=Lady Revenger Returns From the Fire=

=Episode 9=

(Given the reactions of Madam Zhou, Prefect Bai,)

(and the others in the morgue,)

(they all seemed to be unaware.)

(But a corpse couldn't just disappear.)

(There was so little blood on the shroud.)

(Could it be)

(that Luo Jizhou is not dead?)

Shen Danqing, I really admire you.

Even at a time like this,

you can still remain calm.

I haven't killed anyone.

Why wouldn't I be calm?

Facing death and still stubbornly pretending.

I think you're the stubborn one.

Luo Shuangshuang,

you are the killer.

What?

You dare not admit it?

You...!

That's nonsense!

It was you who killed him.

Does it matter who killed him?

You can't do anything to us now.

You two are starting to put on

the act of sisterhood now?

Luo Shuangshuang,

you did something wrong. And you just hide

behind someone else and be useless.

Luo Xue'er helped you this time. And then what?

Do you think

she will help you again?

You!

Don't be fooled.

She's trying to drive a wedge between us.

I am very curious

why you have kept opposing

our family over and over again.

Then you truly wronged me.

I have never opposed your family.

I had always wanted to do business with your family.

But you never cooperated.

And I just happened to know your family's secrets,

which gave me leverage.

So I intended

to discuss cooperation with Master Jizhou.

All I wanted

was the money.

I'm not like you. You are so ruthless

that you even killed your own kin.

Cooperation?

You lowly wretch!

You were just trying to extort us again.

Shen Danqing,

no matter how true your words are,

you picked the wrong target.

I will not give you any chance to turn things around.

Look at you two.

One is scheming and malicious.

And the other is selfish and reckless.

Sooner or later, you'll be punished.

I advise you

to do more good deeds and accumulate virtue

so that you won't get your comeuppance.

Miss Shen,

no matter how eloquent and cunning

you are today,

it's all in vain.

Western Poisonous Spiders.

Whoever is bitten by one

will die within four hours.

Shen Danqing,

aren't you very capable?

Come out and hit me then.

I'd like to see

whether it's more painful

to be beaten or to be bitten by spiders.

Then, General,

please tell me all the details of the entire process

of the investigation

over the past three months.

I will have Zong Wei record everything by the side.

All the details?

All the details.

Okay.

If you have patience,

I will spare no detail

and tell you everything.

Tianhao,

go smash some walnuts

for me

to replenish my wits.

Okay.

Am I

going to die here today?

(You must not forget your hatred.)

(It's not the last moment yet.)

(There must still be a chance.)

(Right,)

(General Xu.)

(In Liao City, only his position)

(ranks above Prefect Bai.)

(I must find a way to send him a message.)

Help!

Help!

Is anybody there?

What's all this noise about?

Sir,

I've been poisoned.

I'm dying.

Could you...

Could you please do me a favor?

You are a death row inmate anyway.

You are dying?

You can die in your cell.

Don't expect me to help you.

Before I die,

there is something I want to tell

my friends and family.

Could you please

pass a message to them for me?

Rest assured.

I will repay you.

Then I'll be the good guy

and do you a favor.

I am struck with a severe poison right now

and will surely die within four hours.

You've also been poisoned, just like me.

If you do not wish to die,

go to General's Mansion and find General Xu.

And then go to the Shen family to fetch Mr. Miao.

If you fail to complete either task,

you might as well wait here with me to die.

I'll go right now.

You rise at Mao hour, eat at Chen hour,

relieve yourself at Si hour, and bathe at noon.

General Xu, your life

is really regimented.

You said you wanted all the details.

I cannot spare any details.

Over the past three months,

I have been constantly pondering this case.

If, by chance, I miss something,

you might misunderstand that I'm deliberately hiding it

and report against me.

It would be an injustice to me.

General Xu,

I know what you are trying to do.

Isn't it just to waste my time?

Listen to me.

I have plenty of time to 'waste'.

Someone!

Bring all of my luggage inside.

Today, I'll stay at this mansion.

Yes!

If you don't find

my mansion under austere conditions,

not befitting your noble status,

feel free to stay.

General.

What audacity!

How dared you murmur in front of me?

Xu Chengfeng,

do you still dare say you've hidden nothing?

Your Highness,

I have just gotten

some relevant information about the treasure map case.

Now I must go immediately to gather evidence.

I'm leaving.

Very well.

I will go with you.

But that person also said

that they would only come clean and hand over the evidence to me

if I went alone.

Do you take me for a fool?

Would you rather risk the crime of defying an imperial edict

than tell me the information?

Fine.

Since you're being uncooperative,

I can only have Zong Wei record everything truthfully

and send it to His Majesty

for him to read.

The imperial edict is clear,

mandating that we share all information.

You're forcing His Majesty

to charge you with the crime of defying an imperial edict.

When the time comes,

do not blame me.

After all these years,

you have not made much progress.

In your penchant for tattling,

you certainly are consistent.

It's not the quantity of tactics,

but their effectiveness that matters.

Xu Chengfeng.

I just proclaimed the imperial edict today,

and you're leaving in defiance of it.

Are you forcing me

to immediately report to His Majesty,

requesting to punish you for defying an imperial edict

and have you escorted back to the capital?

I've already delivered the message to General Xu.

But he seems to be occupied

in his mansion

and is held up by someone.

He didn't come out.

Then I went to look for Mr. Miao.

But the Shen Mansion

has been surrounded by people sent by Prefect Bai.

So,

are we...

Are we going to die?

Normally,

when I think of Xu Chengfeng's face,

I feel like he's my nemesis.

But unexpectedly, at this moment,

I am desperately hoping

that he will appear by my side.

Did you mean it?

Aren't you held up

by something?

It's a small matter, and it's resolved.

Today, I must go out.

If I can't bring back useful evidence,

I am willing to return to the capital with you

and accept my punishment before His Majesty.

♪I've stepped into a maze, stirring up all the chaos♪

A verbal vow means nothing.

You need to write it on paper.

(I'll bring back evidence, or I'm willing to be punished. Xu Chengfeng)

It would give Prince Yi something against us.

His Majesty will hold us accountable.

General, you are in great trouble now.

And it's all for Miss Shen.

If she loses her life

because of my absence,

I will never live in peace.

I don't want Miss Shen to become

the second Luo Ailian.

Tianhao,

later, in front of her,

don't mention a word.

Miss Shen,

the general brought me here in a rush.

I only brought these few antidotes.

Take one first.

It can suppress the poison for now.

For the final antidote,

I'll have to carefully prepare it after I return.

Don't forget

about the poisoned jailer.

Rest assured.

Let's go.

You can still care about someone else.

Why is it that every time I see you,

I'm always so unlucky?

I rushed over, thinking I could be the hero who saved

the beauty.

Who knew I would become your bane instead?

Then, thanks, my bane.

General,

I have another favor to ask of you.

Let's get out of here and then talk.

♪Destiny has set all the courses♪

Wait.

If you get me out now,

I'll be convicted, even if I'm innocent.

You want to leave with your innocence proven?

Exactly.

You trust me that much.

I can't drag you down.

I'm not afraid.

What are you afraid of?

If you need anything,

just say it.

I'll do it for you.

Please find

Luo Jizhou for me.

Finding him

will clear my name.

He's missing?

Alive or dead,

as long as he is found,

the truth will come out.

Okay.

(Luo Residence)

(What?)

Uncle Jizhou might be alive?

General Xu went to the prison to see Shen Danqing,

and he's looking for Uncle Jizhou?

Yes.

Prefect Bai said

General Xu might want to get involved in this matter.

He wants all of you to be prepared.

That wench once used fireworks

to impersonate Xu Chengfeng's signal flare.

I thought she heard it from gossip,

pretending to be close to General Xu.

But now it seems

they are indeed close.

This time,

she might really turn her fate around.

It's not over yet.

It's not certain who will be the winner.

Now that General Xu has stepped in,

it's hard for us to deal with Shen Danqing.

But if we can find

Uncle Jizhou before General Xu does,

at least we can ensure our own safety.

Take some capable servants

to the places he often visits to look for him.

No matter what,

you must find Jizhou and bring him back

before Xu Chengfeng does.

Yes.

General,

Luo Jizhou didn't go to the smugglers

who could help him leave by waterway.

It seems he has no intention to leave the city.

Then where could he go?

He's still injured. Even if he wanted to hide,

he would choose a relatively familiar place.

Could he still be at the Luo Residence?

I've thought of a place.

Let's go have a look.

Madam.

Have you found him?

We've searched everywhere

and found nothing at all.

Madam.

Madam.

We couldn't find him.

No matter what,

you must find him.

Keep searching.

Yes.

Go quickly.

Act now.

Go.

Hurry.

Go ahead and take a look.

Let's go.

What's going on?

Why are the Luos chasing you?

Those venomous women

deceived me!

Madam Zhou kept insisting

that Luo Shuangshuang was my daughter.

But it was a lie.

When I found out the truth,

they sought to harm me.

I was lucky and got away alive.

Dead!

Murder!

Someone's dead!

(When I was in a daze,)

(I overheard everything about how those three wicked women)

(twisted the truth)

(and framed Shen Danqing.)

(My lord,)

please stand up for me.

My lord!

Madam.

We will reward you

a lot.

Don't worry.

(I wanted to report everything to Prefect Bai.)

(But then I heard)

that Madam Zhou was planning to win over him.

I feared the two of them would collude to harm me,

so I held my breath and pretended to be dead.

(Later on,)

(I was carried into the morgue.)

(Worried about being killed by that vile woman,)

(I took the chance to escape when no one was around.)

(When I jumped)

(over yamen's surrounding wall,)

(I sprained my ankle.)

Since I couldn't run far

and feared another mishap,

I changed clothes with someone

and planned to flee to another mansion under the cover of night.

But unexpectedly,

they pursued me here.

If it weren't for you,

I couldn't imagine

what they would do to me.

From what you just said,

all these crimes

were committed by Luo Shuangshuang,

Ms. Zhou, and Luo Xue'er.

And they have nothing to do with Shen Danqing.

That's right.

General,

you must uphold justice for me.

Get up first.

Rest assured.

If what you say is true,

I'll see that justice is served for you.

Thank you, General.

Mother,

why is there still no news?

Send someone to ask again.

If there's news,

the servants will report it to us

immediately.

Madam.

You found him?

Mr. Tianhao from the General's Mansion

has surrounded our residence with guards.

They say that Madam and the two young ladies

must go to the yamen

to review the case of Shen Danqing.

You may leave.

Yes.

The general has sent guards over?

How could this happen?

General Xu

is actually going to stand up for Shen Danqing.

It seems we can't quiet it down anymore.

We must prepare for the worst.

The worst?

What does that mean?

I'm afraid Xu Chengfeng

has already found Luo Jizhou.

I fear the prospects are truly grim.

Mother,

is there really

no room for maneuvering left?

I don't want to go back to jail.

I don't want to be in that cell again.

That place

is dark and stinky.

And at night, it's crawling with bugs.

Don't think too much yet.

We'll act as circumstances dictate.

I will definitely protect you.

Remember,

just insist that you haven't killed your uncle.

I'll take care

of the rest.

There will certainly be a way.

Okay.

(How are you?)

Do you feel uncomfortable?

I'm fine now.

Don't you trust Mr. Miao's medical skills?

I've already taken the antidote.

(Prison) After resting for a night,

the poison should have been fully lifted.

But it damaged your body after all.

So it's better to be careful.

Mr. Miao told me about what happened.

I didn't expect

that General Xu would help us.

He investigated me

because he thought I was a female bandit.

He was fulfilling his duty.

Now he has saved me

and is willing to hold a retrial.

It's due to his righteousness.

He is a person worthy of trust.

It's my fault.

I didn't expect Luo Jizhou

to have someone wear his clothes.

By the time I realized it, it was already too late.

Zishan,

don't blame yourself.

How would you know Luo Xue'er

would act so viciously?

But rest assured.

Soon,

we will be able to see those people

attacking each other,

bringing about their own doom.

(Liao City Yamen)

General Xu.

Prefect Bai,

last night, I obtained

a very important piece of evidence.

Now, all the parties involved

in this case are present.

I'll hand the evidence over to you

and let you conduct a retrial.

I hope this time

you can judge the case fairly.

Okay.

Bring him in.

You...

Weren't you dead?

Thanks to General Xu,

I am alive.

Madam Zhou,

how come you show no hint of joy seeing me here?

Aren't you happy

that I survived?

Happy?

I wish you were torn into pieces.

I admit

to the attempted murder of Luo Jizhou.

Ms. Zhou,

do you realize that you just admitted a crime?

I can

put you in prison for that.

I confess.

But at the same time,

I want to accuse Luo Jizhou

of raping me.

You!

(They've started to attack each other, as expected.)

What raping?

It was you who seduced me first.

You...!

I seduced you?

Was it me who drunkenly ran to your room?

Was it me who held you down so tightly

that you couldn't get away?

Was it me who repeatedly said I wanted to compensate you?

Luo Jizhou, you don't dare admit what you did.

You're not a real man.

To protect the reputation of the Luo family and myself,

I could only suffer in silence.

For all these years,

I've made my boundaries clear with him.

Yet after the death of my husband,

he intended to have me once again.

And he said

he would

drive my daughter and me out if I didn't comply.

I had no choice but to act first

for self-protection.

Nonsense!

My lord.

Nonsense?

She...

I was only 19 when I married into the Luo family.

And even though I was just a concubine,

I hoped to be a good wife and mother

and live a peaceful life.

But all this

has been ruined by you, you scoundrel!

You've destroyed the first half of my life,

and now you want to destroy the rest of it!

Luo Jizhou,

give me back the life that I deserve!

Mother!

Luo Jizhou,

you survived at Zuiyun Tower.

But today, I'll make sure you go down with me.

What are you doing?

Luo Jizhou,

I will kill you!

I will kill you, Luo Jizhou!

Luo Jizhou,

I will kill you!

(That's bad.)

(She has made up her mind)

(to take the blame for her daughters)

(at the cost of killing someone.)

Quickly take him away for treatment.

How dare you!

You intended to commit murder in court!

I am the one who hit Luo Jizhou.

I am also the one who framed Shen Danqing.

Although I was forced,

I admit to it all.

General Xu,

Prefect Bai,

if you must arrest someone, arrest me.

Mother!

What are you...

Everything was done by me alone.

It has nothing to do with them.

Mother!

I'll take responsibility for my own actions.

My whole life

has been thoroughly wretched.

If you have pity on me,

grant me a quick end.

Just kill me.

Ms. Zhou,

Luo Jizhou had only suffered minor injuries.

Even if he accused you, it wouldn't warrant your death.

However, just now, in court,

you committed murder in front of everyone.

According to the laws of Dafeng,

you will be executed.

Being able to kill Luo Jizhou,

I'd accept even the death penalty.

Today, I merely did something

that I've always wanted to do deep down.

I only feel relieved,

not guilty.

Shuangshuang.

Xue'er.

In my entire life,

I have no other hopes

except wishing you to live well.

It's really interesting.

Having committed murder,

yet here you are playing the victim,

complaining about your grievances.

Ms. Zhou,

how did you end up like this

after all these years?

That's because I have bad luck.

Bad luck?

I think it's because you have a malicious heart.

You're unworthy of love and care.

Do you think

it will be all over if you take the blame

for the real culprit?

Well, the truth is,

karma goes full circle.

Neither of

your good daughters

will end well.

I've committed a crime.

But my daughters are innocent.

I won't tolerate your groundless slander and curse on them.

General Xu

and Prefect Bai,

Luo Jizhou has suffered a severe head injury

and is now unconscious.

The physician said that even if he awakens,

his brain may not recover.

Well...

Ms. Zhou attempted to murder her kin.

According to the laws of Dafeng, she is sentenced to death.

She will be executed once the case is reviewed in the autumn.

Since the real culprit has surrendered,

Shen Danqing, Luo Shuangshuang, and Luo Xue'er

have nothing to do

with the murder of Luo Jizhou.

They are free to go.

Take Zhou away.

Yes.

Yes.

No!

Don't!

Mother!

Mother!

Mother!

Mother!

Prefect Bai.

Yes?

Prefect Bai,

you've neglected your duty.

You lost the most important corpse

and hastily concluded the case.

Are you aware

that Shen Danqing was nearly poisoned to death in the cell?

If it weren't for my timely intervention,

you'd have implicated another life.

Do you acknowledge it?

I'm guilty.

I'll apologize to Miss Shen.

You've acknowledged it.

So I'll not punish you severely.

What punishment

should you take?

Well.

A fine of one year's salary?

Plus twenty hefty floggings

as a warning to others.

Thank you, General.

(Liao City Yamen)

Although we didn't bring them all down,

at least Zhou, who set the fire back then,

and her accomplice Luo Jizhou

have received their due punishment.

They are utterly evil.

Even Heaven cannot tolerate

the crimes they committed.

Let alone me.

Now,

only Luo Xue'er remains.

She's cunning at heart.

Her ambition and desire won't stop here.

I'll see to it that she watches

everything she's ever gained

vanish before her very eyes,

helplessly.

Rest assured.

No matter what you do,

I will support you.

Mmm.

Let's go.

Little trinkets!

Come take a look!

(Zuiyun Tower) This way.

Okay.

Come and have a look!

You said you wanted me to meet someone.

So it's him.

What's going on here?

I only know Miss Shen

said she wanted to thank me for saving her.

I thought today would be a romantic occasion

with a pretty lady.

I didn't know you'd bring him along.

Let's find out

what she is up to.

Perhaps we should sit down and talk.

Sure.

Then I'll be blunt with you.

General Xu, you gave me a hard time.

You even threw me into the water.

On the surface,

you treated me as a female bandit who robbed the grain.

How could a mere female bandit

bring forth a high-ranking general in charge of defense?

I think there must be

a bigger conspiracy behind this.

And it might be related

to the purpose of your visit to Liao City.

You know the purpose

of my visit to Liao City?

On the day we caught the real female bandit together...

Tianhao,

go check out the trap over there.

Okay.

I will go with you.

No need.

(I wanted to go and check with you.)

Be careful.

(But you told me to stay put.)

Rest here for now. I'll go and have a look.

(Although I had a foot injury,)

(I was not immobilized.)

(You were hiding something from me.)

Yet in that mere lair of a few bandits,

apart from some stolen treasures,

what else was there that you needed to hide from me?

By linking all those together,

I have a bold idea.

Your investigation may be related

to the imperial cargo that the Shen family lost earlier.

I didn't expect

you to be so good at reading minds.

Then why don't you tell me

what I am thinking right now?

I'm not good at reading minds.

I merely linked minor details together

and came up with a conclusion.

As for what you're thinking right now...

Well, your investigation must have encountered difficulties.

Otherwise,

you would have found out the truth

and left Liao City already.

Zishan,

how did I not notice before

that your sister is so clever

and deft?

She is my sister, after all.

Of course, she's extraordinary.

Zishan,

I called you over today

because I hope that you two can make things clear.

General Xu wants to find out

the truth behind the theft of our cargo.

And you

have always wanted to find out who poisoned me.

On second thought,

the timing of my poisoning is very coincidental.

Someone must have poisoned me on purpose

to lure you away

so as to steal the cargo.

Therefore,

I believe your objectives are aligned.

That's true.

Your poisoning is by no means accidental.

Zishan,

I think we should be honest with each other

and cooperate.

About this,

I never thought about asking others for help.

But you are not just anyone.

We trained together for three years.

I am willing to trust you.

That's great.

If you two collaborate,

the truth will certainly come to light.

But since this case involves my family,

there can be no mistakes.

I've recorded everything that happened

at that time and the clues I've found afterwards

in my diary.

I'll give it to you later.

I hope it will aid in your investigation.

Zishan,

rest assured.

I will do my utmost

to not let you

and your sister down.

Come on.

Well, Xu Chengfeng.

You're finally back.

I didn't expect you to wait for me till now.

I feel terribly sorry.

You've neglected your duties

and defied the imperial edict.

Before you left, you said

if you brought back no evidence,

you'd return to the capital

with me to be questioned and punished by His Majesty.

So this is what you were talking about.

However, this time,

I indeed made some gains.

I even obtained some insider clues.

I'm afraid your accusation of me

neglecting my duties was wrong.

What clues did you get?

Show me.

Tianhao,

deliver this to the minister directly

to report to His Majesty.

Okay.

You are not deceiving me

by claiming a blank notebook as evidence, right?

I don't have the audacity to do so.

Even if I can fool you now,

I won't be able to explain it to His Majesty and the minister later.

Through expedited delivery,

within a day and a night,

the diary will be delivered to the minister and His Majesty.

Whether the evidence they receive is real or fake

will be revealed to you,

as you have eyes everywhere.

Alright then.

Well done, General Xu.

To reward you,

I have a gift.

You flatter me.

A gift from you

is more than I can take.

But you have obtained exclusive clues.

This is a great merit.

I simply cannot bear to see you overworked.

The gift I am giving you

is to alleviate your worries.

Come in.

I'm Lv Zhu.

Greetings, General Xu.

She is Lv Zhu, the personal maid I've prepared

for you.

Your Highness,

I have lived in the military camp for a long time

and am used to the rough life.

With Tianhao taking care of me,

that is enough.

You don't want her?

No.

Since you don't like Lv Zhu...

Guards!

Take Lv Zhu out and execute her.

Yes!

Stop!

Why are you doing this?

She is a gift for you.

But obviously, you don't like her.

A gift that has been rejected

has no value anymore.

General!

Fine.

It's a life, after all.

I will keep her.

Very well, then.

Lv Zhu,

take good care of General Xu.

You will live here from now on.

Do not wander around the mansion at will.

What are you doing?

Don't touch me.

This place is dark, secluded, and dirty.

I am a bit scared.

Scared of what?

With General Xu around, this mansion

is the safest place in Liao City.

Then

what's your name?

Just call me Tianhao.

General Tianhao.

Well,

you look so handsome.

You must have a very kind heart.

Could you do me a favor

and arrange for me a room with a livelier ambiance?

Like I said, it's inappropriate...

My answer is no.

No?

There aren't many vacant rooms here.

Be thankful that you have a room.

Don't be picky.

Then where do you live?

I am the general's personal guard.

Of course, I live to the left of his bedroom.

As the general's personal guard,

you live to the left of his bedroom.

Then, as his personal maid,

I should share a room with him.

(So this is what she's up to.)

You have a point.

But

the general sleepwalks and practices swordsmanship

at night.

You are too slow.

You know no martial arts.

With one strike from him,

you will be dead.

General Tianhao,

you scared me!

You are so weird.

Let go of me.

Tianhao!

Let go!

Don't go.

Let go!

It's inappropriate.

Get some rest.

And behave.

Tianhao,

don't leave me alone.

Such a blockhead.

Stone heart.

I'll let you off today.

Let's wait and see.

That woman is real trouble.

But she called me General Tianhao.

General?

No one has ever called me that before.

General Tianhao.

So cool.

General.

What are you grinning about?

I've already arranged for Lv Zhu to stay

in the most remote room.

That's not necessary.

Just have her serve close by tomorrow.

She is the secret agent

Prince Yi's planted by your side.

Secret agent?

Isn't she an overt agent?

Then why will you allow her to serve close by?

I think

we should take the chance

to find a fault

and drive her away.

Silly you.

If we handle Lv Zhu carelessly,

we will fall for Prince Yi's trick.

And then he could make a big fuss out of it.

Even if we drive Lv Zhu away today,

he could send another tomorrow.

So, what should we do?

We do nothing.

Prince Yi can act as he likes.

Follow me to the study.
