=Lady Revenger Returns From the Fire=

=Episode 8=

(Luo Residence)

The fortune-teller's words

have aroused Master Jizhou's suspicions.

Mother, calm down.

You are meticulous and astute.

(Master instructed you)

to prepare a clean set of tea utensils.

Just use plain water, not tea.

Do it carefully.

Don't make a mistake.

I'll take care of it. You do your things.

(Alum, Star Anise, Salt)

(To think of adding alum to the water)

(to help the blood)

(of Jizhou and Shuangshuang merge.)

Just a petty trick to muddle through.

But, after that,

I guess Uncle will no longer

have any doubts about it.

Mmm.

One more thing.

Since Uncle will no longer doubt Shuangshuang's origins,

there's no point in keeping Ms. Li.

How should she be dealt with?

You mean...

Miss.

Early this morning, I inquired

of the servants I got along with in the Luo's.

But they told me nothing had happened.

Nothing happened?

But Luo Jizhou

doesn't seem like someone who can keep his cool.

He's bound to do something.

He would surely take Luo Shuangshuang to verify it.

And the most direct way is through a paternity test using blood.

If he finds out Luo Shuangshuang is not his biological daughter,

he'd turn their mansion upside down.

But nothing has happened?

Could it be that someone else in the mansion has interfered?

If the truth isn't verified,

Luo Jizhou

will only be more convinced

Luo Shuangshuang is his biological daughter.

We couldn't find the midwife.

And the fortune-teller failed too.

What should we do?

The midwife.

She is our last hope.

Once she is no longer of use,

the Luo family will get rid of her.

So we just need to follow their men closely.

Then we will be able to find

Ms. Li.

Enjoy.

General Xu, are you going to join me for the farewell meal?

You're overthinking it.

This is just a normal meal.

As a woman,

you've made your way to the leader of the black market,

known as Know-it-all.

Honestly, I admire you.

This is the cargo box from Shen Escort Agency.

The lock hole here has been corroded by the Dissolving Powder.

The item inside was stolen by someone with exceptional lightness skills

who's also a master of poison.

So I'd like to inquire

about who this person really is.

How dare you!

The general is asking you.

Tianhao.

You don't have to tell me

if you don't want to.

After the meal, Tianhao will escort you back.

I'm leaving.

Oh, right.

I sent the beggars to a charity organization

offering food and shelter.

Later, they can also attend a free school to study.

General Xu.

Thank you.

General Xu,

the first rule of the black market is

not to do business with the officials.

I must abide by it.

Okay.

I'll ask an unrelated question.

The girl I saved that day.

What did she come to you for?

She wanted me to find a midwife surnamed Li.

A midwife surnamed Li.

Go back to have your meal.

General,

why are you asking about Miss Shen again?

The esteemed young lady of Shen Escort Agency

seeks information from the black market.

She is

really full of surprises.

I'm going to conduct a thorough investigation.

He just sent her the wound-healing cream to make nice.

And he's planning to investigate Miss Shen again?

Wouldn't it be counterproductive?

So she's hidden in another mansion.

Act according to the plan.

Before the Luo family takes action,

we need to find Ms. Li.

Mmm.

What are you looking at?

Why is it you again?

I saw you having a conflict with the beggars at the black market.

I thought you got involved in some dangerous affair.

However,

you've come to eavesdrop outside Luo's mansion.

Don't you have

anything better to do?

I'm working on official business,

and I just happened to come by.

Hurry on with your thing.

I've got some to do too.

I don't have the time to chat with you.

Well,

what I'm gonna take care of

is you.

Miss.

The general is gonna take care of you.

Shuixian, you make it sound strange.

I'm here to save someone. There's no time to waste.

The Luos want to kill Ms. Li.

I'm afraid they might be making a move inside right now.

Murder cases happen to be my responsibility.

What are you doing?

Don't shout.

Let go of me.

How dare you!

General Xu is here. What are you doing?

Run!

I was freaked out.

Heavens.

Ms. Li.

- The Luos want you dead. - Lady.

If it weren't for us, you'd be dead by now.

I don't need to spell it out, do I?

I'm not very smart,

but I can tell who means well to me

and who wants to harm me.

Thank you for saving my life. Thank you.

Tianhao, take Ms. Li back.

Yes.

Okay.

Miss.

Thank you.

You're welcome.

Just taking a break.

Please.

(Zuiyun Tower) Take care.

Take care.

Your invitation

wouldn't be a setup, would it?

Master Jizhou,

please, have a seat.

Go ahead.

What's the matter?

Master Jizhou,

take it easy.

Just two people

want to see you.

They want to tell you something.

Come in.

Ms. Li?

Master Jizhou,

help me.

What do you mean by that?

Actually, Miss Shuangshuang was not a full-term baby.

She was a preterm baby born in the seventh month.

Madam instructed me to tell you

that Miss Shuangshuang was born at full term.

She also promised to repay my gambling debts for me.

So I believed her and deceived you.

But she went back on her word.

She even sent someone to the mansion I was in

to kill me!

She wants to kill you?

Master Jizhou, think about it.

It's not a big deal

that Miss Shuangshuang was born prematurely.

But why would Madam Zhou even want to kill someone

just to hide it from you?

I have served her for so many years.

She appears to be virtuous and good.

But in reality, she is more resolute and ruthless than anyone.

As long as it benefits her,

she does anything.

Impossible.

I did a paternity test.

The blood merged.

It merged.

But did you check the water

used for the test?

All the people in the mansion

enticed Ms. Li to deceive you.

Of course, it was easy for them

to swap the water used for the paternity test.

Impossible.

Impossible.

People

are always afraid to face the truth.

Especially those who are inherently timid.

Master Jizhou,

don't tell me you'd rather be a coward

even if they make a fool of you.

Actually, it is very simple to figure it out.

Just redo the test.

That's all I want to say.

It's up to you to decide.

Impossible.

This can't be.

How could this happen?

Impossible.

I told Luo Jizhou

all the truth.

His lifelong hope

is to have kids.

If he finds out that Luo Shuangshuang

is not his biological daughter,

he will not let her and her mother off.

And well,

those two women are not easy to deal with.

They have become accustomed to a life of luxury.

How could they give up

the power they already have?

When the time comes,

they will surely turn on each other.

And then,

it will be our time to act.

I know you're strategic.

But there's a great risk involved,

especially considering

you are once again openly opposing the Luo family,

which will inevitably arouse their vigilance.

You must be careful.

Mmm.

Zishan,

you should take care of yourself.

You look so pale.

Is something troubling you?

Nothing.

I just didn't sleep well.

(Luo Residence)

Miss Shuangshuang,

Master Jizhou wants you to go to the Zuiyun Tower.

He only asked me to go?

Yes.

The carriage is waiting outside.

Please go.

Be careful.

There are no more issues, I guess.

Madam, Miss Xue'er.

Who has gone out?

Master Jizhou sent someone over

to take Miss Shuangshuang to see him in the Zuiyun Tower.

Isn't he supposed

to be talking business with Shen Danqing?

Does he need Shuangshuang?

Ms. Li disappeared.

Uncle asked Shuangshuang to see him in the Zuiyun Tower.

Something's not right. Prepare a carriage right away.

We'll go to the Zuiyun Tower.

Alright.

Father.

Father.

Father.

Father.

Father.

Your hand is bleeding.

They say you're not my daughter.

They say you were born prematurely.

They say she didn't conceive in the first month of that year.

Yes.

On the 15th day of that month, I drank too much.

That was the night I was with your mother.

It was that very night.

How could it be that easy?

Father, what's wrong? You look scary.

Give me some of your blood.

I just need a little bit.

I don't know anything.

To do a paternity test.

Father.

No!

You're really not my daughter.

That wretch deceived me!

I've treated you all so well.

I've given everything to you.

I even killed my own niece

for you.

I don't know anything.

Father, I know nothing.

Come back!

Look at this!

You call me Father.

Liars.

You are all liars.

Am I a coward?

I am no coward.

I will make your mother pay.

Those who dare to play me

will all pay the price!

Shuangshuang.

What?

What?

What's wrong, Shuangshuang?

What happened to your hand?

Uncle used my blood to do a paternity test.

He told me I wasn't his biological daughter.

And he tried to stab me like a madman.

I was so scared.

I grabbed the incense burner

and hit him with it, then he just...

Mother, what's going on?

Why did he suddenly become like this?

Shen Danqing and Ms. Li

told him the fact

that you aren't his daughter.

Shuangshuang,

it's okay now.

Your sister and I will help you deal with it.

I'm not his daughter?

Didn't you say

I was his biological daughter?

Why is it not the case now?

I have my reason.

Your father died.

I had to find a new backer.

Ultimately, all I do is for you.

If you were determined to deceive him,

why didn't you tell me beforehand?

Do you realize he almost killed me just now?

Calm down. Just now when we went upstairs,

I saw Prefect Bai and his assistant

eating here.

Do you want to lead them all here?

Xue'er.

Do you have any ideas?

Sir,

the Maple Dew Tea you ordered is ready.

My goodness, someone's dead!

- What now? - Dead!

- What do we do? - Dead!

He saw it.

Calm down.

What if he tells Prefect Bai?

Take it easy.

Listen.

We need to coordinate

our stories in front of others later.

You look tired.

So I went to Mr. Miao

and got some calming herbs

to make this wine for you.

I hope it can help you sleep.

I forgot you had this skill.

Thank you.

But this wine only treats the symptoms, not the root cause.

I know what you're really worried about

is what Mr. Miao is investigating.

About your sister's poisoning.

How do you know?

When I went to get herbs just now,

I accidentally saw the postmortem report

(on Shen Danqing's poisoning.)

(And considering how you and Mr. Miao look,)

(Postmortem Report) (it's easy to guess)

what you are doing.

Zishan.

Do you still not trust me?

How could I not?

Don't keep anything from me anymore.

Family should share not only glory

but also hardship.

Zishan, believe me.

I'll stick with you

through thick

and thin.

Young Master, Miss, something's wrong.

Prefect Bai and his men have

surrounded us with the women of the Luo family.

Please come with me.

What brings you

and so many people here?

The Luo family claims

Shen Danqing murdered Luo Jizhou.

I've come to make an arrest.

Master Jizhou is dead?

Drop the act!

I went to the restaurant two hours ago

for Master Jizhou.

And as soon as I entered, I found him dead.

You asked him to be in the private room.

You killed him!

My lord, here.

What is going on?

My lord, please stand up for me.

Two hours ago,

Master Jizhou was invited

by Shen Danqing here.

She has always been at odds with our family.

My daughters and I were worried,

so we hurried over.

However, when we entered,

we saw Master Jizhou's body here.

Yes.

We were just about to report it when the waiter arrived,

and he did it on our behalf.

Shen Danqing was just here?

The room was booked by Miss Shen.

Even if she met with Master Jizhou,

it doesn't prove she was the killer.

My lord, you don't understand.

Shen Danqing is from an escort agency and is a savage.

She even used force in our mansion before,

let alone in here.

My poor uncle.

He must have said something

to anger that shrew,

which brought disaster upon himself.

My lord,

now there are only a few of us women in our family.

If you do not seek justice for us,

we will be left at the mercy of others.

If you stand up for us,

we will owe you a big favor.

Please stand up for us.

My lord.

My lord.

Madam.

We will reward you

a lot.

Don't worry.

Mother.

It is my duty to redress grievances for people.

I

will investigate thoroughly.

Yes.

My lord.

He seemed to be killed by a blow

to the head from a heavy object.

For more specific and detailed clues,

we need a coroner.

A heavy object?

Yes.

My lord, there used to be a golden candlestick here.

But now it's missing.

My lord.

It must have been taken away by the murderer.

Let's go to the Shen Mansion now to search.

We may catch the killer along with the weapon.

Yes.

Notify the constables and captors.

Send over two people to carry the corpse to the morgue.

The rest comes with me to the Shen Mansion to catch the killer.

- Yes. - Yes.

Shen Danqing,

you just have some conflicts

over business matters with my uncle.

I didn't expect you to be so venomous

that you even killed him.

I vehemently disagree.

Don't wrong her without evidence.

I didn't wrong her.

She was the last person to appear in that room.

What a joke.

It was you people who did not gain any advantage.

I did not suffer any loss.

Why would I kill him?

Let alone blatantly asking

Master Jizhou out to kill him.

Mr. Bai.

A murderer must repay with their life.

Please do justice for me.

My lord, please be sharp.

I did invite Master Jizhou

to Zuiyun Tower to discuss something.

But I did not kill him.

When I left,

he was still drinking there.

If we talk about someone suspicious,

nobody who entered

the room after I left

can claim innocence.

I'd like to follow you to the yamen.

But Ms. Zhou

and the two young ladies should go too.

Well...

Well,

Prefect Bai,

are you intending to shield some people?

Attendants.

Here.

Take the Shen siblings

along with the three Luos

to await trial.

Yes.

Zishan, don't worry.

I am innocent,

so I don't fear the court trial.

(Liao City Yamen)

Danqing,

I will go get Shuixian and Ms. Li to testify for you.

They can only prove

I had a talk with Master Jizhou.

That does not clear me of suspicion.

Moreover,

Prefect Bai is so biased towards Ms. Zhou.

Let's watch and wait.

Do you have any ideas?

Luo Shuangshuang is arrogant.

But today,

she seemed somewhat uneasy.

(I also noticed a dent)

(on her bracelet.)

As if it had knocked against something hard.

It knocked against something?

She would never wear jewelry with flaws.

It must have just happened,

so she hasn't changed it.

She might have just had a fight with someone.

A fight with someone.

Could it be

that she killed Master Jizhou?

So you had Prefect Bai

bring them along to the yamen

so that they wouldn't have time

to eliminate any traces.

Exactly.

If that's the case,

let's see what happens then

and make sure they have no room for excuses.

Shen Danqing, do you admit your crime?

No, I don't.

But I know

who the murderer is.

Who is it?

These three are falsely accusing us of what they did.

You're slandering us. Do you have any evidence?

My lord, I request an autopsy.

By then, we will surely find

the evidence to prove who the real culprit is.

Shen Danqing, quit stalling.

If there is evidence, present it now.

I'm not stalling.

An autopsy is the most just and efficient method.

Only those who are guilty

are afraid of it.

My lord,

do you think my words make sense?

Well...

Mr. Bai,

this is her trap.

Do not agree to her rude request.

Mr. Bai,

if an autopsy isn't done,

even if you force a conviction and close the case today,

our family has connections

in the capital city

and we won't just do nothing.

I'll report it

to the Emperor if I'm not satisfied.

Think about it, my lord.

Okay.

I grant you permission

to enter the morgue.

To be fair,

Madam Zhou and the young ladies

will go with you.

I will surely make the real culprit

confess willingly.

Thank you.

Yes, my lord.

How come there is not even a guard?

Open the door.

Yes.

As long as on the body of Luo Jizhou,

we find the wound matching the mark on her bracelet,

it'll be solid evidence

and they can't deny it.

Don't worry.

You went there just an hour

after Shen Danqing left.

The scene has been cleaned up.

And the coroner will find nothing.

Yes.

Even if there really is something,

Mr. Bai will pick our side.

Hurry up.

My lord.

Cut the crap and open the door.

(Morgue)

Please, my lord.

My lord.

Where is the body of Luo Jizhou?

It is right...

Where is the body?

How come the body is missing?

How can this be?

What's going on? Where's the body?

I have no idea.

My lord.

We were only charged with transporting the body here.

The rest is the coroner's job.

Well...

What do you mean?

I locked the door.

Stop arguing.

The body disappeared into thin air.

All of you were completely unaware.

And you're now passing the buck.

In full view of everyone,

how am I gonna face others?

Go find the body.

- Yes. - Yes.

Go search for the body.

How preposterous.

Mr. Bai,

with all due respect,

losing a body is no trivial matter.

Shen Danqing is cunning and good at sophistry.

If she spreads the word

and pins this on us,

you will be

charged with negligence.

I am well aware of the trouble.

That's why I've ordered the constables to search for the body.

My lord, a word of advice.

Why not deal with the person

who brings trouble instead of the trouble itself?

You mean...

You saw my uncle's body with your own eyes.

And you got our testimony.

Whether Shen Danqing admits guilt or not,

you have reason to convict her and send her to prison.

As long as Shen Danqing is executed,

naturally, no one will care about the body,

and the problem will be solved.

But what if Shen Zishan presents a petition to the Emperor?

As long as she is executed and all traces are erased soon,

even if an imperial inspector comes,

we can all serve as witnesses who saw the body.

Then you can just find an excuse to reply to the inspector.

That won't be difficult.

Mr. Bai,

the priority is to find the body.

I will have our armed escorts investigate it.

We are leaving

if there's nothing else.

Wait.

Shen Danqing,

I've fulfilled your request to take you here.

It's enough to show sincerity.

You are now a suspect

but can't provide evidence to prove your innocence.

Confess now...

What an accusation!

Mr. Bai, don't try to frame her.

My lord.

My lord.

This was dug out

in Shen's garden.

Please have a look.

My lord,

this is the candlestick

that was lost from the room.

Shen Danqing, now you can't deny it anymore.

You're the one who killed Master Jizhou.

Thank you.

Money talks.

Everyone, search thoroughly.

- Yes. - Yes.

- Yes. - Yes.

Boss, I found it.

Shen Danqing,

now that evidence was found in your house,

you can't deny it anymore.

Shen Danqing of Shen Escort Agency

used a candlestick

in a room of Zuiyun Tower

to kill Luo Jizhou due to a business dispute.

There are witnesses and physical evidence. Arrest her.

Who dares?

Shen Zishan, are you resisting arrest?

Do you want to be convicted too?

Not by a corrupt officer like you.

You!

Arrest them both.

Zishan, don't.

Finding the body of Luo Jizhou is the key.

I will go with you.

This has nothing to do with my family.

Do not harm the innocent.

Take her away.

Yes.

Danqing.

Let's go.

Find the body.

(General's Mansion)

(General.)

General.

You're still in the mood for tea and reading?

Take your time.

I followed your orders

and handed over the latest findings of the map

to the minister's messenger.

But the messenger said

Prince Yi impeached you

in the court during your absence,

saying you were incompetent.

Is that all?

We found the female bandit

and recovered the lost chest.

This counts as progress, doesn't it?

How can he say you're ineffective?

He's twisting the fact.

Detestable.

It's not anything new.

Although Prince Yi is crafty and insidious,

he's a good strategist.

Tianhao,

you must be extra cautious in the coming days.

Alright.

(General's Mansion) Prince Yi!

(Zong Wei, Prince Yi's adjutant) Your Highness, we've arrived.

Alright.

General, Prince Yi has arrived.

Greetings, Your Highness.

Greetings, Your Highness.

(Prince Yi of the Dafeng Dynasty)

General Xu,

we meet again.

May I ask what brings you here,

Your Highness?

It has been over three months

since you came here to investigate the case

of the lost cargo six months ago.

I recall you made a military pledge.

According to the law,

what punishment must those who fail

to fulfill a military pledge face?

(Morgue)

(Morgue)

(If Luo Jizhou was struck in the head, he would bleed incessantly.)

(But there are only a few specks of blood on this shroud.)

(Perhaps his injury)

(is not that severe.)

(Could it be he didn't die?)

(It seems Luo Jizhou is still alive.)

(Finding him would clear Danqing of suspicion.)

(He has a head injury.)

(He must go to a clinic nearby to get it treated.)

(Searching along this track)

(will offer me clues.)

Luo Jizhou!

I made the pledge to Minister Lin.

Whether I have finished it or not

should be judged by him.

I heard a few days ago,

you impeached me in court.

His Majesty neither agreed nor disagreed at that time.

It seems that he didn't want you to intervene in this case.

But you did not give up

and even took the trouble to come here to make things difficult for me.

You seem to be overly concerned

with my affairs, no?

I did it in return for you.

If it weren't for you always opposing me

and even meddling

in my mansion expansion,

why would I be so interested

in your affairs?

I'm not interested in your private matters.

But the expansion took the land

of my departed subordinate's wife.

I had no choice but to intervene.

You're too thoughtful

and preoccupied with too many concerns.

No wonder the progress of the investigation is so slow.

His Majesty is tolerant and has not blamed you.

But I must share His Majesty's worries.

I have sought a decree from His Majesty

to come to assist you.

Perhaps it can speed up the investigation.

Xu Chengfeng, please accept the decree.

It's been months since Xu Chengfeng was transferred to Liao City.

But the case is progressing slowly.

Due to its complexity,

Prince Yi will go there

to assist in the case.

I hope they'll find out the truth soon.

I accept.

Ever since you left the capital city,

I have been very concerned.

I have repeatedly inquired about you from His Majesty.

But I did not expect to see you so soon.

I am looking forward to this cooperation very much.

Thank you

for repeatedly expressing concern for me in the memorials to His Majesty

and even coming here

to lend me a hand.

I will naturally take good care of you.

As for you,

do not mind me being in the way.

Don't say that, Your Highness.

I will cooperate with you.

I certainly will not let you down.

Good.

It couldn't be better.

Since we have been ordered to cooperate,

can you please

show me all the clues and evidence

and let me check them?

Sure.
