[STAND BY ME]

[EPISODE 31]

Secondly,

can you take good care of your brothers and sisters?

You must swear to do so.

Look at me.

No matter what happens,

and no matter how hard it gets,

stay alive.

You and your siblings, stay alive.

As long as you're alive,

and as long as our Qi clan remains

then the Qi bloodline will never disappear.

Y-Y-Yes.

I…

Okay…

I…

I'll do my best.

Good.

Good, Brother.

Brother.

And…

Your Majesty!

And… wasn't… wasn't there a third question?

Your Majesty!

No more questions.

Just take care of yourself.

Brother, are you really unwell?

They say your illness is incurable.

I… will hold on until you ascend the throne.

Don't worry, Younger Brother.

Emperor, please take care of yourself.

The Camp Guardian has asked me to escort you to the palace.

[JIANGQI CAMP]

[QIU]

[JIANGQI CAMP]

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

I'm fine.

I'm fine.

Your Majesty, you insisted on coming to see His Highness An.

And the real point of it was to ask the third question, right?

The third was about something…

I can't myself do.

Why should I ask something so difficult of him?

Can you take good care of yourself?

Can you take good care of your brothers and sisters?

Thirdly, can you win?

Tell me you can!

You win, and the Xing Dynasty rises.

You lose, and the Xing Dynasty falls.

Wang Yang, Zheng Lu, I,

and the thousands of people who died in the Zhaolu Incident,

we've all died so that you can win.

So tell me you will win!

I... will win!

The trees before Emperor Xuanzong's tomb on Mount Jinsu have grown large.

The area around Baidi in Qutang Gorge is desolate with autumn grass.

At a fancy party, the rush of music played by the wind instruments ends again.

Extreme joy begets sorrow when the moon shines bright, and I am in fear.

Though I have my bow in hand

and the will to shoot the sun,

there will be many years of war,

and the state is in disarray.

I really...

hate to lose like this.

Since when are you free to come and go here as you please?

Since Cheng Ruoyu became a regular guest here.

Camp Guardian, it would be wrong to take that as a provocation.

- Then what is it? - A reminder.

Besides, uou should thank Qi Yan and Cheng Ruoyu for coming to see Prince An tonight,

so that you could avoid another blunder.

This is also a reminder.

[HANGUANG HALL]

I still remember the first time I saw you.

You looked at me

and said I looked familiar to you.

At that time, I was thinking that

this woman was a pain in the ass.

But then after, every time I saw you,

you were smiling.

I wondered when that damned arrogant smile

was going to go away.

And now, instead of smiling,

you're always crying.

Your Majesty, you know what?

You're the only person in the world

who can make me both smile and cry.

I'm sorry, Yu'er.

Sorry for making you cry.

I won't cry. I won't cry.

As long as you're with me,

you'll always see me smiling.

I won't cry.

Leave Heng'an with Huaizhi.

I'll feel more at ease with him looking after you.

I won't leave you.

Wherever you are, I will be there.

In my life, I've been the emperor

and the son of an eunuch,

and now I've made someone who loves to smile

cry for me like this.

So I guess I've done all there is to do.

I will not leave you.

Yu'er.

Later, you'll surely meet someone

who only makes you smile and never makes you cry.

I…

I wish…

I wish you luck.

Your Majesty!

I'm jealous…

I'm already jealous of him.

I'm jealous of him.

Why him…

and not me?

Why can't it be me?

We'll always be together.

What's there to be jealous of?

That man, it's you, Your Majesty.

Okay?

It'll be you, Your Majesty!

♫ The water ripples as the fish tears gush out ♫

♫ Once you enter the sea, roots grow under your feet ♫

♫ Your sudden kiss ♫

♫ Disturbs my prepared indifference ♫

♫ The clouds ask the flying geese ♫

♫ How much truth there is in the words of people ♫

♫ Don't rush to sleep alone ♫

♫ And miss the fine view and the good man ♫

♫ Between Heaven and Earth ♫

♫ I'm seeking words of love ♫

♫ In the midst of wax and wane ♫

♫ I'm looking for a place of joy ♫

♫ Heaven and Earth ♫

♫ How can we have both? ♫

♫ No need to hold down the storm in your heart ♫

Your Majesty, you'll surely get better.

♫ ...And seeing who holds back first ♫

In the future, I'll smile more often in front of you.

♫ I'm waiting here ♫

♫ Waiting for a fire to burn out ♫

Have a good sleep, and everything will be fine.

♫ And spend the rest of my life in your company ♫

♫ Between Heaven and Earth ♫

♫ I'm seeking the words of love ♫

♫ In the midst of wax and wane ♫

♫ I'm looking for a place of joy ♫

♫ Heaven and Earth ♫

♫ How can we have both? ♫

♫ No need to hold down the storm in your heart ♫

♫ Competing with fate ♫

♫ And seeing who holds back first ♫

[JIANGQI CAMP]

You mean Right Rook knew you were going to kill Prince An tonight?

Yes.

I didn't know that he had you under surveillance.

There's no need to look around.

It was a guess, not something he saw.

What does he want?

He had only one purpose,

to stop me from killing Prince An.

And he didn't do it for Qiu Ziliang, but for someone else.

Who?

Chief Chancellor.

Master, the day after tomorrow is the abdication ceremony.

Prince An is still alive.

Qi Yan is also alive.

Yan Zhi, Cheng Ruoyu, Qiu Ziliang,

they can all live.

Let's keep them alive to start a new game.

You've decided to move this chess piece?

- Somebody! - Yes.

Have the healer come tomorrow.

- Okay. - Okay.

His Majesty didn't kill Prince An yesterday.

He gave him a few instructions and then returned.

It's not a surprising turn of events.

It's all to be expected.

He's the same as the late emperor.

They're both soft-hearted good-for-nothings.

Forget it.

He's dying, so don't bother with him.

By the way, what about Yanzhi?

Is there anything suspicious?

Nothing.

Keep an eye on Yanzhi.

Tomorrow is the abdication ceremony.

I don't want anything to go wrong.

Yes, got it.

What? Don't you have anything to say?

If I… ask you to leave it all behind,

enter a period of retreat, and purge all toxins before you return, would you?

No.

Then there's nothing to say.

That said, I have a strong feeling

that my abdominal qi has been surging of late.

It's not the best time for a retreat.

Let's wait until Prince An is enthroned.

This is all the information on Lin and Number Nine.

All I could find in the short time I had.

[Number Nine, named Liu Xijiu, trained at Jiangqi Camp three…]

Do you really think they're Chief Chancellor's men?

It's just a suspicion. So I need to find proof.

If it's true, then Chief Chancellor is really inscrutable.

You haven't found Cheng Xi?

I want to see Chief Chancellor. Help me arrange it.

Understood.

Your Majesty, you're awake.

How do you feel? Are you feeling better?

Look at me. I'm as right as rain.

Your Majesty, you're surprised, aren't you?

I didn't expect Chief Officer would be so good at bonesetting.

Chief Officer set your broken bones?

Besides, Your Majesty's herbs are also from her.

Your Majesty, you're worried it's a trap, aren't you?

I've been worried, too. But I've tasted the herbs and they're fine.

As long as they keep Your Majesty alive,

no matter how dirty the trick is,

I'm willing to accept it.

Your Majesty, instead of waiting for the third person to save us,

I think we should save ourselves.

What do you think?

Are you really all right now?

The abdication ceremony is tomorrow.

His Grace has sent another fifty men to protect Prince An.

There's word the Changming Palace is almost ready.

So we just wait for tomorrow.

What's that sound?

It's a tune specifically for this kind of ceremony.

I've heard it on the day of Your Majesty's enthronement.

Tomorrow, you'll be able to hear it again.

Your Majesty, do you really want to give up?

What else can I do? Kill my own younger brother?

Do you know?

Do you regret?

Do you feel happy?

I feel happy.

Your Majesty, you're…

Different, right?

Your Majesty used to be like a bow.

Always tense.

Now, Your Majesty is…

I used to be tense because I couldn't let go of the throne.

I always wanted to have it both ways.

But now I'm willing to part with everything.

Then I can really win.

He won't see me?

Yes, Chief Chancellor says in order to avoid arousing suspicion

before the abdication ceremony, he won't see you.

It seems that he wants to protect not only me,

but also Prince An.

Prince An?

Halt!

By order of the Duke of Chu, the Bureau of Attire is here to help His Highness An try on his robes.

Your Highness Prince An, by order of the Duke of Chu,

the Bureau of Attire is here to help Your Highness try on his robes.

Come in, everyone!

We meet again, Your Highness,

our future emperor.

No. I'll just call you nephew.

You've coveted something you shouldn't have.

Shouldn't you pay the price for that?

Don't kill me!

It's you!

I can't believe you've joined against me!

Don't be surprised.

It seems you forget it was Chief Chancellor who helped you choose this group of mercenaries.

You brutal and cold-blooded bastard!

I've always wanted to help you become the emperor.

Still, you saved Qi Yan and Qi Rong, but not me.

It is to save you that we've stopped you.

If he hadn't stopped me so many times,

I would have succeeded.

You! Go back to where you came from.

How much longer until tomorrow's ceremony?

Less than twelve hours.

Let's go to Prince An's place.

At this hour?

I've been feeling a bit restless.

Just in case,

I'd like to keep an eye on him personally.

Godfather, this is great.

I'm not afraid now that you're here.

What are you afraid of?

As long as I'm alive, no one can hurt you. Got that?

Come. Let's do some cricket-fighting.

Come on.

You're going to become emperor tomorrow!

You should be happy.

If you want to be the emperor, you have to behave like one.

You must know how to reward others and how to be grateful.

Your Highness An, if you want tomorrow's abdication ceremony to go smoothly,

then don't tell anyone that Court Lady Cheng had come here today.

♫ You can't see clearly during the day ♫

♫ As long as you don't explain there is no lie ♫

♫ But the battlefield never teaches me ♫

♫ I also made wishes ♫

♫ Being missed equally ♫

♫ The old sadness is still here ♫

♫ Nightmares crush my dreams ♫

♫ Let's see, between love and hate who will win? ♫

♫ Where I've wandered has changed so much ♫

♫ Life is nothing without you ♫

♫ Even with all the hypocrisy ♫

♫ And the distance ♫

♫ We won't miss each other ♫

[JIANGQI CAMP]

♫ Life is like fallen flowers and leaves ♫

♫ The heavier it is, the less further it goes ♫

[SHEN NONG, CREATOR OF CHESS] ♫ The bright moon above ♫

♫ Waxes and wanes all the time ♫

♫ I can't help it when love is strong ♫

♫ Just like the days that are gone ♫

Good.

Godfather!

Very good.

You look very good.

The new emperor of our kingdom,

and the hope of the Xing Dynasty!

Good!

Bring it!

I'm happy now.

I'll put it on you personally.

Please rise.

How do you feel?

Godfather, will Brother attend the ceremony today?

Do you want him to come?

Yes.

You're the new emperor.

You have the final say.

- Guards! - Yes.

Go and invite Qi Yan. Invite him to attend the ceremony.

He can sit aside and watch me crown the new emperor.

Yes, Your Highness.

Satisfied?

Godfather, you know what? This crown is actually pretty heavy.

Heavy?

That's the weight of the Xing Dynasty.

What are you afraid of?

As long as I'm alive, you can bear it.

Godfather. Godfather.

Godfather! Godfather!

Godfather!

This… This…

Godfather.
