(Luo Residence)

Miss Xue'er.

How is it?

This is the wine based on the secret recipe.

Please have a taste.

Have the brewers tasted it yet?

They have, and they said the flavor was fine.

It's ready for production.

Good.

Have them work overnight

and produce as much as possible.

This time, I must crush Shen Danqing.

Yes.

(Ganlu Brewery) Come on, please come inside.

We have everything. Come on.

(New Product Rose Drink, Very Mellow)

Please, come in.

New product?

Miss.

Are they the same 'rose'?

Mr. Lin, go buy a jar to try it.

I want to see

what tricks they are playing.

Yes.

It smells quite similar to our Rose Liquor.

Isn't this just our Rose Liquor?

How did they know how to brew it?

So the trouble they caused in our shop a few days ago

had an ulterior motive related to the wine.

Miss, what should we do now?

Young Master has gone to escort the cargo.

Should we call him back now?

No.

The cargo is for a longtime client.

My brother values it highly. We must not disturb him.

Then we must come up with a countermeasure.

A halo around the moon brings wind, and moistened earth brings rain.

Now the bedrock is moist.

It seems

a heavy rain is imminent.

(Rose Drink)

Miss, there's been no order in days.

Should we also lower our prices?

We'll sell as much as we can.

Otherwise, we won't even be able to make it through the month.

If we price ours lower than Ganlu Brewery,

the more we sell, the more we lose.

I've already sent a message to Zishan,

asking him to help contact a few

major clients from other counties on his way back.

Let's hope distant water can quench the immediate thirst.

Mmm.

Right, Miss.

The oilcloth used for storing wine is broken.

Should we buy another piece?

Yes, indeed.

The rainy season is coming soon.

Rose Liquor

is most susceptible to humidity and can easily spoil.

Umbrellas and raincoats are made of oilcloth.

Let's tear it off and make do with it.

Yes.

Thank you, General.

What brings you here?

Has the new wine been brewed?

Here they are.

Among them, Rose Liquor is the best seller.

Next to it, 'Dreamy Drunk'

is brewed with winter dream flowers.

It's sweet to the taste but very easy to get drunk on,

hence the name.

Dreamy Drunk?

Great wine!

General, you're not here to mooch off some wine today, are you?

What? Can't I?

Of course you can. It's just that the wine is strong.

If you keep drinking it,

you might really end up in a drunken stupor.

I consider you a close confidant.

So I want to enjoy a drink and a dreamy chat with you.

With the Festival,

we need two hundred catties of wine

to reward my guards.

I'll take the Rose Liquor you just mentioned.

General, you should know

that Ganlu Brewery has put out a product

that tastes exactly like Rose Liquor,

and it's 20 percent cheaper.

I've heard about it.

But I am more willing to trust your character and ability.

So, I came here.

If you come here to buy wine,

people will surely gossip,

saying that you've fallen for my charms so much

that you'd buy wine from Danqing Winery at a high price

rather than purchasing the cheap Rose Drink.

I always do what I believe is right.

I don't care how others see me.

However, if you care about those rumors,

that's a different matter.

Of course, I don't mind.

- I'm just worried about you... - Deal, then.

Rose Liquor.

Miss Shen, please help me load the carriage.

Thank you, General.

I appreciate your kindness.

I'll go prepare it now.

Okay.

(Danqing Winery)

General.

- Take care, sir. - Okay.

Tianhao, is everything loaded?

Yeah.

But when moving the wine just now,

I found a jar sealed with red cloth.

Seems to be on the house.

Miss Shen really doesn't let you suffer any loss.

They say the Rose Liquor has a sweet taste

and a floral fragrance.

You won't get drunk easily.

Today, I have the opportunity to taste it.

Are you alright?

Did you say it had a sweet taste?

But...

Could it be Miss Shen took the wrong one?

Chengfeng?

This is not Rose Liquor.

Only this one.

It must have been a special one.

This wine borrows your name.

I guess Miss Shen thinks that you

always scare people

and demand a lot,

so she named

this strong liquor after you.

Tianhao, say it again.

This wine borrows your name.

Surely Miss Shen thinks you

are as extraordinary as this strong liquor.

(So the extra wine)

(was brewed especially for me.)

General.

This wine is, after all, a token of Miss Shen's kindness.

Even if you find it unpleasant to drink,

- don't... - Chengfeng Wine.

Truly extraordinary indeed.

Are you okay, General?

Is this wine that strong?

Let me try it too.

This jar of wine is mine.

Choose any from the carriage.

Back to the mansion. Let's hurry.

General.

General!

Let's go.

These twenty jars of wine will be delivered to your residence.

Okay, make sure they arrive on time.

- Of course. - Okay.

Please settle the bill here.

How is it?

Miss Xue'er.

Look, the wine we've sold over the past few days

matches the monthly profit

of usual sales.

All thanks to this secret recipe,

our Rose Drink

has the same taste as Danqing Winery's Rose Liquor,

but the price is 20 percent lower.

So naturally, everyone comes to buy from us.

Many regular customers

worry that the price might go up,

so they buy more to stock up.

Has there been any movement at Danqing Winery these days?

We're watching them, as you instructed.

Not even one customer comes every day.

Although, General Xu did go and buy some wine.

However,

it's just a drop in the bucket.

It's Xu Chengfeng again.

Shen Danqing does know how to find help.

He can't stem the tide alone.

They're barely holding up.

They'd rather sell the brewing ingredients

than lower prices.

Shen Danqing is a smart person.

She knows that if she were to engage in a price war with me,

Danqing Winery would surely lose money.

Even if she had a joyful ride with a recipe from somewhere,

she couldn't master the wine business so quickly.

Pretending to be tough,

but she must be panicking inside.

You're wise, Miss Xue'er.

But we need to stay on point.

Shen Danqing is crafty.

We have to personally see that she's out of options.

Come on, let's take a look.

Okay.

I have already calculated it.

If Zishan can seal the deal with the neighboring county,

we can sell off half of our inventory

and pay off the debts for the ingredients.

But if the ingredients and yeast are not used for brewing soon,

they will expire.

Miss, what should we do then?

Why not sell the yeast and ingredients to me?

Our wine is in short supply.

I was worried about the yeast and ingredients.

What are you doing here?

Miss Shen, how do you have accounts to settle?

I see.

You're calculating the losses, right?

It's broad daylight and not a soul is in sight. Such desolation.

It's truly terrible.

Miss Shen, please don't be angry.

I'm here today to help you.

Stop shedding crocodile tears.

You stole our young lady's brewing recipe.

And now you have the audacity to come here and spout nonsense.

The traitor of the Luo family.

Don't talk nonsense without evidence.

Or I'll send you to the authorities.

Miss Shen.

As I just said,

I truly came here with the utmost sincerity to help you today.

If you agree,

I'll put aside past grudges and show you a clear path.

Ganlu Brewery can buy out Danqing Winery.

I will hire you to be the wine saleswoman in my store.

How about it?

Okay.

Miss Xue'er!

You... What?

How dare you?

You really can't afford to lose.

You have no decency.

Decency?

You tried to kill me with poisonous spiders in the yamen prison.

Have you forgotten that?

And you talk to me about decency?

Haven't you played your part enough?

Life is like a play, and a play is like life.

When it comes to acting, it seems I'm no match for you, Miss Shen.

Weren't you poisoned and near death in prison?

But in the blink of an eye, you blackmailed a jailer

and got General Xu to bail you out.

At the ceremony,

didn't you also put on a big act and steal my spring water?

Save it.

Stop pretending

as if you're a paragon of virtue and openness.

Fine.

Since you are unwilling to do business with Ganlu Brewery,

wait to be broke then.

Do you want to be slapped again?

Get out of here!

Shen Danqing.

Even with General Xu's support,

it's no help at all.

You can't beat me.

You'll end up on the streets as a wine-selling woman.

Shen Danqing.

You dare to hit me?

It seems you're really out of options.

You can't even keep your cool.

I will make you

pay for this slap.

Laifu.

Go talk to Chairman Xia and have him

inform the liquor merchants in Liao City.

No one can buy Shen Danqing's yeast or ingredients.

I want to make her lose all her invested money!

Yes.

(I've told you many times that I'm already well.)

I don't need it.

As Miss Xue'er said,

the general is on to Madam's case.

If you go back now,

I'm afraid you might be thrown into prison.

It's very dangerous.

You've fooled me with that several times.

Tomorrow is my mother's birthday.

I must go back.

I won't listen to you this time.

Prepare a horse for me.

Miss, you should just stay put.

Watch yourself.

It's Miss Xue'er's instruction

that you stay here and recuperate.

If you behave,

everything will be just fine.

But if you run around recklessly

and something happens,

it will have nothing to do with us.

What? What are you saying?

You...

Open the door!

Open the door!

Luo Xue'er.

So you're locking me up here

using the illness as an excuse.

Open the door.

Luo Xue'er!

Open the door!

Danqing, I'm back.

Miss Shen.

Miss Shen.

Go and rest.

Yes.

Zishan, how was the trip?

It was fine.

Then,

how about the customers I asked you to look for?

Councilor Meng is an old patron of our Shen Escort Agency.

He trusts us a lot.

He agreed without hesitation.

Such good news

should be shared with others.

Miss Xue'er. Miss Xue'er.

Something terrible has happened!

What's the panic?

Danqing Winery has taken a large order.

What?

Councilor Meng's grandparent is celebrating their birthday.

To show his filial piety, Councilor Meng

is hosting a banquet.

And he's using Danqing Winery's Rose Liquor as the birthday wine.

Currently, Danqing Winery is buying a large amount of yeast and ingredients.

In that case,

with this order, Shen Danqing

will have a break.

It's not just that.

If this deal is sealed,

the wine used in the homes of those who deal with Councilor Meng

will all be from Danqing Winery.

The Rose Liquor will sell very well.

No, we can't give her a chance to turn things around.

Go.

Take the money we've earned these days

and make sure

to buy up all the raw materials for brewing Rose Drink

in Liao City and the neighboring villages.

Even at a high price,

we must not leave her even a tiny bit.

Invest everything?

Fortune favors the bold.

If we don't crush her,

how can we survive?

Listen.

Leave the matter of the ingredients to someone else.

You take the Rose Drink

and go to see Councilor Meng.

Okay.

Tell him

that Shen Danqing lacks the ability to deliver,

and Ganlu Brewery is the best among Liao City's liquor stores.

The Rose Drink I brew is better than Rose Liquor,

with a 20 percent lower price.

To show sincerity,

Ganlu Brewery will cover the deposit

he gave to Danqing Winery.

Yes.

Such a good opportunity.

You want me to give it to you?

You wish.

Miss, Luo Xue'er has snatched Councilor Meng's order.

She's determined to compete with us to the end.

Even if we want to fight her, we don't have the ingredients.

Now we're really in trouble.

Shuixian.

I need to be alone. You can go back now.

Miss.

Go back.

Yes.

Sir, Ganlu Brewery's new product, Rose Drink.

Come on in.

(It's raining.)

I forgot to bring an umbrella.

I've been preparing it for you.

Ever since the rainy season, I always carry an umbrella.

Just for this day.

Tianhao, give me the umbrella.

General, don't be so moved.

I can hold it up.

You've worked so hard. Let me take it.

Come on.

Mmm.

Thank you, General.

I am truly flattered.

I'll go to Danqing Winery.

You can go home now.

I'm not flattered.

I'm flattened.

(All the raincoats and umbrellas were used as waterproof cloth.)

(What should I do now?)

General Xu, what brings you here?

The last time I came, I noticed

Shuixian had removed the oilcloth from the umbrellas,

so I knew you wouldn't have an umbrella.

So being helpful, I came to take you home.

Young Master, please have some tea.

It's raining outside.

Has Danqing returned?

She said she wanted to be alone

and might come back later.

She told me to go home first.

Miss Shen, I have received the wine you gave me.

Specially named after me

and carefully brewed.

I'm grateful.

This 'Chengfeng' is not just your name.

Just like the Qizi pastries you gave me,

wishing me luck,

Chengfeng Wine's taste is strong,

hoping that the person who drinks it

can stay brave and passionate.

No matter what storms they face,

they shall rise above them.

Well said.

This 'Chengfeng' is not just my name.

Now I am really curious.

To you,

what am I really like?

You're a fierce

and unapproachable general.

But it was my first impression.

After getting to know you, I found you to be brave and resourceful,

warm and straightforward.

This wine has a strong taste at first,

but after a moment, there is a sweet aftertaste.

It's somewhat similar to how you just described me.

If that's the case, the wine should be even stronger,

letting the first sip take your breath away.

Are you still mad at me for throwing you into the water?

I might remember this for the rest of my life.

If you do,

I shall apologize for a lifetime.

Be careful.

Thank you, General.

You're welcome.

Guess I need to double the effort

to remove my bad impression in your heart.

I'll look forward

to your performance to come.

General, compared to when we first met,

I've heard

that Luo Xue'er has bought up all the wine-making ingredients.

Let her do as she pleases.

Having a bowl of ginger soup cooked by my brother

on this rainy day,

I'm quite content.

It seems

I must have worried unnecessarily.

You've been quite close to General Xu lately, haven't you?

He's been helping a lot.

I heard about him buying wine to help out.

Ever since we had an open talk last time,

he has indeed been much warmer to us.

After getting to know him, I found that General Xu

appears to be unrestrained,

but he is very thoughtful

and takes care of people.

Chengfeng is indeed a rare gentleman.

He is a trustworthy

close friend.

A close friend.

Indeed.

You're tired. Rest early.

Drink up.

Have a cup of hot tea.

General.

Did Miss Shen put something in your wine,

like a love potion?

Whenever it comes to Miss Shen,

you become different. Why?

You talk a lot.

Did you take care of the tasks I assigned to you?

I've been observing

Lv Zhu and Prince Yi.

There's been nothing.

I've checked the notes passed on

by Lv Zhu for reporting.

They are just daily trivial matters.

Daily trivial matters are not damaging.

Just let her report them to Prince Yi.

We must allow her to report back some news.

Otherwise, Prince Yi might resort to other tactics

and catch us off guard.

That makes sense.

It's not good for you to keep pushing her away.

That's right.

In that case,

you should try to get along

with Miss Lv Zhu.

Why me?

Don't worry, I have already instructed Lv Zhu

to take good care of you.

General?

General, don't leave.

General Tianhao.

I'm coming in, okay?

General Tianhao.

General Tianhao.

General Tianhao.

General Tianhao.

General Tianhao.

General told me you were not sleeping.

General Tianhao, get up.

What are you doing?

General Tianhao, you're not pretending to sleep anymore?

Your forehead is a bit hot.

This is the ginger soup I made for you.

It can relieve the cold.

Take a sip.

Have a taste.

Why is it so spicy?

See, I knew you would find it spicy.

This is a throat-soothing candy I made

with honeysuckle, mint, and licorice.

If you caught a chill, your throat might feel uncomfortable.

Eat this.

(It couldn't be poisoned, could it?)

Rest assured, I would not poison you.

Here.

How is it? I didn't lie to you, did I?

Mm.

Quickly, drink the ginger soup.

Okay.

Drink up.

I have a few more here for you.

Thank you, Miss Lv Zhu.

Good boy.

Remember to rest well.

(It feels pretty good to be taken care of.)

Miss Lv Zhu.

Could you please have these clothes washed by noon?

Also, the flowers and plants in this courtyard

need to be watered every morning.

Why should I do your tasks?

You claim to be the general's personal maid.

Shouldn't you be scrambling to do

these bootlicking jobs?

I'm giving you a chance.

Forget about it.

She's always made a fool of herself by the general and Tianhao.

She has many schemes

yet all of them are useless.

She's just a joke.

You're so mean!

How dare you smash me? Watch it.

Stop.

How dare you bully others?

Miss Lv Zhu is simple-minded.

Stop your reckless fabrications.

We're sorry. We won't do it again.

Whoever dares to bully her again

will be kicked out of here.

Understood.

(Ganlu Brewery)

Miss Xue'er, the accounts have been settled.

This batch of Rose Drink has been sold out.

As you ordered,

I've used all the available money

to purchase ingredients and

use them in production.

This batch of wine

will be brewed in just a few days.

Good.

Keep an eye on Shen Danqing.

Don't give her any chance to catch her breath.

I want to leave her with no wine to brew and sell.

She won't last ten days

before quitting the wine business and shutting down for good.

You're wise indeed.

That newcomer, Shen Danqing,

can't compete with you.

She's overestimating herself.

Perhaps it's the buyers.

Why have they arrived so early?

Open the door. Don't keep the guests waiting.

Alright.

- Open up! - Open up!

- Easy. - Welcome...

We want refunds. You actually sold fake wine.

This wine spoiled just after a few days.

Refund!

We want refunds.

- Open up! - Open up!

Open the door.

Open the door.

Miss, what's going on there?

There are so many people at the gate of Ganlu Brewery.

Luo Xue'er has finally taken the fall.

All thanks to Miss Shen.

Luo Xue'er wanted to pull a scam

to conceal her real purpose,

then played another trick

to steal my recipe.

If I didn't play along,

her elaborate scheme would be a waste.

So I dismissed

all the people in the backyard,

so that person could do as he please.

This wine is bad. Refund us.

- Refund! - Refund!

This wine is bad. Have them refund it.

Refund. We want refunds.

Refund. We want refunds.

Danqing Winery seeks profit at the cost of lives. Refund!

(This person is deliberately inciting trouble. Something's wrong.)

Refund!

(Why does he look so familiar?)

Refund!

Go follow that bearded man.

Don't startle him.

See what he's up to.

- We want refunds. - Yes.

(That person sneaked into the storeroom)

and stole our Rose Liquor recipe.

Later, I found out

he was Laifu, the steward of the Luo Residence.

Why did you let him take away the recipe?

I see.

The recipe Laifu stole must be fake.

The recipe was real.

Luo Xue'er is cunning.

If she were given a fake recipe,

she wouldn't copy it.

But the wine's recipe is the foundation of a brewer.

To guard against any contingency,

I omitted the most important steps.

And the most important thing about Rose Liquor is the storage time.

To Luo Xue'er,

I'm an outsider to winemaking.

She surely can't imagine that I would retreat to advance

and lay another trap.

No wonder

every time they make wine, you will have the brewers

leave for two hours

and busy yourself alone in the brewery.

You must have been working on that crucial step.

Exactly.

Although this recipe can brew

a wine that tastes just like Rose Liquor,

it is hard to store.

Moreover, the current rainy season

further shortens the wine's shelf life.

I see it now.

However, Miss.

The brewers of the Luo family are no amateurs.

He will find out sooner or later.

Even if Luo Xue'er incurs losses, they won't be too substantial.

How did you figure she would increase production?

A fish swallows the hook for the bait.

This recipe made Luo Xue'er a fortune.

Money blinds.

If a person's greed is unsatisfied, and their intentions are evil,

they are sure to reap what they sow.

Plus, Luo Xue'er is too eager to see me fail,

so I put on an act with my brother,

pretending to make a comeback.

She will therefore disregard everything.

By the time she realizes something's wrong with the wine,

it will already be too late.

Miss, you are truly amazing.

You made her stock up a large amount of ingredients to brew wine,

and then you took advantage of the rainy season

to accelerate the spoilage of Rose Drink.

In this way,

she has no choice but to lose all.

However, Miss.

I've been so worried,

yet you didn't let on at all.

There can be no slip-ups with this matter.

So the fewer people knew, the better.

I acted as if Luo Xue'er had enraged me

to make her feel

that we had no way out.

All of the Luo family's scheming

was in your calculations.

And you countered her every move.

It is truly brilliant.

I am sincerely impressed.

Miss, your strategizing is ingenious.

There isn't a problem you can't solve.

It's a rare lively day today.

The lead in this farce

is the best actress.

How could we miss such a good play?

Open the door.

Open the door.

Hold it. Hold it.

Shen Danqing must have tampered with the recipe.

So she set me up afterward.

Miss Xue'er.

We spent all our available money on raw materials,

and they have been put into production.

- Oh no... - Don't panic.

Hold it. Hold it tightly.

Calm them down now.

- Open the door. - Open it!

Ladies and gentlemen, please calm down and move back.

Our owner will say something.

Please hear me out.

- Take it easy. - Everyone, please hear me out.

Please rest assured, everyone.

Ganlu Brewery has been in Liao City for long.

We will not betray everyone's trust.

I will definitely refund everyone.

Tell us when you will refund the money.

Yes, tell us when.

Refund!

Everyone, please be patient.

You can follow Laifu

to register the refund amount.

Give us three days.

In three days, I will surely have the money prepared

and wait for you in the main hall of Ganlu Brewery.

What if you run away by then?

Right, what if you run away?

The Luo family's properties,

our mansion and families are all here.

Where could we possibly run to?

Everyone, trust me.

We can afford the refunds.

It's just the shop's funding

has been invested in production,

and we're short in cash.

So, please give me a little time.

As I promised,

in three days, I'll be waiting here for everyone.

At that time, I will return the money to everyone without a penny missing.

Then everyone, please register first.

- Come to me. - Register first.

Come in.

We will give you the money.

- Don't worry. - Come on.

This way. Come on.

Refund?

Where will she get the money to refund the customers?

She bought a large amount

of grain to make liquor.

If I haven't miscalculated,

she should be out of money.

I think she's bluffing

and making time to run away.

We mustn't take this lightly.

Shuixian, do something for me.

Know-it-all sent someone to arrange a meeting here,

saying they had found key evidence.

I didn't expect such quick progress this time.

She was killed by a poison-coated hidden weapon.

The body is still warm,

which means the killer was just here.

This is Know-it-all's unique weapon. I've seen her use it.

It feels a bit dry to the touch on the surface.

It must be from her sweat when she clenched it

in her hand before she died.

It seems that the killer is highly skilled and acts very quickly.

Before Know-it-all did anything,

she had already been poisoned to death.

The person who killed Know-it-all

is most likely the perpetrator of the imperial cargo case.

What makes you say that?

This silver needle

is exactly the same as the one used in the attack on Danqing.

Moreover, I've studied it.

This type of poison-coated silver needle is custom-made

and requires a specially-made launcher.

And the subtle changes around the wound

match with those when Danqing

was attacked years ago.

So it seems Know-it-all had discovered something

that could reveal the identity of the murderer,

and that's why she got killed.

But the question is,

why was the murderer so well-informed

and why did they act so swiftly?

The only possibility is that the killer

is hiding in Liao City

and likely right among us.
