[Are You the One]

[Episode 8]

Still awake?

What are you doing with your hands like that?

Husband, look at this fabric. Isn't it nice?

Why are you dressed like that?

Doesn't it look nice?

It's made from Xiangyun silk and expensive.

I wore this for you to see.

Well, I can be closer to you.

Husband, you...

Husband, you...

Fan Hu has been watching that group of bandits for days.

Everyone, including the leader from Mount Yang who were here previously

takes orders from a young master.

That person is probably Lu Wen.

Where is he now?

In a residence in Qingzhou.

Qingzhou?

Isn't that Shi Yikuan's territory?

Lu Wen anticipated that you wouldn't make it to Qingzhou

as you and Shi Yikuan are at odds.

What's wrong, Your Highness?

If Shi Yikuan captures the Mount Yang rebels, it would be a great achievement.

But he went to Zhenzhou.

Two cats are after one mouse.

He didn't mobilize his troops

to test my strength.

Perhaps, he's playing dirty behind the scenes, and Qingzhou hasn't caught on yet.

I know he's in Qingzhou. Shi Yikuan naturally is aware too.

Ever since he visited Zhenzhou,

I've been feeling uneasy.

There may be something more about Lu Wen that we are unaware of.

So, should we go to Qingzhou?

Yes. We must go.

Besides, we have one more bargaining chip.

Wife, why aren't you eating?

I fear your staring will create a hole in my face.

I didn't.

What's on your mind?

I was thinking,

thinking that our porcelain shop has been doing well lately.

Some old customers of the He family came, and praised our quality.

That's good.

But we're still basking in the He family's glow.

Those noble patrons don't know much about Yushao Porcelain Shop.

Husband, perhaps you could check Prince of Huaiyang's daily schedule.

Who?

Prince of Huaiyang.

I can intercept him and give him a valuable gift as gratitude from the villagers

by offering a precious handmade item from our shop.

If we obtain his recognition,

next year, we could make an exclusive plate for the Consort Dowager,

featuring a small portrait of Prince of Huaiyang

with several small "longevity" characters subtly embedded in his eyes...

Moru, what's wrong?

Wife, you're not a bandit who robs and plunders. How can you intercept a royal carriage?

Not to mention, the plate might not even be delivered.

What if you are beaten by them to show their power? This won't do.

People bearing valuable gifts with smiles won't be beaten up.

Fine. Even if Prince of Huaiyang accepts your gift,

do you think that proud and aloof Mr. Chen Shi would follow the custom?

You're right.

Husband, you're thorough in your thinking. I was too hasty.

Wife, if you're thinking about making a name for our shop,

I have a plan.

What is it?

In a few days, Shi Yikuan, Chief Commander of Qingzhou, will hold a painting and calligraphy gathering.

He admires skilled calligraphers and painters the most.

If we could have Mr. Chen Shi

present the plate to General Shi,

it would make a name for us.

Wife, let's go to Qingzhou.

I don't think it's appropriate.

Why not?

I asked around.

We need influential figures to get us into that gathering.

How could commoners like us attend?

Besides, I heard that General Shi doesn't only love paintings and calligraphy,

he loves to abduct beautiful women even more.

He has nine concubines.

Instead of seeing him, we might as well intercept Prince of Huaiyang's carriage.

At least he wouldn't do anything dishonorable.

I'm afraid you might be overthinking it.

Right now, Qingzhou is bustling with customers and collectors.

Even if we can't get into the gathering,

there are still more opportunities there than in Zhenzhou.

And they will have a garden market before the gathering.

I want to take you there.

Nanny Li,

let's select some fine porcelain from the shop in the afternoon and load them into the carriage for the trip.

Okay.

[Qingzhou]

Amazing!

Buy one. Let your good luck and fragrance spread far and wide.

Miss, do you want one?

- Great!- Miss, do you want one?

So beautiful.

- Please wrap it up for me. - Yes.

Floral fabric!

My husband persuaded us to go to Qingzhou but he hasn't set off from home yet.

There's a small match at the Go Club. He can't leave yet.

He'll arrive tomorrow.

[Southern Go Shop]

Nanny Li, let's go in and have a look.

Roasted nuts for sale!

Smell great and taste amazing!

Welcome. Please have a look.

Our new stock is over there. Please have a look.

Go enthusiasts will be hooked if they see these.

Shopkeeper, how much is this white jade Go board?

15 taels of gold.

This Go board is reserved and paid for.

Madam, please check out the other designs.

No need, thank you.

Goodbye. See you next time.

Sir, I'll wrap it up for you.

No need.

If that lady comes back, sell it to her at a discount.

If you want to give it to her, just do it directly.

If she knows it's from me, she probably won't take it.

But how much discount should I give?

I'll leave that up to you.

Alright.

So, they met each other?

They entered the same shop but it was quite crowded.

Madam Liu left first. Nanny Li followed closely behind.

She said she didn't see any young man.

If it were Lu Wen, he would take actions.

Keep a close eye on Liu Miantang. Report on any developments.

Yes.

[Qingzhou Inn]

That white jade Go board was truly beautiful.

A pity even if it was reserved for me, I still can't afford it.

Madam, you've been talking about the Go board all night.

Stop thinking about it.

The shopkeeper said it was reserved and paid by someone. How can you buy it?

Tomorrow, let's visit the sights and streets of Qingzhou.

Master said you should enjoy yourself and buy whatever you like.

Didn't you say he's busy with lessons at the Go Club?

Don't worry about whether I'm having fun.

He's always looking out for me and protecting me

and I can't even afford to buy him a Go board.

Great! Excellent!

This is it. Please have a look.

Never mind.

I must manage Yushao Porcelain Shop well so that one day,

I can buy a nice Go board for him.

Madam, you were here yesterday, right?

Maybe this Go board and I aren't meant to be.

I can see you really like it.

What a coincidence.

The customer who reserved this was picky and complained that it wasn't exquisite and had flaws.

He'd rather lose the deposit than keep it.

Really?

I'm worried about finding a buyer.

If you don't mind, I can offer it to you at a discount.

How much is it?

Five taels of gold.

I'll lower it by one tael.

If you can pay four taels of gold, it's yours.

Two taels of gold.

I won't pay a single tael more.

Okay. Deal. I'll wrap it up for you.

Madam, you're impressive.

People say gold, silver and jade shops make a lot of money

but I didn't really believe it until today.

A Go board worth just two taels of gold can sell for over ten taels.

So it's not made from high-quality jade.

But I wonder what tricks they used to make it look so clear and pure.

I suppose the customer who placed the order realized this at the last minute

and decided to cancel the deal and lose the deposit.

I wonder how much the customer was ripped off by the merchant.

That's right.

Your Highness, the fish has taken the bait.

Madam, why don't you visit some other shops?

I'll wait here.

Okay.

Take the Go board directly to the inn later.

We don't want it getting damaged in the crowd.

Yes.

Nanny Li, let's go.

[Southern Go Shop]

Take a look at this.

Nanny Li?

Come back if you like it.

Nanny Li, what's wrong?

Moru? Where is Madam?

Madam is with His Highness. Don't worry.

Husband, you came at the right time!

Look at the bustling garden market.

Yes, it is.

Great!

Husband, look.

Let's go there and check it out.

Okay. Here you go.

- Thank you. - You're welcome.

It's hot.

- Husband, try this. - Too sweet. You eat it.

[Pie]

Young Master.

Candied hawthorns.

- Madam, would you like one? - Yes, please.

Here you go.

- Take it. - Okay.

Thank you.

Wife, can I have one?

Husband, I thought you don't have a sweet tooth.

But I love sour food.

The doctor advised you not to worry too much.

Too many worries can make you sick.

I know you've been missing Sister Liu

but she left Mount Yang and found her love.

If she isn't married, I'd do whatever it takes to bring her back.

♫ The boat drifts along the river, returning with the sunset ♫

Miantang misunderstood us...

and said she wanted to cut ties with me and will never acknowledge me.

How can you bring her back?

♫ Loving the wrong person is part of life's twists and turns ♫

Besides...

♫ Who hasn't lived in the clouds and held snow for thousands of miles? ♫

I'm afraid she no longer has feelings for me.

It's all my fault.

I didn't treat her well.

But is that person really her true love?

Do you want to try a shadow play?

A shadow play.

Husband, you seem to have changed.

What do you mean?

You never used to be in such a good mood.

It's rare to go out and have fun. Of course, we should make the most out of it.

Let's go.

Shopkeeper,

may I play with this for a while? I'll give you money.

- Here you go. - Okay. Please go ahead.

Thank you.

♫ My lifelong wish is to reach the sky and beyond ♫

I can only give it a shake.

- Have you ever played this? - No.

No? Let me show you.

Look. There are three sticks.

Hold this with your right hand.

♫ Under the moonlight, the couple's hearts unite with the stars ♫

♫ The long-hidden light in your eyes flickers to life ♫

♫ If it weren't for the thousand miles of clouds and snow ♫

Let's go. I'll take you to the next spot.

[Notice]

"A special individual Go game to foster friendship for members."

Husband, look.

The prize for this game is a place at the painting and calligraphy gathering.

Husband, it's a great opportunity.

The future of our shop depends on your success today.

It's too difficult. I can't solve it.

That's true.

The great scholars in the academy designed this game. It must be profound.

It's normal that you can't solve it.

We'll figure out another way later.

Table B solved it and won the prize.

Congratulations, Young Master. Here's your prize.

Give it to that lady.

What's wrong?

- This gentleman wants to give the prize to the lady. - It's okay.

No need.

- It seems this lady really wants the prize. - Are you sure you're okay?

You can take it, sir.

My wife can't accept such a generous gift.

Since this gentleman can't solve it but I can,

it's not a problem.

You must be a Go expert, since you were able to solve it.

- May I know your name? - My courtesy name is Ziyu.

And what may I call you?

I'm Cui Jiu.

So, Ziyu, would you like to play a match with me?

Please.

It's a blitz game.

Once a move is made, it's final.

If someone isn't highly skilled, they wouldn't dare play like this.

This man and Jiu are evenly matched.

But why can I keep up with them,

especially Ziyu?

His every move aligns perfectly with my thoughts.

It's as if I've played like this before.

Why do I feel so uneasy and get a headache when I see him?

Have I met him before?

I lost fair and square.

You are truly skilled, Ziyu.

I hope we can have a game again in the future.

Certainly.

- Madam. - Dear.

- I'll get you some tea. - Have a seat and rest for a bit.

Are you feeling dizzy again?

Not dizzy. I have a headache. A terrible one.

Did you remember something?

I'm not sure.

It just hurts for no reason.

Foster Father.

As you predicted, everything's going just as planned.

But there is one thing...

What is it?

Liu Miantang is still alive.

And Young Master can't let her go.

As long as she's alive, she remains a threat.

I'm worried that his attachment to her might jeopardize our plan.

I know what you're thinking.

In my view,

the biggest threat to the plan so far

is your useless infatuation with him.

I'm sorry.

I shouldn't have...

let my emotions get in the way.

But, Foster Father, are we really going to let her go?

Have you forgotten that the 300,000 taels of gold missing from Mount Yang's accounts

are still with her?

No, I haven't.

I know what to do.

Miantang. I can explain.

Since you've made your choice, I have nothing more to say.

After today, we will sever all ties, and leave our fates to destiny.

- No. Don't go. - Let go of me!

Dear.

It's okay. It's okay.

Honey...

How do you feel? Is your head still hurting?

Easy.

I just had a nightmare.

What did you dream of?

I dreamt that my husband was with another woman.

I felt disappointed and very angry.

So you dreamt that I was with another woman?

Let go of me!

Perhaps. I didn't see it clearly.

It was just a dream. It doesn't count.

Ziyu...

Do you remember him?

Honey. Why are you suddenly asking about this?

You were very emotional when you saw him today,

and said your head was hurting.

So, you're making me overthink things.

It's just my old ailment acting up.

That man was so forward.

He wanted to give me the prize for no reason, which made me feel quite embarrassed.

If he gave me the headache, it's because he made me angry.

Never mind.

I was just joking with you.

See you, gentlemen. [Qingzhou Inn]

Let's stay at this inn.

Are you here to dine or stay?

Stay.

Madam. Physician Zhao's medicinal soup that he gave you earlier.

Please drink it while it's warm.

Come on.

Nanny Li, please have a seat.

Nanny Li. yesterday,

Have you heard of or met Mr. Ziyu,

the one we met at the academy?

If she asks about Lu Wen,

wait for the right moment to subtly share some information.

See if it triggers her memory.

But don't be too obvious, or she'll become suspicious.

Just follow her lead and guide the conversation a bit.

- Yes, I-I have. - So who is he?

So who is he? And who did you hear that from?

Did I know him before I lost my memory?

From his look yesterday, it felt like we knew each other.

But Jiu seemed to be meeting him for the first time.

Nanny Li, is there a connection between Ziyu and me?

I...

- He... - Who is he? Why can't you tell me?

He...

He was your shack job.

What nonsense are you talking about?

My Lord, you've been going up against Lu Wen for years.

Was the man from yesterday him?

Everyone in Mount Yang obeys him.

That day, even that woman in charge followed him.

But Ziyu seems refined and scholarly,

not ruthless at all,

which is quite different from what I expected.

W-What are you thinking about all the time?

H-How could I possibly be that kind of woman?

How could I betray my husband?

I don't know much either.

But you're smart. You should know

that my words aren't just empty talk.

How about you thinking it over again?

But thinking it over, his demeanor is exceptional.

His style and strategy in Go

bear a resemblance to the Lu Wen I know.

His style feels so familiar.

It's hard to believe we don't know each other.

And the way he looked at me...

The way he looked at Liu Miantang was full of admiration, like a long-awaited reunion,

mixed with jealousy towards an old lover who's now married to someone else.

I've heard that Lu Wen from Mount Yang deeply cherished his beloved concubine.

Now it seems...

Yesterday, when Jiu played Go with him,

there was a strange tension.

And even when I first woke up,

Jiu and I felt so distant, like we weren't even a couple.

Could it be because of him?

Ziyu must be Lu Wen.

Now that his identity is confirmed,

should we mobilize the troops and capture him?

The last leg of a journey is halfway.

He's been in Qingzhou for a while, but hasn't made a move.

He must have other plans.

Fan Hu. Have Ying Zai gather the troops, and move into town in waves,

but don't alert the enemy before we strike.

Yes.

So Jiu knows everything and keeps it from me, right?

Master wants to be lenient and understanding with you.

But, Madam, if you feel unsettled,

or remember something,

perhaps you should speak to Master yourself.

Honey, you're back.

Here. Have a seat.

You're very attentive today, my dear.

Isn't this how I always am?

It's true I'm not home often, so I'm not used to it.

Honey, guess what I bought for you.

- A Go board. - You guessed right.

Here. Take a look.

Why did you want to get me a gift?

I saw this Go board at the market and couldn't help imagining you

arranging the pieces with your long fingers.

I thought it was perfect for you. This Go board should be yours.

You're so thoughtful, my dear. I love it.

Now that you have a new board, let's play a game

and see how the board and pieces feel.

Do you play Go?

I wasn't very good at it before we got married,

but I think I've improved since then. I'm not sure, though.

Then let's play a game.

Guessing the first move.

You go first.

Did you see anything interesting when you went out today?

I just listened to some opera.

What's it about?

Just the usual tales of lovesick men and women.

Without you be with me, I got a bit bored and came back early.

I'm sorry I haven't been around much.

But meeting your Go friends in Qingzhou is a rare opportunity.

We'll have plenty of time to go out, and have fun together.

Playing Go like this is pretty great.

Her Go style is so similar to Ziyu's.a

I lost.

Honey, you won, but why do you look unhappy?

Did I not play well and spoil your fun?

No, you played very well.

Dear. Who taught you?

Since you didn't learn before you got married,

you must have had a renowned teacher.

Maybe I learned by reading your manual, or just picked it up by watching you play.

Then, my dear, you're talented.

You play Go so well just from reading,

without actually playing or practising.

Or maybe I did learn it before we got married.

I just don't remember.

Do you really not remember?

Let me remind you.

Your Go style

- Why don't you think it over... - Stop testing me like this.

I'll just tell you.

Good.

Finally, you're saying something.

Although I don't remember everything clearly, since Nanny Li mentioned it,

I'm afraid I learned Go from Ziyu.

But I truly don't remember anything else.

I don't know why I met him in Qingzhou.

Honey, it's clear you don't believe me.

If you don't want me anymore, just give me a divorce letter.

I'll never trouble you again.

But please don't make it painful for both of us.

W-Why are you saying that?

Goddess of Mercy, Buddha, I didn't lie on purpose.

I will vow to chant sutras every day to avoid being sent

to the Hell of Tongue Ripping after I die.

Please.

Nanny Li, what are you mumbling about?

Leave me alone. Fangxie.

Let me ask you something. Did Madam act strangely today?

No.

She just kept talking about Master's preferences on the way back,

and gave him the jade Go board to cheer him up.

The jade Go board?

What a disaster.

What a disaster.

That's how it is.

But I truly don't remember any other details. I have no defense.

Honey, if I've really done something wrong, then I deserve you to divorce me.

But I hope we can be honest with each other.

Don't avoid me so much that you can't come home.

Even if...

Even if we end up parting ways, we should still live with clarity and dignity.

I understand.

Give me a straight answer today.

- Actually... - I accept it.

Ziyu pursued you several times,

but you rejected him each time, and didn't do anything improper.

Nanny Li only knew part of the story

and misunderstand the situation.

Honey, are you saying this just to appease me?

Of course not.

If it were true, would I have put up with you this long?

That's true.

But... But why were you

so distant with me back then?

You weren't fully recovered back then.

How could I take advantage of you in that state?

Master, Madam, dinner is ready.

Bring it in.
