

Shooter's got line of sight towards Hill but then he pivots back to Newton.

The killer wanted to kill the bodyguard so he could kidnap him easy.

Yeah, but after Newton goes down, shooter never fires again.

Maybe Hill wasn't the target.

Maybe he was here to kill Newton.

and they had a deal with Syria that went sideways...

The Syrians would want revenge.
