Let's go!

Come on!

You've been through so many wars.

How can you go back to being a common person?

They have friends.

All you have are comrades.

Who could be willing to be close to you when you go back?

Suddenly, there was a fire. I don't know why.

I wonder if anyone's still in there.

- It was fine just now. - So much smoke.

Why is it on fire?

Youyi!

Hurry, get in the car.

Let's go!

You found out.

Youyi.

Sit down.

Look!

What is this?! [Famous author kills her agent]

Who do you think Chief Chen is? [Two women fight over one husband]

In front of all those guests!

Grabbing a knife all because you were jealous.

Mom.

We weren't fighting over a husband.

What did you say?

I said, after the Civil Law was amended,

two women can't fight over a husband.

Mom.

The Qing Empire has long been dead.

Is this how you talk to your elders?

You're indeed from a poor, ill-bred family.

Mom.

Stop, please.

Youyi.

Don't be angry, all right?

How dare you!

All right, fine.

Fine!

Our Zhou family

can't afford such a precious daughter-in-law like you!

Madam.

What's the matter now?!

Some guests have arrived.

Invite them in.

Yes.

Boss, what's this woman's background?

The daughter-in-law of the Department of Internal Affairs.

What do you think?

Scared?

What would I be afraid of?

This woman... really knows who the murderer is?

This is my daughter's.

I recognize it.

But it wasn't me!

Although I wanted to kill them,

I couldn't do it!

Among the people I know,

no one could do it.

No one.

Think again carefully.

There really isn't!

Before Hong Mei's mother came to claim the body,

a woman did come by to identify the body.

In her early twenties.

A tall, rangy girl.

She was quiet and pretty too.

Didn't seem like she could kill anyone.

Who would show that?

Hong Mei's mother said

she didn't see this red string

after she brought the body back.

But you told me

you saw it in the autopsy room.

Then this means

before the body was transported to the police station,

the victim had always been wearing it.

But why was it gone when the body left?

That's right, how did that happen?

Except for you and Hong Mei's mother,

who else came into contact with the body?

The woman who came to identify the body!

The woman who identified the body. Did you register her?

Yes.

The records you asked for are missing.

What's strange is that the fire that day didn't affect the archives.

All the documents and files are still here.

Only the registration records you asked for are missing.

Boss?

Boss! I'm asking you a question.

That night, you brought back thirteen people.

But you didn't have time to register them.

We only recorded 12 people after the fire.

What about the last person then?

Could she have set fire and stolen the records?

Someone saw Xu Youyi rush into the fire and take someone away with her that night.

And... it was a woman.

Officers. Please.

Thank you.

Save the courtesies. I'll ask a few questions and be on my way.

After the fire happened, you ran back into it that day.

Who did you bring out?

I told you before.

When I left the police station the fire hadn't started yet.

After that, I didn't go back in.

Plus, it was so dangerous.

Why would I go back?

But someone saw you go back in.

Who?

The young man with the tattoos?

Or the old woman who was in a hurry to go home to pick up her kids?

You want witnesses?

I have one too.

Right.

I was with my wife the entire time.

She didn't go into the fire.

Would you please cooperate with us?

Officer, you sure are interesting.

Our whole family is sitting here nicely.

How are we not cooperating with you?

Why do you officers insist on involving our family into things like

the arson case and a murder case?

If you can't figure out what happened, that's alright.

Later I'll make a phone call to the police station

and get your bureau chief here to cooperate with your investigation.

Don't think you...

Madam Zhou, you've made it too serious.

We can handle the cases on our own,

there's no need to bother the bureau chief.

Sorry for disturbing you all today.

These are some pastries from Guanshengyuan.

I wish you all a happy life.

That's enough.

You two hurry up and deal with this mess.

Don't ruin the Zhou family's reputation again.

Mother!

Mom.

Youyi.

You were a decent daughter-in-law before.

I hope you'll be the same in the future.

- Mr. Wu. Did you enjoy it? - Yeah.

- Please. - Go away!

Would you like another bowl?

No, no.

Boss.

Is business good?

This is for this month.

May your business flourish.

Thank you, take care.

Brat.

Steamed stuffed buns!

What are you doing? Go away!

Steamed buns! Hot steamed buns!

[Shanghai Municipal Police Station]

Sir, sir!

It hurts! Hurts!

Sir, don't beat me! Don't!

I really can't prove my innocence now.

I'm thinking if you don't suffer a bit, you won't tell the truth.

I found the gun! I didn't kill anyone!

I found the gun! I found it!

I didn't kill anyone. I really didn't kill anyone!

I found the gun, really.

I really didn't kill anyone.

I really didn't kill anyone!

Boss, he's just a gangster.

Do you really believe what he said?

Yeah.

He's only a gangster.

But do you know what this is?

A gun.

It's a German Gewehr 98, Mauser rifle.

The initial velocity can reach 755 meters per second.

It is famous for its high accuracy and good stability.

It is the best rotary rear-pull bolt rifle abroad.

A thing used on the real battlefield.

Careful. Careful.

Do you think...

this gangster can really use it?

So someone else did it.

We've found a tough one.

[Famous author kills her agent, two women fight over one husband]

Seriously, these people. Why did they write this nonsense?

Now there are people running to the bookstore and boycotting our new books.

The bookstores aren't selling my books anymore?

Well, not yet. The thing is...

True, true.

Those who buy your books aren't any of those people.

So why are you angry?

That bored media! They gossip about you behind your back

and you're not angry?

And these journalists.

The vivid stories they make up,

as if every one of them was there.

If you don't believe me, I'll read it for you.

It says, a month ago, you fired Zhang Wan

and made it so she couldn't find a job in the industry.

It also says that... you threatened Zhang Wan with a knife.

Then Zhang Wan died.

And it was a crime of passion. Isn't this all nonsense?

She obviously was killed by a gunshot.

Yes. Got shot and died.

Bureau Chief Wang,

Zhang Wan's funeral is tomorrow, right?

Yeah.

What is it?

You want to go?

Youyi, I'm not trying to criticize you,

but you really mustn't go.

If you do, those magazines would write even worse stories.

Don't worry. I know what I'm doing.

Youyi.

Today,

with relatives and friends here,

we're mourning for our mutual friend, Miss Zhang Wan.

I've known Miss Zhang Wan for many years.

Since my student days, we have always been with each other.

To me,

she was like my sister and a close relative.

We were each an indispensable part of the other.

In the past,

we had been accompanying each other for decades.

We said goodbye countless times,

But I never thought

that we would say goodbye in this way.

Crocodile tears.

May she live on forever.

Finally,

I'd like to issue a call for justice to the whole world.

Everyone,

please find the murderer who shot Zhang Wan that night together.

I, Xu Youyi, [Ten thousand yuan]

will offer a reward of 10,000 yuan.

If someone can successfully find the murderer or provide clues,

this money will be yours.

What is she thinking?!

Is there something wrong with her?

[Shen Bao] [Xu Youyi offers huge reward to catch the real killer]

- And this. - Let's go then.

Leaving?

We're leaving.

Boss.

- Come have a drink. - I'm not going.

Go enjoy. I'm going to be awhile.

All right.

- Let's go. - Off work?

Let's go.

Come on.

[Xu Youyi offers huge reward to catch the real killer]

[Report and get 10,000 yuan]

It seems like your business isn't doing all that well.

I'm hungry.

I lied to the police for you already.

A meal is not too much to ask for, right?

Wow, you learned to make it so quickly.

Were you practicing secretly by yourself?

Here. Lucky.

You only get one today.

Not bad. You've finished your apprenticeship.

Why are you hiding from the police?

Too much trouble.

Really?

Since you're done eating, you should head back.

I don't want to go.

Don't want to go? What else do you want?

I don't feel like going home today.

Can I stay here for the night?

No.

Why not?

Not enough space.

"Not enough space"?

It's huge here.

Hey. I'm your savior!

I'm the one who saved you from the fire.

How could you treat me like this?

I don't care. I'm staying here today.

Come back here!

It's so big. What do you mean you don't have enough space?

What is wrong with you?

Why are you so nervous?

I just accidentally stepped on your foot!

Don't!

What are you doing?

I just want to stay at your place for one night.

Do you have to step on me and kick me too?

I... I...

I...

I will keep still and wait.

Like the stars with starry vigil and its head bent low with patience.

The morning will surely come,

the darkness will vanish,

and thy voice pour down in golden streams breaking through the sky.

Then thy words will take wing in songs

from every one of my birds' nests.

You recited it quite well.

You like Tagore, too?

You stink! Go take a shower!

I don't stink!

Either way, you smell stinky. Hurry and go shower.

You can stay only if you take a bath.

But I don't have any pajamas.

I'll find some for you. Hurry, go wash up.

I'm a clean person, okay?

[Rumors and Gossip]

[To Hong Mei, Xu Youyi]

All right.

Here.

I was wondering why you looked so familiar.

You came to my book signing. Right?

You didn't bring a book that day on purpose.

Were you trying to get my attention?

Do you admire me?

Go shower!

How does this shower work?

There's a rope next to it. Just pull it.

Your shower is quite special.

It works quite well, doesn't it?

It fits quite well.

Your clothes are quite comfortable.

You can sleep on the couch tonight.

It may be a little cold at night.

There are blankets in the cupboard. Grab them yourself if you need them.

I'm sleeping here?

How can I sleep here?

You can.

I want to sleep upstairs.

No.

Why not?

Upstairs is my room.

I can sleep with you. I don't mind.

I mind.

You can't do that. that's too domineering.

Either sleep here or go home.

What are you doing?

Drinking.

I was thirsty.

But you don't have any drinks here.

The water is cold, too.

Fortunately, there was alcohol.

I'm sorry.

I accidentally broke your glass just now.

I'll buy you a new one tomorrow, okay?

Aren't you a writer?

Writers drink excessively too?

You don't understand, do you?

Writers have to drink.

Otherwise, where do you get inspiration?

I even wanted to smoke before too.

But Zhou Heng wouldn't let me.

Zhou Heng.

You saw him before.

That day,

he was standing next to me outside the police station.

He nags a lot.

He wants to control everything about me.

He is...

really good to me too.

He used to be like that.

All men nag a lot.

Right.

All men nag a lot.

I'm telling you.

before I met Zhou Heng,

I was with another man.

He nagged even more.

He is a journalist.

If you fought with him, you could never win.

He can talk for two hours nonstop, without drinking one sip of water.

Impressive, right?

And he's good-looking,

has bright, sparkling eyes.

He wore a pair of glasses.

A very cultured man.

He knows Japanese and English.

One time,

I saved up three months' salary and bought him a trench coat.

When he wore it,

the manager of Lianhua Company came to give him a business card.

He wanted to make him a movie star.

And then?

Later?

Later, he left.

You know.

Men have ambitions.

What about you then?

Me?

I stayed.

And then...

I met Zhou Heng.

Zhou Heng used to be a really good man.

A'Wan.

A'Wan was also a very good person.

Do you live here alone?

No family?

No.

How sad.

But you can rest assured.

We've met now.

And from now on, we are good friends.

As for me, in Shanghai, I still get some respect.

In the future, if you need anything,

just come to me.

Be careful!

You...

You... should also strive for success.

Do business well.

Look at your place.

It's so deserted that there isn't even a mouse around.

Just a silly cat,

who eats a lot and is greedy.

People like us...

have to help each other.

That's what a true friend is.

Right?

Stop drinking.

I really hate her.

I loathe her.

I wanted to never see her again.

But I didn't want her dead.

I really didn't.

Do you believe me?

Yes.

All right.

I hope you can have real friends when you go back.

And from now on, we are good friends.

- Master Jiu. - Sit.

Eat.

When I was in trouble back then,

you helped me.

You gave me a bowl of noodles and now I'm returning it to you.

I, Peng Jiu Yi, carry it through to the end.

A'Qi.

When you do something wrong,

you have to take the responsibility yourself.

If, today, I break the rules for you,

in a business this big,

how am I supposed to lead them?

Master Jiu! I know I was wrong!

I deserve to die!

Master Jiu. Please spare me!

Master Jiu.

Please spare me.

Don't worry.

We don't do dirty business anymore.

We need to follow the rules when doing things.

We are friends.

So I'll let you die with grace.

Master Jiu! I was wrong!

I was wrong! I beg you!

Master Jiu. Please, please!

I was wrong!

Spare me, Master Jiu!

Are you hungry?

What about I take you out to eat?

Huizi.

There are scandals about you in the tabloids lately.

It's all nonsense, Master Jiu.

I didn't do those things.

No?

I know.

You're different from those female stars.

You're well-educated.

You studied abroad and you're sensible.

You know what's important.

That's why I love you.

Thank you, Master Jiu.

All right. Go on.

This is getting old.

I'll move you to a new house later.

All right.

I'm leaving then.

Hello?

I can't take it anymore.

I don't want to stay here any longer.

Will you take me away?

Take me away!

Don't say that to me!

I'm leaving either way.

Are you coming with me?

Then prepare 50,000 yuan for me.

Otherwise...

don't blame me for ruining you!

[Great World]

- Slow down! - Brother Qi, slow down.

I know you're really happy today.

Right?

Slow down, slow down.

Slow down!

Brother Qi, be careful!

I'll call you a rickshaw.

Rickshaw!

Brother Qi. Come often. Don't keep me waiting for so long.

You're so beautiful.

I'll definitely come again next time.

Come on, come on.

- He'll pay. - All right.

- Bye, Brother Qi. - Bye-bye.

[Huatong electric fans are guaranteed for 10 years, free from repairs]

You little punk!

Have you grown up?

How dare you try something with me!

Let go of me!

Don't move!

Who are you?

We met at the police station before.

Forget already?

You are... a cop?

Here's the evidence of stealing.

Officer.

Please spare me.

It's really hard to make a living.

After I bought my daughter a cemetery plot,

I don't have any money left.

- I still owe... - All right, all right, enough!

I don't want to hear this right now.

Let me ask you a question now. Tell me and I'll let you go.

All right?

Go ahead, ask, ask.

That day in the interrogation room,

I asked you who would avenge Hong Mei.

You thought of someone, didn't you?

You... You...

Say it.

Why don't you take me to the police station and lock me up for a few days then!

We officers are reasonable people.

It's so hard for you,

I won't arrest you for stealing this wallet.

I'll take you back to that ballroom.

After the owner comes, I'll just give him this wallet back.

Officer. I'm begging you! Don't!

That man is a local ruffian, he'll beat me to death!

I'm begging you!

Then tell me.

that day in the interrogation room

someone came to mind, didn't they?

Someone did come looking for Hong Mei that day.

She broke into my room and scared me half to death.

But I didn't see her face.

Judging from her voice, it was a young girl.

Before Hong Mei's mother came to claim the body,

a woman did come by to identify the body.

In her early twenties.

A tall, rangy girl.

When I left the police station the fire hadn't started yet.

After that, I didn't go back in.

But someone saw you go back in.

I was with my wife the entire time.

She didn't go into the fire.

That's how it should be.
