[STAND BY ME]

[EPISODE 45]

Must you find Prince Guang first?

Don't you know it's dangerous?

All right, give me the map.

[MAP OF JIANGQI CAMP]

The dungeon is beneath the central square.

There are two entrances.

The one in the lobby will be inaccessible.

The other is in Yanzhi's room. I'll bring you.

Everyone, come with me.

The tea is perfectly steeped.

Your tea skills are truly unmatched.

If the former Chancellor Lord Wang could know how outstanding his granddaughter is,

he'd surely be proud.

- Come here. - Yes, Your Grace.

Call His Highness Guang here.

The former Camp Guardian and Chief Chancellor

should witness the birth of the new Golden Character corps.

Yes, Your Grace.

- Your Highness Guang. - Yu'er.

Yu'er. Yu Niang.

- Why are you… - Yu Niang asked me to rescue you. Let's go.

Hold your horses. I haven't finished the book yet.

Yu'er, we can't go.

Only with me here will Qiu Ziliang let his guard down.

And His Highness will remain safe.

Yu Niang, let's go. Yu Niang, let's go.

Please go.

Come on, Yu Niang.

Yu Niang. Yu Niang!

- Who's here? - Come.

Protect Yu'er.

I remember two years ago a handkerchief was cast in the same way.

At that time, Yanzhi led Yan Xiu

to form a six-figure array that blocked all competitors.

That's when I knew she had promise.

It's easy to have thousands of soldiers, but hard to find a good leader.

It's just a crowd of boorish fellows.

There are fewer and fewer people

with any cerebral inclination.

Your Grace! An assassin!

It's Cheng Ruoyu.

[JIANGQI CAMP] Come on!

You hurry to the hidden passage. Go.

Do it!

[JIANGQI CAMP]

Xiu, where are you?

Why aren't you with Ruoling?

If anything happens to her, I won't forgive you!

- Follow her! - Get her!

Luckily, I've told her all the secret mechanisms here.

Always so awkward and clumsy,

but brilliant at fighting.

Ruoling, hurry up to leave here.

Someone's here.

Never mind. You don't need to apologize to me.

Who could have predicted the pawns would show up.

Yanzhi said Han Yue once destroyed the mechanisms.

Due to the limited restoration time, unworkable Alkaid was simply given up.

But where is it hidden…

It's right here.

Deep in the dungeons, we found a huge hole.

Damn it! They found it.

Hurry up, go after them!

Don't let them leave Jiangqi Camp.

- Yes. - Hurry up.

- After them! - Get them!

Assemble.

Yu Niang.

Drop the Sword of Light, or you die here.

Yu girl.

Godfather!

Please… don't hurt her.

What? You thought I was going to hurt her?

Do you still have a use for her?

Isn't that right?

Yes.

I'm making use of her.

And you killed Li Rong and Cheng Xi, so that

she'd have no relatives to turn to.

That way she'd be wholly loyal to you,

isn't that right?

Yes.

You also intervened in her engagement

and married His Majesty, isn't that right?

Yes.

Why did you do all that

to someone who's never hurt you?

Jealousy.

I'm jealous of her talent and fighting skills.

Everyone likes her. Even His Majesty loves her.

She ruined my plans time and again,

leaving all my efforts in vain.

Actually, I'd wanted to kill her from the beginning.

But she's Wang Ruoling,

the only one in this world

who knows where the late emperor's edict is.

So I need to keep her alive

to restore her memory

and find the imperial edict.

I still need her.

What did the imperial edict say?

The imperial edict named

Prince Guang the next emperor.

So I'm going to enthrone Prince Guang

and then become his empress.

Good.

- Left Rook. - Yes, Your Grace.

I leave her to you.

You'll see to it that she is properly punished.

I have plenty of methods suitable for women.

All right then, take her away!

What are you doing?

She lost her memory.

The best way to tame a lady is to take control of her body

and destroy her will.

How dare you!

She belongs to me.

You dare touch her?

I said you will not touch her.

What is this? You still have some energy left, then.

Of course.

Who's next?

You think you can protect her?

I can.

How could your good boy

let you down?

You…

I'm…

not only capable of suicide,

but also bringing a real mess to Heng'an.

Do you believe me now, Godfather?

The military region seeks an excuse to revolt.

While Lucong is pacified, it's still possible to get revenge.

You killed people in Zhenwu, after all.

So that's enemies on three fronts.

Godfather, are you afraid now?

If you let Yu'er go,

Concubine Shu and I are still under your control.

You can remain Duke of Chu, with all that power.

Or...

you can keep going and lose it all.

I understand.

Cunning.

Your Majesty, how cunning you are!

Cunning indeed.

Disperse! Everybody disperse!

♫ The big ocean lasts thousands of years ♫

♫ All life wanders the world ♫

♫ There's never an end to cheating and deceiving ♫

♫ Seeing an old friend in my wine ♫

♫ The past stuck in my throat ♫

♫ I'm in a dream ♫

♫ And you're around me ♫

♫ The road to Chang'an last night ♫

♫ There's wind dragging my sleeve ♫

♫ Flowers are leaving their branches ♫

♫ And I'm leaving along with them ♫

♫ Holding anxiety tight ♫

♫ Removing doubt with doubt ♫

♫ Kissing me gently ♫

♫ Let all helplessness just sink away ♫

♫ The country will look different ♫

♫ If you leave or stay ♫

Are you okay, Your Majesty?

♫ And is unwilling to change for us ♫

♫ Staring at the sky together ♫

♫ And feeling time slow down ♫

Begin!

♫ With one glimpse, the city of Chang'an can be wiped out ♫

♫ The mindless world, the thriving society, and me ♫

♫ The days pass us by ♫

What are you doing?

His Grace believes that His Majesty and Your Highness must rest,

without exposure to drafts or sunlight.

♫ For what reason do the flowers lead the wind ♫

♫ Accompanying each other for life, through ups and downs ♫

♫ Joy can interpret this dream ♫

♫ The world of prosperity passes as this absurd life goes on ♫

You leave Heng'an temporarily to draw some attention away from me,

though it will be quite dangerous along the way.

Still, at the same time,

you might also find a lot of answers.

For example?

For example, Yanzhi…

what's in her heart.

Yu girl.

Godfather!

Please don't hurt her.

You still have a use for her?

Yes.

I'm making use of her.

Qiu Ziliang wants me to be Yanzhi's rival

so that he can torment her.

Why do you have this?

I have long since expected such a day.

This is one of the torture methods Deputy Advisor came up when he was alive.

Lock someone in an isolated dark room

with no sound or hope at all,

and don't give him anything to eat for three days.

Three days later when the door is opened,

he's still alive,

but his willpower has been completely destroyed.

Pretty genius idea by the Deputy Officer.

Anyway, he lost.

Do you know why?

Why?

Because justice is stronger than evil.

You still believe that?

Yes.

I know it to be true.

Qiu Ziliang planned to come between Yu'er and you.

But when he saw Yu'er's gaze as she left,

he must have felt it, too.

Really?

Because sincerity...

can never be concealed by any lie.

Yu Niang, don't blame yourself too much.

Though we acted recklessly, all is not in vain.

Now we know Qiu Ziliang's plan,

while he has no idea what ours is.

Isn't that right?

The top priority at present is to save His Majesty.

Only then can we get Prince Guang out with us and save Yanzhi.

Got it?

They're pretending to be weak

to get Qiu Ziliang to let down his guard.

Qiu Ziliang incited a riot in the Divine Army

so that he had a pretext to kill Minister Li.

His Majesty wants to thoroughly reassert

leadership over the Divine Army.

So Minister Li holds the key to success.

[DANFENG GATE] We want an explanation!

You owe us an explanation!

Explain yourself!

We want our salary back!

Come out, Li Deyun!

Give us our salary and provisions!

- Salary and provisions! - We want our salary and provisions!

- Salary and provisions! - Give us our salary!

- Salary and provisions! - Salary and provisions!

- Give us our due! - Our salaries!

We want our salaries!

You cut it unfairly!

Isn't that right?

Comrades! Li Deyun comes.

Let's go!

Let's get our explanation.

Come on! Let's go!

What's this! You dare stop the Chancellor?

What explanation are you waiting for?

Why were our salaries and provisions cut?

- For what? - Yes, for what?

Give us a good reason!

Why?

- Explain this! - Tell us why!

We already live hand to mouth.

And then you further reduced provisions for equipment and fodder!

We refuse, right?

Yes, we refuse!

Refuse! Refuse!

We refuse!

Every state or organization has its regulations.

You men gather here and defame your superiors,

flouting Divine Army norms and protocol.

Who's your leader?

Ask him to talk to me.

Our generals have all died.

We have no representative now.

So we have to do this by ourselves.

Yes, we need an explanation.

Yes. We won't go unless you cancel the edict.

What's this?

She's the one who distracted Qiu Ziliang.

What a smart idea!

Li Deyun has disappeared.

Comrades, withdraw!

You there, stay and hold the line, the rest follow me!

Yes, Sir!

It's the Yu girl again.

Letting a dangerous person go

is being far too merciful.

So you're criticizing me?

Never, Your Grace!

I only mean that Cheng Ruoyu

has ruined our plans again and again.

Why not just kill her?

There're plenty of other ways to make Yanzhi suffer.

Yanzhi.

Yanzhi.

This is the updated list of Golden Characters

for your Grace's review,

those who remained calm

and alert during the chaos yesterday.

Ask them to

kill Li Deyun even if

even if he's hidden himself away.

Then tell the masses

it was the Yu girl who did it all.

Then, you tie Cheng Ruoyu up and put her in front of Qi Yan.

When he's in the presence of so many officials,

I wonder how

His Majesty, the amorous emperor will react.

How long has it been?

Thirty hours.

Are you sure?

I've been counting.

The Golden Character selection must have finished by now.

Our spies probably found their promotions.

Yet with the complicated procedures

and recent trouble with the Divine Army, maybe it isn't over.

But the troops under Zhang Zhonglu

must have finished preparations.

So what's next?

Wait.

For what?

Your Majesty, terrible news!

Terrible news, Your Majesty.

Huaizhi.

Soldiers from the Divine Army became unruly at Danfeng Tower just now.

Yu'er appeared suddenly and took Minister Li away.

Drag Cheng Huaizhi away!

Your Majesty. Your Majesty!

We can't wait anymore.

You're the new Deputy Officer.

Interesting. We met yesterday.

Give us Li Deyun.

Li Deyun?

Who? You mean her?

[DANFENG GATE] Salary and provisions!

Give us our salary and provisions back!

- Give us what we're owed! - Give it back!

- We want our salary and provisions back! - Give us our salary and provisions!

- Comrades, it's Minister Li! - H-He's back.

- Brother Er Niu, what should we do? - Brother Er Niu.

- Where's he? - My fellows, I saw lots of his followers just before chasing after someone.

Fellows, Li Deyun is here.

What do you want to know?

I'm an open book.

Today, I'm here to settle this.

Where is Li Deyun?

Guess.

What are you waiting for? Demand your salary back.

Ask for what's been taken from you, hurry up!

Yes. Our pay!

- Give us our pay back! - Yeah

We need money to buy food. Give us our salary and provisions.

- You can't do this! - We deserve our proper pay!

We need money to buy food!

Now! Take him away!

Yes, Sir!

What are you doing? Let me go.

I'm one of Eunuch Qiu's men! What are you waiting for?

- Capture Li Deyun! - Protect Minister Li.

[DANfENG GATE]

Why are Golden Characters so weak?

Just let them go.

Come then, back to Danfeng.

[DANFENG GATE]

Your Majesty.

I, Li Deyun, am honored to see Your Majesty.

Long live His Majesty the Emperor!

I ordered Qi Yan to be watched.

Where are the Golden Characters?

Where are the soldiers I assigned?

Where are they?

How could Qi Yan have snuck out to meet Li Deyun?

- I have no idea. - No idea?

So why are you working here?

Don't dream of ever becoming Camp Guardian.

[DANFENG GATE]

The salary cuts are

total nonsense!

I never included any such order in my edict.

You men listened to one-sided rumors

and worked yourselves up.

Do our imperial funds

go to pay such a crowd of fools?

An imperial edict comes from the emperor.

Everything within expresses my will.

You men dare block the current chancellor.

Where did your courage and righteousness

come from?

Your Majesty, please forgive me.

Your Majesty, please forgive me.

Duke of Chu, do you not feel guilty

for causing this mess

with the Divine Army?

Yes,

I do.

So from now on, you're no longer the general of the cavalry.

You must stay at home for self-reflection

and there await my orders.

Your Majesty.

I see now, this was all

a part of your cunning machinations.

My plans?

Yours, I should think.

I saw your plans unfold

and simply acted accordingly.

Lord Qiu, Your Grace, allow me to escort you home.

What the hell are you?

Are you qualified to escort me?

Come.

Apologies, Your Majesty. The Sword-Bearer arrives late to her post.

Long live His Majesty the Emperor!

Good.

You are good!

Let's just...

wait and see.

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty.

Yu'er.

♫ All these desolate thoughts ♫

♫ I'll build a door to the sky with my thoughts of you ♫

You're back.

♫ And spend the rest life of mine with your company ♫

I never left.

What a brilliant idea,

using a decoy of Li Deyun.

Your Majesty, you came up with the Danfeng Tower scheme first,

and I just added one little detail.

To be precise,

I didn't come up with it

all by myself.
