[Brocade Odyssey]

[Episode 22]

Yingying,

luckily, we had you around.

Thank you.

When our family was in trouble,

you gave us a hand too.

We are family.

You do not have to thank me.

All right. I will keep my gratitude, then.

Once I reach home and settle down,

I will try my best to find you a good husband

to make your wish come true!

Just focus on yourself.

I am not in a rush!

I am not in a rush!

Yingying,

be good at home

while we are gone.

Do not simply go out,

all right?

My dear sister,

you do not have to come with me.

You are needed at home.

You are just worried that I will nag at Li Feng, are you not?

Is he scared of being reprimanded after doing this?

When I get there,

I will give him a proper scolding!

All right! We have spoken enough.

Let us get going.

Take care of yourselves on the way!

[Harbor] Let us depart.

I suppose

Mr. Zhao still knows Ms. Ji the best.

Mr. Bai,

you should just focus on doing your own tasks properly.

Madam, you have drunk too much.

I am confined here all day.

I cannot do anything.

I might as well entertain myself.

Mr. Zhao

has been going out frequently in recent days.

However, he has been very secretive.

I am not able to find out what he is doing.

What else could he be doing?

It must be related to Ji Yingying.

Ji Yingying's aunt came and left.

She even accepted a large order from Tubo.

She is rushing work for it.

Once Zhao Xiuyuan makes up his mind on something,

he will not just sit by and wait.

He must have had a hand in it.

You once said

it would benefit us

regardless of whether she succeeds or not.

If she succeeds,

I will have her life.

If she fails,

I will also have her life.

Do you not think she and I are alike?

We do not believe in fate.

We both want to survive

through our own efforts.

But she has so many people who love her.

Her parents,

her friends,

and the man she loves.

Why?

Why is she the same as me,

yet she is not falling

into the abyss with me?

Why?

The lonely white rabbit, gentle and bright.

Hops to the east,

yearns for west's light.

New clothes may gleam with a shine so true,

but old friends are the ones who will see you through.

Madam!

If there is an opportunity,

I will do everything I can.

Yu Yuan,

you are all I have.

No matter what happens,

you must put your safety first.

Do you understand?

Yes, I do.

The 1,000 guan is paid off now.

However,

there is still no news about Yan's dowry.

Hey,

why don't...

you lend us a little more?

Li Feng,

you have got us all into trouble

with your gambling.

Why are you not showing any remorse?

How can you be so shameless as to ask from my sister?

Shut up!

Was I talking to you?

I was tricked by others!

I did not lose on purpose!

Besides,

your sister's business has improved.

So what is wrong

with lending me some money?

Am I right?

Here.

Let me get you a cup of tea.

Have a drink.

Li Feng, listen here!

You are wrong to get into gambling!

What did you promise

when you asked for my sister's hand in marriage?

You would get a successful work after marriage.

Where is it now?

Are you not ashamed

to call yourself a man?

Hey!

When your family was in trouble,

I know that

she secretly helped you!

What now?

Are you criticizing me

just because you did me a small favor?

All right! I understand!

You do not want to help us.

You want to cut ties with me!

Am I right?

We are family.

You can just get straight to the point.

Li Feng!

Do you think my sister has it easy with her business?

You lost 1,000 guan!

Yingying is a little girl.

She had to run everywhere

to finally gather enough money for you!

They never asked you to go into a bond of debt, did they?

How can you be so shameless

as to take advantage of their family?

Bond of debt?

How dare you bring that up?

I see it now.

You two are working together to set me up,

are you not?

You...!

What about me?

- You are twisting facts! - Was I wrong?

Say that again!

I will teach you a lesson today!

You want to teach me a lesson?

Get out!

I will leave now.

Are you all right?

Here.

Sit down.

Slowly.

Boatman,

when will we reach the shore?

Soon!

Why are you not getting some rest

inside the boat's cabin?

The two women are too noisy.

I came to get some air.

Ms. Ji!

Mr. Ji!

What's wrong, Gui?

Mrs. Ji...

Mrs. Ji is in trouble!

There is so much blood!

I have never been more unlucky!

I cannot used my boat now!

[Harbor]

You two are sisters!

You got into a fight!

There was not a need to kill her, was there?

Mother!

Move!

Mother?

Mother!

Mother!

Mrs. Ji...

Mother, what happened?

It was not me.

It really was not me.

Your aunt... is dead.

I did not kill her!

I did not kill your aunt!

Mother...

Aunt Yan...

That...!

Uncle Feng, what exactly happened?

It was all your mother!

She killed my wife!

Impossible!

You are lying!

Mrs. Ji of Sandaoyan

murdered Mrs. Li of Ba County.

We have witness and evidence here.

Lock her up in the county magistrate's prison for prosecution later on.

Everyone else,

move aside!

Hold on!

Wait!

Why would my mother kill my aunt?

There must be a mistake somewhere!

If you hinder us from performing our duty,

we will bring you in together!

Move! Let us go!

Mother, do not be afraid!

Yingying!

Mother, do not worry!

Mother!

Ting!

I did not kill your aunt!

I really did not kill her!

Leave your explanation...

Mother, I know!

for the magistrate!

[Tangchang County Magistrate]

Officer, it has been a long time now.

Is the county magistrate still occupied?

Would you please help us talk to him again?

Even if we are not able to see him,

it would be enough if you could explain the situation!

I agree!

We already said he is preoccupied!

Get going!

Apologies for my intrusion.

I did not mean to disturb you from your work.

There is no such thing!

It is my honor

to have the opportunity to sit down and have a drink with you.

The people outside...?

I am not going to see them!

No!

Mr. Zhao is correct.

We have all the evidence.

There is no room for denial.

Here's to you.

We cannot just keep waiting here.

Since the boatman and Uncle Feng were at the scene,

I will go and ask them about what happened again.

Yaoting, find a legal practitioner.

Have him take a look at this case

and see what we should do next.

All right.

Ms. Ji!

Mr. Ji!

Gui!

I have bad news!

A thief broke into our residence!

All the silk we just stocked up have been stolen!

What?

Yaoting,

I will head home to have a look.

You should still look for a legal practitioner.

Let us split up.

All right.

Come on, Gui!

Was it only the silk?

Did they steal any of our money?

Only the silk!

I noticed that the door was broken open when I came home.

Even the storehouse has been emptied!

I cannot think of which scoundrel who would do this!

Gui,

take some money from the house

and go to my brother.

I will take a look at the storehouse

and see if the thief left any traces behind.

They did not steal money.

That means wealth is not what they seek.

They were able to move a large amount of silk in a short period of time.

That means they came prepared.

They struck

at the same time Mother got into trouble.

Thief! Stop!

Help!

Help me!

Mrs. Ji is imprisoned.

Their business got hit.

Do you think Ji Yingying will submit

in the face of this double crisis?

Instead of becoming Zhao Xiuyuan's concubine,

she might as well work for me.

Master, Ms. Ji's residence caught fire.

Let me go! I want to save Yingying!

The fire is too strong!

Are you trying to die?

She is alone!

- She is inside all alone! - No!

Listen to me!

No!

The fire is too strong! Stop rushing to get in!

Behave!

Pin, the fire is too strong!

Are you trying to kill yourself?

Yingying is here!

Yingying!

Yingying, are you all right?

Are you all right?

Yingying!

Put out the fire!

Yingying!

Put out the fire quickly!

Wake up!

What happened?

What is going on?

What happened here?

Yingying!

Put out the fire!

Hurry up and put out the fire!

Yingying!

Ji Yingying!

What happened?

- Yingying! - Ms. Ji!

Yingying!

She is waking up!

She is alive! Put out the fire first!

Put out the fire!

The fire!

Thank goodness you are awake!

Pin, look after her!

Hurry!

Master, are you all right?

Are you injured?

I am fine.

That is good to hear.

Please forgive me for being frank.

However useful Ms. Ji is,

she cannot compare to a millionth of your life.

You should not have put

so much importance in her.

What are we going to do

if something were to happen

to you tonight?

Ji Yingying

has her own views toward brocade.

She is highly talented.

If we want to achieve our goal,

a talent like her

is a must.

That was why I saved her.

The fire was not

as bad earlier.

If I was not perfectly confident,

I would not have acted brashly.

If...

I want to use a person.

If I want her to work for me,

there is nothing more important than the favor for saving her life.

Am I right?

Where is Yingying?

Why don't you go and check on her yourself?

You promised me

that you would not hurt her.

Why did she almost burn to death today?

If I wanted to harm her,

would I save her myself?

Listen here.

I will not forgive you

if anything happens to her!

I am afraid we will not make it in time

for the Xu and Zou families' orders.

Mr. Chen,

can you please help calculate

the penalty that will be incurred by these two orders?

Bloom Society will receive a sum of payment tomorrow.

Adding it to the previous orders,

there should be about 300 guan.

While it is not enough,

I am confident I can convince them to delay the deadline.

Following that,

the Yang and Shen families' orders

are the most urgent.

Other than dyeing,

we will also have to mix the color.

There can be no mistakes.

Can all of you

handle this?

Leave it to me.

Do not worry.

Ms. Ji has taught us for so long.

We will definitely be of use this time.

We must not

let Yingying fret over Bloom Society's business.

We must handle it on our own.

But now that we lost the silk,

we will not be able to start production

on Mr. Qian's large order.

It is all right.

There will be a way.

We have survived

countless plights before.

This, too, shall pass!

Come on! Let us split up and work on our tasks.

Yes.

It will be all right, Gui.

It will be all right.

Yaoting...!

Yingying, sit!

Sit properly!

Are you still feeling unwell?

I am all right.

How is Mother?

They still refuse

to allow me to meet Mother.

I gave the warden some money

and asked him to help us care for her.

I have also found a legal practitioner.

But the magistrate claims

that the case is still under investigation.

They will pick a date for court.

I will visit a few other places

to get more information.

You do not have to worry about this.

Do not worry.

What are you doing here?

Are you hurt?

Mr. Zhao, save your concern.

Our family is a mess right now.

We are not receiving guests at the moment.

Please leave.

Why was there a fire all of a sudden?

Why, do you think?

Who are my enemies

in Yizhou?

Why did they steal the silk,

light a fire intentionally, and come after my life?

Someone start a fire intentionally

to go after your life?

So, you suspect it was me?

I would rather die

than hurt a hair on you!

The people who want to harm me

have always been the same.

Yingying!

Yaoting, you do not need to do this, do you?

I only want to say

that if I could help you

rebuild your family the last time,

I can also do that again this time.

We will never forget

the favor you did for us.

But you are now married.

There is no need to talk like this any longer,

or people will misunderstand if they hear you.

I do not care what they think!

I can help you.

I also want to help you!

You need me now!

She does not.

Are you going to leave?

We will not be so polite

if you still refuse to leave!

All right. Since none of you believe me,

I will find the true culprit.

Dear, are you here to visit me?

Come and have a look.

What do you want to show me?

Something interesting.

Yu Yuan!

What are you scheming?

Ji Yingying almost got burned to death in her home.

Do you know about that?

You have had me confined in the house all day!

Why would I know about that?

I thought you knew.

Must you let it out on the two of us

just because something happened to Ms. Ji?

She admitted to it!

She said she did it.

Within Yizhou,

there are countless of people who hate Ji Yingying.

But you two

are the only ones who want her dead.

You envy her.

The more successful she is,

the more obvious it is that you are an impostor.

A lowly servant.

Do you think

I will care if she dies?

She will not die!

I learned about water torture

from your father.

At the beginning,

she will only be agitated.

But slowly,

she will begin to lose consciousness.

In the end,

living is not much different from being dead.

It was me.

I was jealous of Ji Yingying.

I sent Yu Yuan to keep watch on you.

I want to kill her regardless of the method.

This has nothing

to do with Yu Yuan.

Let her go, please?

Do you think

I am unaware of your thoughts?

You once said

we are the same type of people.

We do not live for ourselves.

We will only wish we were dead

when the things we care for are harmed.

I am the one you hate.

Let her go.

Let her go, please?

Listen here.

If anything happens to Ji Yingying,

I will come after you,

regardless of whether you are behind it.

I am not after anything else.

I just want to make myself feel better!

Yu Yuan...

Yu Yuan!

Yu Yuan!

Yu Yuan...

Yu Yuan...

Within this divided land,

I might be the emperor's father-in-law, but I am but a symbol.

Wait!

You are the governor's secretary.

Why are you afraid of a lowly county magistrate?

Above a governor's secretary is the governor.

And above the governor is the military commissioner.

While this case

should be prosecuted by the county magistrate,

every minister working in Yizhou

knows about it.

Ms. Ji,

you should understand what I am trying to say.

You need to get to the source of the problem to fix it.

It is Niu Jin's orders.

I did not say anything!

Hold on! What are you talking about?

How about this? Just wait here.

I will get help from Chang'an.

Where are you going?

Do you know who is behind all of this?

You are going for help?

They are all too far away.

Even Chang'an cannot oversee everything.

Then...!

What is going to happen to her?

Shisi,

help me find my uncle, Li Feng, first.

I want to know what exactly happened that day.

Sure! Leave it to me.

Yingying,

do you know who is framing Mother?

Is it the Niu family?

Or is it Zhao Xiuyuan?

[Li Feng's Bond of Debt] Our master said

if you repay us within three days,

nothing will happen.

If you do not,

you can just wait and see what will happen

to your husband and daughter!

Ms. Ji, if you trust me,

I can lend you a sum of money

to use as a buffer.

I would rather die

than harm a hair on you!

I was not careful enough.

If it was not for me,

Aunt Yan would not have died.

Mother also will not...

It is not your fault that you thrive!

You did nothing wrong.

He also cannot make everything go their way.

There must be a place

that upholds justice within Yizhou.

There must also be a minister who dares to undertake it!

[Brocade Bureau]

I told you I will not let you face everything alone.

You got into trouble, did you not?

Yingying?

Yingying!

What is it?

It's nothing.

[The Bai Residence]

Master,

Ms. Ji is here.

Thank you for saving me from the fire last night.

It was nothing.

I merely did not want to lose

a good business partner like you.

I was too careful with you previously.

I brought a gift

to express my gratitude.

Whenever you want to order silk or brocade,

no matter the amount,

it will be priced a tenth lower than market price.

This is a promise from Bloom Society.

Whenever you are in trouble,

as long as it is not immoral

or illegal,

I will help you out of it.

This is my promise

to my friend.

[No regrets, even in death.]

Friend?

By the way,

I heard that

Bloom Society is purchasing some dye materials and silk.

But some people are pulling strings behind the scene.

Is that why you have not been able to gather everything?

Yes.

To be frank with you,

the most important thing

to you right this moment

is not your business,

but your mother.

Will you believe

that I am able

to save your mother?

Yes.

That is good.

Let us discuss the conditions.

What do you want?

I want...

you.

I want you to dye silk and mix colors

for me from now on.

I want you to get Bloom Society

and the Yu family to work for me.

I want you

to return to Nanzhao with me.

So that is your true intentions

toward me.

You need a bigger stage.

With your talents,

the stage in Yizhou is too small.

You do not need to make purchasing servants

sound so pleasant.

Servants? I have a lot of them.

I want talented people.

Of course, business negotiations

do not need to be decided on the spot.

If you are not satisfied,

we

can negotiate further.

There is no need.

To express my gratitude,

I will leave that note with you.

But this...

You are not a friend

one would be willing to sacrifice for.

Farewell.

You are being attacked on all sides,

yet you still will not concede.

Are you planning

to go to that Master Zhao?

All of Bloom Society know

that I came here to thank you today.

If I do not return by nightfall,

people will come to look for me.

A spy that was placed by your side.

What are you waiting for?

Ze!

Please forgive me!

Forgive me!

I am sorry!

I raised you since you were a baby!

Kill her.

Kill the things that you care about.

From now on, you will be untouchable.

Kill her!

If you are troubled by feelings,

you will not achieve anything in life!

Father is right.

Love

is the most useless thing

in this world.

What is Bloom Society up to?

Helping Ji Yingying with the orders.

They have settled all the smaller orders.

But they cannot sort out

Mr. Qian's order.

They are trying to raise funds

to purchase silk and dye materials again.

Please rest assured.

Our men are watching them.

Even if they get enough funds,

they will not be able to buy everything.

What about Ji Yingying?

Ms. Ji

went to see Bai Sheng.

Why do you always go

to the men you just met

rather than come to me?

Is Mrs. Ji

doing well in prison?

Since she was suddenly apprehended,

it is expected that she will be overly anxious.

But because of your orders,

the warden did not use any torture on her.

She is still unharmed.

Overly anxious...

I suppose it might affect her health.

Come on!

Small!

Place your bets!

Hands off!

[Big] Big!

Small!

Small!

Big!

We found him! He is inside!

Aunt Yan just passed away.

But instead of settling her affairs,

he came here to gamble!

That is not all.

I saw him being very generous

inside there.

He lost tens of guan in a game.

He looked unperturbed.

He seemingly is not short of money!

Get him!

Come on!

All right!

You were in a lot of debts recently.

Why are you so rich now?

Are you hiding some shortcut

to get rich from us?

No...!

No!

This money belongs to my family.

My stupid wife

would not let me spend it.

Now that she is dead,

I can finally splurge now!

That does not seem right.

I heard that your wife borrowed a lot of money from the Ji family

to pay off your debts.

Why would she borrow money if she had so much?

She kept this money

for our daughter's dowry.

She would not have used it on me!

It is the truth.

Dowry!

Ouch!

Do you think I will believe that?

Speak your truth! Where did you get the money?

I have been investigating you for a few days.

The money you owed

was all paid off

before your wife came to get you.

How did you pay it off?

Is it the 1,000 guan from the Ji family?

No!

Sir, I am telling the truth.

This is my money!

Your money?

Did you kill your wife

and blame it on another

because of that 1,000 guan?

Ji Yingying sent you, did she?

Ji...!

Who is that?

I am asking you where you got the money!

Why are you bringing up someone else?

Go back and tell Ji Yingying

that even if you beat me to death today,

that person was murdered by her mother!

The boatman and I

saw it clearly!

Do not try to push it on me!

No deal!

I...

Try it!

Try and touch me again!

I will report to the magistrate

that you are trying to kill a witness!

Untie me!

I say, untie me!

I... Was I

too straightforward? Are we exposed?

Since he dares to use the money for gambling,

that means he has thought of an excuse.

I suppose we will not be able to get him to confess.

Then, have we wasted our efforts these past few days?

At least we know

that Uncle Feng is suspicious.

Let us go and meet that boatman today.

Hold on!

Even if there is evidence,

there is no use if the magistrate will not go to court.

[The Residence of Yizhou's Governor] My mother is innocent!

Governor, please look into this

and get us justice!

The governor said

the local county magistrate will handle the case.

You are not to bypass the chain of command!

Mr. Meng is delaying the case and refusing to go to court.

My mother fell sick in custody, but he forbids medical care!

Governor, please get us justice!

Governor, please have a look at my appeal!

Off with the appeal!

The governor is being very generous to you.

Do not be ungrateful!

Leave at once.

Otherwise, we will use punishment on you.

I am Ji Yaoting

of Sandaoyan.

My mother, Mrs. Ji, was framed of murder.

The county magistrate is delaying the case and refusing to go to court.

My mother fell sick in custody,

but he will not allow for medical care!

Governor, please get us justice!

Ji Yaoting, you are a commoner going against a minister.

You cannot do this!

Yu, stay out of this.

Ji Yaoting!

The county magistrate forbids medical care!

Please get us justice, governor!

Move! Stand back!

This man has caused disorder

and created a scene.

The governor has ordered that he be punished

as a lesson.

They are going to punish him!

A brocade weaver

cares about their hands above all else.

You still have the chance to repent now.

Ji Yaoting!

Even if I lose my hands today,

I will still help my mother

appeal for her innocence!

Let us see how long you can keep this up!

Do it!

Ji Yaoting, at this juncture,

just surrender if you have to.

My mother is a lone widow.

She empathizes with the poor and weak.

She is virtuous, yet she is being slandered.

Where is the justice in this?

Do you concede?

My mother is sick! She is denied medical care!

A woman wronged

and suffering unjustly!

There is no regard for human life!

What happened to justice?

What happened to it?

How dare you call yourself a minister who serves the people?

You are oppressing a commoner out in public!

You disregard the misfortune we are suffering from!

It is the Ji family today.

Who knows which family will suffer tomorrow?

The Ji family's eldest son came to appeal his mother's innocence.

It is reasonable and legal,

yet he got punished for it.

If we are wrongly accused in the future,

does that mean we will be following the footsteps of the Ji family

and have no place where we can appeal our innocence?

I agree!
