[STAND BY ME]

[EPISODE 49]

I summoned all of you to deliver an announcement.

[IMPERIAL EDICT]

Is this the imperial edict written by the late emperor

during the Zhaolu Incident?

It was hidden in a painting after all these years.

Now, its contents will be shown.

This edict is real.

Your Majesty.

But there is also another matter.

It's for that reason I summoned you all here today.

I wish… to show it.

[13th Uncle, Prince Guang]

[5th Brother, Prince Yi]

What… What is going on? How is that possible?

The edict was written using a special ink,

which is why the writing didn't fade away when it got wet.

Only these four characters

faded away.

My uncle treated me with generosity,

but the late emperor and I used you.

Your Majesty.

Before the Zhaolu Incident, the late emperor was afraid that our plan wouldn't work,

so he secretly summoned me over, asking me to follow the same path as Gou Jian.

He told me to take Qiu Ziliang as my godfather

before ascending the throne.

Since he wanted to protect me, he had to find someone

to divert the attention and rage away from Qiu Ziliang.

That's why...

he chose Prince Guang.

I see. I was confused.

The late emperor never liked me.

Why would he choose me to take his position?

After the Zhaolu Incident failed,

Qiu Ziliang didn't execute my brother.

He imprisoned him.

He… spoke to me several times,

asking me to see this plan through.

And you had been leading a reclusive lifestyle,

so you weren't affected.

Did you spread the rumor?

Yes.

I…

didn't completely agree with his plan

nor did I want to have you take the attack for me.

So I spread the rumor

of you being advised by a wise man

to keep you away from royal affairs.

I took the chance to hide,

which made Qiu Ziliang spare my life.

We saved each other.

Indeed.

If I had some ulterior motive and used that chance to become emperor,

then afterward,

I would have been a fool.

No, Uncle.

It would have been hard to believe.

But you, Uncle…

You have passed this test.

That's why it's so important.

Today, I summoned you all

to witness

me…

making Prince Guang my crown prince.

Your Majesty!

Uncle, you deserve it.

Yes, Your Majesty. Thank you for your generosity, Your Majesty.

Long live the Emperor!

Your Majesty.

The new leaders of the Divine Army are all here and ready.

Li Zening was bewitched by the Taoyao bracelet given to her by the Deputy Chancellor and made a huge mistake.

Minister Li wrote a letter begging for mercy on her behalf.

Please read it.

I see. You may leave.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty. Han Ding…

Do you have anything to tell me?

Didn't he betray you?

The Deputy Chancellor tried to bribe him, so I asked him to play along.

So, Your Majesty wrote a retirement letter for my uncle and sent me away.

Was that also part of your plan?

I…

was afraid I would die suddenly like my late brother.

At that time, the last thing I wanted was to keep you by my side

to witness my humiliating state.

Nonsense! You can't say that about yourself.

The descendants of the Qi family

were either too young or weak.

I spent a long time thinking.

Only my uncle was capable of taking on this mission.

And he passed my test.

That's why I came up with this idea.

In fact, I've been developing this idea for a while.

I couldn't think too much into it or expect too much.

But today,

I finally had the chance.

You mean…

Yu'er,

we can finally be together.

I want to spend the rest of my life with you.

You have suffered so much for me.

I… will never forget that.

Now, we can finally be with each other

and have a life of our own.

What's the date today?

Your Majesty, today is the 15th. There's the Lantern Festival.

- Wonderful! - Wonderful!

Do it again!

Good!

Your Majesty, I need to take her somewhere.

Where are you taking me?

Why?

His Majesty summoned me today to thank me for my help.

He asked me what I wanted. So what do you want?

I want…

First. The Elixir of Youth to restore my beauty.

Second. I want to travel around the world without having to worry about money.

Third. I want a decent lover.

No. Not His Majesty.

I don't want him at all.

Third. I want a decent lover who has a strong body.

Look at His Majesty.

In a single year, he turned from a strong fighter to a weak man.

Only silly girls like you would choose him.

When I was little,

I admired the grandeur of the capital.

I've seen the hustle and bustle of the city.

But I've also seen

the battlefield.

Though it is a pity, I didn't get to witness the peaceful days of this place,

I was able to meet a wise emperor and his loyal chancellors.

Countless brave men fought and died

so that we can appreciate these beautiful lanterns.

I have no regrets.

Yu'er.

Thank you.

Yu'er.

I will head back home tomorrow.

Take care.

Take care.

Your Majesty, I bought some date cakes just now. They are delicious.

There is another stand selling osmanthus cake. Those are also tasty.

Eat more if you'd like. Buy more.

Although they are delicious, we can't buy too many.

We can come here again next time.

Also, Han Ding seems to be struggling behind.

I've trained him for so long, and I need his help today.

We will let him carry those bags.

Let me test the result of his training. Don't you like it?

Even if I do, I can't eat that much.

We can come back again next year.

♫ ...that lights up the dust ♫

♫ You have not yet felt the love ♫

Your Majesty, what's wrong?

♫ Yesterday's whispers are close ♫

♫ The lonely army cannot hide the light rhyme ♫

I'm thinking, I'm afraid…

♫ Why would it also show mercy to them? ♫

♫ Trivialities are difficult to end ♫

I can't attend…

the next Lantern Festival with you.

♫ ...is clearly just like my heart ♫

But you must promise me. Even if you come alone,

you need to be happy and try all the delicious food.

♫ I hold my hands to keep them warm during the winter ♫

♫ My thoughts about you make the spring breeze enchanting ♫

♫ Shooting the golden arrow towards the sunny sky ♫

♫ Enjoying my time being with you ♫

♫ Colors look hazy in the mirror ♫

Your Majesty, have you forgotten? I'm an expert at eating and having fun.

I promise, even if I come alone next time,

I will still share all the food with you, okay?

♫ The lonely army cannot hide the light rhyme ♫

♫ Why would fate torture people behind them? ♫

♫ Why would it also show mercy to them? ♫

♫ Trivialities are difficult to end ♫

♫ Love and hate can both be harmful ♫

♫ And the floating weed that ripples ♫

♫ is clearly just like my heart ♫

♫ To me, life and death ♫

♫ are like the clouds and smoke in the sky ♫

♫ There is no rush to blow away the wind ♫

♫ I'll burrow myself into your dreams first ♫

♫ This tiny piece of thought ♫

♫ although not heavy in the chaotic world ♫

♫ But our beliefs ♫

♫ lets us see things through to the end ♫

♫ The wind cuts a wisp of red ♫

♫ which also cuts back the wind ♫

♫ You have not yet felt the love ♫

♫ but it has been cast into my dream ♫

Your Majesty!

- Your Majesty! - Your Majesty! - Your Majesty!

- Your Majesty! - Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

- Your Majesty! - Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

- Your Majesty! - Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

How is he?

Just as I expected.

Using poison to counter poison will eventually wear him out.

Using poison to counter poison?

Where does the poison come from?

It is in all the prescriptions I wrote for His Majesty and all the pills he took.

How dare you!

Prince Guang, I only followed His Majesty's order.

Is there no prescription today?

Your Majesty, you can't take this anymore.

This medicine is strong and seems to be useful,

but your health may be compromised.

I understand. But if I don't take this

and only take the Pill of Freedom,

I will no longer be able to carry out my duties.

I'll be no different from being dead.

Am I right?

Your Majesty.

Using poison to counter poison might keep your mind clear, but it will harm your health.

You might only live for a few more months.

Enough.

Here is my order.

I command you to write me a prescription.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Also,

keep this information between you and me.

Aside from the medicinal soup,

His Majesty has taken 39 pills.

Though the poison is now in his blood and bones, he's still alive.

Why?

Why would you do that?

For the Xing Dynasty.

For a greater cause.

You need to be absolutely sure.

If His Majesty dies after taking this pill,

you will be guilty of regicide.

His Majesty will definitely wake up.

[HANYUAN HALL]

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

You're awake!

Yu'er.

Stop crying.

You look prettier when you smile.

Ever since you came to the palace,

you've smiled less and less.

I've lived my whole life

according to my teacher's expectations,

my brother's wishes,

and the country's development.

I'm about to die,

but I have no idea

if I've been a good emperor.

You have.

People are happy

and thriving these days.

Everyone admires the country's grandeur.

You've done a great job.

But I feel so tired.

I've been plotting…

I was scared to make a mistake.

If there is an afterlife,

I want to

live for myself.

I want to be an ordinary man

and spend my whole life with you.

You will.

That day will come.

We will be together again in the next life.

But Yu'er.

I might not survive.

I know...

the last thing you want is to be stuck in the palace.

So, I have asked Han Ding

to send you off.

I love traveling and hunting.

There's so much beautiful scenery

I haven't seen.

Promise me.

You must enjoy the rest of your life.

Go and see the world

and the beautiful sky

on my… behalf.

I promise.

I promise.

I promise.

I promise.

Uncle,

help me up.

Please take a seat.

I… am about to die.

The eunuchs are no longer a problem.

The whole country is waiting to rise again.

Prince Guang,

you are wise and a visionary.

You have been through a lot and are highly capable.

Therefore, I shall pass my throne on to you.

You must take the responsibility of an emperor

and care for your people.

Be a good emperor.

I…

will do as you command.

Uncle… rise.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

On March 23rd, Qi Yan passed away in Changming Hall with the dynastic title of Shizong.

He was buried in Changling.

Prince Guang Qi Chen ascended the throne and changed his dynastic title to Pingzhong.

Here comes His Majesty! Yu Niang, please take the order.

To God in Heaven and the spirit of the sword, my heart is like this sword.

We will repel invaders and combat evil.

This sword is like my heart.

We will protect the homeland and stay loyal to the emperor.
