Like, I was 16. My grandpa used to take me to clubs

and I -- I got signed at 26 and the record came out at about 27.

And you? When I was 18, I moved to Nashville

and I also got my first deal at 26.

So you did the 10-year overnight success? Oh, yeah.

That's why I like you. Yeah.

This show, it's making the next generation

of, you know, music stars. Totally.

And it's an incredible feeling to get to take everything

that we've learned as artists over the years

and try to pour something into these amazing singers.

So we have a 17-year-old woman who is a star,

and she doesn't know it.

She has the most unique, gorgeous voice.

Growing up, family and music was all we had.

There was a lot of struggles going on.

And my family's Panamanian and Jamaican.

In those cultures,

expressing your emotions isn't super typical,

so I feel like having music as that connecting source

to my mother and my siblings has helped kind of teach us

how to express your love and the emotions that you feel.

And I feel like that's a really beautiful.

And I know it's challenging,

but I think Sloane's talent defies genres,

who has gone through a lot, and I know she's gonna kill it.

kind of encapsulates a lot about how me

and my family feel about my dad.

My dad isn't doing great.

His oncologist said he had anywhere from a couple days

to a couple weeks left.

And it's tough not being with my family,

but he wants me to be here.

My mom wants me to be here, my sister and my brother,

everybody wants me to be here because this opportunity,

being here gives them something to be excited for, too.

I want to dance to your music... Yeah.

...with my daughters in the kitchen. Aww.

Oh, my goodness. Thank you. That's what I want to do, yes.

You have the abilities of all the great pop singers,

like the Sabrina Carpenters,

but you also have this richness to you

that feels very much like country. Yeah.

I hear a little Kelsea in her, I hear a little Taylor Swift,

but what I seein her is a girl that -- she has a mission.

She's trying to figure out and learn as much as she can

because this is what she wants, and I think she'll do it well.

Sloane: I think my last performance,

I didn't think I sounded my best,

I didn't think I felt my best.

I went home for a week in between filming

to see my dad and check up on my family,

and I kind of came back, and I was a bit, um, shaken.

Bring how you feel to the stage.

The audience wants to feel that with you, and you're human.

And I feel like some of my truest moments are

when I bring everything to the stage.

I went through my own personal thing

when my son got sick. Mm-hmm.

And I couldn't get through it.

I just couldn't, and that's okay.

Like you said, human beings.

It's a show, and it's not as big as you

and as important as you and your trajectory

and your journey.

This is just a part of it.

It's not just the technical capability of singing.

His tonal quality is special.

I think he's a generational singer.

I think of the pain my mom felt when she lost my dad.
