Fort Point was constructed
during the years 1853 to 1861

to prevent entrance
of a hostile fleet

into the Bay of San Francisco,
though none ever attempted.

The fort was designed to house
600 soldiers and 126 canons.

Now that's a lot of firepower
even by today's standards.

As you can see, the fort was
