- [John] In July, 1947,

reports emerged of a crashed object

on a ranch owned by Mack Brazel.

The initial statement from
the Roswell Army Airfield

claimed that a flying
disk had been recovered.

- Roswell is near and dear to my heart

because I'm actually very good
friends with Denise Marcel,

and it was her grandfather

who was the first official
at the debris field.

They sent him out from
Roswell Air Force Base.

Now, he was the head of security
for Roswell Air Force Base.

They sent him out with
another soldier in a Jeep

and they got to the debris field,

and what they saw was a
square mile of this material.

And now, I heard that there
was no breeze, no wind,

but it seemed like it
was moving in motion.

- [John] However, a day later,

the military revised its statement,

asserting that the recovered debris

was actually from a weather balloon

used in a top-secret project.

- The military's ambiguous

and sort of shifting explanations

regarding the Roswell incident

have actually contributed

- [John] Some contend that all the debris

was publicly accounted for and explained.

Others claim that portions of the debris

were retained and studied
at military facilities,

And the material they called memory metal

because they noticed it
had the tensile strength

of the strongest steel.

Tensile strength of titanium
is what they were saying.

But yet, it was lighter than tinfoil,

it was lighter than balsa wood.

- [John] A highly classified and secretive

United States Air Force facility, Area 51,

is located in the Nevada desert.

It has been commonly associated

with various conspiracy theories

related to unidentified
flying objects, UFOs,

and extraterrestrial phenomena.

- So they sent Kelly Johnson out there

and he found the most
desolate dry lake bed

that he could find,

away from prying eyes.

There weren't roads
really that went there,

there were just a couple of cattle ranches

that were off of the site,

and that's where they built Area 51,

which was a secret
facility up until recently.

So apparently, the rumor is

that there's a thing called the Blue Room

where they keep the crash materials,

supposedly bodies.

- [John] Area 51 gained
widespread attention

due to claims made by UFO enthusiasts

and conspiracy theorists

who believe that the facility

has been used to study
crashed alien spacecraft

and even house captured
extraterrestrial beings.

- They flew Jesse Marcel Sr.

out to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base,

which by the way is where,

if you capture like an enemy airplane

or some piece of enemy
technology that's terrestrial,

that's where they send it
for reverse engineering.

of cutting-edge facilities
and laboratories,

dedicated to the development,
testing and evaluation

of advanced aircraft, propulsion systems

and defense technologies.

- Some conspiracy theories

suggest that the wreckage

from the alleged Roswell UFO crash in 1947

was transported to
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

for analysis and reverse engineering.

by the name of Richard Sauder,

who's written a quite a few books

on deep underground military bases,

also known as DUMBs,

which my mom worked in one actually,

back in the 1950s.

Maybe it was an underground at Area 51.

I figure it was probably either there

or maybe White Sands, New Mexico.

I remember what my mom told me,

that, "They will never, ever,
ever tell the public, Son.

They will never tell the public."

She was so emphatic about it.

- It's exceedingly uncommon

for the government to divulge
top-secret information,

as they typically prioritize

the confidentiality of sensitive data.

In cases like Project Blue Book,

where the US government
investigated UFO sightings,

the prevailing tendency has
been to exercise caution

and often withhold
information from the public.

- [John] Project Blue Book

was a United States Air Force program

that aimed to investigate and document

reports of unidentified flying objects

or unidentified aerial phenomena.

The project headquartered

at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

- Government officials
ultimately retracted

a significant amount of information

that had been made public

about Project Blue Book,

reflecting the government's inclination

to maintain secrecy

- The way that officialdom
deals with the UFO problem,

and this goes all the way back to 1952,

or '53 when they convened
the Robertson Panel,

"People are seeing flying saucers,

And the documents are out there,

we can see what they said.

They said, "We will use ridicule,

scientists and astronomers

to go out there and say,
"These people are crazy

and they don't know what
they're talking about.

They're a bunch of
hicks and know-nothings,

or people that are
trying to get attention."

And I think that this worked better

than they even expected it would.

such sites around the world.

- There's actually a range
of lesser-known locations

that also spark curiosity

in the search for alien phenomena.

For instance, the
mountain Sphinx in Romania

has baffled scientists for decades.

It's a supposedly natural rock formation

that mirrors the Great Sphinx in Egypt.

Rendlesham Forest in England

gained attention due to
reports of a UFO incident

involving military personnel.

The Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico,

while primarily focused
on radio astronomy,

has also been linked to speculation

about sending and receiving messages

to potential extraterrestrial
civilizations.

- [John] The growing rate

of unidentified aerial phenomena sightings

is too rapid to disregard.

These reports are sparking
increased interest and scrutiny,

underscoring the need for

- Not all unidentified aerial phenomena

for reporting unidentified

established by the US

The DOD's Unidentified

speaking with a number of pilots,

we're somewhere near 5% reporting perhaps.

I was an intelligence
officer for 14 years,

both in the US Air Force,

both active duty, Air
National Guard and Reserve,

at the rank of major.

testified under oath

that the US government possesses UFOs

and non-human bodies,

and has been aware of non-human
activity since the 1930s.

- Following concerning reports

from multiple esteemed and
credentialed current and former

military and intelligence
community individuals

that the US government is
operating, with secrecy,

above congressional oversight

with regards to UAPs.

- The Pentagon has acknowledged
that these things are real.

They don't know what they are,

nobody knows what they are.

but at least the government

is now acknowledging
for the first time that,

yeah, by and large, these
things are not hallucinations,

they're not mental illness.

- [John] Ralph Blumenthal
is a seasoned journalist

who has worked as a reporter and editor

for "The New York Times".

He is recognized for his reporting on UFOs

and related phenomena.

- There is a technology that
the government is pursuing

that may have come from
some of these UAP or UFOs

that they're trying to duplicate.

And it may be in the government's interest

to pretend or to say that,
"Oh, these are all UFOs,

what you're seeing

is not the latest American technology."

So maybe some people have seen
very advanced US aircraft.

And in order to hide the
highly classified nature

of this technology,

the government say, "Oh, you saw a UFO."

- Before this year's subcommittee,

believing any conspiracy theory

related to aliens was challenging,

given the absence of public disclosures

by government officials

regarding classified information.

But with Grusch's confirmation
that the government

indeed possesses physical
evidence of alien life,

the landscape shifted,

opening up the possibility

that the work of other
researchers in the field

may now be viewed as potentially credible.

- [John] After Grusch made his comments

at this year's committee,

other government officials came forward

with claims that government organizations

have been withholding evidence

related to extraterrestrial phenomena,

intensifying the discussion
about transparency

and disclosure in this area.

- We'll say there are people
that have come forward

to share information with our committee

over the last couple of years.

I would imagine some of them

are potentially some of the same people

that perhaps he's referring to.

I wanna be very protective
of these people.

- Government officials appear

to have been privately reporting

unidentified aerial phenomena activity

to their superiors for years.

However, a pervasive fear
of potential retaliation

or other consequences

may have prevented these reports

from being officially documented

or made public.

- [John] In light of recent claims

regarding the government's
possession of alien biologics,

a lingering question persists,

where are these extraterrestrial bodies?

- Mr. Grusch, finally, do you
believe that our government

is in possession of UAPs?

- Absolutely, based on interviewing

over 40 witnesses over four years.

- I know the exact locations

and those locations were
provided to the inspector general

and some of which to the
intelligence committees.

with the firsthand knowledge

provide a protected disclosure

- It wouldn't be out of the ordinary

for the Vatican to be involved
in a government coverup

The church's doctrine asserts

that humans and intelligent
creatures were created by God,

and the discovery of intelligent
extraterrestrial life

could raise profound theological

Therefore, the Vatican might be inclined

to collaborate with governments

in managing information
related to alien encounters

in order to navigate these

connecting the Vatican

to government coverups remain uncertain,

many are suspicious

about the potential government concealment

of physical evidence
related to alien life.

- Numerous scenarios in recent history

have seen accusations
of government coverups

regarding proof of alien life.

The persistence of such accusations

has fueled ongoing
debates and investigations

into the potential existence
of extraterrestrial life

and government's involvement
in related matters.

- [John] In December, 1980,

a series of UFO sightings

occurred near the Rendlesham
Forest in Suffolk, England,

involving military personnel

from the nearby RAF Woodbridge base.

Some claim that the UK and US governments

have concealed crucial evidence

related to this incident.

In November, 2014,

a Chilean Navy helicopter crew

encountered an unidentified flying object

while on a routine patrol mission.

Many believe that governments

have not fully disclosed
all available information

regarding this incident.

In November, 2004,

the US Navy's USS Nimitz carrier group

encountered unidentified flying objects

off the coast of California.

Famously referred to as Tic Tac UFOs

due to their shape.

While the US government did release

declassified videos of
these encounters in 2020,

more information remains concealed,

such as radar data

and additional encounters
with similar objects.

The possibility of the government

possessing alien remains

is undeniably high,

given the clandestine nature

of many UFO-related investigations.

However, it appears that the disclosure

of such information to the general public

relies on either government willingness

or the extraterrestrial entities
