I'm going to bet that you didn't know
that you could schedule your Galaxy
watches always on display and power
saving modes based on things like time
or location to dramatically improve your
Galaxy watch's battery life and you
definitely didn't know that I have a
nearly 200 Page Deep dive guide on every
Galaxy watch ranging from the Galaxy
watch 4 to the brand new Galaxy watch
Ultra that's loaded with an insane
amount of tips tricks and hidden
features that you haven't seen anywhere
else the guide link is below if you're
interested otherwise let's take a look
at more than 20 incredible battery
saving
[Music]
tips white watch faces on a Galaxy watch
can look incredible but since this uses
an OLED display any black pixels are
actually completely off and any white
pixels are using the most amount of
power so an easy way to save a lot of
battery life is to Simply change your
watch face from a light colored watch
face to a dark colored watch face this
one un Change can literally save you
hours of battery life touch sensitivity
is an incredible feature to be able to
use your Galaxy watch with gloves on but
if you take your gloves off you should
always come back to your quick panel and
disable the touch sensitivity option
there's no sense using that extra power
if you don't need it access to your GPS
location through your Galaxy watch is
really useful for things like tracking
workouts or if you're going to be using
your Galaxy watch for turn BYT
navigation but it's really wasting
energy if you aren't working out
navigating to quickly disable location
tracking just tap the location toggle in
your quick panel and if you ever forget
to turn that toggle back on before
starting a workout that won't be a
problem because if you start a workout
that supports GPS tracking you'll
actually get a notification before
starting the workout to turn the
location tracking back on once you go
ahead and tap that toggle and swipe back
your workout will start and GPS tracking
will be enabled if you pull down your
quick panel and swipe across and tap
your settings gear then go to buttons
and gestures and scroll down a bit
you'll see some really useful gesture
options you've got the double pinch
shake to dismiss and knock knock
gestures and these are really handy for
things like opening up background
applications starting or stopping your
music dismissing notifications or even
opening up a specific application all
without ever touching your Galaxy watch
however if you find that you're rarely
using some of these features or maybe
you don't use them at all it's best to
turn off the ones you don't use to save
a bit of battery life because I've
personally noticed that if I have all of
these gestures enabled my battery does
die notably faster than if I have them
all disabled Universal gestures are an
incredibly powerful way to interact with
your Galaxy watch without ever touching
it this will let you do anything from go
to your app screen to jumping into
specific applications and even scrolling
through those applications and there's
even a cursor mode that you control by
the angle of your wrist and if you hold
the cursor over the button for a moment
it'll actually tap the button for you
but as you can imagine one of the big
downsides with this feature is that it
uses a lot of battery life fortunately
there are a couple things you can do to
reduce the battery consumption the first
is to jump into your settings then
scroll all the way to the bottom and tap
accessibility then scroll down a bit
more to interaction and dexterity then
into the universal gestures menu and if
you scroll down a bit here you'll see an
option here called autoactivation you're
going to want to make sure this is
disabled what this will do is prevent
Universal gestures from always being on
which will definitely save some battery
life the second thing you can do is
anytime you're done using the universal
gestures just put your palm on the
screen this will turn your screen off
then wait a couple seconds until the
yellow outline disappears that will
guarantee that Universal Gestures does
actually turn off I've personally
noticed that if I wasn't intentional
about shutting this feature off and I
just kind of put my Wrist down and went
about my business a lot of times I'd
turn my wrist back up and it would still
be active and then that's going to use a
whole lot of extra battery life the last
and most obvious thing you can do is
just disable Universal gestures whenever
you're not using them this next tip is
going to save you literal hours of
battery life and that has to do with the
different voice assistants and it
doesn't matter whether you're using
Bixby or Google Assistant this tip is
going to make a big difference and that
tip is to turn off the voice wakeup
features these use a tremendous amount
of power in the background to disable
voice wake up for Bixby is actually
really easy
just hold the home button to activate
Bixby and say turn off Voice wake
up I turned off voice W up and for
Google Assistant you just have to swipe
up to see your apps then tap the
settings app and scroll down until you
get to the Google option then go ahead
and tap that then tap assistant then
disable the hey Google toggle this one
change made a dramatic difference in
battery life for me and you can still
have quick access to these assistants as
you're saw all you have to do is hold
the home button to activate Bixby and
you can switch the home button to Google
Assistant if you prefer by swiping up
tapping settings then scrolling down to
buttons and gestures then tap the press
and hold option and change it to Google
Assistant now if I hold the home button
it'll open up Google assistant and if
you want access to both assistants
really easily you can have the home
button set to one assistant then swipe
up on your app screen find the other
assistant long press it and drag it to
the top of your app screen now no matter
which assistant you want to use you can
just hold the home button or just swipe
and tap and you could also of course set
shortcuts to these assistants right on
your watch face using complications just
tap a complication that supports opening
apps and tap the assistant you want to
use now if I go back to my home screen
and tap the complication area you'll see
that it immediately starts the assistant
the default screen brightness on the
Galaxy watch is more than bright enough
for day-to-day use so if you pull down
your quick panel then swipe over to your
brightness toggle and long press it you
can disable the Adaptive brightness
option then tap your brightness and
reduce it by one or two notches now if I
go back to my watch face you can see
that it's still plenty visible but
dropping just those one or two
brightness levels is going to make a
significant impact to battery life the
one caveat with this is that if you step
out into really bright sunlight the
screen's not going to automatically
brighten to make it easier to see so if
you're going to use this method to save
some battery life I do recommend pulling
your quick panel down swiping all the
way to the end and tapping the plus icon
here then swiping back and grabbing your
brightness quick toggle long pressing it
and dragging it to your first page and
now just press the home button now
anytime you step outside on a really
bright day you're just one swipe a tap
and a second swipe away from getting the
brightness all the way back up to see
easily on a bright day sleep tracking on
the Galaxy watch is a great feature to
help you guys get some meaningful
insights on your health so I don't
recommend taking your Galaxy watch off
to charge at night however there are a
few things you can do to help improve
battery life while you sleep and the
first thing is to enable something
called sleep mode to do this swipe down
from the top edge of your screen to
reveal your quick panel find the modes
icon and tap it then tap sleep mode this
is going to do a few things most
importantly it's going to turn off your
gesture and touch wakeup features so if
I dismiss my screen here you'll see that
it completely turns off and if I turn my
wrist the screen's not going to turn
back on even if I tap the screen it
won't turn on at all and if I had a
rotating bezel I could even physically
rotate that bezel and the screen still
would not turn on the only way to turn
it on when sleep mode is enabled is to
press one of the physical buttons and
even still that's only going to take you
to the sleep mode screen with your time
and the option to turn sleep mode off to
get to your home screen you going have
to press the home button a second time
and now you'll be able to interact with
your watch like normal but when you're
done interacting with your watch and you
dismiss the screen it's going to go
right back into that sleep mode and this
is extremely useful for preventing your
screen from turning on anytime you just
roll over at night or move your arms and
that is going to save a bit of battery
life the second thing you can do to
improve battery life while you sleep is
to disable any features that you don't
need to do this swipe up to see all of
your apps then tap the Samsung health
application scroll all the way to the
bottom and tap settings then scroll down
and tap sleep and here you can disable
any features that you're not using so if
you've checked your blood oxygen for a
few weeks and you've seen that your
oxygen levels look pretty normal while
you're sleeping there's really no sense
in keeping this measurement on and the
same is true for snore detection if you
notice that you're not snoring there's
really no point in keeping that on using
more battery life and the last option
down here is measuring your skin
temperature while you sleep and this is
only really used for tracking your
menstrual cycle and trying to predict
when the next one's going to happen so
if you're not using menstrual cycle
tracking definitely keep this one off so
by disabling sensors you're not using
you'll be able to get even more battery
life out of your Galaxy watch heart rate
monitoring is one of the core functions
of a smartwatch so I don't really
recommend it turning this off however
you can improve battery life with this
feature if you've already been tracking
your heart rate for a few weeks and you
realize that there's really nothing
concerning with your heart rate
throughout the day so something you can
do to save a bit of battery life is to
go back to your watch face swipe up to
reveal your appli
and go into the Samsung health
application then scroll all the way to
the bottom and tap settings then heart
rate and instead of measuring
continuously you can measure it once
every 10 minutes while you're still this
will give you a good reading of your
resting heart rate without having to use
a ton of battery life and this doesn't
affect exercise heart rate readings as
soon as you start an exercise it is
going to measure continuously This only
affects heart rate measurements while
you're not doing a workout and while you
can set your heart rate measurements to
manual only
I don't recommend it because you're not
going to save that much battery life
going from once every 10 minutes to
manual only plus you'd miss out on all
of your heart rate tracking data if you
back out of the heart rate measurements
and scroll down a bit you'll see that
you can also change your stress
measurements for most people I recommend
just keeping stress measurements set to
continuous because having a lot of
stress in your life can have a lot of
real physical effects on your body and
having the ability to know when your
body's getting really stressed is pretty
useful because then you can do something
like the breathing exercise in the
stress monitoring app or maybe take some
time in prayer or reading the Bible
however if after a few weeks of
measuring your stress continuously you
see that you never really have that high
of stress levels you can set this to
manual only to save a bit more battery
life if you swipe up on your watch face
then go into the Samsung health
application and scroll all the way to
the bottom then tap settings then scroll
down most of the way down you see this
option here called activities to detect
and and what this will do is
automatically start a workout if it
detects that you're doing any of these
activities but in order to do this it's
not only looking at your heart rate but
it's also looking at how your watch is
physically moving around and it's always
monitoring that so if you don't mind
manually starting all of your workouts
you can just disable this feature and
save a bit of battery life and a quick
tip for being able to start your
favorite exercises much faster is togg
just go back to your home screen swipe
to the right to see your tiles then
swipe all all the way to the right and
tap the add tiles option and scroll down
to the Samsung health section and in
there you'll see exercises if you tap
this it'll add an exercise shortcuts
tile if you long press it again and tap
edit you can change which workouts are
shown and once you selected your
workouts just swipe in from the left
side to save the changes so having these
shortcuts makes the autodetect workouts
feature a lot less useful if we jump
back into the Samsung health application
then back into the Samsung Health
settings
and scroll down a bit again you'll see
this inactive time option and what this
does is alert you that you've been
inactive after about 50 minutes of not
doing anything and it kind of works as a
reminder for you to get up and start
walking around a bit but if you don't
have a desk job and you're moving around
all day anyway then all this feature is
going to do is use up battery life in
the background as it's measuring your
movement and in that case you can just
disable it to save a bit more battery
life every time a notification comes in
your Galaxy watch will do some
combination of making a sound
vibrating and turning the screen on and
if you have all notifications turned on
for your Galaxy watch it's going to be
using a lot of extra power for
notifications you might not even care
about so to get back some battery life
you're going to want to jump into the
Galaxy wearable application that was
installed when you connected your Galaxy
watch to your phone then you want to go
to watch settings then notifications
then app notifications and scroll
through these apps and make sure that
you only have notifications enabled for
applications that you actually want to
get notified from and once you're done
adjusting your app notifications you
should back out one page and change a
few more settings for even more battery
saving the first thing you should do
from this page is tap these show
notifications on watch option and make
sure it's set to show alerts when phone
not in use if it's set to show alerts
even when phone in use anytime you get a
notification on your phone while you're
using your phone not only will you see
the notification appear on the phone but
your watch is also going to show that
notification using up more battery life
so I'm going to set this back to show
alerts when phone not in use and back
out of here the next thing you should do
is open up the advanced notification
settings and disable the turn on screen
option what this does when it's enabled
is automatically turn on your watch's
screen anytime a notification comes in
even if you're not actually looking at
the watch if this is disabled the only
time the notification pops up on the
watch is when you get out of the ring or
vibration and you actually turn your
wrist to look at your watch then you'll
see the notification but the screen's
not just going to turn on by itself
you'll also want to make sure that autot
turnon watch notifications for new phone
apps is also disabled because if this is
enabled anytime you install a new
application you'll start getting those
notifications on your watch even if you
don't want them while we're talking
about notifications another thing you
can do is pull down your quick panel and
tap this little sound icon and switch it
to sound mode this will make it so that
any notifications that come in would
just use sound instead of vibration and
the reason this is useful is because the
vibration motor on your watch uses up
more power than the speaker so anything
you can do to reduce the amount of
vibrations will help save some battery
life but if you do prefer to have
vibrations on for your notifications
there's another thing you can do to save
battery life even with vibrations to do
that just long press this toggle and
scroll down a bit and tap vibration and
change the vibration duration from long
to short then scroll down and set the
vibration intensity from strong to light
this will allow you to keep vibrations
while still saving some battery life and
if you find that you're not noticing the
vibration when notifications come in and
you're missing notifications you can
just jump back into this menu and set
just the vibration duration to long to
see if that makes a difference and if it
doesn't you can set that back to short
and try setting vibration intensity to
strong this way you're still getting at
least a little bit of battery savings
but of course if you're still not
noticing the vibrations then you are
going to want to set that back to long
and strong because it's more important
to have a better watch experience than
just save some battery life and here's a
quick bonus setting that won't make a
huge difference but it will save a
little bit of battery life if we back
out of here and scroll down to system
vibration you can disable the different
system vibration options to save a
little bit more battery life but
honestly these won't make a terribly big
difference this is really just for
trying to squeeze every ounce of battery
out the always on display on the Galaxy
watch which is a feature that gives you
a slightly dimmed diversion of your
watch face whenever you're not actively
using your Galaxy watch is an incredible
feature that makes the Galaxy watch look
more like a traditional analog watch
whenever you're not actively interacting
with it but as you can imagine this does
consume a lot of power since the display
never fully turns off but there's two
ways to fix this the first and most
obvious method is to just manually turn
off the always on display when you don't
need it by tapping the always on display
icon in your quick panel now if I
dismiss the screen it'll just be a black
screen but this method isn't the best
because anytime you want to have it back
on you have to remember to actually turn
it back on manually the second way to do
this is by scheduling your always on
display to only turn on during specific
times of the day or maybe when you're
just out of your home to schedule your
alwayson display just pull down your
quick panel find the modes icon then
long press it then tap any of the modes
then scroll down to the bottom and tap
set on phone this will open that mode on
your phone and allow you to start
customizing it but you don't want to
customize that mode instead you want to
tap this back arrow to go back one page
to see all of your modes then at the
bottom you're going to tap add mode from
here you can select a mode icon as well
as a mode color then you can change the
name of your mode to something like aod
for always on display then tap done and
this will take you to the customization
page for that mode and instead of having
it turn on manually tap this turn on
automatically option so if you want your
always on display to turn on only in a
specific time period you can just tap
time period and choose which specific
days of the week and which time you want
it to turn on or off once you've picked
your days and time just tap done and if
you want to have several different time
periods like maybe on weekdays you only
want it on from 9:00 to 6:00 p.m. but on
weekends you want on for a different
period of time just tap time period
again select the weekends instead select
the time on your weekends and tap done
if you want to have the always on
display turn on only when you're away
from your home tap the place option
instead then tap home and if you haven't
already set up your home address it'll
ask you to do that then you can choose
how big of an area to activate the mode
with you can have the area be as wide as
1.2 Mi or as narrow as .1 Mi and lastly
you can choose to have it activate when
you leave that area or when you arrive
at that area so if this is your home
address you can tap when I leave and
anytime you leave that area your always
on display is going to automatically
turn on and as you can see you can stack
different conditions so I do have a time
period and a place both enabled here and
if you want to see other conditions you
can scroll to the bottom and tap add
condition and now you can get really
specific with when you do don't want
your always on display enabled once
you've set your conditions tap done then
in the choose what this mode does
section tap other actions scroll to the
bottom and tap add action then tap your
Galaxy watch then tap the always on
display and set it to either on or off
depending on what you want the mode to
do in this case I want it to be set to
on then I'll tap done so now during
these time periods whenever I'm away
from my home the only on display on my
Galaxy watch is going to automatically
turn on if I scroll down even further I
can even change the watch face based on
the mode and this just shows a list of
my recently used watch faces so if you
don't see the watch face you want to use
here just apply the watch face on your
watch first then it will appear here and
just to show this working if I manually
turn this mode
on you'll see that my always on display
just turned on and when the mode turns
off my always on display is going to
turn back off by default during a
workout your workout screen always going
to be on even if you dismiss your screen
it's just going to get a little bit
dimmer but you can still see everything
this is excellent for being able to just
quickly glance down at your wrist to see
your workout details but it does use a
lot more battery so if you're doing a
workout that doesn't require you to
always be watching what your workout
details are you can actually tap your
screen then swipe over then tap settings
then scroll all the way to the bottom
scroll up just a little bit and you'll
see this screen always on option now if
you have the always on display currently
enabled you actually won't be able to
turn this off so what you'll first need
to do is swipe down from the top to
reveal your quick panel then disable
your always on display then you can go
back to the setting and disable it so
now if I back out to my workout screen
again and I dismiss the screen it
actually turns the screen off saving a
good amount of battery life during the
workout and if I ever need to see my
workout details I can just raise my
wrist or press one of the buttons If you
have the Galaxy watch Ultra specifically
there's another setting you can enable
to save even more power when tracking
exercises and this is extremely useful
if your battery is almost dead but you
want to finish tracking a workout before
it dies to get to the setting just swipe
to the left tap settings scroll all the
way to the bottom and you see this
exercise power saving mode and again
this is only available on the Galaxy
watch Ultra if you have any other Galaxy
watch you're not going to see that
setting so if you tap this and enable it
the exercise data you're recording won't
be quite as accurate and it's also going
to block any calls and messages mesages
during your exercise as well as disable
other features like audio guidance and
your wakeup gesture but this will let
you record your workout for up to 48
straight hours if you had a full charge
and also to be clear when it's blocking
your calls and messages it's not
blocking them on your phone it's just
going to block them on the watch this
next trick is going to save an
incredible amount of battery life to do
this just swipe down your quick panel
then scroll through your panels until
you find this battery with a leaf icon
and long press it that's going to take
you to your power saving menu now if you
just enabled power saving mode it is
going to save a tremendous amount of
battery life but it's also going to
disable a lot of the features that you
probably really enjoy using especially
if you have this limit Health features
option also enabled which even limits a
lot of Fitness measurements so instead
of just turning this feature on and
missing out on all of your favorite
features I recommend scheduling it for
times when you know you're not going to
be needing to use your watch like maybe
when you're driving to do this you're
going to follow the same step that I
showed you to schedule the always on
display but you're going to make a
couple changes so the first change
you're going to make is instead of
having the mode turn on based on a
specific time period you're going to tap
this turn on automatically section
disable the time periods then select
Bluetooth device then tap the device tap
the Bluetooth connection for your car
and tap done if instead of using
Bluetooth in your car you just plug in
for Android auto instead scroll down and
tap add condition then scroll down a bit
further and tap Android auto then tap
connected and then done and if you have
multiple cars you can add Bluetooth
devices for each car once that's set tap
done then tap the other actions for what
the Mode's going to do let's go ahead
and remove the oon display this time
scroll all the way down and tap add
action then Galaxy watch again then
power saving we're going to go ahead and
have it turn on then tap done and tap
done once more now anytime I either
connect to the Bluetooth in my car or
connect Android auto power saving mode
is automatically going to turn on and
stay on until I disconnect from the car
then it will automatically turn power
saving mode back off and if you do a lot
of driving or there's other conditions
where you can program power saving mode
to turn on automatically this is going
to save you an insane amount of battery
life the one caveat to using modes to
schedule these different power saving
features to enable or disable is that
you'll see these little status icons at
the top when the mode is enabled but
there's a quick fix to this all you have
to do is swipe up to see your apps go to
the settings app scroll down until you
get to Advanced features then tap that
then scroll down until you see status
indicators tap that and change it from
show always to hide after 2 seconds now
if I go back to my watch face you'll see
that the status icons are gone and if I
turn my screen off with a palm gesture
then turn it back on again you'll see
those status icons pop back up just for
2 seconds then go away if you've ever
used the Google Maps application on your
Galaxy watch for navigation there's a
good chance you've accidentally enabled
a battery destroying feature so let's go
ahead and make sure it's disabled to do
that we're going to scroll most of the
way to the bottom of the application
then tap settings then mirroring and you
want to disable the driving and Transit
options because what this feature does
is anytime you start navigation on your
phone even if you're in your car and
driving the navigation is also going to
show up on your watch and obviously
you're not going to need that if you're
driving but you may want to keep it on
for walking and cycling and if you
scroll all the way down you can see that
it works the other way around as well so
if you start a navigation on your watch
you can have it automatically show up on
your phone as well and that features
pretty useful so I do recommend keeping
that one on Samsung wallet and Google
Wallet are tremendously useful digital
wallets but if you're someone who
personally prefers to stick with cash
and physical cards and you're never
going to use these digital wallets you
should pull down your quick panel and
swipe across until you find the NFC
toggle if you don't see it you can tap
this little plus icon and you should see
it right there tap the Plus icon to add
it to your quick panels then swipe in
from the left to confirm now you'll be
able to tap the NFC toggle to disable it
this will turn off the NFC sensor saving
even more battery life but just remember
if you change your mind later and do
want to use one of those digital wallets
you have to reenable NFC first texting
people back on your Galaxy watch is
another really useful feature but even
if you're using a swipe to send your
messages it can take quite a long time
to get a full message out especially if
you have to scroll back through your
message to make some corrections for
fortunately there's a couple things you
can do to speed up texting the first is
to use the voice to text feature by
simply holding the home button anytime
you're in a message box
area and saying whatever you want to say
that'll convert it to text and if you
want to say more just hold the home
button again and say the next thing but
let's say you're in a public place and
you don't want to be speaking your
message out loud in front of a bunch of
other people well that's what this
second option is for if you open the
Galaxy wearable application on your
phone then jump into watch settings
and scroll all the way to the bottom
then go into the general settings then
tap quick responses you can enable
custom responses and choose from a bunch
of preset responses that you can send
with a single tap at the bottom you can
add your own custom response and that
response can be up to 30 characters long
you can then scroll back up and tap the
edit icon and grab these little arrows
and drag your response to reorder it and
if there are responses that you never
use you can tap them then tap delete and
if your Galaxy watch is paired to a
newer Samsung phone you'll also get this
suggested replies option and what this
does is use artificial intelligence to
analyze your previous conversation and
give you more contextual responses that
better match the conversation and if we
scroll all the way back up to the top
you can see that you can also enable or
disable the Emoji responses and modify
those as well by adding any new emojis
deleting ones you don't use and
reordering them by long pressing and
dragging to another spot so when you
have suggested replies and custom
replies enabled if you scroll down a bit
you'll see this icon right here if a
suggested reply is generated and the
next few responses will be the suggested
replies then below that you'll have your
custom replies so between these two
features you'll be able to reply to
texts a whole lot faster reducing your
screen on time and thus saving a bit of
battery life now for a couple bonus tips
to charge your Galaxy watch even faster
the first tip has to do with this
charging screen that always shows up
anytime you're charging your Galaxy to
watch if you disable this screen your
watch is going to be using less battery
life while it's charging letting you
charge a little bit faster to do this
we're going to go ahead and jump to our
home screen then we're going to pull our
quick panel down and tap the settings
icon to go into the settings you're
going to scroll down until you find the
battery option and tap that then scroll
down towards the bottom and disable the
show charging info option now if I turn
my screen off you see the charging info
is no longer shown the second thing you
can do to charge faster is found in the
same menu all the way at the bottom and
it's this auto power on feature Now by
default if your Galaxy watch dies and
then you plug it into to charge it it's
going to automatically turn the watch
back on but if you disable this feature
you can charge your watch while it's off
and that'll make a noticeable difference
in charge speed because your Galaxy
watch isn't going to be getting
notifications or trying to update things
in the background it's just going to be
charging if you have a Galaxy watch
Ultra and you're still pretty new to it
and you're just not sure where to start
you can check check out this video here
for the first 20 things to do and if
you're looking for some more advanced
features that work on pretty much any
Galaxy watch you can check out this
video instead and don't forget to
subscribe and turn on notifications if
you want to see more Deep dive videos
just like this that's it for this Tech
epode God bless guys and I'll catch you
in the next one
