I am Kelvin.

I have no recollections of my past life.

I've been reincarnated into this world, and I'm living as an adventurer now.

According to the Goddess Melfina, who is in charge of my reincarnation,

me before reincarnation

bartered away my memories in exchange for more abilities in this world.

Something must be wrong with me.

After completing the assignments from the guild every day,

Clotho and I have leveled up.

Due to my double growth rate and skill points,

I've gotten a bonus of 100 skill points when I leveled up.

Among all those skills, I chose the rank D

Concealment Skill.

After all, I'm a reincarnated person with a unique skill.

For a peaceful life in this world,

it's better to level up my Concealment Skill to rank B.

By the way, Clotho gained

a rank F absorption skill when it leveled up.

SKILL: ABSORPTION (F) RESISTANCE TO ATTACK

ORIGINAL STORY BY: DOUFU MAYOI

Kelvin.

Congratulations!

After completing this assignment, you've been leveled up to rank E.

Thank you.

To be honest,

when you took on higher-ranking assignments without a party,

we were quite worried about you.

It's not that you don't want a party, but it's because you can't.

If I join a party, they'll find out that I'm a summoner.

After all, even without a party, I have Clotho as my reliable partner.

But you are trying to keep a low profile, right?

He ranked up that quickly.

Not long ago, he was just a rank F newbie, right?

And he is alone?

Is he a mage in trouble that had to change his occupation to become an adventurer?

Kelvin.

Were you a royal mage working for a country in the past?

You are too powerful as a newbie.

Well…

I can't tell you about it. I'm sorry.

No. I should apologize to you instead.

It's taboo to ask an adventurer this kind of question.

But you have to be careful after this.

Based on your modus operandi,

you are going to take assignments from rank D, right?

Yes. That's my plan.

Don't worry.

If it feels dangerous to me, I'll run away at once.

I'm confident that I can run away very quickly.

You should at least upgrade your equipment.

Kelvin, you have exactly the same equipment

that you bought last week.

Okay. I'll upgrade my equipment.

Please show me the rank D assignments.

For rank D, what about killing the Black Spirit Knight?

Black Spirit Knight?

You are back, Cassil.

Ange, I'm back.

I just came back with a victory.

You've worked hard. How was your assignment?

Of course, I've completed it.

Taking down the Lizardman's nest took me longer.

After all, it's a rank C assignment.

By the way,

I heard that you've just leveled up to rank E.

Congratulations.

As your senior, I'm happy for you.

You are?

I haven't introduced myself.

My name is Cassil. A rank D adventurer.

I can't believe him. He is as powerful as a rank B adventurer.

Killing newbies is his favorite hobby.

Looks like he's targeting the arrogant newbie

who always accepts higher-ranking assignments.

Cassil is indeed the strongest adventurer in this guild.

Do we have to warn that mage?

My party is going to take down the Black Spirit Knight.

Do you want to join us?

Please wait.

Although this is a rank D assignment,

according to the reports,

that Black Spirit Knight is extremely powerful.

It's too dangerous for Kelvin, who has just ranked up.

Don't worry, Ange.

As long as we cooperate well with each other, we'll be fine.

Well…

Thank you for your invite, but I can't join your party.

Someone like me will be useless to your party.

You don't have to be so humble.

He's as powerful as Clotho,

and he has some dangerous skills, but the biggest issue is his title.

Killer.

But looks like he's not going to let me go.

Let's do this then.

How about we compete?

Compete?

Yes. Let's see who can defeat the Black Spirit Knight first.

Of course, I'll fight him alone.

That's not an enemy you can take on alone.

I'll still go with my party. Will that be okay for you?

I'm fine with it.

You are so confident.

I'll accept your challenge then.

Then, I'll jump right into the trap.

I think Cassil will try to kill me

when I'm fighting the Black Spirit Knight or after the fight.

His party is very suspicious too.

-They are strong enough to take me on. -Carl, don't push me.

-Tell him that Cassil is a dangerous man. -Will you be fine?

-I want to see what I'm capable of -He's talking to himself.

-right now. -I am terrified.

It feels like we are going to trap him instead.

You are so noisy.

Yes!

Kelvin, be careful.

All the best.

I'll be quiet.

So, how is he?

Boss.

I think that newbie is quite strong.

I have a rank C Appraisal Skill.

His Concealment Skill is at least rank C and above.

I thought that he was all brawn and no brain.

But you can't even check his status with your Appraisal Skill.

Does he have a secret?

Cassil, we can squash this one like what we did last time, right?

Let me go first.

Lage, calm down.

He challenged us right away.

As his seniors, we have to compliment him for his courage.

We are guiding him, right?

Lage, don't break him too quickly.

You have to be gentler.

I don't understand complicated things.

I'll just do what I usually do.

I hope that you can be entertaining to us,

newbie.

NAME: CASSIL

SKILL: SWORDSMANSHIP (B)

WHITE MAGIC (E)

STEALTH (E)

CONCEALMENT (F)

ANCIENT CITY OF EVIL SPIRITS

What happened?

All of the Undead Monsters have been defeated.

Cassil, you are here.

Both of them are your party members, right?

A dark green staff.

So, he's a Green mage.

What an idiot.

Your equipment has betrayed your status.

Looks like the Black Spirit Knight is behind is door.

I thought we were going to compete,

but you are waiting for me instead.

Could it be

that you need our help because you know that you can't defeat it alone?

No. I'll win this competition for sure.

But it'll be troublesome if you disturb my fight with the Black Spirit Knight.

Your target is me, right?

Let's settle it here.

He knows about our plan.

But you are still here by yourself. Interesting.

Are you hired by the guild?

Or are you here for the bounty on Lage and my companion?

No wonder you have such a high-ranking Concealment Skill.

So, you are a bounty hunter pretending to be a newbie.

Bounty? Are they wanted criminals?

It still doesn't change what you have to do.

Yes, you are right.

No. It's just a coincidence.

Besides, you are the one who wants to kill me first, right?

That coward with all muscles over there, come at me!

Who are you calling a coward?

You are just a mage. Don't look down on me!

Lage, he's trying to agitate you.

What did you do, you brat?

Rank D Green magic, Mud Bind.

This magic can turn land into a bottomless mud pit

to restrict your opponent's mobility.

Not only that, but he also used the Concealment Skill.

First, he laid down the Mud Bind trap.

Then, he hid it with Concealment?

I couldn't see it with my Detection Skill.

Darn it. A little mud is no match for my muscles.

Wind Slash.

I'm sorry. I have to leave first.

Don't you dare run away!

My instinct is warning me that the newbie is a very dangerous man!

Jim has escaped.

Cassil will reach you in a few seconds.

Yes, I know. It's within my expectations.

Come forth, Clotho. Don't let him get away.

What?

Clotho has evolved from blue slime to Slime Gluttony.

SLIME GLUTTONY

It's known as the Devourer.

What kind of slime is that?

I had never seen anything like that before.

A FEW DAYS AGO

That's it for today.

What's wrong?

Were you hurt in the battle just now?

No. Clotho is going to evolve now.

Slime Gluttony.

It's the legendary monster

that destroyed half of the Water Kingdom of Toraj centuries ago.

Slime Gluttony.

You are amazing, Clotho.

He has 81 points in endurance. But this is it?

Berserker Fist!

Cassil, I'll take care of the slime!

You are all alone now.

Please take care of me, Cassil!

You are too strong.

Just because it's easier to level up like this, you've become a newbie killer

instead of fighting monsters.

I can't believe you.

I'll hand you over to the guild later.

We are now done with our warming up.

Next, you'll face the target that you've been waiting for.

Finally, I'm going to face

the legendary Black Spirit Knight.

Level 53, and he has a name.

I really want him as my companion.

You are not nervous at all.

Why are you here?

At first, I wanted to kill you,

but I've changed my mind.

I am Kelvin, the summoner.

I want to sign a Binding Contract with you.

OCCUPATION: DARK KNIGHT

SKILL: LOYALTY (SPECIAL SKILL)

SWORDSMANSHIP (A)

Lately, everyone just attacked me as soon as they saw me.

You are the first to talk to me.

Actually, I've just recently become a monster.

To be honest, I used to be a captain of the knights who served the country.

I was a human.

I don't know how I became a monster.

To be honest, why am I here?

I don't know. Maybe I'm not ready to leave yet.

Who is this person?

He's just an old man who likes to talk.

Although I don't know what keeps me here,

I know that I've been guarding this palace ever since.

Do you want a candy?

Sure.

I never thought

that the Black Spirit Knight would be someone like this.

Maybe he's just happy because he hasn't talked to anyone in a long time.

I understand how he feels.

Why does this candy taste so weird?

I've kept it for a long time. I never thought that you would eat it.

You shocked me.

Okay, Uncle. Let's go out and talk.

Talk to him about the Binding Contract.

That's right.

Are you willing to sign the Binding Contract with me?

A Binding Contract?

The king and the country that I once served no longer exist.

I don't mind serving a new king.

But you want to see what I'm capable of, right?

Okay. I understand.

But you better give it your all.

Or else, it'll be pointless.

You are bold, despite being weaker than me.

You are interesting, brat.

Here I go, Uncle.

Don't call me "uncle". I'm Gerard, you brat.

Don't call me brat. I'm Kelvin.

Wind Shock.

Clotho!

He blocked Clotho's attack from his blind spot.

Gerard has the Insight Skill.

He can dissect all movements in a battle in an instant.

Brat, give it your all. Or else, it'll be pointless.

Ultimate Cliff.

Self-explosion? This slime can do a lot of tricks.

Jump to the side with all your might!

Jawbreaker.

This is bad. I couldn't see his attack at all just now.

Groundbreaker!

He can still fight on unstable ground?

He's really amazing.

But…

Heavy Wind Pressure!

This is…

Magic that limits your mobility with air pressure.

Don't push yourself too hard, Uncle!

I won't be defeated here.

Honey.

I remember now.

A nation with an advanced agriculture industry and flourishing floras, Alcahl.

It was small but peaceful. It was my home.

One day, an elf messenger, Gildera, came from the West.

Join us, the Empire of Lizea, to defeat the Holy Empire of Deramis.

King Alcar.

Do you think we are idiots?

Of course, our king rejected their request.

But the elf said this…

Wise king. Don't forget this.

If you don't obey the command of Lizea, you'll have to pay for it.

Get Coney, our daughter…

Betty.

Alcahl was destroyed in just a few days.

You've done your best. Rest in peace.

I'm already at my limit. What should I do?

That's right.

Do you want a candy, Coney?

For this country

and to avenge Alcahl.

This is why I'm still here!

Unbelievable. He destroyed my Heavy Wind Pressure spell.

Brat, will you be able…

Ultimate Cliff.

…to eliminate this obsession of mine?

Heavy Wind Pressure.

Stop!

Now, Clotho!

Shoot!

Coney.

Betty.

I…

THE NEXT DAY

We've confirmed that this is a part of the Black Spirit Knight's armor.

You've completed your assignment!

You are amazing, newbie!

You managed to defeat that dangerous Black Spirit Knight.

I've always disliked Cassil and his gang.

Thank you for teaching them a lesson for us.

You better confess all of the crimes that you've committed.

Get ready to die.

Kelvin.

After our assessment,

this assignment is too difficult to be a rank D assignment.

We've made the exception to let you rank up.

The president of the guild has a gift for you.

It's great that you made it out alive.

You keep surprising me, Kelvin.

Yes. I was shocked too.

That Black Spirit Knight is so powerful.

The receptionist just now is so beautiful.

Is she a candidate to be your consort?

Wait. Your fiancée is me.

What? You already have a fiancée. Be loyal.

That's right.

CLOTHO: GLUTTONY SLIME (LEVEL 15) GERARD: DARK KNIGHT (LEVEL 53)

Be quiet!

Gerard.

Although I asked you not to call me brat, don't address me as Your Majesty.

You are a king because you are served by a knight.

And I'm not Melfina's fiancé.

You are just using me as an excuse, so you don't have to do your work.

Well…

Look. There's someone in front of you.

Don't change the subject.

The weather is great today.
