He was pronounced dead on scene.

It's pretty unusual for a city councilman
to have a bodyguard.

It's still unclear
if there was an ongoing threat

or just a one-time occurrence.

The other guard, Junior Sancho,
was able to secure Councilman Hill.

Both Sancho and Newton worked
for Kulinda Tactical Security,

a high-end private security firm.

Fun fact: Kulinda actually means
"to protect” in Swahili.

It kind of works out.

Look, I get that Councilman Hill's
done a lot good for L.A.,

but why did we pull this case?

Well, the victim
was a Navy reservist.

- And the real reason?
- The councilman's father

once played football with a man
who is now a U.S. senator.

- So Hetty got a phone call.

Shooter's got line of sight towards Hill
but then he pivots back to Newton.

The killer wanted to kill the bodyguard
so he could kidnap him easy.

Yeah, but after Newton goes down,
shooter never fires again.

Maybe Hill wasn't the target.
