like most of us did.

And I'm a lifer in the game,
so I'm gonna watch this regardless.

And I've appreciated
how Mike has gotten ready for this fight

over the last six or seven months.

Yeah, that's real.

For a lot of us, on the outside of boxing,

watching Mike, like Andre said,
coming up in boxing,

it's what made you
fall in love with the sport.

He made you fall in love with boxing.
Was that the case for you too?

Oh, indeed, I mean,
he was one of the most vicious boxers

that we have seen in our time.

Just electric when he came to the ring,
always bringing that power and excitement.

And he just felt like
he was from your hood,

like, you recognized Mike
when you saw him go in the ring.

And so, his fights
were always fantastic, man.

So, to see him back,
58 years old, in shape,

ready to handle his business
on some grown-man type.

I mean, he's talked about using tonight
to kind of want to remind himself

who he is in the ring,

- to let his kids know who he is.

I mean, I'm 40, and I don't want to be
nowhere near a boxing ring.

But I can relate to the fire burning.

to share a ring with Mike Tyson in an
eight-round exhibition match.

What was that experience like?

It was extraordinary.

You know, I was very surprised of a lot of
things.

I was surprised of the way that he carried
himself, the way that he still could

defend himself.

But the most…

surprising part was what I expected, his
power.

First time he hit me, I expected it to be
hard, but I was like, holy smoke, this

dude still kicked like a mule.

So the power really did shock me.

How does a fifty-eight-year-old Tyson
match up with a twenty-seven-year-old

Paul?

He's got to be smart, and the bad thing
for Paul is,

these are two-minute rounds, so that
animal may never get a chance to tire.

If Tyson doesn't tire, there's no way Paul

a chance.

Rosie, you're such a big boxing fan that,
in fact, in your big debut on the screen

in Do the Right Thing,

you were shadow boxing across the screen
doing a little dance and really

representing Brooklyn well.

What intrigues you most about the main
event?

Does it have to do with your fellow
Brooklyn native Mike Tyson?

It sure does.

It's all about Mike Tyson, Mike Tyson, and
Mike Tyson for me.

I have to tell you, and I can't believe
this man is still alive.

All the trials and tribulations
he went through in his life,

we are seeing Mike 2.0,
and I am so excited for him tonight.

And you were, of course, at the sold-out
Madison Square Garden two years ago

when Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano,

two warriors who warred like
Hector and Achilles when they made history

as the first female main event

at the world's most famous arena,
Madison Square Garden.

Taylor was able to sneak past Serrano

to defend
her undisputed Lightweight title.

Tonight, she puts the undisputed,
140-pound crown on in the rematch.

Serrano, a Guinness World Record holder.

She's the first female to win titles

Well, I'm hoping for a fair decision

because I honestly thought
that Amanda Serrano won that fight

just by a slim margin.

I would have been even happier

That said, I think that Amanda
cannot let her foot off the gas.

And this time she cannot take anything

because Katie Taylor is an elite fighter
and she really rallied.

For my money, it was the greatest

Well, I think both of them
have to make adjustments.

a technical adjustment.

It's more about, uh, getting busy

Well, the truth I'm seeing is that Nunes
is a very good fighter with very good

reflexes,

and Nunes is the guy who needs to push the
issue and go to the bottom,

because if you let Goyat fight the way he
wants to fight, he's gonna win, because he

knows how to control himself.

He has way more experience than Nunes.

Total punches through two rounds.

Goyat, forty-five of one, forty-seven,
landing at a thirty-one percent clip.

Nunes, twenty-six of one, twelve for
twenty-three percent.

Good lead, curling left hook behind the
guard by Nunes, but missed with the right

uppercut.

Trying to bob and weave, and for Goyat,

Predictable patterns coming forward, Roy,
with those combination punches.

Yeah, highly predictable, but see, now
Nunez is doing the right thing.

He could be, but what happens here, I
think he thinks he's so good.

He's probably so much better than the
people he sparred with in India that he

don't think he needs to be in shape.

Rosie, what's your take?

I just think that he needs to be more
serious.

He really does.

He just doesn't seem like that.

How did you overcome that fear

in order to make sure you did
what you had to do when you guys fought?

Well, the thing with me is I boxed
with Mike when I was 15.

So I went up to the Catskills, you know,

I won the World Junior Championships
in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

in 19… in '83.

And me and my trainer said,
"Well, you know,

if we didn't box the best there,
where's the best?"

And they said the Catskills.

So me and my trainer drove up
to the Catskills

and sparred with Mike Tyson for a week.

And first… first day of sparring,
he came out,

he wanted to knock off my head,
take it off.

So until the third day, when me
and my trainer watched Muhammad Ali,

we said,
"This is how we got to fight Mike."

"We got to fight him
like Muhammad Ali fought."

Do you think, obviously, though,
there was that very famous boxing incident

where Mike Tyson bit Evander Holyfield.

Do you think he's still got that kind of…
that same uncontrollable fighting spirit?

Is that still present in him?

Well, of course, you've seen
the slap today, that was uncontrollable.

So Mike Tyson definitely has that in him.

Can you ask Evander,
'cause you're closer to him,

what does he think
is gonna happen in this fight?

How does he see it unfolding?

And now, they're not just incentivized

they're getting paid a lot too.

So I'm not trying to pocket watch,

I'm just saying I'm happy that
they're getting what they're getting.

Thinking about Katie Taylor and the fact

that she did get the decision
the first time,

but at the same time, we saw her get hurt
in that first fight, right?

Is she going to come in
a little more cautious

and not want to get pulled

I think of course she's going to try,

that she fights, she's got a lot of heart.

So I just think it's a difference,

and then say it's a robbery.

Those two don't go together.

If it's fight of the year,
it's ebb and flow,

back and forth,
and it could go either way.

It's a difference of a round or two.

Nobody can stand on their morals
and say, it was a robbery.

I just wish we would stop using that
for such a great fight.

I get it.

So, more people now were like,
well, it's time for Amanda to get her.

She didn't get it, but just a great fight.

Let's enjoy it as such.

As people who are
invested in boxing, though,

it's very cool to see
72,000 people turn out.

To kind of come and support an event like
this and to just enjoy a moment of boxing.

That's what I enjoyed about it, right?

You had like real deal fights
on the undercard

and then you have what you had in the
main event, just a spectacle.

Just an event. I enjoyed it
and to see all these people pull up,

and all
the people that were watching on netflix

just a powerful powerful thing lets people
know

that they are interested in fighting and
in fighters and i you know i appreciate it

for what it was i wasn't expecting Mike to
be old Mike Tyson even though everybody

has a little bit of hope yeah i wasn't
expecting

that i feel you it was good to watch it
with you i enjoyed myself we got uh

the fact

that this went the distance does this do
anything

for his boxing career i'm trying to figure
out like where does he go next he said

he's not calling out canelo but that's

because canelo needs him he says i'm not
sure how this furthers his career I don't

think Canelo wants to do that, at least

not right now.

He could change his mind if the number's
right.

I think it's time, like, really what Jake
is after is legitimacy.
