[The Mystic Nine]

[Episode 2]

[Hong Family]

Er Ye.

Ya Tou.

What's wrong? Are the noodles not good?

Your noodles are the best.

After you came back, you have looked so troubled.

Did something happen?

There were a lot of people watching the show today. Someone was causing problems.

Causing problems?

It's fine. Nothing much. It's been resolved.

That's good.

Why are you coughing again? Have you taken your medicine yet?

Didn't the medicine from last time make you much better?

A lot better.

Don't worry. My sickness can't be rushed.

I see you busy all day worrying about me instead of taking care of yourself.

Listen to me. Rest more and take care.

Let me take you back to rest.

No need. It's not far.

I will have Taohua go with me.

- Taohua. - Er Ye.

Bring Ya Tou back to her room to rest up.

Remember to cook the medicine.

Yes.

Ma'am, let's go back.

- Go ahead. - Don't get too tired out.

Let's go.

[The Mystic Nine]

After everything, this place got to see light again.

Fo Ye, it's cold outside. You wear so little.

Go in early to rest up.

What's up? Is Ba Ye here?

Fo Ye, do not worry. I already invited him.

Go back and sleep.

It's so late. Why is Fo Ye telling me to go over?

Ba Ye, thanks for your hard work. I'm just following my orders.

Didn't Fo Ye go to the theater today?

What's up? What did Er Ye say?

I'm not sure what he said.

Fo Ye didn't say anything so no one asked.

But something happened today.

Some idiot was getting on Fo Ye's nerves.

Since Fo Ye came to Changsha and became famous,

who doesn't know him?

There are people who aren't afraid of death?

Right? Fo Ye said he doesn't want to see that idiot again.

That's right.

Let him be with his Wu Teng.

Who's that? Why does it sound like a Japanese name?

You sure look like a newbie here. How can you not know?

Ba Ye, tell me.

This story...

started many years ago.

Back then in Changsha, there was a Japanese person who opened a martial arts studio.

It's called "Wu Teng Something Liang?"

I forgot.

Anyways, he was a bossy jerk everyday.

He was interested in our Mystic Nine's business.

He wanted to butt in.

He didn't dare to bother the others so he saw me.

He went after me.

Isn't he looking for death?

You can't blame him.

All the others are rich and powerful big families, but I'm all alone.

I was afraid of issues so I thought of a method to escape it.

Ba Ye, you're too kindhearted.

What happened next?

I didn't think that...

that Wu Teng saw me backing off.

He kept coming at me.

He had people come wreck my place and kidnapped me.

Who are you?

I am his friend.

You destroyed his place and kidnapped him.

I won't do nothing.

Only one of you. Aren't you afraid of dying?

I only have one request today.

Let him go.

Nosy person.

Attack him!

Fo Ye is Fo Ye. So amazing!

Of course!

After that battle, Fo Ye became famous in Changsha.

No one dares to fight him.

Thanks to Fo Ye, I can live peacefully now.

Ba Ye, you are one of Fo Ye's people. Who dares to touch you?

No one dares.

But your Fo Ye keeps coming to bother me everyday.

It's so late already. I'm so tired, but he still tells me to go over.

Ba Ye, your predictions are so accurate.

Fo Ye must have something important so he asked you to come.

We need your good abilities.

You're such a smooth talker like me.

Are you interested...

in learning from me?

Ba Ye, you look so highly of me.

I'm telling the truth.

I just said your fat and you're really acting as one?

You don't even know what's happening?

This Fo Ye asking to go over this late.

It must not have been smooth with Er Ye.

Hurry.

Cigarettes! Buy some cigarettes!

Er Ye really said that?

Yes.

Fo Ye, since Er Ye said that it's dangerous, don't investigate any further.

Er Ye didn't say much.

Whatever he implied is like what we have discussed.

The Japanese are definitely doing some kind of secret experiment.

If that's true, Changsha is in danger.

It can't be the serious. Everyone on that train are dead.

Didn't you see the situation with the train?

It must be related to the Japanese. I must investigate.

Er Ye isn't going to make a comeback?

I never thought that Er Ye would refuse.

He won't even agree even though you went.

Er Ye doesn't want to help out. We will do it ourselves.

Fo Ye, we don't have any clues.

We don't even know where these tombs came from.

I originally thought that Er Ye was an expert in tombs.

We could learn about where they came from.

Now that's great.

Who said we don't know where they came from.

Regarding the graves of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, we surely are not as knowledgeable as the family of Er Ye.

One thing is for sure.

The tombs we found were on a train.

Even though we don't know where the tombs are from...

we can find where the train came from.

That's right.

That's how it is. You're so smart.

You can find where the train came from by using this map.

Awesome!

Based on this map, all the lines are from the northeast.

All of them were destroyed by bombs.

Could is be a ghost train?

The iron rails of the northeast line were indeed bombed and destroyed,

but the rail tracks from Changsha that follows the northeast line are intact.

There are mountain ranges around Changsha.

There are usually rail tracks that connects these mountains.

It is from the mining sites.

Mining sites.

It's hasn't been peaceful over there lately.

What are the Japanese up to? It's all their schemes.

That's not right.

There's nothing near the mining sites.

If they're up to something, they wouldn't go there.

Unless they want to conduct a secret experiment.

Hurry and prepare. We will go tomorrow.

Ba Ye!

Fo Ye, let me go.

Fo Ye, let me tell you. My family doesn't do three things.

Me taking part in these odd things, is already breaking the rules.

You already have clues now. Why must you bring me?

Fo Ye, you know that there are a bunch of spies over at the mining sites.

You and Lieutenant Zhang are strong enough.

So you won't be scared of anything.

I'm just a fortune teller and a bookworm.

I can't do anything with my hands nor can I carry anything.

If you bring me, I'll be burdensome.

I'll leave.

Ba Ye.

You are talented. Don't be humble.

Fo Ye, if it's like this,

I'll tell your fortune.

Look.

This token tells me...

You must come to the mining sites with me.

Don't worry. I will keep you safe.

It's fine.

Ba Ye, come with us.

Don't fight with Fo Ye.

Fine. I'll sacrifice this time.

Fo Ye, I still have to go back to prepare.

Fo Ye, should we still go persuade Er Ye?

Ya Tou don't worry.

This is the best doctor in town. He can definitely save you.

Doctor, how's her sickness?

The Missus caught a cold. She's fine.

I'll prescribe some medicine and she will be fine.

Currently, she must keep warm.

Thanks, Doctor.

Thanks, Doctor. Let me send you off.

I'll step outside.

[Ancestral Lofty Morals Being Passed on for Generations]

[Memorial Tablets of Hong Ancestors]

Ancestors, I'm unfilial Er Yuehong.

My wife is sick.

I question if it's because our ancestral business was not virtuous; hence, I ended up with this fate.

I've decided not to get involved in our ancestral business.

My wife is innocent. If there is any retribution, I'm willing to bear them myself.

I hope that ancestors can bless me.

Er Ye.

Teacher's Wife.

Chen Pi.

Here. I'm not cold. You wear it.

That's right. Why did you come back so late?

Is the dock business good?

Everything is good. It has been busy lately.

Take care then.

My body has been great.

But Teacher's Wife, why are you out this late?

If Teacher finds out, he will be worried.

Don't tell him.

Did you see him?

No. You can go back to rest. I'll go find him for you.

It's fine.

Teacher.

Teacher!

Chen Pi.

Fo Ye, is Ba Ye going to come?

He will. Definitely.

Fo Ye, I'm here.

Come.

Fo Ye, I'm here.

Ba Ye, do you want to ride this horse with me?

No, no. Didn't you say we must cosplay?

Look at me. This is how you cosplay as a wuxia fortune teller.

This is the safest way to dress.

No one would think that I'm there to investigate.

Look at you two. You are wearing casual clothes, but you can tell you are not normal people.

It's not good.

Ba Ye, cosplaying is to keep it low.

That's right. Look at me. I'm really not standing out.

But your bells.

People can hear you from far away.

You are bullying me now since I don't know kungfu.

All right. Follow this path out.

I'll take revenge on you later.

[Hong Family]

Ya Tou.

Teacher.

Ya Tou, what is it?

You have been busy all night. Are you tired?

Chen Pi, get your teacher some hot water.

Yes.

It's so cold. I'll take you back to rest.

Teacher.

Teacher, have some tea.

Where's my wife?

I don't know.

I'm here.

Ya Tou.

- Er Ye. - You're here.

I saw you busy all night.

I made you some noodles.

Come.

You can have the servants do this.

Why do it yourself?

So... you're complaining about my cooking skills?

No, I'm not.

Here. Eat up.

Is it good?

All right. There's more in the kitchen.

Go eat.

This Chen Pi is like a kid.

He's a kid in your eyes.

Fo Ye, there's two paths. Which one should we take?

Also, we are in the middle of nowhere.

What should we do?

Let me make a prediction.

No need. This way.

Lieutenant Zhang!

Ba Ye, why aren't you going?

Why should we go this way?

Fo Ye has his reasons.

What reasons?

Whatever Fo Ye says is right.

Right, what? Tell me.

Lieutenant!

Lieutenant! Tell me!

Look at this Chen Pi. Always messing up.

Right. He got caught by Teacher again.

That's his bad luck.

Are you saying Chen Pi?

Madam, Chen Pi has committed a mistake again and got punished by Teacher to kneel in the ancestral hall.

The crabs from Dongtian Lake are best eaten during the autumn. I especially prepared this for Teacher's Wife.

Teacher's Wife!

Chen Pi, what did you do wrong now?

Teacher told me to train my martial arts, but I found it boring.

I remembered that you love eating crabs and I just happen to see a lot of them by the river side.

I caught some but Teacher found out.

Really? So kindhearted.

Yes. So why don't you ask Teacher to let me stop kneeling.

No. You should be punished for doing something wrong.

If I plead him every time, it won't work.

Teacher is so old-fashioned. I never thought that you were also quite this petty.

And I even caught you those huge crabs.

If you want to eat in the future, ask Teacher to catch them.

I will not be filial anymore.

One situation is one. You must be punished.

But for being filial, I have rewards.

Here.

Eat while kneeling.

Teacher's Wife, do you only know to cook noodles?

There's crab. Why must I eat noodles?

What? You're being picky?

No. Whatever you make, I'll never be sick of it.

Even if there is no crab roe, this is the best food I've eaten.

You should focus your time on practicing martial arts.

This way, your teacher won't keep punishing you.

Eat slowly.

I told you. I really like these crabs.

Why don't you understand?

Sir!

I'm wrong.

I'll give them all to you.

- Sir! Sir! - You don't want to sell it now?

Now you don't want to sell them. Didn't you say someone ordered them?

No. Sir, they're all yours.

This is all for you. Let me go.

Now you know.

Sir, I beg you.

[Qingguan Town]

That journey was so bumpy.

I can finally see the town.

There's no one.

Oh, great.

This is mysterious. Let's go in.

Be careful.

Fo Ye, how come there are so many antiques?

Fo Ye, these are ancient.

Could there be... something down there?

Let's go.

Okay.

That's weird.

Why does this town seem like a ghost town?

Did something happen?

We came too late?

Hurry.

Let's go.

Hi. May I ask what happened here?

I don't know.

Don't be afraid. I'm not a bad guy.

Don't ask me.

How do we get to the mining sites? Is there one here?

I don't know.

Little boy, tell uncle.

Little boy, don't be afraid.

Go away. We don't know.

Fo Ye, that Lieutenant originally isn't easy to approach.

How about I go?

I'm more friendly.

Don't go. Wait for him to come back.

All right. I'll tell you.

Fo Ye, is there something wrong here?

Quiet.

That way.

Thanks.

Let's go.

Fo Ye, that lady looks like she's running away.

Running away. Could it be related to the train situation?

I fear not. That woman said that several huge mine disasters happened around here.

People didn't have a method of living so they all left.

They have no choice so they're leaving now.

- Mine disaster? - Right.

That lady said the Japanese did come before.

After the mine disaster, the Japanese left.

Japanese again?

Fo Ye, you sure came to the right place.

This place is definitely related to the train situation.

It seems like we must stay here overnight.

What?

Staying here?

Yes.

[Hong Manor]

Go.

Fo Ye, after roaming around the whole town, this place is too deserted.

Fo Ye, look. There are two lanterns lighted in front.

Strange. Didn't all the people here already leave to avoid the disaster?

This place is after all very near the mines.

It's also possible for some young and strong men to stay behind.

This place is desolate. There are no inns. Only huge connected establishments like these.

- Smells so aromatic. - Looks like we can only stay here for tonight.

Fo Ye, the people inside are cooking food. Let's go.

You're not afraid?

Fo Ye, as the old saying goes,

no matter how big the world is, food takes priority.

I'm starving to death. How could I still care about anything?

Jeez, Fo Ye! Why don't you two use your brain? All the way here, we didn't find any clues.

It's not easy to finally bump into people cooking food inside.

Let's go in and try to socialize with them. Maybe, we'll get some clues from them.

Let me tell you that there are all sorts of people inside. We still are not clear about the background of our enemies, so it's dangerous to go in.

You might get killed even before you find any clues.

Is it fun?

- No. - Why?

It's too cold.

♫ In last night's dream, I went again to the opera stage and put on new clothes and powder ♫

♫ Another round of old songs ♫

♫ Stepping into the classical prison through the northern snow ♫

♫ The sprinkled salt swirl in the air, confusing the dawn; the hairpin of the brothel woman looks a lot like that of an old friend ♫

Charge!

♫When the full moon bids goodbye, ♫

You have a feeling of accomplishment. ♫ there was never a full gather again ♫

♫ The swallow in the hall ♫

♫ Is holding new earth in his mouth again ♫

A lot of people helped you achieve your dream.

♫ The lonely sound reverberates around the rafters of Cui Jiu's mansion ♫

♫ You said that Jiangnan has mist-like drizzling rain ♫

♫ Now, there is someone making offerings ♫

2, 3, fall! ♫ to the heaven in the wilderness beyond the great wall ♫

2, 1, start! ♫ Who's going to care for the new tomb out in the wilderness ♫

♫ The official has already raised his pen ♫

♫ That year of red snow and blue winter, my red sleeves got wet ♫

♫ Lord, do you still remember the seventh day of the burial of an old friend in the new house ♫

♫ An old friend returns drunk and in a haze ♫

♫ to lightly sigh 'I love you', does lord still remember ♫

♫ how the iron-like general sobbed like a child ♫

♫ A man immerses his loyal bones in the sand, wears his golden armor to conquer the the ends of the earth ♫

♫ Behind me are barn lanterns of prison; my old friend, you are my home ♫

♫ Clear sky then mild drizzle, rain falls on the steps; the umbrellas paired with green clothes looked like a painting ♫

♫ New snow on the 28th of midwinter, paying you back for the bluestone and black earthenware ♫

♫ You said to exchange the golden armor with the fire beacon offering where chrysanthemums are planted in our hometown ♫

♫ The Liyuan Opera during Chang'an's peaceful times has red wine on stage ♫

♫ Before parting after getting drunk, the general asks for another song, and the singer indulges him ♫

♫ I fear that this is just a dream; Lord, farewell from now on ♫

♫ Watching my friend's last performance ♫

♫ A simple make-up is most befitting ♫

♫ I fear that ♫

♫ I'm disillusioned with the ending song ♫

♫ Lord, farewell from now on ♫

♫ That year of red snow and blue winter, my red sleeves got wet ♫

♫ Lord, do you still remember the seventh day of the burial of an old friend in the new house ♫

♫ An old friend returns drunk and in a haze ♫

♫ to lightly sigh 'I love you'; does lord still remember who's the person ♫

♫ that covered your clothes ♫

♫ while you were drunk ♫
